Awful noisy place, supposedly rock music but nothing I recognised, sticky tables, won't be going back

Not been here for about 20 years, but popped in with some local band friends. Not really changed in all that time! Friendly atmosphere and we finally got to have Our "Beer at the swan" 🤘🏻😅👏🏻😊

Top little rock pub, a definate dying breed. They don't do food apart from bar snacks but the clientele are relaxed, the jukebox has many an old classic and brings back fond memories of the upstairs rock nights of my yoof! Always visit when we're in the city.

Frequented place since mid 80's. Back then the beer was quality, atmosphere was good and juke box on the money with classic rock, alternative etc... The rot started about 15 years ago, but now we have appalling overpriced undrinkable beer and chippy attitudes from the younger generation both in-front and behind the bar. Even the jukebox just churns out tedious death metal these days. So disappointing to see the decline. Regrettably recently the prices have gone up even more, there is no encouragement to entice customers into the premises as the manager simply doesn't care. End of an era. Really have to add this latest classic. It was well documented that the pub had no Trooper beer when Iron Maiden played, several years back....well there was no Guinness on St Patrick's day this week either. Town was rammed, yet people were walking out laughing when told there was no Guinness.... I have no words.... An amoeba could run a pub better than this.

Sadly the cask beer was dreadful. The Wobbly bob was passable but when that finished the other recently added cask was undrinkable.

No natural light. You'll never find someone doing a Teams call. Great free Juke Box providing you like last centuries Heavy Metal and Karl Marx on the wall. I'm not saying there's Vampires in Liverpool, but if the undead like a Pint this is where they'd go. I've been coming here for 30 years.

Luke says the pints are better in Dublin.

No food. But amazing place. Rock pub. Amazing jukebox. Great hangout. Suitable for all ages who like the heavier music.

A good rock pub is a dying breed. Very happy to discover one that's still going strong. Good beer, friendly bar staff, an old-school jukebox where you still get to put five Rammstein tracks on for a quid. What more do you want?

The last bastion for bikers rockers and rag tags in Liverpool, juke box legendary. May it live forever

The pub was packed, but somehow we managed to squeeze in and even get seats. Would come again just for the music. Suitable for metalheads!

UPDATE Jan 2025 (in brackets). Its been a long drawn out fall. The ale isn't looked after, or is old stock, or is just cheap crap sold large. Hygiene standards are frightful. Camra don't even bother mentioning it anymore. Far cry from 15 to 20 years ago. Sad decline. (Camra announces that the Swan NO LONGER SERVES REAL ALE ). ......Says everything you need to know

Still a great pub, not changed with the times.

I'm not a real drinker, but that's the main attraction of this pub, except for the duke box. Whiskey selection was pretty good too.

Good pint of Wobbly Bob. And a great end to our night.

An institution and still THE rock bar in Liverpool (am aware there is a newly opened one, not tried it yet). Always a decent pint of Trooper or Wobbly Bob on tap. Still have "fond" memories of the downstairs toilets. Been going over 30 years off and on, long may it keep going.

It would be 5 star review, unfortunately there's a member of staff well two. Who aren't the friendliest or helpful.

One of the few bars locally now that's a rock bar, love the place. Jukebox plays great music. My non rock loving friends like it here also

Was the bar staff, doing their job correctly, at 11 pm ???? Of course they were. Some customers are so socially ignorant..!!!

Atmosphere when we went was brilliant. The heavy metal was great.we have probably been well over a thousand times. We always go when in Liverpool.

Rude, miserable bar staff made us feel unwelcome. Sanitary product machine in ladies toilet completey destroyed. Would it kill someone to put some cushions down on the rock hard chairs please. Also, don't order a spiced rum, mine was absolutely disgusting.

I came here for the first time last night and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The atmosphere, staff and everyone in there was so nice. Lovely old juke box and just lovely times

Worth visiting for jukebox and whats served on tap. Tends to be a nice crowd with all the mooks attracted to concert Square and such. Tired inside but you're not there for the decor Possibly my favourite place in the city for a pint and chat.

Great little venue with rock music!

A lot of student types with tattoos and metal piercings and has a magnificent jukebox of thrash metal. Beer was good and nobody bothered us. Loud and proud.

Great atmosphere in there, good little bar

A great Rock/Metal bar with an excellent selection of beers. There's a brilliant jukebox and a crowd of friendly locals. They have my favourite beer on tap. Even better, it's served in the correct glass by someone who is good at their job. They obviously care about their staff and customers. Great old school, dive bar for people who want to enjoy beer and music. Dive bar is not at all a criticism.

Was a regular 50 years ago, was the only Marstons pub in Liverpool that I knew of. Tiny place then with piano in the back. Expanded a bit now, no Marstons but still good beer and fantastic atmosphere.

If you like old school metal this place is for you. Nice relaxed atmosphere, good range of beers and and a great jukebox. What's not to like? 😃

We went to this pub specially, because we’ve been before and enjoy rock music. Wish we hadn’t, we put money in the duke box, didn’t get to hear any songs and as soon as the clock struck 11pm, a jobsworth girl with a bad attitude turned it off. Shame they didn’t care about their customers. I definitely wouldn’t recommend. Beer tasted awful too! No stars rating I’m afraid. ‘Shame’

I've had some of the best moments of my life in this place. Met some amazing people. Drank some fine beverages. Listened to some classic songs. It's a bar like no other. There's no snootiness. There's no aggression. No drugs. No knives. No fights. Just friendly people. Great selection of drinks. Good prices. Its been 21 years of good times for me. Here's to 21 more

Great dark place with metal music!

Everything was fine apart from the unprofessional, jobsworth door staff. We think my partners drink may have been spiked as she became quite ill, but hadn't actually drank that much. She ended up collapsing in a doorway outside, these guys just wanted her moved away from the premises and even found it amusing, when taxis ignored me, by cheering and hollering. I was also threatened by customers several times and these guys did absolutely nothing....zero! Nice pub and a nice atmosphere spoilt by rotten door staff who couldn't care less!

This is an institution, not a bar. If you're a metal fan in Liverpool it is must visit.

We went here to get some drinks and because of the storm my partners feet were extremely wet, since my partner is none binary I suggested to them to go to the women’s toilet with me to swap socks because first there is no toilet for none binary people or a disabled toilet, also my partner needed some help to take their shoes off, the staff lady comes knocking on the door saying it’s against the rules that “he” is in the toilet with me and I tried to explain to the woman that we are only swapping socks but she had no since of understanding or being even a little nice in fact she was extremely rude and told us other things we should have done and said we need to leave the pub and cant finish our drinks, I tried talking to the manager and he was even more rude, wouldn’t even look at me when I was trying to explain the situation and was laughing with his friends saying “he” shouldn’t go to the girls toilet and wouldn’t let me speak, all we got from this pub was dirty looks since the second we got into the pub specially from the same woman that kicked us out, it’s actually funny coz they have a massive picture of Marx on the wall and they’re a metal pub but they’re there talking about rules and kicking us out for something very minor and a miss understanding , all and all don’t recommend this pub specially if you are LGBTQ+ and or from a different ethnicity group.

Been drinking in the Swan for 40 years, and just walked out for the first time ever. If you employ bar staff who are openly arrogant and couldnt care less, and are actually outright rude you are getting it wrong.

Liverpool's classic Rock pub - maybe a wee bit on the expensive side (probably not their fault so much as being a result of our capitalist overlords), always worth the trip. Good jukey too!

Had a lovely time here - nice crowd and friendly staff! Jukebox was a cool feature and the red/warm white lighting was really good looking but not as straining on the eyes as some red lighting can be! Also, helped me after I lost my key there and kept it safe for me until pick up! All in all, great first impression :)

It was my very first time at the swan Inn last week and i loved it. The atmosphere was amazing the staff were friendly and obliging, drinks weren't expensive and great music playing. I will definitely come back

Cut your hair? Be prepared to get snotty looks. Used to come here in my late teens early 20's. Went a few weeks back for a swift few and just got daggers from everyone including the staff. No change from 15 years ago, just more expensive.

My "go to" pub whenever I am meeting up with friends in Liverpool. A great atmosphere and the jukebox is legendary.

Nice beer & nice down to earth staff. Terrific jukebox too. A rockers bar. Hard seating & furniture is basic don't expect luxury lol but a good place to go for company beer & rock music 🙂

First drank here in 1982. Went tonight , and got ignored by the 12 year old barmaid, who was more interested in serving mates and dancing to the jukebox. Get some decent staff.

I like the swan. It is quite a funny little place. The music is good vibes and there is always a great atmosphere. Once though, there was poo on thr sanitary disposal bin and it was really gross.
