A great little pub with good customer service and a good selection of both ales and largers and spirits

Nice pub in good location Can't comment on food as i didnt eat here, and it was very quiet when I visited so can't really comment on atmosphere

Unfortunately I found it to be dingy and boring with no comfort feel to it.. Seats lack any comfort. Small area, though it does have a pool table and dart board available.

Local pub do not tell the tourists!

I wanted NO STARS but that was not an option. If you happen to a serving or former Armed forces I would not visit this pub under its's current ownership after refusing entry to 3 senior (youngest was aged 66) ex Commando Gunners because they wore polo shirts with the Commando dagger emblem. For which all serving and former serving Commando's hold in the highest regard. There are plenty of other pubs were the serving and former serving soldiers, sailors and airforce are more than welcome try "The Navy" "The Ship" The Dolphin" "The Three Crowns", "The Fishermans" were you will always get a warm welcome. UPDATED REVIEW having now found out the story behind the refusal. That having had younger serving members in the same shirts causing a disturbance earlier in the day had placed a ban on the same shirts entering a bit heavy handed given the age of those refused entry who over the years had spent many sessions in the Swan and will now never return along with quite few others from the retired service community who only saw the ban as being directed at the Armed Forces serving and retired.

Rude bar staffs with bad attitude. Instead of asking for my ID, they accused me for not having one and told me to leave while pointing a finger at me. No one was at the door checking for ID, I hadn't brought a drink yet so no one was asking for my ID. I got a bit annoyed but still showed them my ID after their accusation. They said i got a bad attitude and accused me for swearing at them, I didn't even say anything and I got my friends beside me witnessing the whole ordeal. It is not difficult to ask for my id in the first place, and not accusing me for not having one before asking. It makes the place feel unwelcoming. My friends and I left shortly afterwards because it killed the vibe, and they said they will never support this place ever again. I suggest the owner to provide training to staffs for better communication and logical thinking process. It could have been a nice experience for everyone if the staff could handle the situation better in the first place. Edit: This the edit after the owner’s reply. I have been many pubs, bars or night clubs from small local to high-end, within the UK or overseas. I never had any issue with being IDed, they asked and I provided as instructed. I had great time in all the pubs, bar or nightclub I have been to. So don’t talk to me like I haven’t been in a pub before, don’t make another baseless assumption. The problem is not that I got IDed, Its that the poor communication and handling from your staffs. Being IDed is not big deal, but your staff literally pointed a finger in my face and accused me for not having one. Your staffs were being rude. Again with another accusation to me, you said I “deliberately ignored” your staff asked for my ID 3 times. I honestly do not remember your staff asked me that question and I do not hear that question. If this the the best quality of communication your bar stuff can provide, then the bar is literally on the floor. Have you taken the account that the noises in the pub or someone having hearing problem might not be able to hear the question the first few times. Addition training on communication and biases are clearly needed. But instead of improving your business and the professionalism of your staffs, you just like to shift all the blame to customers. It is true that no staff member should be disrespected by customers, when they are trying to do their job. But your staffs was being rude to me. Is it very difficult to say “Can I see you ID?” once you get my attention, instead of saying” You don’t have an ID, you need to leave.” While pointing a finger at me. Hearing such rude baseless accusation at first, of course I would feel annoyed. Do you just expect customer should take disrespect from our staffs? Can I not feel annoyed that I was treated rudely? Are you invaliding my feelings? Not trying to be rude, but don’t pop off at me when your bar staffs screwed up in communicating effectively. Just because you say you are a small friendly pub, doesn’t mean that you are actually friendly. And from your replies to all the one star reviews, it seems that you cannot handle criticism very well. Perhaps this the aspect that you can improve on, Owner. With your attitude, you are just living in your delusional “friendly” pub that you claimed to be.

It is such a shame. I used to always enjoy coming here. Used to get on and have a laugh with the staff and sing karaoke. However I came in last night which was my suggestion as I used to love this pub! with a small group of friends. We all bought a drink, my friend who is Asian was the only one asked for id, which is absolutely fine. However when she presented her Id, she was accused of having an attitude which she did not have. This literally came as a shock to us. She doesn't have an attitude. accused of swearing which she didn't do. She left the pub crying and didn't deserve this unfair treatment. We all hugged her and reassured her that not everyone is this cruel.

My friend who was Asian experienced racist staff and we will not be coming back again. My friend was asked for ID which she provided. Yet the bar staff refused to serve her and then continued to say she was swearing and being rude which did not happen as I was stood next to the whole ordeal. Myself and a few friends had already bought a drink yet we all put our drinks down and walked out the pub after witnessing what we just saw. we consoled our friend who was physically upset and we will never come back again. And I will be warning others to avoid this pub.

Lovely little bar hidden away on one of Plymouth's cobbled back roads. They have darts and pool and am yet to attend one of there Kareokes

A public house just hidden away south of Plymouth's magistrates court, can be one of the areas quietest pubs, not sure how this establishment makes money but you are guaranteed to be served rapidly, was once always on Plymouths pub crawl route, but since the building of the courts is now a bit cut off.

Very nice bar, clean and tidy and serve a selection of real ales on top of the regular kind of drinks, also has a broad selection of music on the jukebox. The staff are welcoming and friendly and I can see a revisit in the not to distant future 😁🍺😁🍺

Probably the nicest pub in Plymouth. Debs and Angel are absolute diamonds, always very welcoming and friendly. They do a great job of managing a pub but also allowing it to feel like being in your living room at home. Love the Karaoke evenings. Never have any trouble in here, ignore the negative reviews, great little pub and reasonably priced. Cheers for another great evening 👍🍻🙏

Classic old Plymouth, single room pub. Not bad, nothing to shout about. They do karaoke a few times a week, which is fun.

Nice quiet pub, I believe it gets busy on the weekends in the evening for karaoke. Not a fan of karaoke so make sure leave before it starts.

Quiet on the Saturday afternoon, but soon livened up in the evening for karaoke. Friendly staff.

Bar staff are OK, but the landlord is an absolute horror. Will not be visiting this pub ever again.

Good food and beer loverly traditional pub

Nice pub near enough to the barbican and city centre but a bit quieter so a good place to chill with an IPA beer for me and nice red wine for the wife at a cost of..... wait for it.... £6.70. Where earlier I'd been paying £11 - 12 for the same in the 'trendier' bars. They have a pool table and a dart board too, so it's a proper pub. Well recommended!

Really bad attitude towards service personnel and veterans alike, they refused to serve veterans in there 60's who were on a reunion this weekend because they were wearing polo shirts with a 'Commando dagger' on the chest. How they get away with discrimination like this is beyond me! Disgusting.

Absolute disgrace that this pub refused entry to 3 veterans who were in plymouth on a reunion as the had what the pub stated as offensive logo’s on there shirts which was a winged dagger! I have used this pub on numerous occasions with serving and ex members of the armed forces but never again will I look to hand money over the bar of this establishment.

Do not enter this establishment, they refuse to serve forces personal, a disgrace to Plymouth and to the Country.

Shocking treatment of Armed Forces Veterans this weekend, refusing to serve gentlemen in their sixties who have fought for their country proudly. Avoid this pub completely, they do not deserve custom.

I have only lived in Plymouth for just over a year and this is the first time I have seen this place open, so rude not to go in. Nice place and the prices are not to bad the staff were nice and polite, nice clean toilets. Would i go here again yes.

Ten of us went in for a few drinks and karaoke. First class pub with a good range of beers and the karaoke was first class. Three or maybe four screens to look at and follow the songs.well worth a visit

Visited my friend in Plymouth from Taunton. Went to the Swan for karaoke on Friday night. Thoroughly enjoyed the evening, very friendly, terrific atmosphere, we both had a brilliant time. I will defiantly be visiting again next time I am in Plymouth. Big shout out to the landlord for such s lush time! Thank you.

Has the feel of a local whilst still being in the centre of town. Karaoke is a favourite here so be prepared for a rousing evening. Really nice place to spend a few hours.

Stopped by for a nightcap on a quiet midweek evening. Was warmly welcomed and enjoyed my chat with what I assume was the landlord (I never asked) over a glass of rum. Will definitely stop in again next time I'm in the area. Nice clean and cosy pub.

If your in the mood to hear both old and new songs slaughtered in a friendly and fun environment, this is the place for you on a Saturday night :) i love the old fashioned sing along feeling you get from the Swan, something lacking in so many pubs these days. I will most defiantly be returning.

Furnished bedrooms; dresser/armoire, night tables Dbl beds, squooshy mattresses. Great prices nice landlord own Bar down Stairs!!
