Super carry out fish and chips. Beautifully cooked fresh fish, and an over abundance of chips. Scampi and smoked sausage suppers were all first class. Expensive perhaps, but worth it for the quality.

Expensive Fish and Chips Big box but small portion! Guessing trying double fried chips but need bit more frying regardless. Overall disappointed as poor value for money average meal 😪

We were here for a short weekend stay and decided to pop in for some chips on the way home. I have to say, these are the best chippy chips I’ve ever had! We’ll be back next time we’re in town for sure :)

Certainly not a fine dining spot but good food. Shared the mussels as a starter and they were spot on. Partner had fish and chips and said were as good as any where else or maybe even above. I had salmon which was ok but the homemade onion rings were the BEST I had had anywhere. Would recommend this place for dinner.

Our tour guide recommended this restaurant for the best fish and chips. She was right it was truly the best fish and chips that my husband and I have ever had! We also shared muscles which were very good. Our server, Declan was excellent, he is a student at St Andrew’s University. I took the picture after we started eating.

It was such a treat to meet Mark and have his happy cajoling and teasing as we ordered. Seeing him Front of House and deal with customers was a pleasure to behold. What a very invested, professional fella. Oh, and the food was first class too! 😆

Unbearably greasy, I know this is a chip shop and you might not be expecting a complaint about oil as you deep fry food but the oil in this food was excessive.

Worst chips ever! Reheated and dry! This place used to be the best but has gone down hill! Total waste of money and will not be back.

Not to die for. I appreciate that after eating in some other places this restaurant’s fish and chips may seem qualitatively better it is not “to die for”. Even if you are naturally suicidal. In fact it is a clean normal place to have a good if not exceptual meal. I too think it is a bit pricy for what they serve, but, I am a New Yorker and my opinions shouldn’t be trusted by those who think this place is fantastic. .

Of the many fish suppers I have sampled in the East Neuk, this was the most average, not bad, but far from outstanding. Service was quick, and fairly cheerful, prices on the high side ( it's St Andrews after all) . Chips were alright, but again not great, fish again was not bad, but pretty small ( other chip shops locally give you two pieces, Tailend give one, and a not a big one either) Wouldn't be rushing back, far better places in surrounding towns

Was recommended to us and was spot on. Great fish and chips - nice sized piece - also went with grilled Tiger prawns (outstanding) and Greek salad was a surprising excellent choice - included pesto. Can eat in or do takeaway. Nice sit down area. Would definitely recommend.

Beautiful fresh fish from battered haddock to lobster and Dover sole. Good wine including fine champagne. Service is always friendly and efficient. A real gem.

As usually I often go here but don't say much but I have to say the standard of food is slipping. The fish is over cooked to the point the fish inside the batter is actually crispy ...crisper than the batter. The chips used to be the best in st andrews , now 1⅓ have black bits eyes, from potatoes and worse even black from being burnt... THIS SHOULDNT happen actual burnt black chips and I don't mean little bits here there I mean all. And for the price it's expensive ...worth stravveling and waiting in que at anstruther.

Excellent food and hospitality. Restaurant manager was incredible and offered wonderful advice regarding gluten free options and recommendations. The food was absolutely beautiful. Would highly recommend.

When we arrived they could not find our booking which I had made online 3 days earlier. They did fit us in but we waited almost 1 and a half hours for our main course. The food was great when it did eventually arrive but took far too long. Won’t be back

Wow! The best fish and chips I have ever had! The fish was perfect, not an ounce of fat on the plate and the mushy peas were divine too. All within a beautiful restaurant with excellent service.

The food was amazing but the service was atrocious. Also they lost our booking even though we had confirmation on our phone. They did find us a table but we waited for over an hour between eating our starters and getting our mains. I was embarrassed for suggesting we eat there.

I came here with my family and we had a great dinner. The price is good for the amazing food. The fish is well cooked and the chips are just perfect. They also do specials like soup and certain odd types of fish. They do sit in and take away. Overall a large choice of food and drinks, I definitely recommend it to anyone to wants a good dinner of fish and chips.

We just stopped by St. Andrew for a few hours on our way home and decided to grab some food. We ordered several portions of fish and chips for takeaway, but we also dined in. However, we were surprised to find that they had added a service charge for takeaway orders. Additionally, it would have been helpful if they had informed us that ordering from the counter at the front is significantly cheaper than ordering from the restaurant. We assumed that takeaway prices would be consistent with the restaurant prices, but this was not the case. It seems like we were taken advantage of, and we won't be returning to this place again.

After visiting here year after year when we visit St Andrews, sadly we won’t return. Firstly we had to ask for a new tea cup as clearly the one put down was badly stained/dirty and I really don’t understand how the server couldn’t see this without being told. Then half way through our meal my husband discovered a dead fly stuck to the side salad 🤢 We alerted a member of staff who apologised. When paying our bill we were told they would deduct the pint of beer from the bill !! After settling the bill I later discovered 12.5% tip is automatically added to the bill. That is shocking and should be discretionary by the customer. If known I would definitely not have left a tip. Sadly that’s the last time we will eat here.

I don’t say this lightly, but this was the best gluten free fish and chips I have ever had. The quality of the fish was amazing, the batter light and cooked through with no sogginess at all. The taste was sublime and I am already excited to return. My partner also really enjoyed his non-gluten feee fish and chips. A gorgeous menu that on the day included market fish such as sea bass and mussels. Lots of happy faces in this restaurant. Thank you 🙏

Visiting an undergraduate grand-daughter, I followed her recommendation to visit a favourite of her gang. Not disappointed! It is more than a fish and chip place (although they looked good). It offers a basic , but pleasant dining room with good, friendly service and a decent range of menu. After losing any enthusiasm for Cromars along the street, it was time to return to Tailend for a carry-out. Have to declare that the Special (breaded) Haddock Supper was absolutely superb on several fronts. The size and quality of the haddock was most satisfactory, the breaded coating was light, crisp and golden, the cooking was exemplary and the chips were flavoursome and beautifully cooked - with no green chips. Overall this experience was most agreeable - although I'd appreciate if the management reinstated the 'Specials/Catch of the Day' board to tempt customers to move beyond Haddock and Chips.

Excellent fish and chips in a limited menu. Service was a bit distracted, maybe because the place was very full. We didn’t drink but there seem to be a wide array of beers and cocktails to choose from.

Why not cook the food a little faster? Most of the queue are looking for a fish supper so think ahead. I queued for 35 minutes while you managed half a dozen orders. There are too many staff doing hee-haw behind that counter. Invest in something more than a scrap of paper to control the orders and get employees who can think for themselves. I'm not coming back until you fix things.

Booked a table in the restaurant for 6.00pm. slow service and slow delivery of food. We seemed to be second in line to the punters on the street. First time here and the food was first class, my Arbroath Smokie was first class as was my parents Haddock fish and chips, would highly recommend this place and I will be back in the future.

Had dinner with a friend during recent visit to St Andrews and highly recommend Tailend. I had the king prawn starter and grilled salmon main, my friend had fish and chips. Both were excellent, and because I had Arbroath smokies on past trips to Scotland, I ordered one here. I have to say that if you enjoy smoked fish the Arbroath smoky is hard to beat. The food was excellent and the service was fast and efficient.Highly recommended.
