The Sun in Lambeth

A very disappointing experience. I would strongly advise NOT going here for a Sunday roast. - We had to wait 45 for our order to be taken. - the Diet Coke tasted of nothing, how do you get Coke wrong? - The food was average at best. The Roast potato's were probably the worst I’ve ever had, tasteless and rubbery. The beef was badly over cooked and very chewy. Not satisfied at with my experience.

It pains me to say this but it’s not worth it. Myself and my friend love this place for a drink but we tried the roast and we won’t be eating there again. Food was cold, had to be sent back and the meat on the roast was pretty much inedible. You can get a much better roast elsewhere in Clapham.

No host to greet bookings … had to wait at bar … trying to grab someone’s attention… asked if there was tables outside … then was told you booked inside so that’s what’s available… completely understand but at least let me know or look for me … no instructions on how to place order … only thing on table is a drinks menu … I booked for a roast … found scan QR on table and only things left on menu were chicken and nut roast … I had my heart set on beef … would of been nice of a heads up and no cauliflower cheese … as waiter approached with beer he says there’s no roast today I don’t know why it’s on the app … well I’ve paid for a roast so you can understand my frustration… he said I can swap it out … what with I asked as I don’t have any menu to say what actually is available today … it’s an absolute joke I traveled an hour to get here with awful service and now not what I booked for … AVOID at all costs !!!!

We hosted a party in the private room on a Saturday night and the team were absolutely fantastic from helping us organise it, letting us see the venue beforehand, preordering drinks and food etc through to the actual night. A special thank you to the team, Lucy, Michaela and especially Artie, who all made it the best night for all our guests and were absolutely fantastic! We would definitely recommend hosting your event at The Sun, absolutely no complaints or issues and it all went off without a hitch.

Have always heard good things about this pub and wanted to like it. The staff are friendly and were really helpful on a busy afternoon, but for this type of pub the wine list is really shocking. We tried three bottles and I think this has to be the pub with the worst wine list I’ve seen so far in London which is unfortunate.

Shambles. Booked a table for 9 a month in advance for dinner, and were given a table for 4. When we asked for a larger table, we got moved to a big table but a new group kicked us off as they had that booking. We tried to go back to our table of 4, but that had been taken. Whilst we were waiting at the bar for the staff to sort this mess out, food started to arrive so my group were eating their starters on the side of the bar. Some of the staff were receptive and apologetic, others seemed irritated that we were displeased. Eventually given a 6 seater table but were made to vacate that table after 1 hour to another group. Good bar for small group for drinks but overall extremely disappointed in the waiting service and disorganisation. We were compensated with a round of free drinks, which was appreciated. Would return for causal drinks but wouldn’t bother booking or going for dinner

My friends and I went to the Sun to catch up after lockdown, and our server Sophie made our night! She has such a fun and bubbly personality and felt like one of our friends. Couldn’t recommend this pub and Sophie enough!!

Katie is the best! We come here all the time and she always sorts us out a table, even when it’s busy. Always 5 star service and she’s the reason we come back

The service from katie was amazing! We didn’t book a table but she facilitated us with a table here. The drive was great and the food was amazing. We had the nachos and chips. We came here on Sunday bank holiday - lovely outdoor heated area with cover in case of rain. I had the nourish bowl and it was delicious - service was amazing and lovely staff.

The roast was extremely disappointing would compare it to a school dinner. Overpriced only get 3 potatoes that have obviously not been roasted, the nut roast did not contain any nuts but some sort of vegetable mush.

I come here regularly and can never fault Katie and Ken’s service, especially when they’re particularly busy they always find time to provide exceptional service !!

Visited this spot last weekend in September and had some lovely "creamers" as our server Ken called them when bringing us our pints of Guinness which were perfect! Great atmosphere, great service good time all round for a few pints.

Lunch on 2 March. Never been before. When ordering we were told there had been a problem with the ovens but they had just started working. We expected there might be a delay but ordered anyway. The wait was actually very long. But the food when it came was very good, and a nice old pub. But the reason we'll certainly return is the really excellent, solicitous and very generous attitude of the staff in looking after us during the wait. It made all the difference. The staff is to be congratulated.

Although it was a Saturday and it was quite busy I was served quickly by friendly members of staff.The Sun is a nice and cosy pub where to have a drink or a quick meal. A couple of vegan options available. Would love to see vegan Nachos back on the menu.

We had a party at lunch time to celebrate my husband's 80th birthday. About 45 people were present. The staff were very helpful in making arrangements for the party, set up our computer for a slide show, helped with messages on their boards. The room for hire is on the first floor and was an excellent venue, with some tables and chairs for those who wanted to sit. The food was very good. We had our own bar upstairs, with a wider choice of beers available downstairs.I should note that the regular clientele for this pub is much younger!

Our mate had just had a baby so we were out celebrating having a roast. And what a perfect match the two were!Will be coming here again and again and again. All seven of us agreed it’s our new local even though none of us live in Clapham!Staff great, food brilliant and atmosphere amazing.

How the mighty has fallen ! We had Sunday lunch here 3 years ago and it was brilliant, we had Sunday roast here yesterday and wow what a come down.The food service was just awful and the actual food wasn't that much better ! When the main courses arrived only 2 of 8 people had cutlery and the table was still full of the starters, after waiting 5 minutes for a knife and fork I went and hunted them down myself. The waitress clearly had no interest in customer service or the business she represents (this is why the US is so good, they have to work to earn!).. The food was below par and barley warm - All in all it was a disaster meal - The manager did offer 20% off the bill but he actually should have wrote the whole thing off as this wrote off our Sunday !I am. balanced and have to say the bar staff worked really hard and seemed embarrassed ..

Great time for my sisters birthday, we dropped stuff down the night before and they decorated the tables! Was so lovely. Great service and great atmosphere!

I’ve been coming here for years. Last year it had a refurb and looks better than ever. Irish legend Billy Keane plays on a Thursday which is always a good time. Foods good and well priced and the staff are friendly.

We booked the large upstairs room for our engagement party for friends and family. The booking process was straightforward and Sam and his team helped us along the way with ordering canapes, choosing drinks etc.. The staff who looked after us on the night, James and Sarah, were wonderful and couldn't do enough for us - they definitely helped make the party such a success.

Lovely restaurant with a fab atmosphere, definitely going to be coming here again! My first experience at the pub was made 10x better with amazing service from a young girl, I think her name was Ellise, she was super chatty and friendly, and super polite every time she collected our glasses. Got called "a poof" by the door staff on saturday. Then claiming they didn't allow single men (is it really back to that 80s cliche couples only)

I really enjoyed the atmosphere. And the staff were super fun and recommended new cocktails, which myself and my girlfriend loved. Guy at the bar was very attentive and gave us a voucher for a discount on food which we will be back to use as we always eat here anyway!

I had a great Thursday night in the Sun with a few friends for a birthday. There was live music which created a brilliant atmosphere, it was a really nice crowd and everyone was enjoying themselves. The bar staff were great, a pet peeve of mine is bar staff seeming to take their time when the bar is busy but they were all on their a-game making sure everyone was served as quickly as possible. Friday at work was a little painful but it was worth it!!

Visited this pub for a bit of dinner and drinks with friends. Can’t fault it, sat at a lovely table around the back, quick service from friendly staff behind the bar. We ordered some food and I would highly recommend the bread starter, along with the fish and chips, really delicious with generous portions! Friendly and relaxing atmosphere. I came here on a wet Sunday after a walk with the dog with 3 friends. We were welcomed kindly by a server on the floor.

Had a brilliant trip here with my wife, such an amazing atmosphere here and great music. Bar staff were super chatty and so much fun, we ended up sending far more time there than had anticipated but a quality night. Lovely guy behind the bar with a ginger beard who was a lot of help when ordering food about his favourite food which we ended up ordering bangers and mash, Loved it.

I visited this cute looking pub when I was visiting some girlfriends in London, and for the most part it was nice. The food was good, and the drinks were mostly ok. It wasn’t until a couple of days ago that we were talking about the trip and realised that one bartender had made us feel super uncomfortable! He was loud, wouldn’t serve my friend an Aperol Spritz and then kept on pushing us to buy bigger drinks! Then when we tried ordering from someone else he would come and keep trying to hit on us and made our entire group super uncomfortable to the point that we left to go to a new bar. The whole thing ruined our impression of The Sun.

Just moved to Clapham and this pub is my go to after finishing work on a Friday. Large spacious beer garden, really friendly staff and great music. it’s FAB :)

New here and decided to come with a bunch of mates. Had a brilliant night, ended up being quite cheap with the £3 bottle of the week deal. And free live music from the acoustic Billy Keane was so much fun. Such a good atmosphere. Will deffo be back

Good drinks selection, reasonably priced and great staff. I came for a Sunday roast with my family and the food was very lovely.

Myself and a few girlfriends met up in Old Town for a few drinks and were greeted by lovely young man at the bar. He introduced us to a new cocktail he recommended, winter rum and we loved it. Good bar knowledge, friendly and hopefully single ha. But seriously, we would recommend The Sun to anybody now. All the staff were friendly, it maybe is a bit more expensive than its last cal rivals but worth it in our opinion. Also they have a pub quiz this sometime this week

Having recently moved to Clapham me and my girlfriend decide to try this pub we went in for a drink on a Friday very nice vibes We was served by a a guy with a beard and gingerish hair he started off very nice till I realised he was actually flirting with my girlfriend I asked for a single vodka and he turn round and said “only boring People drink singles”I felt very embarrassed in front of my girlfriend she asked for a small house white and apparently you only do large you don’t sell small this was his word but I’m sure it’s an illegal enquirement to sell small and medium wine in a licence Premises this caused us to just drink our drinks and go we was looking for a pub to become our local but after this experience I don’t think it will be this pub

We had high hopes for this place as we had heard the food was good. We visited on a Sunday early evening and ordered roast beef. The meal came out under 5 minutes after we ordered. The food was cold, the potatoes were freezing cold in the centre. We had the feeling that the food may be pre plated and then microwaved. I would not order anything here that is likely to be reheated. Fish and chips or something that is likely to be warm. We were surprised when nobody came over to check we were happy with the food and when the table was cleared the staff didn’t ask if it was ok or offer an opportunity for feedback. A disappointing meal in a pub that has a lot of potential!

Visited last night and was subject to blatant and irritating up selling by the barman. Never experienced this before, is this legal? Doesn't sit well with me.

Came on a Sunday for the roast, great portion sizes, lots of choice on tap and great staff. Would definitely recommend!

I have been here a few times now and am always happy. Went for a roast on Sunday which was lovely (although the menu was a lot smaller compared to the one on their website). Tasted good and came out in good time. Staff are always friendly. Good selection of drinks. I agree with a few other reviews that the toilets are never really in a decent state. Would definitely visit again and again!

Ordered the Chicken Katsu Burger, and it was disgusting. I didn't complain because it was cooked, just looked/tasted horrendous.

So I came here for my birthday with friends and it was fantastic!! The food was really excellent and the staff could not do enough to help us - service was brilliant!! It’s a great space and the music was brilliant too. Highly, highly recommended!!

Nice place but HORREDOUS toilets! Staff were really rude when I told them that there was no toilet paper to use, damp toilet paper all over the floor and toilet seats falling off! Told me what do they want them to do about it.

Two of us had the vegetarian lasagna and I had the bangers and mash for dinner tonight, washed down with two beers each. Very nice and the pub had a nice atmosphere on this Tuesday evening. A nice pub along The Pavement.

Pre-booked reheated garbage. Made airline food seem appetising. Roast potatoes (I counted 2) black on one side and raw on the other. Slimy boiled chicken, raw parsnips. Bread sauce had a skin on, truly appalling and lacking any culinary thought or talent.

I was here this weekend and where to start, there were 2-3 people working at the bar with 4 deep people queueing for drinks. It took around 40 minutes to get a drink which for me ruins anyone’s night. I don’t understand why places like this don’t just pay for some extra staff. Also the toilets were the worst I have seen. The men’s toilets were flooded and disgusting. My girlfriend also mentioned the women’s toilets to be unbearable and unusable. Surely someone’s should check these more often ? Also service to remove glasses from the tables was shocking.

Enjoyed a visit to The Sun with friends for sunday lunch. It's situated in a great spot in Clapham Old Town, easily accessed by bus and tube, offering a nice selection of ales. All the food coming out of the kitchen looked good. Our choices certainly didn't disappoint on flavour.

It’s a shame to be writing this review as the food was all great, but the experience was ruined by disorganised staff. We had a booking for 3pm on a Sunday but when we arrived we were told that someone was at our table, so we weren’t actually seated until 3:20. We were then informed that all of the roasts were sold out, except for 1 lamb. This was quite disappointing as we booked the meal strictly for the roast, but we decided to stay and take the single lamb roast. As we were waiting for our meal, a member of staff came by to say that they actually only had one beef roast, not lamb. The food then came out at different times, with one of the meals being completely forgotten about. They also ended up bringing out two roast dinners, one beef and one lamb, but from the very beginning we were told that there was only one left?! At the end of the day, all of the food was good, but the experience was ruined by disorganised, uninformed staff members. Such a shame!!

Este es un pub local con un amplio jardín. Lista de cócteles de verano - decente, especialmente si no eres un bebedor de cerveza! Tuve la ensalada César, muy sabroso y generosas porciones. Mi amigo tenía la cerveza sandwich goujons maltratada cod, con salsa tartar y patatas fritas - altamente recomendado. Ve por el,Aperol Vermús.

Vino para una cena de cumpleaños en un sábado. El ambiente no era estupenda - apenas había música y demasiado lleno.

Decidimos venir a El Sol para un asado de domingo con amigos. Esperamos 1 hora y 15 minutos para la primera comida que llegara. Pedimos al camarero si era carne o cordero en la placa a la que él no sabía, seguido por una porción de patatas fritas que no la orden, así que envió la comida de vuelta. Nos dieron una disculpa por el servicio lento y el embrollo de nuestra comida. A unos 15 minutos más tarde la comida sí, pero la mía estaba un poco fría, sin embargo, la comida no estaba mal, después de tanto tiempo esperando! Y el camarero todavía no sabía qué plato era carne o cordero, así que tuvimos que hacer una prueba para ser exacto! Porque en este punto sólo 3 personas tenían su comida ofrecían bebidas gratis para las 3 personas dejaron esperando - que sólo estaban esperando aproximadamente 2 / 3 minutos para su comida. Me pareció un poco extraño que no ofrecen la mesa completa para una ronda gratis de bebidas mientras tuvimos que esperar 1. 5 horas! Me gustaría volver para las bebidas ya que es un pub con una gran zona exterior. . . Pero el mal servicio y la falta de comunicación me ha disuadido de ordenar comida en el futuro.

Fuimos a unos 5 ó 6 veces durante nuestra estancia en Clapham. Buena cerveza fría con una sonrisa amable del personal. Disfrutamos el pescado y las patatas fritas, un par de veces y disfrutamos muchísimo.

Entramos en el sol y para mi sorpresa tenía una gran variedad de cervezas de artesanías. Barman recomienda un diminuto rebeldes y estaba delicioso. En verdad un gran pub. Fantástico jardín de cerveza. La comida parecía bueno también. Como mi amigo tenía una hamburguesa.

Visitamos para principios de cena con mi hijo. Él tenía un filete duro y yo tenía algo vaga vegetariano que estaba cerca de comestible. Muy decepcionante y no es barato, para un pub. No será volver

I could be seen as a regular at The Sun and usually frequent a couple of times a week due to it's close proximity to home but also due to the incredible staff that work there.Dog and family friendly and a nice ilk of local residents who frequently frequent the place.

I came here for Sunday lunch, waited 40 minutes before getting a starter!! Staff are nice, service is EXTREMELY SLOW!! I would not recommend. Menu was short and VERY expensive for what is offered! DO NOT COME HERE!! GO ANYWHERE ELSE!

We came for Sunday lunch, which we were told was on all day. Our table was booked for 16.30, but they hadn't reserved it. When we eventually got seated we gave our order, but 15 minutes later the waiter came and told us the kitchen had stopped serving roasts. Disappointed, we ordered off the main menu, only for the table behind us to order and receive a roast! Our food then took ages to come, no one asked us how our meal was and I had to ask 3 times for water. Really disappointed but don't want to write the place off so have booked to try it again.

Have been a few times, both for evenings drinks as well as weekend lunches - always had a lovely time! Warm, welcoming, with a great decor and friendly staff. However, despite the menu sounding quite promising, the food was a little disappointing... dull and overcooked meat with utterly boring salad and not much veg to come with... BUT, definitely a good spot for a nice glass of wine or beer in a friendly crowd!

Any pub that voluntarily asks if they can get me some more gravy, just as I'm starting to tuck into my Sunday roast, is going to make me happy - especially when it's packed with so much flavour. Gravy is THE crucial ingredient of any roast for me. If it's too watery or there isn't enough of it then I am left disappointment. Luckily, the Sun is somewhere that takes Sunday roasts extremely seriously. I chose the sirloin of beef (£14.25) and was impressed with the decent sized portion of tasty meat, cooked medium-rare, just how I like it. The crispy roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and vegetables - carrots, greens and broccoli - were all excellent. I also shared a portion of cauliflower cheese (£3.25) with a friend, which was tasty but my only minor criticism is that it could have been a little more cheesy. This was my first visit to Clapham Old Town and with such a tasty Sunday roast on offer at The Sun, it won't be long till I'm back.

We came here for a pre-Christmas boozy lunch and as the title suggests, thought the food was great but the service, questionable.Let's start with the good; the food. We got a trio of chicken lollipops, Korean ribs and crispy squid to share and they were all deliciously moorish. The chicken lollipops well cooked and not drowned in a BBQ sauce but coated just enough that it didn't kill the chicken, the ribs were super tender and falling off the bone. The squid well cooked with a lovely crisp on it and nice chilli glaze.For my mains, I had fish and chips. On the table was also roast beef, chicken, chicken pot pie and a burger. My fish and chips was excellent. It was really well battered with it being a thin layer and not OTT and greasy. Served wth triple cooked chips. The roasts looked excellent too. I also had a chocolate brownie which was awesome - warm and moist with a lovely hazelnut ice cream. All washed down with a great range of beers and ales. I have to admit the food was better than I was expecting (no offence intended however!).What let it down was the service. Or lack of. It wasn't really table service despite being 6 of us which isn't a huge deal but it's a bit odd when you're having a 'proper' lunch but having to go to the bar every 5 minutes to order drinks as well as your food. Most of the communication from the staff was based on when we were leaving. I get that it's a busy time of the year but when you're tucking into your starters and you're being asked if you'd be leaving by X time that's odd. And when we said sure so you can get another table in, immediately they stick a new reserved sign on the table? Hardly welcoming is it?! I put 3 stars on this review based on that. The food was excellent I will stress again but the service needs looking at.
