My wife and I went to Sun Verge in Rhyl for lunch today, 16th March 2025. There were some positives (eg I had a nice beer), but my overall impression was that the food was dry and not the best experience, so I can't recommend it. Mixed grill - chips were hot, crisp and fluffy and there were plenty of them. The small piece of gammon was beautifully char grilled. Mushrooms and onion rings were nice. Sausage were small and below average for flavour (and dry). The egg and peas were passable - yolk was hard. The 4oz tiny lump of rump was rock hard and inedible (supposed to have been medium/well) - the close up photo doen't do justice to how small and bad it was. I had to leave that. The peppercorn sauce was tiny and cost £2 extra. Oh and there was a small piece of rubbery chicken. One to miss I think. The hunters chicken was very dry with very little sauce. Not one to repeat. Restaurants are often really stingy with their BBQ sauce yet charge the earth for the meals. Certainly best to avoid the mixed grill and hunters chicken (Southern Fried version). Thumbs down from me.

Worst place I have ever been too in my life 45 mins stood at bar waiting to be served only 2 ppl serving service is shocking avoid at all cost staff rude ignored when ask question lucky to get a 1 star

The carvery's appearance was deceiving. The food was utterly tasteless and boring. A complete waste of a meal. I won't be returning

Ordered 2 beers and 2 glasses of wine from the bar. £32.32. Was charged £4.22 gratuity for collecting our own drinks. I don't ripped off that bad in London. We are having the one drink and will not be returning. We booked a table for dinner for four. We will be leaving just as soon as the drinks are swallowed. We will NEVER return.

Top custmer service, they did everything to make us feel welcome, the food was piping hot, the atmosphere was great, I will defiantly be returning here again

We regularly have a carvery here and find it to be better than our experience today. The Gentleman (Ste) that usually serves us on a monday or Tursday is always very polite,helpful & friendly. Today (Wednesday) 1pm, we were served by an older lady who was quite rude Trina or Trisha, didn't seem to be able to run the bar as it should be, large queue but not that busy generally, most of the tables were reserved so the only table available was one for 8 people (2 of us) when we went to get served we were met by a stare and that table is for 8, and oh i suppose you can stay there, no ticket given to us for the carvery,hot drinks left to go cold on bar ( Ste brings them over ) didn't even apologise or replace drinks, moved table as she was staring at us while we ate. Ste asked us if all was ok and replaced our cold drinks. This lady shouldn't be working serving the public as she has zero customer service skills, she should take a leaf out of the young mans ( Ste ) book as he is professional and is a credit to the Sun Verge .

The staff were friendly and polite. The place was clean and the music was great ( playing some oldies) the food was nice and hot but a little on the small side. We came for dad's birthday meal, which was his first time in the sun Verge, he was happy with his curry and said he would come again. So, thankyou for a pleasant evening :)

My friend carys recommended this place and she couldn't have been more spot on. Food was delicious and hot. Staff were friendly and very helpful and the restaurant itself was clean and felt very welcoming. Would visit again

Amazing place!, great atmosphere, staff are all so kind and friendly, drinks and food speak for themselves! Our favourite place just to have something to eat or have a few drinks with great company, wouldnt go anywhere else!!

Amazing atmosphere, staff are amazing! when my grandad fell poorly he wasn’t able to go out as much or often as he wanted to, until on a whim he came into the sun verge and from his first day the staff took great care of him now he’s happy to say he’s one of their number one customers!! Couldn’t thank the staff more for taking great care of him and making his experience better and going above and beyond to make him feel welcome

Polite friendly staff,drinks were ordered via the app,delivered to table 20 within minutes.

The carvery was nice the pudding lemon pie was unusual but nice the staff we’re lovely but never come round to see if everything was ok apart from that a very good evening

The staff were very friendly and very polite and I felt welcomed it’s a really cosy pub with stunning interior and the views are amazing also the best part for me was seeing the Doggy Menu as I’ve never seen that in any other pub . And it’s an amazing idea I will definitely be going back that’s for sure

I would like to say thank you to the outstanding service and welcome we got from staff at sun verge. The man who seated us at table 9 went above and beyond for our little lady in a wheelchair. That kind of care and attention goes a long way with us so thank you so much for making sure we were happy and comfortable. Oh by the way, the food is amazing.

Overpriced ..awful food ... pint of IPA nearly £7 !!!! Waited nearly 25mins for food no one else eating in there but us, so why the long wait ?? We had a double cheeseburger that had no cheese on it ?? Soggy lettuce and the meat tasted awful .. dont eat here nearly £13 as well came with fries that were rock hard & reheated wont be eating here ever again ..

Love the carvery here. A choice of 3 sizes of plate and usually 3 different meats to choose from. The place is clean and staff are lovely. Great sea views while you eat.

Hour to wait for food and the quality was terrible

This place is a shambles went yesterday and got 2 carverys havent stopped throwing up since 6am this morning was barely any choice was only there was crumbs of meat left and will NOT BE RETURNING!

Kid friendly, dog friendly unfortunately some staff cannot be so customer friendly. Great staff member in Rachel. Lovely views. Great cocktails and drinks. Food is usually good a little bit hit and miss.

We visited twice one on the 7 Jan when the woman behind the bar who took our order was disinterested and ungrateful. She was unsuitable for her role. The food was ok at best. The young woman who brought our food was much more suited to her role, pleasant. We went back the next day as it was tight next door to the Travelodge and it was bitterly cold so we didn’t want to walk into Rhyl town. The staff were far better this time but the Tai curry was poor. Mine was mostly liquid with a few pieces of vegetable. I expected far better from a company as large as Marstons to provide good food and service.

Well never been here before until tonight but the way the bar staff treated us like we had been and i knew everything but hadn't a clue with how to order or how to pay. Don't think it nice have to try and enjoy a meal with barking dogs uch it was like sitting in the kennels The food wasnt the best I've had but when my partner half way through his meal there was a peace of black hair on his plate under a chip he hasn't hair and I'm blonde So disappointing and won't be returning just to add I did tell a member off staff about the hair he just laughed it off as I did say I didn't want to make a fuss buy was shocked he laughed it off And I didn't know that was the dog friendly section u should of asked if we was happy to sit at the dog friendly part (seeing we didn't have a dog) u also need to get ur male kitchen staff to wear hair net over facial hair and head

Great picky food with lots of drinks. Just the job

Well been a while since we visited here but are daughter told us try it it's changed so my son treated myself and his mum to a birthday meal on Saturday and was really presently surprised was great found a seat straight away really enjoyed are Meal top makes to the chef and staff.. vast improvement since are previous visit

Not as good as previous experiences. We come here yearly after the Rhyl pantomime and this year we were disappointed. The booking was stressful usually we don’t do a deposit but had to which was complicated with 14 people and different families. The food wasn’t good this year. I had pigs in blankets with the cavery that were raw so couldn’t eat them. Service wasn’t good either so I don’t think we’d return.

Drinks overpriced food passable

Food tasty and hot. Staff very attentive. They were spot on with allergies. Any questions were answered straight away. It was a shame they had run out of sausage for kids sausage and mash. Overall a very good experience, we will be back

I went to the Sun Verge as it was my favourite place to eat when I lived in Rhyl a few years ago. Sadly, I wish I hadn't, the staff were lovely, polite, helpful, and cheerful, the manager, however was vile. He was rude, obnoxious, and very unhelpful. I ordered meat free sausages with my carvery but was told I would have to wait a few minutes, no problem, I went to collect my vegetables etc from the carvery counter and sat at my table which the young guy who served me entered into the till. I finished my complete meal but still no meat free sausages had arrived, still not really a problem, but as I had paid for them I still wanted them. I went to the bar and the young girl and young man were really helpful and couldn't apologise enough, however they said they needed to speak to the manager. So I went with them to speak to the 'manager', he said to me, "where have you been? We have been looking all over for you to tell you we don't have meat free sausages", I said I have been sitting at the table, the number of which was entered into the till. He disputed this fact, but I had, obviously, not moved as I had been eating the rest of my carvery. He repeated this statement more than once, but when I tried to tell him I hadn't moved as I was eating he rolled his eyes and said whatever you can have a spinach tart instead. I said okay, then he said it will take around 5 - 7 minutes, I said no problem I will just go to check on my dogs and I will come back In 5 minutes. When I got outside I was really upset because I was spending Christmas alone for the 1st time and was really looking forward to being around other people enjoying Christmas. I couldn't bring myself to go back in to face this rude man again so I went home. I am so throughly disappointed about my experience and very sad, especially as it was the Christmas season, but my day was ruined by this thoughtless man.

It's definitely 5* for the barman Ste(Stephen). He was actually doing everything. Serving behind the bar, waiting on tables. Also the carvery, until someone else took over. He is an asset to the place. The Carvery wasn't very nice. Beef was tough, peas hard just awful really. It's a shame , the pubs in a nice area. Short staffed as well.

Fantastic wreath making workshop with Rachel who was so lovely! Bargain with carvery and drink included! The only thing I’d say is that the carvery wasn’t hot but it still tasted good!

Booked a carvery for 19 people. It was a Clwyd Alyn work day out for staff that followed a picture hunt round Rhyl. The food was lovely and the carvery meat was really good. Have known carvery meat to be a bit dry sometimes with it being under the lights but it was great and a lot of colleagues commented on this. Your staff were great as always (I come there quite often for a couple of pints). If there was one thing that I would say could improve, it was just the cauliflower cheese. It wan't cheesey to me but that is just personal opinion and if it was more cheesey, other people might not like it. I still ate it all though lol so not really an issue. All in all 10 out of 10. Thanks for a great meal and service from me and all that attended.

Popped in for an early evening meal after a long drive up from somerset, my wife and I went for a hunters chicken meal, chicken was well cooked and chips were crisp and not oily, we were pleased we looked in.

Went for a meal last night. Must say meals have been hit and miss in the past last night was excellent cooked to perfection and service was great.

Went for Sunday carvery. Only given two small slices of meat for standard meal. Usually get 3 decent slices of meat at other carveries for the same price. Disappointed. Was better last time I went there.

Great place for pre theatre meal with good pub food and carvery and polite, efficient staff but be aware that mean Denbighshire CC now make you pay to park!! This means pay to park to eat, they pay again to go to the theatre!! Disgraceful !!!

Had the carvery. Potatoes were rock hard and yorkshire puddings were tough as well.

worst setvice ive ever received,been working away 1st time ive been in for 3 months woww how things have changed,was served by a blond lady quite tall,roughly mid 50s with glasses,never experienced service and attitude like it,no wonder it was dead,premium prices with horrendous service,i will not return.came in on 12/11/2024

My first plate of food looked over cooked well the fish, I could not eat it so I sent it back . The second dish that came out was good. I don't like to complain, but if things are not right, then one should complain. It's how the restaurant deals with your complaint matters. The second dish was perfect, so thank you to the staff for putting things right.

I went here with my partner for his birthday the food was lovely all tables were cleaned the service was great the staff are nice and polite and food came quick loved it here and will definitely come back here more often :)

Overall the experience was excellent. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Prices were reasonable and value for money for portions on what we ordered. The food was very good, although my one complaint is that the steak on both mixed grills that were ordered were over cooked. We ordered one medium-rare and one medium and both arrived medium-well to well cooked. Still perfectly edible, just not as ordered. One suggestion I have is that you add the BBQ steak topper to the mixed grill add on menu. 100% will be returning again- first place I've seen belly pork on offer for the carvery and I hope it's still offered when I next visit.

We were a group of 12 people. The staff were courteous and very helpful and the food was great. Everyone had only positive comments about the quality of the food served. The one point to address is the number of people behind the till, especially in busy times as I had to wait quite a bit even just to place the order. Otherwise all good and will visit again.

The carvary wasn't as good this time .The sprouts were dark green and bitty.The carrots looked dry..My husbands fish snd chips were fantastic though. The service was excellent

Woman on till was totally unacceptable within her demeanour and attitude the company needs to realise we pay good money for this and to be abused by staff for telling my wife the table no, who was talking to her also the food and gravy where cold

Our group had the Sunday roast the food was ok I wouldn't pay extra for pigs in blankets again as they were small and tasteless. We were served quickly due to us going up and having the roast. Downfall was they let people in with dogs and the dog just kept barking so we couldn't relax and talk as we could just hear the dog next to us ( this was not a working dog ) .

Unimpressed ordered 2 coffees on entry never arrived ,carvery meat (beef) neither myself or my wife could cut it tough as old boots , being a party of 7 and spending over £109.00 expect more won't be returning.

Marstons should be ashamed of themselves for cutting back on staff to this level . Many people walked out. REQUIRES IMMEDIATE AND URGENT ATTENTION.45 minutes wait for food after 25 minute queue to order. No tables cleared during our 2 hour visit

I understand it's dog friendly but why would you seat someone with 11 dogs, sorry I will fix my English "why would you seat somone without dogs in a room with 11 dogs in it. To reiterate I never had 11 dogs but there was 11 dogs in that portion of the restaurant

I wouldn’t even serve the food I got from sun verge to a starving dog, disgusting, the cowboy burger was raw in the middle I don’t think a cowboy would even eat it, my friend had a mixed grill the sausage was cremated RIP, they gave us free deserts as an apology NO THANKS.

We visited the Sun Verge today for a family meal. Initially there was a misunderstanding regarding our order, however, the Manager came and explained the mistake to us and offered complimentary drinks. Once sorted the food arrived promptly, tasty and hot. All the staff go above and beyond. I would recommend.

The food was wasn't great at all my teens ordered adult burgers and got about 10 chips that was hard not worth the money I had to cook them something later when home the table was sticky and the toilet's had toilet paper scattered all over the floor unfortunately it's not somewhere I'd recommend

Drove all the way from Liverpool and my sister from Leicester x Booked in the travel lodge opposite x And was hungry so the closest was sun verge x So we both went over to order a carvery don't get me wrong the bar fella was very helpful x But the food was disgusting I got turkey and beef the beef was full of fat and you couldn't even chew the beef so put that to one side started on the turkey and it was so dried up couldn't eat it so I left that to x Started on roast potatoes and they where like rubber the knife wouldn't even cut them x So all I had was the veg by this time veg was cold carvery was put onto a cold plate so everything went cold very quickly x No one even came round to ask was everything OK so I had to take it to the bar I explained everything and I didn't even get a sorry no reply wot so ever x You could see on the plate all I eaten was cold veg x My sisters was the same she had beef and gammon she said she would have to leave the beef as you couldn't eat it x I was fumming cos no one even said sorry x I will never go in there again and if people Shere going in that day nor will them x I heard another couple complained too x

The place is tidy, food is ok, there’s a worker called Steve who’s really funny and nice. All workers are brilliant 👍🏻✨

Came for a birthday meal, was quiet and well lit. Although tables were the horrible sticky wood which was off putting. Food was great, came out fast, well presented and hot. Staff were also very helpful and happy to bring out our birthday cake. Slight issue with ordering through the app but when mentioned, staff managed to get our order quickly. Would recommend based on staff and food

We pre booked a table and were seated in the window facing the sea which was lovely. We ordered and staff were as always friendly and polite and asked it we needed anything else. Starter was lovely and the mains were cooked lovely, hot and tasty. Were were cleared of any mess and asked if we wanted to order more drinks, which we did. My only comment was there were lots of dogs and as much as I love them, we have one at home late in the evening is not for me really-5pm should be the cut off for pets and then not have a smell for a meal. They were all behaved but we had 3 sat next to us. One of our favourite places for a carvery on a Sunday is here and will always return.

I usually ignore reviews and like to try it out for myself. My daughter and I went in just after 2pm. Although there were plenty of people it looked liked they had eaten. We found a table easily so that's what gave it a 1. We were served fairly quickly by a girl with dark hair grey shirt didnt get her name. So that gave it a 2. There were only 2 bar servers and the bar is very big. We were in an organised queue but just after it became chaotic as people were queuing in all areas. We went to the carvery had to wait. My plate wasnt warm at all. The roast potatoes were odd. New potatoes with a slight roast and rock hard 0. Mashed potatoes tasted like smash 0. We waited a good few minutes for gravy and this meant my meal was cold. 0 The gravy was gloopy and didnt taste of meat stock. 0 lastly there were no knives and forks so my daughter went hunting for them.0 In all I waited at the bar because there were only 2 serving 0 I waited for the Carver and had to prompt staff 0. I waited for gravy and had to prompt staff. Had to self serve own cutlery AND last straw no pepper in pot! Will not be going back anytime soon. It's not peak holiday season yet...so how they going to cope.
