Stayed here for a single night. Friendly staff upon arrival was the only real positive. We were taken across the road to our room upon arrival. The rooms are in a run down house opposite the hotel, known as “The Swan Lodge”. It is badly in need of a major refurbishment and very tired, which was not what we expected for the price. I had to clear spiders and cobwebs from the bedroom and en suite shower room. Dinner at the pub was pretty basic and should have been so much better for the price charged. Breakfast was served back over at the lodge, by a gentleman who had a piece of egg on his cheek and very grubby clothes. The poached eggs were barely cooked, with runny egg white still clear. All in all a poor experience, which is a real shame as the beautiful location deserves so much more.

I came in for a family dinner, it's a very cosy pub with lots of photos of local life and times of what I assume to be people associated with the pub, it looks like this place meant a lot to quite a few people. The highlight for me was the dinner, I had the potato and broccoli bake with garlic bread and a salad, it took me back to my aunties cooking when I went round her house every Sunday, so it's difficult to put into words how much I enjoyed the food. For dessert we had sticky toffee pudding and a homemade crumble, both served with hot custard, as it was a chilly day that was perfect to warm us up before we left. I will definitely be back again if I'm in the area!

We visited after a visit to both the swannery and Subtropical gardens. We recieved a warm welcome from the team and also a friendly local who was enjoying a drink in the bar. The menu has a good selection of food a lot of which is homemade. Our food arrived quickly after ordering it and was well presented and tasted delicous. We also ordered pudding both of which were homemade and yummy. The food is good value for money and the Swan offered a relaxing place to enjoy our food. It's a shame I live so far away in the midlands as this would make a good local for me. Thanks for an enjoyable dining experience

Disappointing, stopped spontaneous but had read a couple of good reviews so expectations were high. My husband had the pie with fresh veg & potatoes- which he states as good. I had the lasagne which was bland, first mouthful was hot but got cooler nearer the middle, I should have complained but had eaten too much before I realised it being cold in the centre. Flies everywhere which I detest around especially when eating. Atmosphere was horrid few locals with crap music on, not a pleasant experience & wasted money, left highly disappointed.

We finally stopped off at this lovely pub after passing a few times and saying we must try the food especially as there was a crab ploughman's being advertised, two of my favourite things together which you don't often see. There is a large garden area for sitting out, it was a lovely day but we decided to sit inside, it's a lovely old pub with character which we liked, nice and friendly too. We just chose a main course each I had the Crab Ploughman's which was lovely, nice dressed crab and a warmed cobb roll best I've had, My husband chose the sausages in rolls with onions and some chips as a side and he enjoyed his, nice proper sausages and not cheap catering ones, and my Mother had the fish goujons which were fishfinger size which came with salad and chips she really enjoyed them. We were served prompt and not long after sitting down the food came over so we couldn't fault the service and the food. We will be back again soon but next time to try the Sunday lunch.

I visited Summer Lodge with a friend to celebrate her birthday. We ordered a cream tea which was advertised as freshly baked scones daily. We were shown to the drawing room and sat down. Then a waiter came to ask what tea we would like and tried to joke with us which was not necessary. The scones arrived and were frozen in the middle! So much for freshly baked scones! When I complained the waiter then said ' so much for our freshly baked scones!' Then joked that we must have got them out of our handbags! Totally inappropriate. Not a great experience for parting with £34 for 2 cream teas! The building and setting is very lovely. A shame that our experience was not up to expected standards.
