I’m lost for words to describe this place? It’s dirty, staff are rude and food is horrid as someone else said? I’d give this place a wide berth and find somewhere else to stay? Good luck. ps stayed here in April 24

I have eaten at the tavern on a number of occasions, this is the last. The place is in need of a deep clean and needs renovating. We were staying locally and unlike other eating places when I phoned to book a table I was told their was no need. The tavern is situated in a lovely area, the building outside is good yet when you go in things change for the worse. To encourage us to eat out in August the chancellor offered a discount on food and soft drinks. We were told the waiting time when we ordered was about 45 minutes which we did not mind. We ordered the fish and steak pie which was hot and nice but served with cheap frozen steak cut chips. The menu price £11.95 for each. The tables were sticky and place looked like it needed a good clean. Our meals received the discount but we and others were charged full price for soft drinks. Why was this the case, I asked the barman and he said they were not included in the scheme, coke and Britvic 55. A lady who ordered around the same time also came back to the bar asking for her money back as she had bought soft drinks and showed them an advert on Facebook. Without a quibble the barman refunded. We asked for ours the same and were given it. The barman mentioned to customers that the place was up for sale. Hopefully the new owner will improve things. For now I would not recommend this place to anyone.

The great location of this pub / hotel means it will always have customers and I get the impression that means they don’t think they need to make any effort. Tired, dated and grubby inside with strong smell of stale beer. The staff were friendly and pleasant but the food was just not very nice. My daughters naan bread was stale and not heated up. Fish in the fish and chips was swimming in grease. My lasagne was fine. Come on guys have a bit more ambition to give your customers a really good experience!

Solid bar food, great pub atmosphere. I read a lot of reviews about bad service, but we actually had the opposite experience. The bartender/server was extremely friendly/helpful and our food came out correct and fast!

Large car park with refundable fee opposite Swallow Falls. They are beautiful & worth the £2 entrance. Large pub could do with an update, good value lunch menu2 for £12 (says £10 on their website) Lamb hotpot was tasty, with lean tender meat, crusty roll was a prebaked baguette, both could have been bigger. Overall good:)

We stopped here as we visited the Swallow Falls waterfall ! We ordered from the 2 for £12 menu, the staff seemed very disinterested and was always on there phones! We waited over 1 hour for the food, we asked what was the delay the staff said the orders didn't go to the kitchen. So there was no apologie from the staff for the long wait the table next to me got fed up and cancelled and for a refund. The food was awful as well. So next time will see the wonderful waterfalls but eat some where else. Pub needs alot of staff training ! And new chef ! Very disappointing to be honest.

A last minute decision to eat here after arriving late to our campsite down the road. Very busy evening but we were still served promptly and with a smile. The three of us agreed that our burgers were some of the best we’d had, with very generous portions to complete. 3 courses plus a drink for around £20 is great considering the high quality.

After walking by the riverside up to swallow falls, we were very hungry and decided to stop in the swallow falls pub on the side of the hotel. In the past we've always felt welcome here, however, today unfortunately wasnt one of those days. We arrived and got a table, I went to order the drinks and meals....before I could order, the chef came out to the bar and began observing what I believe was a receipt, of which he threw in the bin in anger and muttered "f*** off" which I thought was a bit rude considering there was customers at the bar. When I was eating, I then heard one of the staff say "where have all these people come from today"....I believe it was said in humour, but ultimately I felt like we were not welcome which is a shame.

Wow, I can quite comfortably say this is the worst place I have ever eaten at, we called in on our way home from a lovely day out, firstly the place is very tired and run down which tbh doesn’t bother me too much if the food is good. We ordered our food and it came out inside 5 minutes which is always a worry how can any food be cooked freshly that quick, it all looked like it had been slapped on the plate, the burger was barely even warm and was like chewing the sole of your shoe it was absolutely tasteless and the chips were the worst frozen chips I’ve ever tasted, the chicken wings tasted like they had been pre cooked then just covered in some sauce n whacked in the microwave, the chef himself brought us our food out and didn’t even give us any condiments or knives and forks or even tell us where they were, this experience put a dampener on what was an amazing day, I can safely say I will never eat here again! I eat at cheap eats all the time so not one part of me is being a snob I wasn’t expecting top quality Michelin style food but some good pub grub would have been a nice end to the day.

A friend and I had finished a long walk and went in here to have a drink and something to eat. Decided to just get a pint first, there were two people in front of me - it must've taken 10 minutes just to get two drinks! There was one (very slow) person working the bar and 3 other staff wandering about not doing much who seemed to have no inclination to help serve customers at all. Anyway, got the drink and looked at the menu which seemed ok, but as we sat there the amount of food being returned by other customers and wrong orders was on a level I've never seen before! We made the wise decision to try elsewhere based on what we saw!

We popped in on an evening as not booked elsewhere, the pub was quite full so had to sit in the overflow area. The food was edible but not the best and wasn’t over expensive. I had lasagne that looked like it had been bulked made and then warmed up in the microwave as it was dry. I asked for no chips and garlic bread instead which was warm but was very pale and could have been in the oven a bit longer.

We've been here 4 or 5 times as a group over the last few years when hiking locally, and have never had anything but good service and food from the place. It doesn't pretend to be anything it isn't - if you're looking for gourmet meals then look elsewhere, but if you're looking for decent pub grub at good prices then you're in luck. The drink good too, and the beer and cider tastes fresh like the lines and pumps are kept clean properly. I'm not sure what's up with the bad reviews - either they've been unlucky, or are expecting too much. For us, it has been consistently good every time we've come.

Recently visited here with my partner, brother in law and his partner. I don’t know what else to say apart from it’s the worst place we have ever visited. Food arrived cold and my partners had a hair in it. When we finally got the attention of the waiting on staff who were too busy chatting in a corner, we asked her to take the food back as it was cold and there was a blatantly obvious hair right on the side of the plate. Well that didn’t go down too well as all she could reply with was a huff. The plate was taken back to the kitchen and the head chef who I think was called steve (we overheard someone call him that) came out of the kitchen with the girl who had taken the plate and my partner overheard him say they can f**k off if they think they’re getting another meal. Charming..rude staff, very rude head chef who clearly didn’t have his mouth washed out as a kid, disgusting food and appalling customer service. Won’t be returning and will be advising other people to avoid like the plague

Ate here on Sunday night. We went to two other places first, but couldn't get in. I said, we'll get in here. Last ate here 7-8 years ago and it wasn't very good, but I said we couldn't reflect on that as surely things would have changed in that time, so we gave it a go. Bad move! I had fish and chips, because you can't go wrong with that, my husband says. It wasn't good. I couldn't tell you what the fish was, not a clue, it was tasteless. Two friends had steak pie, served with onion rings? Mediocre at best. This was all served within about 5 minutes of ordering. This from a place that promises home cooked meals. Then our last friend had pizza, which they totally got wrong by bringing an extra piece of pie out, but when they got it right, it was the best thing served. Don't waste your time and money.

We visited here for an anniversary meal, while we were on holiday. We're expecting a restaurant but it is basically a pub with food. Couldn't fault the food but the roo is very dark and my husband noticed that the glasses weren't clean. I suppose the signs were there, we called in for lunch at The Tavern at around 1pm on a sunny day in the school summer holidays...the place was dead. From the outside The Tavern looks really promising, plenty of parking (you pay but get the cost back when ordering food) a lovely location opposite Swallow Falls and on the road that leads into lovely Betws-y-coed. We sat inside (there is seating outside too) and ordered a pizza for my son and two main meals for me and my husband which were from the two for £10 daytime menu. There was just one member of staff serving at the bar and taking food orders, I have to say that he was lovely: very polite and friendly. We noticed that our table was quite sticky, I gave it a wipe (mum always has wipes to hand) but this made no difference; I don't think the table was dirty, it was more that the varnish had become tacky for some reason. The decor at The Tavern is quite tired and dated and it just feels like the whole place needs freshening up. Sadly we waited 50 minutes for our food from the point of ordering, this is rather confusing as at the time we ordered there were no other diners (other than a couple who already had their food). When it did arrive my curry and boiled rice was fine with lots of chicken and filled me up. My husband's soup and sandwich was ok and my son said his pizza was nice. All in all the food was fine but the wait time way too long an we received no apology or explanation for this.

This grand-looking hotel - right opposite the popular Swallow Falls - gives the impression it might be a bit of a pricey stop for lunch. It isn't. But then the food was a big let-down. There's a downstairs bar and a much larger dining area upstairs. Despite its imposing position, this hotel offers cheap, unimaginative food - pizza, fish and chips and pies. My wife left the unappetising chips. I went for the least unappetising thing on the menu - a wrap - and it was pretty uninspiring. The only advantage is that you can park your car for free in the grounds if you are buying food or drink there. So worth the cost of a cuppa before you visit the Swallow Falls opposite. It's £1.50 to see them. Much cheaper and far less of a let down.

We went for tea and cake during an afternoon visit. Red flag alert as soon as we arrived as the waitress started to explain to us how busy they had been and that there was only 2 of them in so they were closing the kitchen and they were only light bites available. We ordered 2 pieces of cake and 2 teas. We waited patiently as eventually she brought 2 cups with 2 different saucers plus a stainless steel filthy teapot which had seen better days. The cake arrived and it was really dry to the point of asking the waitress, ‘have you any pouring cream?’ just so we could get it down the red lane! The answer would you believe was “no”. I poured the tea from the teapot and more of it went on the table then in the cup. Finally the bill was an extortionate £14 pounds and 40pence I kid you not. Asked if everything was okay I said “The cake was very dry” she replied, “It’s been in the sun!” Anyway that was our experience and looking at reviews it seems it’s normal .
