The Glen Tavern in Fife

Absolutely terrible customer service from the manager. His attitude is appalling. The food was not good and he could not care. He also clearly is not a fan of children, given he complained that my 2 year had his foot on a chair (want to note, he was not standing or jumping on the seat, the back of his foot was touching his seat). We were told they don't put sauce on children's pasta so it comes completely dry and 2 of the adult meals were cold. The manager, Graham, just shouted at us and told us we are free not to come back. Used to be a great place - gone downhill now and I wouldn't go back or recommend. Avoid.

Disappointed as used to be a regular visitor pre Covid. One of the mains came out freezing in the middle so was unable to eat, sauce in the wrap was a horrible salty flavour and chicken tasted like jelly. Mentioned this to one of the staff and the owner rudely argued back saying ‘people order these everyday and no one has ever had an issue so must be you’ had mentioned about us not enjoying the food to what he replied ‘why don’t you put a bad review all over Facebook?’. Utterly disappointed if I’m honest, not even an apology from the owner and he couldn’t care less, he would rather just argue with customers in the middle of the restaurant.

Love this place. Such a friendly cosy restaurant. My husband and I visited today as we received a voucher for Christmas. Food was piping hot and delicious. We were served quickly and didn’t wait between courses. Staff are excellent and very attentive. Prices are reasonable compared to other restaurants. Sarah the owner is lovely and also Graham. It was a visit for lunch. I often frequented for lunch a few years ago. I loved it the staff were friendly and service was quick. Good food, what more can you ask for.

Fabulous Christmas lunch today with excellent service from a very young experienced staff. Garlic mushrooms were very tasty but a little too salty. Turkey dinner was perfect followed by sticky toffee pudding.

After returning from Cullross, I stepped into this fabulous old type public house... Beautifully laid out.. Smart looking ladies serving.... And I met the owner/manager... Was asked to stand in a corner away from the ambience of the the crowd, no salutations given.. And a beer placed in front of me... Ruined that part of my holiday (momenteraly) however... In such situations.. I tend to vote with my feet.... To give the benefit of the doubt (I'm hoping he was having a bad morning) And I'll leave it at that... DJ McGuigan 🇮🇪 ☘

Visited pre covid back 15th November 2023 same 2 issue s. Cold steak pie served on cold plates and vile cheap tasting tea sadly no tip wholly disappointing.

Unfortunately tasty enough food convivial atmosphere. Last here pre covid visited again 15th November 2023 same issue cold steak pie served on cold plates and cheap horrible pots of tea. Hence no tip visit ruined, sadly waste of money and disappointment.

Totally blown away by this place. The decor is good and we were seated having booked ahead. Had the haggis pakora, incredible!!!. Haggis chips were terrific value and burger with haggis was a great addition. Desert we tried was chocolate fudge cake which was insanely good and well worth the extra. Service was terrific but only lost one star for it being a little on the chilly side inside but it was a chilly night. Terrific value for money and will be back here again.

Another fabulous meal at the Glen tavern. Can’t fault this place. Great food and excellent customer service. Would highly recommend.

Went for a meal with a friend of mine , we hadn't booked a table but after 5 mins we were sitting at one , very nice staff not intrusive but attentive. Great food at a great price. Lovely wee place. Thoroughly recommend it.

Great place to eat, plenty delicious homemade food choices, had lunch here on a very wet Wednesday afternoon and there were quite a few diners in at the same time. Highly recommended the macaroni! Staff attentive and polite. Prices are very fair and portion sizes good. Delicious shortcake cheesecake for pudding.

Having had a couple of bad dining experiences here (admittedly during the Pandemic) we were a little reluctant to return, but did so on Monday 30th October and can say we were both very glad that we did. The likes of Wetherspoons and Seven Kings (both, no thanks !) aside it's quite difficult to get a pub lunch in Dunfermline early during the week so we decided to take a short walk down and give the Glen Tavern another go. From the minute we walked in service was absolutely excellent. Girls on the bar were polite and friendly, and the waiter - who was on his first day no less - was superb. Both went for two courses of starter and main and both left very empty clean plates. Combined with 2 cracking pints of Moretti our bill was still less than £38 - which in this day and age is genuinely outstanding value. Very glad to see this place back, bang on form, for the service and more importantly the food. Certainly won't be leaving it so long until we are back again !

This place truly is a great find, My family and I went along today on a cold wet Sunday afternoon , we were warmly greeted and shown to our table, the staff were attentive and very helpful. As for the food, well all meals were very tasty and delicious and worth the money. We have no hesitation in recommending this place to our friends and family. Went for a buffet breakfast as a group of around 30. Staff were very attentive and helpful, food was plentiful and freshly cooked. Will definitely be back.

Found this place on way home and had a lovely impromptu meal. The chinese chicken curry and steak pie were very good and piping hot. Not huge portions but plenty. We had double nougat wafers for dessert. Excellent value, good menu and the staff were friendly and attentive without being intrusive.

Well wow food absolutely delicious the beef was so soft gravy omg the best, garlic mushrooms not a thing I'd normally eat but wow again loved them partner had the gammon of course I tasted it and again delicious and the waffle mmmmmmm , chef take a bow , staff are also lovely with very good customer service and very polite ,we will definitely be back 10 + stars 🌟 from us xx thank u xx

ZERO stars - the owner of this place is SO rude. Went as a family of five yesterday and was turned away because my 7 year old was wearing a Cairneyhill football top after playing with them earlier in the day. I understand no football tops for adults but children out with there family? His manner was awful and made my child cry! It’s well known in the area how horrible this guy treats his staff & customers going by all the reviews about him. If you really hate people that much maybe re-think your job or stay in the back out the way! Such a shame as this place & food used to be good. Will never be back.

Decided to eat here last minute and it was a pleasure. I haven’t been in the Glen Tavern for a very long time and I’ll definitely be back, food was lovely and the staff very friendly and helpful.

Truly disappointed in our meal and service tonight for a special birthday treat. We arrived for dinner and requested a cake and candle for a family meal. Starters were good and a speedy service, then mains arrived and well it went downhill from there the birthday girl found a long black hair in her roast dinner sandwiched between the beef and let the owner know who promptly took the plate away and returned a minute or so later to say the hair was my mums and who has short grey hair! Rather than apologise for this they rudely ignored us for the rest of the meal by avoiding clearing the plates away and then avoiding taking a dessert order meaning the kids didn’t even get their ice cream. I’ve never had a bad meal in all the times we’ve been and we wouldn’t have let this stop us returning but the poor service and the accusation from the owner has put paid to that we won’t be back.

We were sick hearing how good this place was and decided to give it a go and reviews looked promising, we had the special which was soup then what was ment to be a roast pork dinner ,soup was good not great and the pork was nothing but fat with a weird 'gravy' with lots of potatoes not what we were expecting as a roast dinner we witnessed lots of people not finishing plates of food and sending food back ,not for us and won't be back ,im just being honest staff were very nice though I really don't understand what all the reviews are on about when there's much nicer places about we left still hungry

I am reviewing here after trying to give an honest and non malicious review on their facebook pages. Dont bother doing that, if they dont agree with your opinion or simply dont like it, they will delete it. The food was excellent, and for the most part the service was also very good. The service stalled when we were forgotten about and had to sit with our dirty dishes from our main course for a very long time, and wait for ages for a sweet menu. We had to attract attention from one of the waiting staff, that wasn't easy and we shouldn't have had to. We could have overlooked this minor issue but the whole experience was spoilt on arrival of the bill. We have been to many eating establishments and this is the only one that saw fit to charge 20 pence for a glass of tap water. Apparently it is a legal requirement to provide water if asked by a customer, but the business is entitled to charge for use of a container, how ridiculous. Most businesses offer the water as a courtesy, since technically it costs them nothing. Finally, it isn't very businesslike for a manager/owner? to walk around wearing shorts, unless there is some medical reason for doing so. Smarten up, treat yourself to a shirt and tie, and a pair of trousers, you'll earn much more respect that way, for goodness sake. You can use your profit from your tap water sales!!!

Went for a Sunday bar lunch me & my wife, we both had the roast dinner which was excellent very tasty plenty of choice on the menu for food & drink. Staff were very attentive & helpful. Prices very reasonable would go back again without hesitation.

Came today food was lovely girls were lovely but the rude little man there really needs some people skill , he was so rude to me and my friend , told her 1 door was locked go out the other , then told me not to go out the door he had told my friend to saying it’s says no exit , Which it did but as the other door was locked and he just said that to my friend , he replied it’s open now , no need at all , just plain rude , won’t be back he surely is ruining a gr8 little pub

Great pub and restaurant for everyone and their dog

This place is usually our local if we fancy a bite to eat after work or on our way home but the food tonight has really put us off. The macaroni cheese was a bowl of oil pretty much, not sure if when I sent it back they just drained it and added some cheese but there was barley any sauce in it, if anything my pasta was just coated in oil. They brought me my chips and salad back out and the macaroni shortly after? Which was odd meaning the chips would go cold. Couldn’t be bothered sending it back a second time. Husbands Scampi was mediocre. Prices have gone up, macaroni is now £9.10 for a smaller portion and worse quality. Which is ashame because it’s usually lovely. Can’t fault our server as she was lovely and is always lovely when we are in. But wouldn’t rush back if at all.

Popped in for tea before going to the theatre. Food was so delicious. Service ways quick and everything was well organised. Staff were friendly too. We received good portions. The pudding were fab too. Will def return and recommend

Phoned to make a reservation for lunch.The weather was beautiful and asked about a garden table. Told couldn't reserve a garden table but could an inside one. OK. I was early to meet my niece and I sat in the garden at the front. Niece arrived. My phone rang with a call I had to take. A young woman came out of the puband went to the gate. I assumed she was making sure it was unlocked. She went back in with not a word. Finished my business call and we went to the door. It was locked. Decided to go out the gate and try the other door. Gate was locked. She had locked us into the garden and out of the pub without saying a word! I rung the bell and was told to use the other door. I'm a 69 year old woman and wasn't prepared to try and climb over the gate. We were reluctantly buzzed in No one at the bar. Eventually we were told to go through to the other empty room. The other young lady was pleasant when she served us. Food was OK pub type. Won't be back as welcome was definitely lacking. And ambience non existent in an empty room with a woman using another table as an office to do pub business. Weird.

Very clean. Great staff. Reasonable prices for food. It's mostly frozen stuff, is my guess, so don't expect fine dining, but more than good and great VFM. Did I mention that it is very clean? If you're in need of a pub, you'd not go far wrong 👍

The owner and his wife are two of the rudest people I’ve come across in a pub. A group of girls were singing and far from being rowdy….to the disgust of others in the pub , they were asked to leave. Others in the pub were ignored when saying to the plump owner that he was out of order. I thought my last visit , when the owner refused to serve a guy with a medical condition , thinking he was drunk , was a one off. Obviously not.

Went into this pub for a few beers with friends after a visit to the glen The owner is one of the rudest men i have ever came across.. The bar staff very also very rude there was a man at the bar who had a stutter and was struggling to get served and after he left they were making a fool of the man. Can say i wont be back …

Very cosy restaurant. Great number of options in a very varied menu with excellent portion sizes and very reasonably priced. I'm reliably informed that the steak pie, chips and vegetables were excellent. Being a vegetarian I chose a veggie burger which was accompanied by onion rings, salad, chips and coleslaw which were also very good. The staff were very attentive with smiley faces. Bottles of hand sanitizers were on the tables. The toilets were very clean and well maintained. I would highly recommend this restaurant and hope to be back soon. Had lentil soup which was accompanied by two slices of bread and butter. The soup was thick and full of flavour.

Lovely wee tavern... But pity about a certain employed individual... As we did a year ago previously, I headed for a table as was very quiet... To be told "you can't seat yourself" , the issue being the way it was said.. Our group of people 6 & 4 dogs were instructed & spread between 2 tables (that's fair enough) but same person talking to us like children... My daughters nervy young pup barked once, for grumpy to say "right we can't have that...." As stated, last year had lovely meal & were very politely served ... Unfortunately not so this year.....customer facing staff should have a far better persona than this individual...

pubs lovely enough. but bald guy could have a bit of training on customer service, unwelcoming and rather blunt towards guests. Edit (reply as I must have touched a nerve & not sure how the pub knew this was us): The place had a few tables, the guy who served my dad had first told him not to sit down and to wait. Dad had stood back, could have been a bit more welcoming and saying we will get you seated. Had no clue you had to make bookings, my sister had first asked if we were able to come in and was told it was alright. Then the guy was bit forward saying to sit at different tables and which was fine but made a bit of a fuss with seating as though was too much of a bother - hence feeling unwelcomed. If having 6 adults and 4 dogs was too much, we wouldn't have been bothered if turned away. The dog 'barking' did not growl, if growling would have took her straight out. She was unsettled but completely understand having a barking dog in a restaurant is disturbing for others and also giving workers a fright and making them feel uneasy. However, the way that the man had just instantly turned around and snapped that wasn't allowed, was blunt. I'm sure everyone somewhere has had an experience with a screaming child or someone somewhere has had a dog barking, that's the restaurants choice to allow both and what comes with the responsibilities. The only issue we had was the attitude, it takes two seconds to say in a nicer way about what happened and therefore, the mannerisms were blunt and we were taken back realising we weren't welcomed and decided to leave. Everyone else had seemed lovely but the man himself must have had a bad day. I read a review below about same man, so hence my comment on some customer service training - working with the public isn't easy, but a good attitude goes a long way.

Food looked/smelled fantastic, with good options on the menu. However, the manager/hobbit with the shorts on (Saturday night) deserves a mention. Made to feel like a ginger step child as soon as we walked in. Clearly uncle Bilbo’s hospitality has never been passed on. Always fancied a pint in here (tavern after all) and glad it was the one. I had tried to get a table for 3 forgets day however the glen was fully booked. Sarah I'm sure kept my number and called me at shirt notice to say they had a space. Great stuff... Went along an as normal they went out there way to to make sure we got what we asked for. Good food and great service. Thanks again ..

I was there some time, so when I ordered my 3rd Latte en route to toilet, I asked bar girl if they done toasties, she hesitated for a second, looked at til and said yes, I said cool, another Latte and a Cheese and Onion toastie. I’m just popping to toilet, she did ask if I wanted soup, which I thought was a weird question, I said no, just a toastie. I came back, sat down, she delivered my latte, she was about to put a wrapped spoon and knife I think it was. All very strange. toastie came out with a side salad and some Doritos in a wee dish. Again it looked strange considering, I just wanted a toastie. It tasted ok. When I got call my car was ready, got up, paid bill at bar. £13.20. ok I said, how does that break down, I looked at bill £5.55 for a cheese and onion toastie. What!! Two slices of bread and some cheddar. Wow. 3 lattes came to £7.65 decent value. But £5.55 for a toastie. When I got home, I went onto site, seen a menu, and seen that a sandwich or toastie comes with a bowl of soup. Which is weird. If I had been told that it only comes with soup. I would not have ordered a toastie. And I certainly did not appreciate paying for a bowl of soup I did not get or want. So, as far as staff goes, the guy was tremendous, offered me to put wifi into my MacBook, and sorted out my Latte request. But I feel like I left getting ripped off. £5.55 for a cheese and onion toastie. Hence the low rating.

This pub isn't too far from where I live, and I decided after a few months of living nearby that on the way back from somewhere I would stop in for an evening meal. As soon as I went through the door, I was greeted...

Popped in for food as I was just on my way back from the park, and as soon as I got through was greeted by a staff member and sat promptly at a table. The food and drink I ordered came very quickly, and the steak and haggis pie is delicious. Prices are reasonable too. Comes highly recommended, well worth a visit!

BEWARE - not dog friendly! We visited on a Monday evening when the pub was very quiet with a few of our friends & our well behaved greyhound! As we started eating our starters, a male member of staff walked by & muttered you’ll need to move your dog & walked off - not sure where he wanted our dog to disappear too as he could not fit under the tables and he was just lying next to our booth and there was room for people to walk by. This made us feel very uncomfortable, however, we finished out starters. As our mains was delivered another male member of staff approached out table & very rudely stated we had been told once we needed to move our dog as he was in the way! Shocked I asked him where he wanted us to move him too, he didn’t have an answer, I suggested we move to a different part of the pub with slightly more room, but this wasn’t good enough for the staff member so I said I was leaving. He stated that if the place was busy my dog wouldn’t have been allowed in…again not exactly DOG FRIENDLY! He also said that because our dog was large we should have rang ahead & they would have accommodated him…what are they going to do build an extension plus there was like 4 other people in! I therefore left and told my friends who stayed behind I would pay for the starter and drinks but not the main as I did not get the chance to finish it! This was not good enough for the staff and they decided to hold my friends hostage saying the main’s were served and therefore they needed paying for, they also threatened my friends saying they were calling the Police. My friends left my contact details but of course the Police did not attend as no crime had been committed. A lady from the table opposite us stated to staff that she thought their customer service was appalling and my dog was very well behaved, it was the staff’s actions that caused the problems. To this the rude male staff who I mentioned earlier stated “what’s it go to do with you” containing his theme of great customer service. This caused the lady’s husband to state they wouldn’t be back due to the poor customer service. To summarise if you have a dog I would not visit this establishment as it is not dog friendly as advertised, especially if you have a large dog breed & the staff are very rude - apart from the young female who took our order, she was very nice to both humans and my dog! If I could give zero stars I would, however, one seems the minimum!

We had a lovely meal in The Glen Tavern on Wednesday 25th January 2023. The great choice on the menu made it difficult to decide. There were four of us including a wheelchair user and the staff couldn't have been more attentive and helpful. It was the first time here but it certainly won't be our last. Certainly would recommend it 100%

Food was ok, service a bit slow but I think we were in the secondary restaurant. Wide range of menu items, good value, but could have offered another round of drinks which would have been taken up.
