Went here with the other half. Could not fault the service and could not fault the atmosphere. It was the Scouse that let it down. After looking at the rave reviews and also recommendations from people we thought we would give it ago. My vegan Scouse tasted ok but my other half took little taste from his folk (really should have been given a spoon) and did not like. The gravy too thick and salty. Not much else in it. He asked could he have the pie instead but the lady kindly explained it would be the same as all it is what he has already got with a pasty lid put on top. I felt bad eating so ate the lid and a little bit of Scouse and ate the mash and only had a little of my drink and then I just paid. The staff kindly remove the meat one off. Sorry to put this review as a really nice place but Scouse not up to expectations unfortunately.

Food was exceptional, we all got the roast dinners and cannot fault. The highlight of it all was the service. We had two waitresses and I genuinely don’t think I’ve met anyone happier in my life. Didn’t catch their names but it was 12:00 on Sunday 2/3/25! They are a credit to the business! Loved it here!!

It has a fantastic poetry event featuring local poets in the rum & rumba bar downstairs on the 1st Tuesday of every month

Visited here after cold water swimming at the Wyld sauna. Had a gorgeous bowl of scouse and a pint lovely.

Popped in today for a Sunday roast. Going to go out a whim and say this is the home of (probably) the best Yorkshire pud in Liverpool! Great value for money as the portion size was certainly not something skimped on at Ma Boyles, and the roast beef was perfectly tender! The service was fantastic, the member of staff serving us was very attentive and friendly. The meals we ordered came almost immediately. All of this, and great tunes to eat to. Importantly not too loud to put strain on your mealtime conversation. Will certainly be coming back again in the near future to try one of the other Sunday options, and recommend anyone else to do so too, but book early to avoid missing out on your choice of meat! TLDR; good value for money Sunday roast tucked away in Liverpool city centre.

Well worth a visit. Only heard about this place on Radio Merseyside, but the Scouse was delicious, according to my wife (nice beer too). I had the Scouse Cottage Pie, which was also delicious. Highly recommended.

If you thought Ma Boyle’s was a spit-and-sawdust kind of place, think again. This is a quality pub with excellent service and a welcoming atmosphere. The waitress went out of her way to help us, making sure everything was just right. The vibe is relaxed, and the clientele is a fascinating mix—from WAGs to musicians, all enjoying the great atmosphere. They also host jazz nights, which adds something a little different to the usual city centre pub experience. Plenty of tables available, plus a downstairs area if you want a more tucked-away spot. No parking (as expected in the city centre), but it’s well worth the visit. The food looked fantastic too.

We reserved a table but arrived early and they were able to give us a table. I wasn't sure on arrival whether I would like this place but thanks to the friendly service and great food along with a good atmosphere (it was pretty busy even at 5pm) my hesitation was unnecessary. This was our first taste the 'scouse' stew and it was delicious!

We had one day in Liverpool so had to have Scouse. Loved it cottage pie style and the Chardonnay I had with it was delicious too.

One of my fav spots in the city for a pint and food. Great spot for a Sunday roast, or Scouse. Very cozy little spot, tucked out of the way. Would strongly recommend booking in advance for Sunday roasts, as it can get busy. Staff always helpful and attentive.

What a gem of a place, we looked for somewhere we could take the little dog. And this place popped up food was amazing, staff brilliant. The onion rings are fabulous 👌

Really like our first visit here. Without booking the guys managed to accommodate our party if four. Food was very good. Served quickly and piping hot. Wouldn't have found it without an internet search but very glad we did. One for the note book if we're back in town.

We had the best time and the most fabulous food and drinks here. The roasts were beyond expectation and the service was so welcoming, friendly and helpful. Josh and the rest of the crewe made sure we had an amazing time and a superb feed. Really pleased that we ate here!.

Food was piping hot, tasty and plentiful. Service.was prompt, accurate, friendly but clearly professionally derived- someone knows their onions and the value of training staff kn securing the badic bedrock of high quality customer service. It would have been nearly perfect, except for the loud and intrusive music/ trivia quiz ...such is life...

As someone who used to work at Ma Boyles many years ago, I enjoy coming back with friends as a customer. Always get service with a smile and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. We are looking forward to attending a Monday quiz night soon.

Had a lovely experience at Ma Boyles yesterday. We were recommended to go here by John on his walking tour and suggested we tried the famous Scouse, it did not disappoint! Really friendly service, special shout out to Amy who looked after us very well ☺️

We had a large party go in for a roast dinner and we also had our dogs with us and the lady dealing with our table was very accommodating to everyone. The roast dinners were amazing, great portions and flavours. Highly recommend, will come again when in Liverpool.

Can't fault Ma Boyles, great pub, great location, right by St Nicholas Church, The Pier Head, and the city center, staff are first class.

What a wonderful place! First of all the service is beyond fantastic! I don’t think we’ve ever felt so well looked after in our lives! And then there is the food which is great quality for a very reasonable price. And finally, the drinks menu is also excellent, with a wide variety of options. The cherry on the cake is the live jazz band that’s playing on Saturday evenings. Oh, and the Sunday roast is also brilliant.

It's a nice pub with a good atmosphere and the female staff member was lovely. We had gone to listen to the live jazz band they were advertising, but disappointingly the male staff member refused to turn off the background music which ruined the experience.

Try local scouse here, it’s really good!

The service and food were amazing. Would totally recommend the blind Scouse pie. Waitresses were very attentive. We were sat upstairs and it was a bit noisy for me. Found I had to shout to be heard.

Madalina Was our host, looking after us, seven work colleagues came in For our works Christmas party, but because of the earlier people coming in late we were delayed getting our table she was such a lovely host even offered a complimentary drink because of the inconvenience so nice and helpful couldn't do enough for us too much food to show it all but we welcomed and enjoyed the night thanks to her looking forward to going back next time in the area

Ma Boyles was recommended after asking for the best homemade scouse restaurant whilst we were doing the yellow route bus tours. It is just a street back from the main road in front of the Albert Dock, The Strand. As there were only two of us, we got a table quite easily. And it was quite early being about 4.30pm. The staff were very friendly and gave us more information about ingredients etc. It is well worth a visit.

Great pub to find in a tranquil spot even though it’s so close to Pier-head. A couple of locally brewed cask ales on, it’s recommended you book in advance for food at popular times.

What a find this place is! Inside is lovely, it has a lovely atmosphere and is warm and welcoming. The staff are very friendly and very helpful. They don't rush you with your order but once you've ordered, the food and drink arrive quickly. We had the classic scouse and it was gorgeous. Just like my Mum & Auntie used to make. It was piping hot and the bread was warm and it was very filling. We'll definitely be coming back here next time we're in Liverpool.

I've had the scouse pie before which was so good and whilst looking for a breakfast spot I was showing someone where it was, turns out they do a breakfast the American style pancakes with berries is unreal! Lovely staff and very reasonable priced food. They were advertising a quiz night which I will definitely try and get to at some point.

What a feast - the perfect sunday roast - thank you. Loved it so much we booked for same time, same place next week. The pic below was the duo roast (chicken and pork). I had the beef - delicious. If you haven't been - its a must try.

Booked the downstairs room for a private party. Everything was great and the staff were so lovely and nothing was too much trouble for them. I'd give the service 10 stars if I could.

Top place , we took family visiting Liverpool from the south, and they loved it. The service was quick and the food was amazing , we have been a few times and it does not disappoint.

What a find! The food is brilliant and definitely not just standard pub grub! Great portions - great staff - great prices. We had a Sunday dinner (OMFG!!) which was probably one of the best we've ever had.... I even used a straw to drink my Gravy....sorry...not sorry! Went back a day or so later to see if it was a fluke but, no it was still sooooo yummy!

Enjoyed Monday night's pub quiz

Popped in late afternoon for beer and food. Friendly and efficient service despite it being busy. Standard 'pub fare' but done well, only minor very complaint...a bit more custard with the crumble would be good. Ma Pilsner was a good, went well with the food. Happy to recommend.

We came here to have bottomless brunch and it was a great experience. The large full English breakfast was delicious and more than enough to line your stomach for the decent selection of drinks on offer for the bottomless brunch. We will be back again soon.

Didn't have food. Just popped in for a drink with a few relatives. The staff were great, friendly and helpful. It's been a long time since I went to Ma Boyles, but I will definitely be going back soon. It's well worth a visit.

On arrival I ordered a bottle of wine (it had been a tough week) the meal was outstanding, i started with the cauliflower bites, tasty and light, the batter was perfect, Stunning sunday roast dinner, best beef gravy I have ever tasted! Huge Yorkshire pudding, being from Belfast we don't traditionally include them in our Sunday dinner, I'm used to aunt Bessie's!!(Frozen from a packet) Melt in your mouth roast beef and not just a slice but a full piece of slow cooked melt in the mouth beef brisket, roast potatoes, cabbage & carrots, I'm used to some mash with my Sunday dinner but there was more than enough of everything else to compensate. The atmosphere was lovely, the staff were very attentive and friendly. I declined dessert, but stayed around to savour the atmosphere of the bar, enjoying the background music and friendly folk, after an hour I decided to order the chocolate brownie, I was not disappointed, I deffo intend to return as often as I can for Sunday dinner as long as I'm staying in the city.

Amazing Sunday Roast! Quality ingredients and lovely meal. It was like your Mum would make you.. Apple Crumble and Custard was also delicious.. Staff are so friendly and welcoming.. Definitely recommend a visit to the oldest Pub in Liverpool..

My daughter got married on Saturday and the grooms family came over from Peru (he's half Peruvian). Anyway, they organised a Sunday lunch for both families at Ma Boyle's. 26 in total - no problem! The roast dinner was one of the best I've ever had! The beef was so tender it fell apart as you touched it with your fork. Everyone I spoke to enjoyed their meal. Service was fantastic and the staff were so friendly too. A massive shout out to Rachel who was so happy, bubbly and friendly. She couldn't do enough for her customers. I was really impressed. Ma Boyle's is a hidden gem in Liverpool city centre. It's literally hidden down a little side street off Water Street, (just passed Hooters). Its a small, cozy pub restaurant with 2 levels. The only negatives from my point of view are; 1. There is no wheelchair access. If you can't do stairs, it's not for you. 2. The tap in the loo is stupid. You have to keep it pressed to use it so can't wash your hands properly. 3. The door handle is missing on the inside of the toilet door. There is somewhere to open it but if you have weak wrists it'll be a challenge. Even with these faults, we'll definitely be going back! Highly recommended!!! (photo is of my family outside. Went ad hoc to try some ales but they only had 2 on that were Beatles named. Tried both but I thought they were a bit nondescript and tasteless. There is outdoor seating next to a picturesque church so off the beaten track so the settings was great. There was a jazz singer on at the time who was ok, jazz is not my scene but others were enjoying her. The gents toilets could have been cleaner also . I cannot comment on the food.

Despite running out of wine glasses. A great atmosphere inside and a very calm outside. Older age range, that suited me perfectly.

It's raining, there are plenty of free tables with no reservation marks, and the waitress says that since we don't have a reservation, there's no place for us. I don't recommend it.

I went here for dinner on a Monday night and from the very first moment I felt welcome! The dinner was amazingly delicious and the drinks were great. Special thanks to the lovely waitress for being so lovely!

This place is brilliant, excellent service, staff very friendly. there were 11 of us and our food was delivered in quick succession and piping hot, would definitely come again and I suggest you try it out!

A fabulous find in a wee back street close to the Mersey and the Liver Building. Bussy atmosphere, good service, good range of drinks and great food. Definitely recommend
