We booked a room for an event, the room itself was fantastic, the bathroom however was a different story! My girlfriend was in the shower and was then asked if she could stop due to it leaking into the pub downstairs, she still had conditioner in her hair. After about 15 minutes I enquired with the barman (who was very pleasant and stuck in a situation that wasn't his fault) he explained that he couldn't get through to the manager and to let my girlfriend just use the shower to continue to clean her hair. He also explained the since they had no more rooms we were unable to switch. Whilst my girlfriend was in the shower the shower handle came off. Along with the issues with the shower the toilet also leaked from the base. We waited until we had to leave to see someone but upon leaving still saw nobody to resolve the issue!

Went with a mate in 2021, always said I would leave a review, finally getting round it. Tip top gaff. Owner was mega crack. Kicked a paedo out. First pub in the UK to have Madri. The rooms were clean. Close to Alton Towers, wetherspoons close by, avoid, spend your money in this proper gaff.

Really friendly landlord. Great privacy in terms of getting to your room, everything is pin locked. The rooms were tidy and a great size. The bathroom was quite old and hadn’t been looked after the best. But overall we all said we would stay again and it was very well priced.

We stayed here for one night and for the price initially we thought it was excellent. The room was clean and well furnished, although the shower room was very small. The bed was incredibly comfy! They had a small communal Kitchen but you could help yourself to breakfast food this included cereal, bread, yoghurts and fruit also included eggs but unfortunately the person who got up before us had consumed the majority of them so only my husband could have the one that was left :( Unfortunately the karaoke carried on longer than we expected (after midnight) and then we were woken by blaring music at 5 (we were above the bar!) and it sounded like it was some kind of music system malfunction:/ of was all a bit odd. Spoilt our night unfortunately.

What can you say about this place other than fantastic!! Lovely little pub, landlord is super friendly and helpful. Rooms are absolutely divine, immaculately clean, cosy comfy bed, I felt like I shouldn't have my shoes on the carpet it was that lovely, the locking system is a great idea you don't get a key you use the last 4 digits of your phone number and # to enter the building if it's closed and get through doors and into your room it's fab! There's a communal kitchen with bread, cereals, pastries, eggs, yoghurt, butter, toaster, kettle, tea, coffee, milk (tea and coffee and kettle also provided in room). The tv has Netflix and amazon and you tube, you can take drinks from pub up to your room, there's some takeaways on the same road and an sainsbury and lidl. It's absolutely ideal.

Stayed here for a week. The landlord was lovely, very informative. The location was great easy to get to Staffordshire University. The rooms were tidy spacious and safe. There is free car parking next to the pub. My only issue was on one night there was music until 1130 at night but it's a pub and otherwise it was fine.

I stayed here with my six year old daughter for a couple of nights whilst we went to Waterworld which is nearby. Easy to find, reasonably easy parking on nearby streets for free. Check in was simple, in the bar area of the pub which was open. The locals were immediately very friendly and said hello to us. We had a tour of the upstairs of the pub where the rooms are located. Very simple and cleverly thought out entry system using part of your phone number to enter through all the doors including your bedroom. Communal kitchen was a nice touch; my girl had dippy egg and soldiers for breakfast which she really enjoyed, and was able to have a snack of pain au chocolate and a yogurt during the day. I also was able to pop her jumper on a quick wash in the machine as it got dirty the previous evening which was really handy. The bed was extremely comfortable with good quality, decent pillows and duvet which gave it a luxurious feel. The TV had an Amazon Fire Stick so we were able to watch Netflix and Disney+ which was great! The shower was good, and the place was really clean. The pub doesn't do food, but we were able to order pizza and we took it back to the room. The best bit by far was the amazingly friendly locals. My daughter is a chatty little thing and she was immediately taken by Barry and Edna who were enjoying a quiet afternoon drink soon disrupted by us - but they welcomed her with open arms (literally!) and we had the most fabulous conversation with them for a couple of hours, and my daughter was thrilled when Barry bought her a packet of crisps. Added to that, Mick (another regular) emptied his pocket of small change and absolutely made her day by giving her some 'pocket money". (She bought a fridge magnet with the money to remind her of her little holiday, and she also re-payed the kindness by "tipping" our waiter at lunch the following day 55p, completely unprompted) Our trip away was completely made for us by the hospitality of complete strangers, who really looked after us and we're genuinely so kind and friendly. Massive thanks to the team at The Sutherland Arms - we'll definitely be back if we return to the area.

Great location with lots of shops etc around (sainsburys and lidls literally across the road), The staff are wonderful, the rooms are wonderfully refurbed with a true touch of "Stoke" to them, although located above a bar it was quiet enough by 10pm, The kitchen they've put together is just wonderful it makes you feel like it's home from home, as a frequent traveller through Stoke throughout the year I can confirm that it's on par with some high class properties for rent on air bnb etc, it's cheap enough too, So overall I'd give these guys 10/10 for their efforts of doing their thing here, Sabastian.

We stayed here on our back from a roudntrip in Wales, as we wanted to take the train from Stoke-on-Trent to London. The location was mostly convenient but I was actually pleasantly surprised by this establishment. There is no parking available, so you have to park in the surrounding streets, which are quite busy, so you have to be lucky. We received a warm welcome and a tour upon arriving, also some information about where to get the best food in the area. The room was small but clean and communal kitchen came worked really well.

I could not fault this hotel in the slightest. Right from the beginning Hayley & Dave were lovely and welcoming, our room was spacious and clean, we were given biscuits, flasks and hot chocolates. To get upstairs to the room is a key code which is great as it saves you carrying about keys/cards! Ideal location as there was takeaways a minute away on foot, a whetherspoons at the top of the road and Petrol stations about a minute or two away too! On street parking at the side of the hotel next to the back door too. Hayley & Dave were so friendly and went the extra mile, calling us taxis and writing down numbers to make sure we could get back, recommending places as well as giving directions and being there for any questions we had. Probably the best place I have stayed at in a really long time, such a family friendly environment. There is a shared kitchen with an iron and a washer/dryer too, and items stocked in the kitchen constantly for breakfast. We loved our stay and will definitely be back if we are down to Stoke again! If you’re staying for Alton towers, this hotel is only a half an hour drive away :)

Wow where do I begin........ Hayley and her partner was an absolute pleasure, her customer service was outstanding. They could not do enough for you. We booked the room for a trip to Alton Towers for my nephews birthday. We wasn’t expecting much as it was the cheapest room around, however I cannot emphasis enough what a high standard this room was, from the decor to facilities and cleanliness this room is worth double the amount we paid to stay! The personal touches that were put in to our stay such as a birthday card on the side for my nephews 8th birthday is just something that was so unexpected and made his day even better. Such a wonderful gesture and shows how much they care about the people choosing to stay in their rooms and the service.I will most certainly be staying here again and will highly recommended The Surtherland Arms in the future. Thanks for a wonderful stay, 5 star all around!! Tuesday night is curry and a pint night. Now I have tried these elsewhere and they can vary. But at the "Suth" it is very good. The bar itself has a good variety of beers including from the excellent local Lymestone brewery. The food itself is chosen and delivered hot from the neighbouring Indian restaurant and served on Royal Stafford plates. There is a proper coal fire, decent beer and great food - all for £6.00. What value! If you assume you are paying £2.50 a pint then £3.50 for curry, rice and [what I did not expect] 4 huge popadoms is not to be missed. Only available between 6-9pm Tuesdays. I shall be back

The restaurant was in a really nice area. I came here with my family and we all really enjoyed our food. The roast dinners were especially nice. I love the fact that this restaurant was dog friendly and the decorations are stunning. Very warm feeling. However, the waiting times were a bit too long. It took forty minutes for our main meal to arrive and twenty for desserts. I appreciate the time of year but I think it is just something to improve on because the rest of our experience was brilliant. Definitely recommend and will be coming back.

My wife and I had a brilliant night last night at the club, it was a Soul and Motown themed night, the DJ played great music and the place was sold out, we pre booked the food, which was simple but absolutely delicious, one of the best sirloin steaks I’ve had in a long time anywhere I think the club itself has been on a knife edge for a few years now but I think these themed nights will be it’s saviour and a priority is marketing and selling to younger generations, if I was to hazard a guess last nights average age would be 60 - 70 and we won’t live forever !
