The Swan at Westgate in Thanet

Enjoyed our meal, waitresses were lovely, we were dining with 4 children and 4 adults, children were well behaved but at one point got up and moved to sit by the fire (which was not on), my husband got up to tell the children to come back to the table and at that point was approached by the manager and told to control our children, our son is 2 and had not caused any disruption or disturbed any diners, he could see my husband was dealing with the situation, the comments were unnecessary and spoiled the atmosphere and our dining experience. If you don’t want children to eat in your restaurant don’t have a child’s menu.

I went with a friend to the Swan and ordered a Masaman Curry and was told they didn’t have it. Ordered chicken in wine sauce and they didn’t have it. Ordered something else didn’t have it. My friend did the same. Everything we ordered nothing. In the end I said what do you have. We had to order something we didn’t really want which was not good. It also took a long time to arrive. I have been here before and food has been ok. Never the best but enjoyable. Sorry Swan. Can’t eat here again.

We only had drinks on this visit but the swan is a great place to visit.

Wow, what a lovely find. Booked online earlier in the week looking for Sunday roast by the coast. Menu was quite varied and rice was excellent value for money. Seated in the dining room (rather than the ‘carvery room’) which was delightful along with log fire. Food was very good and the services was really decent (doesn’t seem always to be the case these days) Will definitely be back!

Since its refurbishment with new owners The Swan has changed significantly for the better. Good food and drink, combined with courteous and professional staff.

Venue (function room) was a lovely place to have a carvery after a brisk walk to Margate and back. Food was really good - Thai Green Curry very flavoursome and a generous serving. I also tried a slice of the roast beef - succulent and tender. Staff very friendly and efficient.

Been here many times..good honest food including a Fabulous Sunday carvery. All prices well and potions generous. Never been disappointed. Staff are spot on...and very accomodating even if they're full they try their utmost to squeeze you in somewhere.

Went here with the fitsteps club and even though there were a lot of us eating drinking and dancing the lovely food just kept coming, buffet style. The hot and cold food was all delicious. Ordering drinks was a breeze and they were served in seconds. It's a very well run place

Had a lovely Christmas lunch today. Thank you so much to all the staff who were friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. We were a family with a wheelchair and a high chair. Everyone was accommodated comfortably. Food was great and everyone had a great time. Thank you!!

I do love this place, reasonable prices for a restaurant on the sea front which I love on a hot sunny day. The restaurant is very modern deco and is extremely stylish, the food is fabulous but expect to spend your money if you are not a light eater, mostly adults customer range, the staff are always happy to help and seem very busy but need to listen to the customers orders because we have a couple of mistakes which didn't ruin the evening. Worth a visit even to experience it and I can guarantee that you will have a return visit. Anyone who give a bad review on 'The Swan' must be having a bad day because I found nothing wrong with this place

So decided to venture out for a drink to celebrate a special occasion..pub was busy and we ordered our drinks Then we noticed the specials board and fancied having a bite to eat. Checked with staff if a dish was still available and they said yes. Booked a table and took our seat. Lovely to watch the log fire crackling, Nice atmosphere. Waitress took our order and commented that I was lucky as there was one dish left. Then 5 minutes later came to say that they had sold out at lunchtime of the dish but forgot to update the board. Poor communication from the kitchen to waitress. Put a damper on our evening.

Absolutely incredible food! The food was probably the best Carvery I have ever had the pleasure of trying, Portion sizes was enormous. The Staff were also incredible my son is Autistic and had an emotional overload due to a confusion over his food order and the staff were rapid to fix, understanding and empathetic. This is a hidden shining star in plain site and deserves full tables every single day

It was my first time at the Swan, the staff were great, showing me round to the carvery and even though I hadn't reserved a table, they accommodated me well. The waiters absolutely fantastic, a cappuccino to die for too!

Highly recommend the Sunday carvery, food was very good, good choice of veggies and good portion of meat. My only disappointment was that the gravy was a little watery. we thought it was very good value for money. it was a horribly cold rainy day when we went and the log burner was very welcoming, staff are friendly and the service was very good and its dog friendly as well. Will definitely return

Popped in for a pre and post cinema drink(5 min walk). Smart comfortable seafront pub. Great compact range of ales and beers. All well kept. Nice atmosphere. Friendly staff. Didn't eat but the menu looked really good and affordable. Recommended.

The Service was gold ⭐, served by Molly, who was professional and attentive. The Fajitas's were exceptional, thank you to the Chef. I will definitely be back. Well done The Swan!! All keep up with Sterling Service delivered every time.

We booked the swan for a wake this week Michelle and her team did an amazing job. They were kind, attentive and courteous. The food was delicious and perfect for the numbers. We needed more tea and coffee, do Michelle checked with us before brining out as it needed a top up payment. The room was comfortable and tastefully decorated. I can't thank them enough for their help with such a difficult and unexpected event.

What a fabulous venue. We held a celebration of my step dads life here. The staff were wonderful, the space was lovely and the food was amazing.

We enjoyed our dinner at the Swan - friendly staff and good food. We had a table overlooking the sea and our Border Collie was given treats and fresh water. We look forward to a return visit when we are in this area again.

You can’t beat the summer views when sat outside the Swan, especially on a Sunday afternoon when they have live music. Just take a seat and the staff come and serve you. Without doubt a member of staff by the name of Phil is a ray of sunshine. The swan are lucky to have him

This gastro/pub has an air of class about it . The customers are well to do people who like a pub lunch / dinner but with a touch of class . This is what they get , with articulate well trained staff who understand how to present a meal with style . The food on the menu is pub food , but it’s not average pub food it’s top quality . Our group of four chose the catch of the day haddock and the mountainous burger ? I think it was called between us , three chose the fish and one the burger . All plates were heaped with food and we all enjoyed what was put in front of us . So hats off to the swan for £17 a head we were fed and watered with soft drinks and coffees but with a grace you might struggle to find in central London

What a great bistro pub. Front looked clean upmarket new redecorated and welcoming. Walk through the doors and the inside was the same. Obviously been cleaned and well looked after. Staff were warm welcome and friendly. Food and drink both delicious and good variety. I look forward to their winter menu as I missed out on liver and bacon. The waiter even checked in case the kitchen had any. Very kind. I would imagine sitting outside when the weather is warm with a nice drink over looking the sea would be a perfect end to your day. Highly recommended.

Great carvery and you can go back for more. Lots of variety of vegetables. Nearly gave it five stars but the cauliflower cheese wasn't cheesy enough for me.

Although I didn't eat here the dining area was done to a high standard. A good range of beer. A nice seating area outside overlooking the bay area.

I have eaten here before with friends and it has always been great and so I decided to take other friends there for lunch. One of my guests had the pint of prawns, he said it was tasteless and had no flavour at all. He then had apple crumble and custard for dessert. When it arrived the small jug of custard was balanced on the side of the dish and as the waitress put it on the table it fell off spilling all over the table. The waitress asked if he wanted it cleaned up and he said yes please, she asked if he wanted more custard and he said yes please, she came back and the bottom of the very small jug was only just covered !!. I had opted for the Brie bacon and cranberry sandwich,it was dreadful just mush between two slices of bread. My other guest ate and said nothing, I feel the prices are too high for the quality of the food. It has certainly put me off returning or recommending.

We were served by Phil and Summer. The drinks came out extremely quick by Summer who was very polite, welcoming and efficient. Phil took our order with a smile, and our food was delicious. Beautiful views of Westgate bay - was able to watch the sunset. Will definitely be returning!

Beautiful views and outdoor seating Visited with our 9 week old baby, went in to ask for menus and was informed it was table service which was perfect. However we waited 25 minutes to order drinks after flagging someone to do so which was tricky with a baby. Ate dinner 55 minutes after arriving Chips were lovely, salad was plain and chicken halloumi burger had minimal sauce/flavour sadly

We had my mother's wake here and everything was perfect. The attention to detail and the food were absolutely brilliant. Thank you Michelle and all your lovely staff.

My vodka martini was served in the wrong glass and they refused to put an olive in it since olives were only for the kitchen. My bean burger was a disgrace. My other hall's fish and chips was passable. The prawn cocktail sauce was bland, and the dish came with poor-quality white sliced bread. Ditto the dressed crab. Not bad service.. But at 90 quid for that fare, we will never eat here again. On the plus side, for a drink against the backdrop of a beautiful bay ar sunset time, it's lovely and we may well return for the view alone.

Good food reasonably priced. Right by the sea so great views from dinning room. Staff are attentive and helpful.

Had lunch here today, whitebait and shell on prawns, my wife had Chicken Satay and the San Salad. All very good and great service. Lovely spot capped with a pint of Gadds No5. Job done!

We had our Wedding Reception here. Michelle & team made our day absolutely Perfect!! Can't praise them enough. Everyone had a wonderful time. We also had photos taken at sunset overlooking the sea. Wonderful venue with great seaview.

There was a singer and the weather was glorious

We booked a table in the ballroom to see the excellent local band called The Dial. We arrived early and ate outside, every table was occupied and the staff were worked off their feet but the service remained courteous and efficient. The ballroom was an excellent space to see the band and I will definitely be returning.

Went to the Swan Friday night for a couple of drinks, the 1st thing we noticed was the large sign saying if you wanted to use the toilets, you should follow the road around the side & take the 2nd door. Whilst having a drink, we decided to get some crisps, after trying to attract the waiters attention for about 10 mins, I decided to go into the pub to get them, as soon as I got to the bar, I was told "if you are sitting outside, it is table service only" I said that i had tried to get someone's attention & had been ignored & I only wanted 2 packets of crisps. I was served very reluctantly. Later after noticing how nice the food looked, we decided to ask for a menu, which was given to us, I asked to see the specials menu & was told to go & take a picture of it & look at it on my phone, the tables either side of us had the menu brought to the table, although 1 of those tables did by this time have the rude arrogant barmaid sitting there, so it appears it is 1 rule for them & another for the other plebs sitting outside, spending money at the pub. It also seem that if you are sitting outside they don't want you making the pub scruffy. They should have a sign up saying "if you are sitting outside know your place & stay out of our premises, although we don't mind taking your money" .

Have been going to this Pub restaurant for a lot of years, never having any reason to complain. Tonight the 6th June 2023, my husband and I, ordered the meal, both having the same, Chicken in white wine sauce with mushroom, we both had chip's, and I had carrots. When eating this meal, I felt something strange in my mouth, which upset me, I removed the food to find a long Blonde or fair strand of hair round the chicken, this made me feel sick. I called the waiter over and showed him the hair,he apologised, and said dont know who that belongs to , he took the food away, I informed him that I would not eat anything else. He came back and said it was the head chef, she normally ties her hair back, but tonight she did not, I said to him, all staff in kitchens should wear hats. My husband could not continue to eat his meal after this,and left it, I asked the waiter to take that away as well, because it also made my husband sick of what he saw in my dish. After asking for the bill, I said I'm not paying for the food, and only paid for the drinks. Our night was completely ruined. We do not think we could return now for any further meals at this Pub restaurant, which is a shame. We both used to like dining here, but no more. We always tipped the staff well whenever we went there. Hair in food is a total let down by the staff.

Lovely food, good choice & ample portions. Only complaint i personally would prefer more cheese in the cauliflower cheese. Ambience clean & fresh, tables with adequate space between. Staff polite but not intrusive, treating persons as individuals. Access to restaurant allows for those with walking difficulties Definitely returning

I was disappointed to find that the website stating “Main Menu 7 days per week” isn’t actually true. The Sunday menu is a far reduced affair, although there was a few additional items on the blackboard. I then selected the carvery solely on the basis...

I drink in here and eat from time to time but as I live in Rochester it’s not regular, I was in the bar last night and felt compelled to congratulate you on such competent staff. There was not a manager in sight and yet they didn’t stop working finding things to do all the time I was there, so much so it is why I am writing this. We had a wonderful experience at The Swan for our Cinque Ports Mayors Association lunch. The venue is in a stunning location and the events room was a sparkly and beautiful sight in the winter sunshine. Photos can’t do it justice. The food was lovely....

Wow just wow!!! It's the first time we went for food here. Nice quiet place in winter with 7 tables, lovely view of the sea. Seating outside too for the warmer months. The food I thought was a little pricey at £15 a plate UNTILL it came out, it was mahoosive I had chicken in white wine creamy mushroom sauce with new potatoes that were sizes of normal potatoes, carrots and beans. My husband had a very big chicken bacon and brie burger with the biggest seasoned chips you've seen and salad. Even the salad was perfect. We were in HEAVEN. And to top it off we got a mint each with our bill. We gave the lovely waitress a tip as was well deserved. Planning to go back very soon as can't stop talking about it. We'll worth the price!!

Only stopped for a drink after a lovely walk. Very friendly staff welcomed us on arrival, and we're accommodating for a small group who only wanted a quick drink. Decorated very fancy but still reasonably priced.

Four of us had a lovely meal here. Not lots of choices on the menu but specials were available also. Food was really nice and hot. Place was clean and staff were friendly. Only thing that spoiled it for me was the smell of fish...
