The Summer House in Sheffield

This was not the first time I had paid a visit to the summerhouse on each occasion the food and service has been perfect. On this visit with my In-laws the restaurant was busy we did have to wait longer than normal for our food but we were not disappointed it was delicious the service was excellent the lady who served us kept checking on us and was very friendly. I cannot fault the food or the staff everything was perfect 🤩

To be honest I’ve not eaten here for a number of years because previously been disappointed by the food. However, booked a table recently and the food was fantastic. Will definitely be back.

Great location. Food all came sadly lukewarm. We were given a discount off our meal due to this. The service was very slow. Expensive, won't be returning.

This is a delightful cafe with friendly staff. The menu is wide ranging and my beef kofta flatbread was very tasty. The staff were very helpful to my infirm dad and our dog. Certainly worth a visit

Experiencia decepcionante esta mañana (puedo ver que alguien más tuvo una experiencia similar hoy). Llegó y los dos servidores estaban teniendo una charla. No se detuvo y nos dio la bienvenida o nos reconoció de ninguna manera, simplemente continuó charlando. Entonces estábamos sentados en el conservatorio muy frío (nadie más estaba allí tan inseguro de por qué). Cuando preguntamos sobre la calefacción dijeron que era lo más cálido que se pondría (nosotros y otros huéspedes estaban sentados en abrigos) . Tuvimos que conseguir que alguien nos sirviera y esperó 25 minutos para un café. Cuando llegó el servidor dijo 'lo siento, su café con leche se ha ido a pique'. Le dije que nos íbamos y para ser justos con él (parecía un buen chico) dijo que no nos culpaba. Muy pobre, no volverá.

Terrible. Slow, poor service and freezing cold.

Booked a table well in advance for our Christmas meal out with friends on Saturday 21st December. Received email a few days before stating festive menu was ending on Friday 20th which was disappointing . I ordered Thai red curry for main course . The only taste was from slices of raw red chilli which had been sprinkled over the sauce and the vegetables were overdone. Although I left it all there was no comment from the waiting staff. Apart from that the 2 staff who served us were lovely and very efficient bringing our drinks.

Prebooked a table for 7 with a set menu, arrived at the agreed time. Had to wait 30 minutes just to get water on the table 🙄 only 1 bar staff working the whole house, poor staff organisation, food was presented lovely, although it was a long wait for courses to be served. I had brie starter, a little overcooked but still delicious. Main course I had steak it was cooked perfectly. Brownie and ice-cream for dessert, delicious and rich gooey chocolate. A little overpriced I feel but it was a Christmas menu

This place looked so pretty from the outside. I longed to go for a meal. You can't fault anything. Staff were so helpful and friendly. Food was amazing and the atmosphere was great. The Christmas decorations outstanding. This is my new favourite place. Can't wait to return to have a few more cocktails too .

Terrible slow service, one starter inedible, the short rib burgers were horrible, and three of deserts sent back. Wouldn't recommend or return. Avoid.

El bacalao Tandoori estaba delicioso. Estaba bien presentado aunque el plato podría haber estado más caliente. El personal era muy reventado, pero el joven que sirve era muy atento y era un crédito para el restaurante.

Beautiful restaurant with a lovely lively atmosphere. All the staff were lovely. Service was very slow, although they were busy. I don't mind waiting for food, but I'd rather not do it with an empty glass. The food we had was really nice, but we found the menu lacking and struggled for anything to take our fancy. We will be back, but just hoping the menu has been revised a little before we do.

Vengo aquí bastante y es perfecto para el desayuno, el almuerzo, la cena cualquier cosa! La comida es siempre 10 / 10 y la presentación es increíble! El personal es encantador y acogedor en la puerta, yo recomendaría 1000%. También he visto algunos eventos aquí en las últimas semanas, así que para aquellos que buscan reservar para grupos más grandes de personas este sería un gran lugar para tenerlo

Vino con amigos a tomar un par de vinos. Servicio genial inicialmente, pero justo después de las 8 volví a encontrar el bar en la oscuridad! Me dijeron que el bar estaba cerrado y lo acepté, aunque me decepcionó que no hubieran considerado a sus clientes externos. ¡Reintenté pedir que el baño fuera recibido por un miembro del personal extremadamente grosero y abrasivo que me dijo que solo me dejaría usar las instalaciones una vez si me daba prisa! ¡A lo que le dije que me tomaría mi tiempo libre! ¡Cuando salí, me dijo que pensaba que habías tenido una mierda! Nunca he experimentado un servicio tan asqueroso. ¡Sólo asombrado por la grosería!

Absolutely delicious food, as always! Super sized portions, nicely presented and great service. Would highly recommend.

Came recently for a Birthday meal and the food and service was great. We come here often with family and friends and have never had a bad meal. Favourites are the Prawns Pil Pil and the Tandoori Cod which is delicious. My husband tried the Greek Chicken dish this time and this was also lovely. Really welcoming for the kids and a great separate kids menu too. Staff are lovely and the place always has a nice atmosphere even on a random Tuesday night, which is not easy to achieve.

Very good experience I take their classic burger and it was the best burger I have ever eaten !

Having been to the Summerhouse a few times over the years, I always look forward to a return visit. But something wasn't right this time. We arrived for an 8:15pm booking and were seated, drinks given and orders taken quite quickly. Starters then took about 20ish minutes to arrive, but it then took a further hour for our mains, meaning we didn't actually get them until about 9:45pm - which by that point, we'd gone past the point of hunger. I think the food was nice but I was only really eating it for the sake of it by that point, which is a shame when not only was it my birthday meal, its also not the cheapest menu out there. I also heard two other tables asking about the whereabouts of their food, so I can only assume there was a problem in the kitchen that night. In fairness to the staff, we did get a drink each on the house after about 50 minutes. As a side note - there was an INCREDIBLY rude older man on the table next to us to which the young waitress handled really well. He initially moaned very loudly and rudely about the delay, then when he food finally arrived, sent it back because he wanted it without salt, and i heard him tell the young woman to "just do her job". When asked how his food was, he then moaned once again about how it was "actually very boring" (well yes you asked for it to be sent back and returned without seasoning so hardly surprising) and the whole time, this young waitress dealt with him like a pro, despite the fact most of his annoyances were out of her control. So credit where its due, she did well in the circumstances. As I say, i suspect something had happened in the kitchen that night, but it does mean we are unlikely to return.

We were there as a group on the 29th September for a private party re my Granddaughters Blessing. The buffet and overall service were absolutely excellent. The lady who did the food was very very good, would go again and would highly recommend. Thank you 🙏

First time here and it was a great experience. We didn't have a reservation so had to wait about 10 minutes for a table. Our waitress was great. Plenty options on the menu. Our appetizers were excellent. I had the crispy pork belly and it was sooo tasty. I had the chicken sandwich for my meal and it was also delicious. All the food was good. I enjoyed my drinks. Overall we enjoyed this restaurant. I do recommend.

Went for a meal last night and the service was terrible. Booked in for 6 and it was 9 o clock when we walked out. Waiting absolutely ages for meals. No one came to ask us for more drinks how the meal was or to clear the table. Went to reception area to pay and said we’d had terrible service and she said they were short staffed. We said you need to pass our comments on to the manager which she replied she was the manager. Won’t be rushing back again. The young man on the bar was very friendly but we would have had more drinks and coffees if we could have got the service. Never offered desserts. Won’t be recommending.

Had a lovely brunch with my daughter and baby grandaughter her friends and their babies, the food was delicious 😋 I had Avocado on toast with poached eggs it was yummy x

Amazing experience and wonderful etiquette from staff the young lady who was serving us was brilliant forgot to get her name but next time I go in will be sure to leave a nice word about her to the management. Food was utterly gorgeous wonderful presentation and was filling me and my family will definitely be coming here again did not have one complaint. 10/10

Hit and miss in honesty but acceptable in the main.

What a stunning place this is. The decor is tasteful, subtly lit, but not too dark. The staff were attentive and not in your face at all (very much appreciated). Our large group ordered a variety of things from the menu, but we all received our food at the same time. I ordered the red Thai curry, which was unbelievably nice. I'll definitely order it again on our return. All in all a very good experience and somewhere we'd definitely recommend and definitely visit again.. Sean.

The servers worked hard to meet our needs. The young man on shift was particularly helpful. However, they were woefully understaffed, and that did lessen our experience. The food was lovely and well presented. The greek salad needs less lettuce, but the fish finger sandwich was delicious.

Amazing food, lovely staff and great service. I thought it was a bit pricey when I seen the menu but that's just me being lower class and not being used to this kind of food. I opted for a veggie Sunday dinner and it was delicious. I would have paid double if I had it! Delicious!

Waited over an hour for our food and when it came 5 out of 6 meals were cold. Can't complain about about the 6th meal as it was a salad. Won't be returning.

Was visiting a friend last week so we had the best Pornstar Martini I’ve ever tasted followed by the delicious dinner which was the cod bhaji!! The presentation was amazing on the plate! Loved the location/venue. It’s been renovated since I last visited Sheffield. Will definitely be back when I’m next in town! Staff were very nice too. Thanks for a lovely eve!

Lovely little place to eat. Service was great, and staff really helpful and happy! Food was great, but maybe a little on the cool side, so we're the hot drinks. But everything tasted lovely and the quality was superb. Also the cost was less than I thought walking in....cheaper then Starbucks but more expensive than a small greasy spoon. Pretty spot on considering you get a high class vibe when you walk in. Will definitely be returning.

Nice place to pop into for snack,coffee or a meal. The staff were very attentive and the prices here were quite surprising as we expected them to be higher with the look of the place and the quality of everything we had. Give this place a try.

A lovely restaurant with very tasty food.

Really disappointed today on my first visit here. I came here with a group and a high expectancy of a great time, however, myself and most of our party left disappointed. We had pre-ordered weeks in advance and expected effecient service. It actually took them an hour and 25 minutes to finally get the last dish to us. The food we had wasn't great ,the beef Kofta and Fishfinger sandwich were flavourless and poor for the price. They may have been having a bad day but most of our party said they wouldn't go again or recommend it to friends. Sad really as the place is lovely and the staff are nice. The kitchen needs a shake up l'm afraid.

Only had a couple of items , coffee good , tea cake a basic version, with minimal butter! Second visit, had main course, beer and coffee Had large chicken sandwich, with chips. Good and filling. There were 2 of us and ex colleague had same sandwich, with fries.

First visit and it was fantastic. Lovely breakfast - freshly cooked, hot and tasty. Plenty of choice and big portions. Service was excellent and the interior is stylish. Prices are reasonable. Will definitely return.

I was quite disappointed in the breakfast. I ordered 'American waffles with bacon & syrup'. The waffles were terrible, it was clear they just defrosted a 'Belgian Waffle' they use for desserts. They werent 'american waffles' as stated on the menu, they were tough, dry and had clumps of sugar in them - very disappointing!

Came with high expectations after looking at the website but left disappointed. Starters were really nice but felt the mains were very average. Service was very slow and had to remind staff about orders several times. Would maybe return just for drinks but wouldn't go again for a main meal.

What a shame…Summer House used to be a a lovely intimate upmarket restaurant to go for a special meal. Unfortunately, they have gone too big and the majority of tables are now empty so there is no atmosphere. The bar has ruined it, there is people walking around /threatening who are absolutely hammered tonight. You don’t expect this when paying £100+ for a meal for 2. It’s more like a Sheffield city centre bar at 2am. The food is still very good but we won’t be going back . We used to Love Summer House but sadly they have lost what they were good at..

Came for a birthday meal, not somewhere I would usually dine. The food was ok, nothing special. The service and atmosphere were awful.

Treated here by our daughter ahead of Mother's day, but I managed to get included aswell 😀 I've heard great things about this place and they are absolutely right, great atmosphere, very attentive staff, and most importantly very nice food. Would certainly recommend it myself now.

Family birthday celebration. One young girl serving all tables . She worked so hard but should have had more support. One of the pre orders not available! Special request for a jacket potato instead of fries refused. Chicken dish tasteless had to have refund! Seafood starter minimal prawns! Table booked for 7pm main meal not served until 9pm. Starter was a 50 minute wait. Had to go to bar for own drinks. Lovely restaurant but badly managed, customers needs not prioritised. Wouldn’t go again, long night waiting. Overpriced.

I visited for the first time today. Such a lovely place. It was really busy and felt really lively, especially for breakfast time. It kicked off my extended weekend off nicely. The staff were great and seemed to be loving the vibe. I followed the advice of another reviewer and tried the Rancheros Platter. Wow! It was really great. I’ve never had Mexican for breakfast, and it worked a treat! I’ll be back for that for sure. Lovely coffee too. Well recommended. Lovely place. Thanks to everyone for making it so enjoyable.

We held our engagement party in the secret garden within the Eden Bar at The Summer House for around 70/80 guests. The owner & the team really went the extra mile to make the occasion perfect for us, and we can't thank them enough. All of our guests commented on how delicious the food was, which the kitchen kept delivering throughout the night to keep it fresh. Even with our high number of guests and a busy bar & restaurant, ordering drinks from the bar was really quick too! Amazing service all around. 100% would recommend this venue for any special occasions.

A very individual resteraunt and bar in a great location. Summer house really stands out and has excellent food, a great selection of drinks and friendly, smiling staff.

There were 5 of us for food this evening . We were there for 25 mins before we we’re even offered a drink . We then waited 50 mins for food which was nice when it came . The female server was miserable and never smiled once and appeared miserable. I have eaten here a few times and was very disappointed with the service and server .

Picked at random when looking for somewhere close to Sheffield RUFC. Currently one has to negotiate a "building site " to park but managed no problem! Lovely friendly greeting on entry, pleasant environment, As we were on the cusp of Brunch and Lunch waited at our table for a few minutes, with a drink, so had plenty of time to peruse a varied menu. I chose a Goulash and my wife had Thai curry with prawns. They were both outstanding! The seasoning and "spicing" were perfect and the goulash had loads of succulent beef and the curry plenty of King Prawns. Service was casually efficient and all the staff seemed to enjoy working there and working together. The only confusion was that one of the waiters looks just like Marcus Rashford! His smile lit up the room! I couldn't have wished for better quality food and service

Very disappointed. I booked for a table of 9 for my daughters 18th birthday (for her plus friends on Oct 14th) .. the summerhouse were aware it was for her 18th and that I would be dropping off balloons and paying a chunk of the bill in advance, which I did. On arrival, the girls were all told that the kitchen staff had gone home and closed the kitchen due to a power cut issue! No one phoned me in advance to let me know. The owner wouldn’t come out and explain. The staff said that they had tried to get a message to one of my daughter’s friends but hadn’t tried to contact me. It was difficult to get my deposit back, and no one phoned me the following day to apologise or explain. My daughter and her friends spent extra money getting taxis to the Turkish restaurant after wasted time and stress. I would have been happy with a phone call explaining and apologising the following day. A good will voucher would have been nice. No contact at all.

Really good breakfast and reasonably priced as well.

The loaded fries starter and tandoori cod main i had were really nice. My wife had the Gambas Pil Pil starter and the Sirloin steak main. She enjoyed the starter but was disappointed with the steak, overdone for a medium cook and pretty tough. Desserts were really nice, sticky toffee pudding and brownie and ice cream. My wife was sick a few hours after leaving, we think this must have likely been the prawns. Generally was a decent place just partially let down by the food on this occasion, would still go back and give it another try for a meal though. Would happily go back as a place for just drinks too

Not very good at all. Older member of staff acted like she didn't want to be there. She couldn't remember what we had pre ordered and didn't seem bothered at all. Luckily the younger members of staff we more attentive. Food not bad but over priced. We had pre ordered to a memu they had sent us, Feb 2023 but were told when paying that prices had gone up. Surely it would have been better to send us the correct up to date menu. Won't be going back

Average as went for Birthday Brunch - allowed to take birthday cake in but not able to eat on premises due to poss allergies but dogs allowed in restaurant!! Pre paid deposit was not taken off bill - had to go and ask to be taken off - poor Customer service throughout!! On a positive most of food was fine but we had pre ordered

Out for a walk, fancied a coffee and thought we'd pop in. Turned out they had been flooded, still managed to find us a delicious coffee each, they had clearly worked through to make the place spotless. Coffees and staff are amazing, absolutely recommend.

We had a booking for 8 last night, turned up to a power cut which meant no table, no food and a cash only bar. Whilst I completely understand this was out of their control we were offered nothing as compensation and we left having paid a £40 deposit.

Our first visit and sadly our last. We booked for brunch and it was a huge disappointment. The service was dire, items we had ordered were forgotten so we had to politely ask several times. Even coffees took ages to arrive, the staff blaming other colleagues. The food, when it finally came was pretty awful. Bland, tasteless and unappetising. The ingredients looked and tasted cheap. The Hollandaise sauce made me feel nauseous for days. Most of the waiting staff were rude and unfriendly, barely a smile or a kind gesture, so unwelcoming. This should be a good place to eat, it has nice decor, in a nice location, but the food and service are shocking.

Came with 2 friends for a birthday get together. Two of us had the seafood cocktail. This was under small plates description. This was an understatement !! Hardly any lettuce hardly any prawns. No idea where the king prawns were and salmon pate ! One of us had the halloumi burger and the bread was soggy! Had to ask 3 times for water for the table. Service was so slow. Shocking. As for service charge I don't think so ! No service given !! Will not be returning.

My daughter and family treated us to brunch for my husbands birthday. Do not go here if you expect to receive your order in a timely manner. We have been several times and despite thinking we will give it another go, the service never changes, at least when we have visited. We waited an hour after we ordered for the food to arrive. I do feel a little sorry for the serving staff as they can not be held responsible for the failings of the kitchen. My daughter prompted them after 45 minutes and the front of house lady apologised and said our order was actually in the course of being plated up but it still didn’t arrive for 15 minutes. She did however offer complimentary drinks, coffee, tea etc. Additionally, the restaurant was not even half full. The food was lovely but the kitchen really need to get its act together, more chefs, better organisation etc. it’s such a shame because the restaurant has different themed dining areas , all comfortable and well presented, Some of the younger staff seem to wander aimlessly and not appear to know what they are doing ie taking orders to the wrong table, and are not really customer focussed…not properly trained perhaps? Such a shame because this could be a great place.

Can't comment on the food served here, not eaten at the venue but the beverages on offer were well priced and of top quality, the level.of service was good without being exceptional and the place does have a welcoming atmosphere....would I recommend it to friends and family, well actually yes I would ... personally I drunk in a lot worse places 😁

I got arancini and it was only 2 pieces for £7.50, I also got tempura cauliflower bites and they didn’t taste of anything. Very bland and also £7.50. The guy who served us on the bar was nice and my friend said his burger was alright. The lady with the brown hair came to collect our menus but didn’t ask us how the food was. Was quite disappointed by it all. The decor is nice.

Booked for a duel 40th birthday celebration at 6:30pm and when arrived it wasnt that busy but once we order at approx. 6:45 we didn't get our food until 8pm which was quite disappointing as we were all looking forward to deserts which we didn't get time for. I rate it 3 stars as the food when eventually it came was nice but the whole timing was pretty disgusting and the poor waiter (Daniel) must have been very disappointed not getting any of the 7% service charge they put on because we really didnt think it was worth paying due to how long we had to wait. It was a Wednesday night god only knows what they are like on a Friday or Saturday night when they are really busy.

It took almost an hour between courses.When my Tandoori fish came it was cold and the Bombay potato was lukewarm.The place was less than half full but it still took an hour for our mains. Extremely disappointing.

Wonderful brunch with friends recently. Eggs ‘shakshuka ‘with quesadilla and avocado. Generous tasty portions and well priced with friendly service and good coffee. Will definitely be back!

Excellent Sunday roast. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere.

We were booked in at 8pm, we arrived on time and stood in the middle of the restaurant while several staff just ignored us. Should have left then but eventually pursued them to show us to our table. We were given menu’s but no wine list. 15mins later a different waitress returned with a wine list, As she tried to leave I suggested “Maybe we could order drinks ?” Oh yes I’ll come back in a minute ! Eventually we got drinks and had to ask again if we could order food. Basically feels like no management and young untrained staff, bringing drinks and leaving empty glasses and bottles, The food took over an hour and a half for starters ! And main course arrived one hour later. Just unacceptable, They did apologise because we were such a big table !! We were 8 people ? The food was ok but at 10:45pm I had had enough really. If the owners can’t be arsed to train the staff and the kitchen aren’t capable of getting 4 Starters and 8 meals out in under 2 hours they really don’t deserve my patience. Oh and guess what when the bill came they had charged for 3 extra starters. Do yourself a favour and go somewhere else. Absolute waste of time.

Was a bridal shower recently, super food and drinks.

I live just up the road and this is one of my locals. We ordered a cheesy garlic bread and some fries. In total it took almost an hour for our food to arrive. We waited 25 minutes at first and when it arrived the waitress took it to the wrong table so we had to wait a further 20 minutes for our food to actually be delivered to the table. When it did finally come, the waitress didn’t even apologise…. My wife then came in to the bar to buy some drinks and providing we waited nearly an hour for a garlic bread and some chips we thought maybe they would compensate us the 2 cokes she ordered. Nope. In total we waited a good 45 minutes for some bread and a few fries, no apology and no compensation. I’d suggest going to S17 just up the road, the food is amazing and the staff are brilliant! Not the worst service but definitely not the best. Disappointing.

Popped off the train at Dore & Totley rail station Sadly the real ale pubs are all a good trek away. Came here as it is at the end of the station car park. No real ale. Madge had a half of Aspall cider. Large place with lots of outdoor seating but it is next to a busy rosd. OK but not for a real ale drinker.

Chicken Supreme my wife enjoyed it the only let down was salty pork that it was wrapped in. The Diablo pizza mmmm nice heat, nice thin based pizza well it would of been it had a soggy bottom, could done with 5 more mis, staff absolutely very pleasant.

Would definitely give this a miss. Took 3 attempts to book and even then the manageress got the date wrong!!! No apology! Food on the menu no longer available but not removed from the menus. Desserts sold out despite our booking at 6.30pm and the restaurant half empty on a Wednesday evening. No apologies throughout. The waiter and waitress did appear to be friendly yet embarrassed at the general lack of customer care and lack of food. The food was average for the pricey restaurant. Very dissappointed in this visit. We had family visiting and took them here. Very embarrassing overall. Manager appeared to be hovering yet made no attempt to apologise or offer alternatives or even provide complementary coffees for the lack of service provision. A costly waste of time.

Beautiful restaurant with excellent food. Great outdoor seating area a massive bonus. Very friendly staff too

Not very good food options for those who can be picky eaters. Not good for children. I got an flavoured iced coffee and they must have used dark roast or expresso because it was far too strong and not that sweet. Also the food is expensive.

Young waitress staff were ok. Burnt garlic bread came as starter. Waited ages for main course. Plates and food were cold. Tasted ok but pieces of tandoori cod were stone cold in middle. Shame as we looked forward to coming but wouldn’t go again or recommend to anyone else.
