Lovely dinner. I would warn however that the staff brought around what we thought were 'chefs favours'/Amuse Bouche as they took around to all guests and did not ask if we would like to order or that there was a cost. These were then added to the bill. This felt a little deceitful and left a bitter taste for us. We would recommend that the staff simply say "would you like to try one of these canapes (not on the menu) and they will be added to your bill'. Locals are probably aware of this 'custom' of Strawberry Tree.

First visit here, four of us for a family birthday. Really pleasant, friendly staff who were very helpful when it came to the menu. Lovely interior, if a little bright. Food was quite excellent, beautifully prepared and presented. Stand out dishes were the aubergine and sugar cane, black pudding and manchego and quince. Prices are OK - £210 for four, with tip, £38 of cocktails and a £30 bottle of wine. Food came to c.£120 for 11 dishes. A couple of the specials were a little expensive - £14.50 for Cecina Beef and £16.50 for Jamon Iberico - and the restaurant offers canapes from the bar at £2.50 each, might be better if these were offered free of charge. We were also charged £2 for a second portion of bread, which was much-needed to soak up some of the quite delicious sauces. Overall a delightful experience and well worth a visit.

My 2nd tapas course at the Strawberry Tree Cookery School & just as good as the first! Ed & Giselle make it a fun easy to follow experience peppered with interesting info about the history of the dishes you prepare. A lovely day shared with others at your own workstations & finishing over much conversation & the delicious lunch that you’ve prepared. Add to that the excellent wine & coffee and you have a fabulous way to spend a Sunday with the added take away of the recipes and skills to do it all again & impress your friends! As a person in my mid 80s who has traveled the world and eaten in over 50 different countries and always enjoy eating in good restaurants this must have been one of the best meals I have ever had. Yes it’s a Spanish tappers restaurant, but this is different to what you would expect. I am allergic to 3 types of food and they had prepared a menus for me with what I could have. I was eating and really enjoying, items that I would not normally have touched. The service was faultless the food beyond what could be expected and the drinks perfect. It’s only a small place and understandable it gets booked up so book in plenty of time.. I understand that the chef was brought up in Morocco and then lived in Gibraltar so the food has a influence of both countries thank you for a very enjoyable experance

This is a perfect spot in Lyme Regis for a casual dinner, tapas being the ultimate in leisurely eating. We had booked for an early supper, as we had our grandson with us. He is an adventurous eater & always willing to try any food . We were welcomed by a lovely lady who showed us to the booked table, and we were sat just inside the door to the garden. It was a bit cool, with the unseasonable weather, but we were quite happy to sit there. The menu came & we were slightly surprised at the small selection of tapas - in Spain there is more choice. We told our server that our grandson was allergic to egg “ how bad is it “ she replied - does it matter ? This made his choice of food very difficult, as when we asked it was unclear how many had egg in it - not a great start. The potatoes tapas were very strange, always to be relied on, it was more like potato casserole. We asked if the “ hand carved “ ham at £16.50 could be served as a half portion ( always available in Spain) , and although the server said yes, she had to come back. & tell us No, as it came in pre-sealed packs - not hand carved here then. We moved on to pudding, and no one could tell us if any of the puddings had egg in them - that is not acceptable- sorry - we really wanted to love this place. Having seen the previous reviews, I feel sorry that I have had to submit this “ less than perfect “ review, but allergies need to be taken seriously, & all staff should know what is in the dishes they are serving.

Not going to lie, the food was kinda ruined by a sodding seagull. We bought three chorizo pasties and some cake to takeaway, and whilst I was attempting to give a bit to my daughter some VERY confident seagull swooped in took the WHOLE THING 🤯 Quickly learned a very important lesson about Lyme Regis, and that’s eat your food with caution 😂 Oh, we also bought some lemon olive oil and some smoked sea salt. Sure, it’s more expensive than you’d pay in a supermarket, but so it should be. We like coming away and support random places that we find, and the whole “Mill Lane” area is quite nice and picturesque. The type of place I could imagine spending a nice afternoon with my wife. Alas, we had three young kids so we didn’t really fancy sitting in a small restaurant 😅 honestly, they’re too chaotic for that. But yeah, if you’re in the area and fancy giving somewhere nice a visit, then give Strawberry Tree a crack 👌🏻 just be AWARE OF SEAGULLS.

Owners Ed and Giselle were charming and our waitress, Emma from Manchester was great fun.) The food – small Tapas plates, was amazing. The Pig Cheeks with Prunes and Sherry, Chicken Skewers with Micro Herbs and Yoghurt, Cod Cheeks in Tomato Sauce and the Canaries Style potatoes with Mojo-Rojo Sauce – were delicious. Popped into this lovely Spanish themed tapas place for a quick lunch while walking the dog. The place was empty which rarely bodes well, but oh what a joy. We had the butter bean, chorizo and smoked sausage stew with bread and olive oil and a bottle of light Spanish red and it was utterly delicious. Finished with a raspberry and almond frangipane and a salted chocolate brownie for me. We also walked out with a couple of tins of Spanish paprika. So it begs the question 'how is it this place is empty, ever!'. The stew was a revelation of flavour with the smoke coursing through the dish like an Argentinian BBQ, the beans, which actually I have struggled with eating in my life were delicious and really held the flavours of the spicing perfectly. Normally I would take a photo, but I was way too busy to think about that while my taste buds were being so wonderfully tickled. Oh and they do classes also if you fancy recreating some of the tapas dishes on offer.

The Prawns pil-pil were the highlight for me…I felt like I was back in Spain…but my wife enjoyed the croquetas more…but everything was good. This will be top of my list for next time we’re in Lyme Regis…and I will probably try to sync up my visit with one of their cooking classes - I’ve always felt scared to try making paella but I would bet that fear will evaporate after a class here.

We love tapas, and nobody does tapas like the UK. We have been to San Sebastian and their tapas was just curled-up sandwiches on the bar! Ergo, we have had tapas all over the country and the Strawberry Tree is possibly the best ever. From the cool location, to the warm welcome, to the delicious food, this was a delightful evening. The standard menu looks a little light compared with some but don't be put off because there is a specials board (rare at tapas restaurants) which added another layer of flavour. We cannot pick a favourite dish because they were all equally good; though, personally, I am a huge fan of sardines so the two special sardine dishes were appreciated. We started with five small plates between us but had to order two more, as we were enjoying it so much. One tiny gripe is the repeated up-selling. We don't want any bread, okay?

The menu was not extensive but they did have daily specials. We ordered Both the smoked sardines and fried sardines to start. Both very delicious but small portions. We then had the pil pil prawns and the croquettes. The prawns were delicious but the croquettes were bland. I am not sure what was in them apart from mashed potatoes which was not well seasoned. Our final course was the meat balls Canarian potatoes and the aubergines . The aubergine dish was a super tasty but a bit too sweet. The meat balls and canarian potatoes were both disappointing. Not enough seasoning and the meatballs lacking in taste. We booked ahead and had good service but overall portions were very small and it was expensive. Some refinements are required to some of the dishes which were under seasoned. If I’m going to pay premium prices for food I expect each dish to be well seasoned and tasty.

We booked hoping for an authentic tapas experience but unfortunately were left very disappointed. When we arrived a little early we were initially directed to sit outside in the dark on wet wooden benches for a pre-dinner drink despite there being room inside for us. There wasn't a lot of meat or fish dishes on the menu and 2 of those they did have were no longer available to order. I had some chorizo sausages and a hastily offered battered squid dish... my partner was left eating pretty much vegetables. There were big time gaps between each of our dishes being brought out and the potato dish arrived just as we were finishing. It all felt very ordinary and not one dish left us wanting more. £70 spent and we left .... It isn't proper Tapas, and is expensive for what you do get..... perhaps it was an off night for service and food but we won't be back to see regretfully.

Superb Restaurant. Went in a month ago a bit late with a friend and they were unbeliably charming and helpful (thanks for the last minute beers). Then went again last week, and had an even better time. Great food, and amazing staff - a credit...

Ate at the Strawberry Tree last Friday. We had a wonderful meal with excellent tapas and good choice of wine and sherry by the glass to compliment the food.

We loved The Strawberry Tree. Great communication in booking and really friendly service all evening. Food is authentic and of a high quality, with interesting flavour combinations which were fresh and tasty. Nice drinks, including an unusual Sangria which we really liked. Thank you!

Outstanding authentic Spanish food including several vegan options. Really attentive, friendly service in a beautiful designed restaurant in an idyllic location tucked behind an old mill and just opposite the Lyme Regis micro brewery (which is also well worth a visit). For the quality of...

Absolutely lovely place, my partner and I were celebrating and went for a nice date here. Great food with lovely decor, chef even refunded us the price of our desserts as they weren’t satisfied with the presentation (still tasted amazing). Will definitely be back again this summer, would recommend.

I visited Summer Lodge with a friend to celebrate her birthday. We ordered a cream tea which was advertised as freshly baked scones daily. We were shown to the drawing room and sat down. Then a waiter came to ask what tea we would like and tried to joke with us which was not necessary. The scones arrived and were frozen in the middle! So much for freshly baked scones! When I complained the waiter then said ' so much for our freshly baked scones!' Then joked that we must have got them out of our handbags! Totally inappropriate. Not a great experience for parting with £34 for 2 cream teas! The building and setting is very lovely. A shame that our experience was not up to expected standards.

Fantastic gem of a French restaurant, authentic full-course menu, great wine list. Try the Rum Baba.
