A lovely relaxing cafe with superb cake 🎂

Stur of the moment is a lovely place near the top end of the high street that’s worth going to for both a breakfast, brunch or tea and cake. Every time I’ve been into it for a breakfast I’m happy they’re using the sausages from the local butchers which is fantastic. When the place is quiet it’s pleasant to have an unhurried meal. No bustle and a quiet little nook can treat you well.

Came here today for lunch. We each had breakfasts. One vegetarian breakfast abd one was the Stur breakfast (a large meat breakfast). Both very good. Also had tea. This was a generous tea pot for two of us. Great value for money and friendly service.

I attended the pudding night here and was left more than satisfied. Starting with a nice sized savoury platter of cheese and meat I inhaled this to get on to the puddings. An absolute dream sat on the table waiting. Starting with Bakewell tart then banoffee pie moving on to jam Rolly Polly and spotted Richard with custard, chocolate tart, then lemon cheese cake and more. The flavours there utter perfection, a rich chocolate with a thin layer of toffee sauce in a delicate crust. A tangy lemon flavour in the cheese cake. The perfect balance of banana and toffee with thick whipped cream on top. What more can I say? They even make a great flat white. Worth every penny. Accomodating a table of 5 including a toddler the staff are really friendly and well organised. Perfect.

Made so welcome with our puppy on a really wet, windy Sunday. We were wet, the puppy was trying hard to be good. The Big Stur breakfast was epic. Filling and great ingredients. The plate was swept clean. Generous portions for the hungry traveller. Pleasant surroundings and friendly staff. They cared for us. We will be back.

A great cafe, busy in the morning with breakfast and coffees etc. Clearly well liked by the locals and visitors alike. We travelled almost 20 miles to have a lovely fresh breakfast here. The decor is fun especially the cruet - you need to visit to see! The staff were helpful and the service good. I recommend it and we will go again.

2 couples, 4 breakfasts. Fantastic food, served piping hot,excellent service. Just wish we'd come earlier in the week as we would have explored the main menu. Very dog friendly.

Lovely lunch here. We all had a panini which were tasty and served with a generous salad and coleslaw. Hot drinks were spot on.

A really friendly welcome but a couple of things fell short for us. When asking about gluten free, I was told they do gluten free bread. Unfortunately it didn’t go much further than that and they weren’t sure which other items on the breakfast were gluten free (hash browns, sausages etc). It’s not much help having gluten free bread if you don’t know that the rest of your dish will be gluten free. They kindly offered to swap the hash browns out for bubble and squeak for me, but I was nervous that even this wasn’t checked to be gluten free (I heard our order being communicated to the chef in the kitchen). We ordered and waited quite a long time for our food, which was fine but we were expecting it to be really good. I had to ask to swap my cutlery at this point as the first set I was given was greasy and had food on it. The food arrived and looked quite good but the bacon was overdone and thin, and the bubble and squeak was just very soft shaped and fried mash potato with a lot of white pepper. But the main issue we had that was our breakfasts were only just warm. My tomato/mushrooms/bacon was all cold, maybe hot plates would help? Sorry, we really wanted to love it as it’s obviously a family business, but we probably wouldn’t return.

My friends and I stopped for lunch at The Stur Of The Moment on a whim (we all admire a good pun) when passing through Sturminster Newton on our motorbikes. What a wonderful place! The staff were incredibly welcoming and the food was delicious - freshly cooked, good portion sizes and very well priced. I would definitely recommend stopping here for a bite to eat. My friends and I are already planning to visit again the next time we're in the area.

Had a delicious (and really large) full English breakfast. My little one had a perfect jacket potato cheese and beans and wife had the biggest club sandwich I’ve ever seen! The service was first class and we loved the decorative touches on the tables. We’ll be back very soon!

What a gem! My sister-in-law was visiting from North London and has done some online shopping at Harts so she wanted to see it. Great shopping and a very pleasant lunch. A great experience all round. Something for everyone. Lovely staff.

I arrived late morning on a Sunday and ordered a big breakfast with changes with no issues at all. The breakfast was lovely, well cooked and flavourful. Staff were lovely and welcoming, gave me a choice of table and it turned out I knew one of the lady’s sons through cricket. Overall, a lovely experience and I will be coming again.

It needs to improve its signage outside as you wouldn't know it was a cafe unless you get right up to the door. Inside the small hallway was a desk and cakes on display. Makes it crowded and unable to view cakes. I would get rid of the desk and move the cake display into the cafe. Inside the decor is lovely with plenty of tabled. We arrived Sunday early afternoon to be told no plain scones and very little choice of cakes. I had the cheese scone and it was dry , definitely not fresh that day.My daughter had a brownie which was delicious. It has recently been taken over by a new owner so hopefully they improve it . It was very quiet when we were there , which is sad as it has the opportunity to be a lovely cafe .

Now under new management. The prices seem to have increased - £9 for a smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel, but the food is still good and you are still assured of a warm welcome. Cakes can be taken away so you can always pop in for one of those if you're passing.

Lovely friendly staff. Pretty place. Only ever had breakfast and I have the big stur. And its lovely. Decent fresh butchers sausages black pudding xan be added. Come away very full. Also had the choc brownies. I'm not a sweet person. But those are next level good. In my opinion the best breakfast in stur.

One of my favourite local places to meet up with friends, great home made food and drinks, friendly service and because I am in a wheelchair they are always accommodating and spacious disabled toilets and I like that when I book and arrive the owner always calls me by my first name and the atmosphere is lovely and the decor of the place is warm and oldie worldly.

It Is a friendly place. I got a takeaway coffee recently it wasn't very good compared with other outlets.

This was the perfect place to enjoy a lovely lunch with my family and their dog. I had not been here before but I will definitely be coming back soon.

Popped in for lunch for the first time with mum this afternoon. We had a delicious lunch in the beautiful little courtyard garden. The staff were friendly and welcoming and double checked the Gluten Free options before we ordered. I had a bacon, brie and cranberry toasted panini and mum had the same but with Gluten Free bread. Both of us agreed it was delicious and the bacon was crispy and well cooked. We would definitely return.

We had 2 lovely breakfasts while staying in Sturminster Newton. The sausage sandwich and bacon sandwich, really good value and lovely friendly staff.

Smashing breakfasts. 7 of us visited today for breakfast. The staff were happy and friendly and easily accomadated us. We all had cooked breakfast (2 veggie). There was plenty to eat and all good quality and delicious. We will definitely return.

Love the relaxed, friendly vibe. Cracking menu and fully loaded plates of delicious food. The tea rooms have plenty of space between the tables and over all it’s just great energy. I would highly recommend a visit!

Excellent cafe, we really enjoyed our lunch here. They have a good range of different sandwiches and paninis as well as hot options like soup and jacket potatoes. There is also a selection of cakes - my friend had the brownie after lunch and let me have a try of it, it was delicious!! The staff were also lovely.

Visited here twice during our stay nearby. Just for lunch but it was delicious. Side-Salads could maybe do with a little shoozing-up Recommend the Stur-Club Sandwich (Chicken/Bacon) The Vanilla Milkshakes are lovely too. Good Coffee. If you're into Eco-Friendly products there's a super shop right next door too where they'll make you fresh peanut butter!

I was lucky enough to have a cream tea here courtesy of the sturminster Newton literary festival and was treated to a fabulous array of cakes and scones and dainties all hand made by the warm and welcoming Portia. I can not recommend this slightly old-fashioned tea room highly enough. I urge everyone to visit if they are ever in sturminster Newton.

Such a beautiful cafe, full of character and charm. Have visited a few times, with friends and with family. Each time I have visited, the service has been so welcoming, warm and friendly. The cakes are exceptional, the brownies in particular are a must try! The food is great value for money, so tasty and freshly cooked. We are so lucky to have this cafe in our town! (Also dog friendly with a little jar of biscuits on the side which I feel is a lovely extra bonus!)

I met up with friends for a surprise mini baby shower for 3. They were so accommodating to our wishes and allowed us to decorate our table to make it extra special. The food was really delicious, as always. Wonderful friendly atmosphere. I had my 8 month old baby with me, again, staff were more than happy to help and accommodate to his needs. I can't thank you enough for making this mini surprise extra special.

Portia's establishment has become a favourite place, both for takeaway and eat in. Always generous portions, sandwiches are very tasty. All her cakes are delicious and the brownies are justifiably famous 😋

An absolute gem of a cafe in the heart of Sturminster Newton. Beautifully decorated for the festive season and the staff were wonderful and attentive. Highly recommend the luxury hot chocolate and my bacon, cranberry and brie toasted sandwich was divine! A real asset to the town. Highly recommended!

Such a gem of a place which is a huge asset to Sturminster Newton. Portia and her team give a friendly welcome, service with a smile and the food is always delicious. The building is full of character and there is plenty of space both inside and in the pretty Sunny patio garden. Whether popping in for breakfast, brunch, lunch or afternoon tea and cake you will not be disappointed. The regular menu is topped up by the specials board and all of the food is freshly prepared, good value and portions to feed the hungry! We love The Stur of the Moment😊

Absolutely love coming here, only discovered it a few months ago, and try to go once a week if possible to support the lovely folk who work/run the place! Delicious freshly made food, speedy service and warm, friendly atmosphere! Seems to always be full of regulars who the staff know and chat to (a lot of them older people who must love being able to have a chat with them!) Definitely the place to go in Stur, well priced, great portions and lovely people! 10/10 every time! Great work Portia and gang! Xx

Stopped by for coffee and cake and a chat. The cake was literally insanely gorgeous. Never had a slice so big with a fabulous cup of coffee to go with it. Highly recommended. Can’t wait to try the mains and deserts.

I met up with my sister and her family on Saturday for lunch here. We were made very welcome and enjoyed coffee and lunch together. It was very enjoyable and good value for money. We even returned for tea and cakes before heading home. Thank you for your warm welcome and excellent service on such a cold day.

Came in today for a breakfast with the wife. I had the veggie breakfast and she had the sausage bacon and egg sandwich. Absolutely delighted with the food quality and taste. Service really personal and good. Great value for a wintry morning breakfast!

Hadn’t been back to The Stur of the Moment since before first lockdown but decided to pop in for lunch after a walk with our two little terriers. Really wish we hadn’t left it so long. Made so welcome and nothing too much trouble. Food was delicious especially the millionaire shortbread. Even a little plate of free dog treats! Would thoroughly recommend m. We won’t leave it so long til next time.

A drizzly dull afternoon and we decided to pop in for a coffee and a cake. We were welcomed by Portia and thoroughly enjoyed her homemade brownies and delicious cappuccino. Warm cosy atmosphere makes this a special place and we will recommend this place to our guests.

Called in, three of us, for lunch. Met by the lady who turned out to be the new owner. A lovely welcome and told we could order from the lunch menu although the kitchen was due to close in a few minutes. For me it was the best sausage sandwich on super bread attractively served with slaw and a small salad and crisps. My wife and her sister both had wonderful choc brownie, rather large portions, well huge actually! Service was with a smile, the place was super clean and I am told the loos were perfectly clean too. Nothing not to like here, plenty of space and attractive decor. But it’s the welcome and the smiley service that will stick in the memory. We wish the lovely owner every success, it’s really deserved.

This is a beautiful little place we found whilst on holiday. We was looking for somewhere to have a full English breakfast and this place delivered. The staff are so friendly and welcoming and the food was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. Prices are fair for what you get will 100% return when we next are in the area. Keep doing what your doing it's amazing.
