I have been here a few times and the interior is nice with a decent menu. The fish has always been cooked nicely when j went but the chips are a huge let down. Last 2 times they weren't quite cooked through, which is galling when they're touted as "twice cooked" chips. Must take skill to still not cool them properly after 2 goes!

Came here for a quick takeaway on a Sunday evening and there was only 2 tables taken in there. Quite expensive for a takeaway and took about 20 minutes for it to be made. Got home and found the cod tasteless and dry. The chips were awful, not at all what you expect from a chippy. Tasted like cardboard. Will be making sure to avoid this place like the plague.

The first two times I went to K&M in Clapham i couldn't wait to return. I don't live nearby so it was always a bit of a treat. Well tonight we "treated" visiting family from overseas to our third visit. Wow. What has happened?!? The food was by far the worst meal I've had in years, and possibly the worst fish and chips I've ever had. The fish was so dry and tasteless, I had to close my eyes and eat to just get through a few mouthfuls. And The chips, well they were left on all of our plates at the end. They tasted like yesterday's chips heated up, left to go cold, and then heated up again. I don't even know how you go about making chips taste that bad. It was beyond a disappointing experience and certainly not one I ever intend to repeat again.

I have had many fish & chip suppers in my time and this is up there with the absolute worst. My fish was pretty much inedible. A thin, crispy, dry, overcooked poor excuse piece of haddock (deep fried cardboard), the chips were not 'chipshop chips', they were not handcut, think McCains oven chips. The calamari was small in portion and over seasoned. The atmosphere was dreadful. Perhaps we chose a bad day to try this 'reputable' fish and chip shop. One member of staff was extremely unprofessional and too busy hanging out with her friends to actually address the issue at hand. The other server was more in tune and friendly and removed the fish from the bill (I had to ask). Poor customer service overall. Should have checked the Trip Advisor reviews before even giving this place a chance. Get yourself to a proper chippy!

I was very disappointed with our takeaway last night -- soggy fish, tough and undercooked chips, limp and underdressed salad, dry mushy peas, congealed tartare sauce... The scampi might have been OK but i didn't get any because there were only about half a dozen in the pot. What a shame -- this used to be such a good place, but I won't be going back any time soon. Portions are still huge though.

Having read some indifferent reviews, and as someone who picks up a takeaway supper every month or so, I am taking the time to advise that in my opinion little appears to have changed here apart from maybe some of the serving staff. This is a restaurant where takeaways are also cooked freshly "to order" and it is great to have a choice of battered, grilled or matzo meal for your fish - the latter is a light breadcrumb style finish so not as filling as batter and gets a big recommendation. Our fish was ample in size (and clearly fresh) and the chips well cooked. With a couple of sides a takeaway supper is great value at a touch over £10 a head.

Used to visit KM quite frequently when they opened, which was a few years ago, since then the quality of the fresh fish, crispy batter and chips have changed drastically. Used to be a buzzy chippy place where you could let go the nostalgia and enjoy some old fashioned fish n chips. Staff changes regularly which can't be a good sign. Nowadays there's too much oil and batter and chips are soggy, and we ate at the restaurant, not take away. My kid loves it though, when we complaint about the oil dripping battered cod it was swapped immediately for a grilled "healthy" option. Chips were not very good, seemed frozen. Calamari was somewhat bland, with some kind of thai spice to it, very British nowadays I supposed. Ultimately what led me to write in here was the loud electronic music coming from the kitchen, as well as people having a fight? At least some shouting. (Kitchen it's at the far end of the venue and we were sitting next to the door). Wouldn't pay those prices for food cooked by non professional chefs, still the concept doesn't completely fail to deliver, as the fish seems still to be fresh, not your average pre frozen take away. Hope they rain check the attitude though.

We love Kerbisher & Malt. Its just own the road from us, and is a versatile little place for a quick bite if you don't fancy cooking or if you want a nice meal with little fuss. The menu is simple - fish & chips - but the variety is broad as you can select from about 5 types of fish, and select whether you prefer it battered, grilled or mazo. Portions are generous, service is friendly and unfussy. (And they do delivery through Deliveroo which is an equally good option!)Refreshingly down to earth for a street of stuffy eats.

Every order appears to be cooked on the bespoke basis, therefore anything up to a 20 minute wait can be expected. The resultant fish and chips are relatively average; soggy batter around the fish and rather wizened looking chips. The service can be quite off hand and dismissive. To be honest, if this brand was relocated to the north of England, it would not last more than a couple of months.

Awful place, rude staff, hardly ever open. The staff are so unfriendly and act as if you are disturbing them when you go in there to get food. When it opened it was ok but the portions have now been reduced as they said they can't afford to give such big portions and the quality of food has gone down. We came in for lunch and just thought it was an off day but have since been back and it is no better. The last time we went we were told that they were closing in half an hour and even if we had food we would have to leave in that time. So rude.

Dining in had a nice atmosphere, but the service was unenthusiastic food was pretty much flavourless. I had battered plaice, chips and a side of coleslaw. Batter tasted like it hadn't been seasoned at all, chips were underwhelming and the coleslaw (coming from a coleslaw nut!) was disappointing. Even the vinegar was watered down so much that I had to soak everything to get the slightest taste! Although the place looks charming, the food really doesn't back it up.

We live locally to the Kerbisher and Malt, fish and chip restaurant in Abbeville Village, SW4 9NF.Having house guests for the week following, we decided to try this restaurant to see how they fared with the other established, good quality restaurants, in the village. Being a Saturday, we thought it wise to reserve a table so took a short stroll to the restaurant. On entering there is a small corridor and facing you a ‘Kiosk’ kind or arrangement: all a little dark and gloomy. The young guy who was manning the kiosk greeted us and we asked if we could reserve a table for this evening (this was around 18.00) for 20.00. He looked very bemused at our request and went to find a colleague. A young lady arrived and we again asked whether we could reserve a table for 20.00. She said ‘well you can if you want to’ implying that this was an unusual request and not necessary. However, we persevered and asked if we could see the tables. We entered the restaurant, which followed the same dull theme from the corridor. There were 4/5 fixed wooden tables each with bench seating for 4 people. We chose table 1, which was nearest the door and had at least some light coming from the front windows. The young lady returned with a notebook in which she wrote my name, time reserved and number of guests, I offered my mobile number but told this was not necessary. At 19.55, we arrived at the restaurant to be greeted by presumably, the evening shift. The first thing we noticed was that the table we had reserved was occupied. I spoke to one of the staff and said that we had earlier reserved this table. She disappeared and a slight blond girl came to see us. I again explained that we had reserved this table. Unfortunately, she became immediately defensive, no apology, and repeatedly saying ‘they are eating too slowly... what I can do?’ She then offered us an alternative table that was tucked away in the dark recess under the stairs. Incidentally, all the remaining fixed tables were empty but with ‘Reserved’ notices.I asked why, when giving our table to another party, did they not explain that it was only available to 20.00. However, this was a complete waste of time as she now kept repeating ‘I am only doing my job’ which had no relevance to the situation. So we left, as it was apparent that trying to reason with this staff member was a waste of time and effort. The decor of the restaurant is sadly unimaginative. It is not modern, cutting edge, retro or boho, it is just dark and uninviting.Unfortunately, we are unable to comment on the quality of the food at this establishment but experiencing the unprofessional front of house employees, I expect we had a lucky escape. There are many good quality and welcoming restaurants in the area so we went back to our trusted favourites. So although we were very angry at the incompetence of the staff at Kerbisher and Malt, and this did put a ‘dampener’ on our evening, we were able to salvage this with some wonderful food and service at another of the many good local restaurants. If anyone at K&M reads of our experience please don’t ask us to return; this will never happen.

Just ordered delivery from here and have to say it wasn't very good. The fish was fine and the battered sausage was ok but with a thick, chewy skin which I personally don't enjoy. Was a long time I didn't have fish and chips, nearly two years. I don't like when I see to much oil on it. This fish and chips was just perfect cooked, not oily, nice portion, nice mush pea and nice scampi. Maybe reading this review you are asking to yourself why I gave just three point and no five. The answer is easy: mush peas where a bit salty, the crusty on the cod was not compact on it and was like eating fish and the crust separately. Was also difficult eat in a small plate all that staff. The last thing is about tartare sauce, was like mayo with just chopped gherkins on it. That are the reason why they have 3 point.

What a wonderful gem, in Abbeville Road, a charming fish and chipper. We started with the fabulously fresh calamares in a deep bowl. These were delicious and took me back to Malaga this summer with Michael Fitzalan who wrote the best seller Remember the Fifth of November. We ordered a carafe of chenin blanc, which was the ideal accompaniment to battered fish, my wife likes sauvignon with her fish, I like chardonnay, she and I adore chenin blanc. Barnaby had the sausage in batter, which was delicious, spicy and meaty, ideal for anyone who wants meat. Suzi had police which was fresh and melted in the mouth, After the calamares, I only had room for a fish finger sandwich, which was divine, real doughy, white bread like you used to get and battered fish that tasted like the epitome of the fish finger. Salt, vinegar and ketchup were on the table. This proved an inexpensive meal in a faux Edwardian atmosphere complete with distressed tables and banquet sofas, a little like a down at heal Simpson's or an upmarket pie and mash shop from East London circa 1970. We loved it. The booths and laid back atmosphere took me back to the Up all Night in Fulham Road in the Eighties or a more coast version of Ed's Diner in the Nineties. If Tooting is local, this is a great local fish and chip shop. The place in unpretentious, the food is fresh and delicious, there is a great range of different dishes, the bill is reasonable and the Polish staff are charming. What more do you need?

However other times when they have been busy service is poor. So poor that we walked out, though we have been back since.(After waiting a long time for a table they seated 5 of us in a really tight booth table, while their other customers used chairs to hang their coats and bags, when we asked to be moved they said it was the only option and walked off).I recommend going on a day when they are not too busy, you'll get better service and enjoy the meal more.

Despite the five star review, the first thing I'll say is that this isn't one of the finest dining establishments in London. However, this is one of the best places to get Fish and Chips in London, and I'm reviewing on that basis. If you go to any Fish and Chip shop in central London, you're looking at £5-8 for a piece of fish and £2-4 for a portion of chips. Kerbisher and Malt is smack-bang in the middle of that range, the portions are a good size, but the quality is next-level. A plus side, they also offer sustainable fish such as Coley and Pollock, if you're that way inclined. Haddock was lovely, although the cod had a much better flavour. Batter wasn't too greasy and nothing gave the impression that it'd been sat under a heater for ten years (a la normal chippy). The chips are great if you like crunch and the portion is huge. One portion of chips will easily serve two. Lastly we also ordered the calamari (although we didn't need it) and it was some of the best I've ever had. Fresh, light batter, good quality. They also take the nice step of actually cooking and serving the tentacles (aka the good stuff). All in all, great fish and chips, although some of the other options on the menu (calamari, whitebait, scampi) are worth exploring too. We will definitely return. Note - If you have a Tastecard, you currently get 50% off food on your bill. I can't name many places where you can have a great meal for two in London, leave full and get change for £15.

Went here last night to introduce a friend to her very first meal at a fish and chips restaurant! I had chosen it from all the reviews, however I was slightly disappointed. The place itself looks good - contemporary detailing inside, with comfortable seating and a relaxed atmosphere. It's slap bang in the middle of Abbeville Road and so is well situated. The staff are friendly and fairly efficient. Also the pricing is good value and the menu is varied. They have a very good range of bottled beers, including some excellent London Mean Time Ale.We ordered the Cod and Chips, with some mushy pees and lemon mayonnaise on the side and a starter of Whitebait. The Whitebait was lovely and had a tasty spicy coating to it. The mushy pees were also good and my dining companion knows her mushy pees! However what was meant to be the star of the show - the cod and chips - was a bit of a letdown. The Cod was battered, but the batter wasn't very crunchy and the meat was flaky but way too soft and too moist. Also the portion size was rather meagre. The chips were also rather bland, although the portion size was much better. So considering they have everything else just right, it's disappointing that they seem to have taken their eye off the main attraction of coming to this chain - the fish and chips themselves! The gushing reviews I feel overstate the quality here, or maybe we just came on a slightly off night. Either way, I am not rushing back here and find it hard to recommend this place, considering that London has some truly excellent other fish and chips venues.

We went to the K&M shop on Abbeville road for a quick bite on Sunday night, took ages to be seated, we were then seated at an uncleaned table, which the waitress gave a quick wipe but was still heavily stained and sticky with salt and ketchup. We ordered anyway despite the poor first impressions. The waitress then told us they were out of three of the items we ordered. She also told us there was no way to grill the fish, as it was all already battered or breadcrumbed...not a great start for my gluten intolerant husband. We promptly asked them to cancel the order and left. It is a shame as we had a nice meal there when they first opened but I was incredibly disappointed with the poor service, lack of communication, and the smell! Stale chip oil is not enticing.

Locale pulito e buon servizio.Il merluzzo in pastella e le chips vengono fritte al momento. Molto fresco il pesce e sfiziosissima l'insalatina mista. In cinque abbiamo pagato 10£ a testa. Credo che sarà metà d'obbligo per ogni mia prossima visita in UK.

I've eaten at the original restaurant in brook green several times before and I have always been impressed! And I'm glad to say that expansion plans haven't affected the quality of what they serve which is good honest fresh quality fish! Ignore the poor reviews and check it out, the curry sauce is to die for!

Normally when you have bad fish and chips you don't tend to mind as, let's be honest it's only fish and chips and probably didn't cost much. Unfortunately I recently tried this place in my local village and long story short it was terrible and expensive. I would suggest cutting down on all the unnecessary posh packaging, go back to newspaper and give the consumer a great British Classic at a great British price. If I wanted a pretentious meal I wouldn't be having fish and chips to take away!

Been from Yorkshire I am used to some great Fish and Chip shops and wanted to find some in London. Went to Kerbisher and Malt with my brother and we were both impressed with the light crispy batter and tasty fish. Thought portions were a little small and absence of gravy wasn't great.Overall a nice dinner and London lager was lovely - would recommend but still looking for Whitby quality fish and chips.

A friend and I had talking about eating here for months after hearing such great things about the place.Once we finally went though, I can't say it was as amazing as I had anticipated... It was very good though! The starter and fries were great but I personally found the fish slightly bland... Cute location, nice interior and friendly staff. Definitely haven't been put off and would 100% consider it for dinner again next time I find myself in the area.

We have eaten in once and had a number of take aways from this great addition to the K&M stable and it is a fantastic to add a traditional fish and chip shop to the Abbeville Village restaurant scene. The staff are friendly, the service swift and the varied menu with some great add ons consistently outperforms. Of significant merit is that the take aways travel well in decent boxes which keep the contents fresh and warm!

K & M, which replaced the local Tandoori, has now settled down and can be relied upon to provide a well cooked and good value meal of traditional fish & chips either at tables within the restaurant or in the roaring take-out trade that they provide. We have been three times as a couple and the offering has got better each time.Service is very attentive, the food is nicely presented and now very good quality and value for money after early teething problems. A restricted menu with a choice of five or six fish prepared any way you want it and mounds of chips all well fried. K & M offer a small range of starters of which my wife really likes the calamari and side dishes including their famous mushy peas but the best side dish is the fennel & dill salad which is a good fresh tasting off-set to standard fish & chips.Well priced against local competition as easy to get a good meal there for less than £25 for two. But I agree with futtock21 ~ the drinks are premium priced and do not fit with the bargain approach of the food. Management think again please.I read Henry's comments about the take away but the restaurant food was good and well priced.

We've had take-away fish and chips twice from this local business. Their much-hyped chips were, both times, just not interesting. Our first experience was with haddock in batter, and that was very nice. This weekend we went for the cod. It was overcooked - almost a mush - and pretty nigh tasteless. It may be that it continued to cook in its fancy take-away box; this would might also explain the soggy, tedious batter. K&M is convenient to us, but I'll be going a bit further afield for a more enjoyable deal.

A new place in the lovely Abbeville Road area of Clapham. The fish is fabulously fresh and served battered or grilled. Using rape seed oil is supposed to be less unhealthy - but well worth the indulgence. Perfect chips and mushy peas. Prices are fantastic value - 1/3rd of what you would normally pay for similar quality fish. Great friendly service, nice atmosphere. We will definitely go again. This restaurant deserves to do well. GBP 34 for four.

It was Friday so fish seemed in order. Kerbisher and Malt which began, I think, in Shepherds Bush, has since spread its wings further afield to Hammersmith, East Sheen and Abbeville Road, Clapham. The latter is closest to me in Wandsworth so I decided to give it a try. It's in a stretch of road I can well understand is given the epithet Abbeville village, as it's a compact self-contained area of boutique shops, craft boutiques selling miscellaneous nick-jacks, independent grocers', a branch of Ginger Pig butchers and any number of restaurants, most with outside patios, some of which seemed to be doing a brisk trade, many of whom were empty. Kerbisher and Malt was fairly quiet with only a couple of other tables taken with folk finishing eating what was clearly a generous lunchtime bargain of fish cakes, salad and chips for under a fiver. From the starter section I ordered a half pint of prawns served with some pink mayonnaise but without the customary hand wash and towels to finish. A main of cod and chips featured a subtly battered square slice of fish with excellent crispy chips albeit some were a bit on the small side. Not bad value at £6.95 for the fish and £3.95 for the chips but I'm not sure why extra is charged for the bowl of mayonnaise: after all a similar-sized bowl albeit differently coloured was complimentary when it came with the prawns. It was nice to see London craft beer on the menu (I had a raspberry wheat beer) but none of the beer or wine seemed particularly competitively priced. The interior feels a little cramped and rather dark. It feels more upmarket a fish n chippy than, say, my local Fish Club in St. John's Hill, Battersea (I think they too have a branch in Clapham). But where Fish Club scores over Kerbisher and Malt is its more extensive and adventurous menu. Whereas the latter only really features cod haddock and one other fish, the former regularly extends to specials such as hake, scallops and royal bream. And there are kebabs and pies as well. So my prejudice in favour of my local chippy is confirmed.

Second time there last night. You had to ask for attention from the waitresses who were gossiping by the till. Our meal came quite quickly but the chips were stone cold. We only got to remark on this as the waitress delivered menus to people sitting behind us. What happened to "is everything alright with your meal..." Some hot chips came eventually. I had to help myself to vinegar from the side. The fish was nice enough, batter a bit strange, quite heavy. The people behind us got fed up with waiting and left. We were now the only people in the place. Still no evidence of any waitresses. The place is pretty poor on the whole, this is the second time we've been ignored in here. Where was the manager? We won't be back.

K&M is new and on my road so I though I should give it a try. Turns out its awesome! Fresh fish, good quality chips, nice decor, friendly service and all at a good price. Congratulations to the person who runs it. You've nailed it.

For just 4.50 I ate a huge and delicious filet'o'fish burger with a decent size portion of chunky chips. 5 of the 6 of our party couldn't finish the generous portions. I can also highly recommend the fabulous mushy peas. It's a posh chippy but they get all the basics right- good service, delicious food, nice atmosphere. Finished with two scoops of ice cream which at 3 pounds was cheaper than in many restaurants in London and also great. Would definitely return. Normal menu is kind of expensive (1.90 for just one sausage..) but hey that's London for you.

This is now our regular Friday night fish and chips takeaway, as the fish is amazing, but the chips always are a bit disappointing. They are alight, but I am far from wanting to 'write a love poem to their chips' like a review says on the menu! Mushy peas are good.

Couldn't fault this meal, fish was excellent and the chips to die for! Service was fast and efficient. Everything amazingly good value considering you are on abbeville road, bill came to less than £25 excl tip including drinks. I had the coley which was a great alternative to cod, the cod too was very tasty. Will definitely be returning!

We were excited by the prospect of a quality 'chippy' arriving in the area and went to try last night with high expectations, given the hype of the companies own presentation and the look of the restaurant. However, quality of the food failed to deliver and price is in top range for fish & chips. We all had the haddock and chips with mushy peas and bread and butter. Amazingly, the fish was less than fresh (I grew up in a fishing port and I don't need telling what really fresh fish is like), bread and butter for £1 was two slices of pre-buttered sliced white and, with a drink, the bill came to £17.50 a head without service. All four of us live locally, all four of us wanted it to be good, but all four of us agreed we wouldn't bother with a second visit. There are much better fish & chip shops in London providing much better value. Disappointing

We booked an outside table as they have heaters but they had no gas in either of them. This means that when one ran out nobody had bothered to replace it. At least the waiter tried the second one which we were grateful for but this place is not well run. Two things were missing from the very small children’s menu. We put out orders in and then all had to wait over an hour for our food. We had asked for some nibbles but nothing came. We eventually ordered some chips as there was nothing else to eat. Then the food arrived came and was almost inedible. The cauliflower Wellington had a soggy piece of pastry on it and was served with an undercooked chunk of cabbage. The gauchujong tofu was a poorly plated mess, and the tofu was rubbery. The arancini balls were just not tasty. The waiter asked if the food was ok within minutes of it coming and we said yes but hadn’t really had a chance to eat much of it by then and we were so grateful to get any food as were so hungry. The quality of the food was very poor for the price we paid. The staff seemed to be doing what they could but would often disappear and we had to go in to get service several times. Just don’t book this place and definitely not outside.

A very disappointing experience. I would strongly advise NOT going here for a Sunday roast. - We had to wait 45 for our order to be taken. - the Diet Coke tasted of nothing, how do you get Coke wrong? - The food was average at best. The Roast potato's were probably the worst I’ve ever had, tasteless and rubbery. The beef was badly over cooked and very chewy. Not satisfied at with my experience.
