The Strand Stores Cafe in Mid Devon

Half way around my cycling route, called in for coffee and a bite to eat. Great food, coffee and very friendly staff. Will return!

Amazing Brie Panini but the jacket potato wasn’t hot . We ate it within 3 mins of collection so it’s quite strange. Was a very long wait I think it’s because people don’t get too many takeaways?

Highly recommend! We had the pleasure of hiring Strands Stores for our Cowboy Themed Christmas Party in December, and it was a fantastic experience! The lady from Strands Stores (Ellie) was incredibly nice and accommodating, making the planning process a breeze. The food was delicious, perfectly capturing the cowboy theme, and the presentation was spot-on. The staff were friendly and attentive, ensuring everything was perfect. Strands Stores added a special touch to our celebration, and we highly recommend them for their excellent service and delightful catering. Thank you, Strands Stores, for making our party memorable! The Strand catered for our in-house work lunch, they delivered on time and all the platters were carefully wrapped and beautifully presented with a great range of salads, meats, quiches, breads to name a few and the most wonderfully presented fruit platter to finish. We were provided with a contents list with all the ingredients in case of allergies. I can't recommend highly enough. We will definitely use you again. Thank you. Delicious breakfast! Lovely staff and great coffee. Perfect stop after a dog walk down the river. They also have a little shop full of useful bits!

Visited twice now, first for coffee & cake last summer both of which were top notch, and more recently a private drinks party for which this venue was ideal. And as a non-drinker I was particularly impressed at the wide range of non-alcoholic beverages on offer. Recommend 👍

I went to Strand stores for a friend's party in the evening and it had transformed from a lovely café to a classy wine bar. Perfect for a small, cosy but sophisticated evening out. To top it off the wine is really good and reasonably priced. Would thoroughly recommend it!

We had 35 musicians in residence in Culmstock for four days and the Strand produced four different yummy lunches to keep everyone going during rehearsals. All beautifully presented, ready on time, catering for various diets and tasty.

I used the Strand Stores outside catering for a private party during the summer. They provided an excellent range of sandwiches, sausage rolls, crudités and colourful salads, all with a comprehensive allergens list and the best salad dressing ever! They can tailor to your particular needs or budget. Highly recommended.

We called in with a group of charity cyclists for drinks and snacks and Ellie couldn't have been more kind and helpful with us. A lovely range of gorgeous food and tasty coffee. All the cyclists loved it and in such a gorgeous remote area. Highly recommend

Stumbled unto this shop and despite being late they still served us reasonably priced freshly cooked food.

Wat een leuke, gezellig bar/café. Vriendelijke bediening, goede koffie en thee. De scones en panini's moet je hier gegeten hebben.

After an idyllic dog walk along the River Culm it was perfect to discover this great place...we only had soft drinks and a coffee but such friendly service..literally a jewel in the Crown of this delightfully pretty village.,

Popped in for a coffee..had a latte and a cheese scone. Sadly the scone was as dry as saw dust and lacking any cheese flavour. On the plus side coffee was good

Great little shop, very friendly staff and really nice cake. We didn't eat in as it was a flying visit, but would highly recommend as chairs inside and out so you can have a drink or food whilst listening to the river Culm

Lovely little village cafe with deli counter and shop to serve the community. We had cappuccino and a hot chocolate. Great local beers, ciders and other products are available too. I bought a New England Style IPA from Red Rock Brewery which is quite uncommon in this part of the world.

Had a lovely sunny drive to the Strands Store and cafe. Received a warm welcome and we loved t as soon as we walked in. Had a delicious coffee and breakfast. Will definitely go back.

Arrived at 10.00 placed order, took 45 mins to be served, some items cold.

When we are in the area we always drop by to grab some savoury goodies which are always delicious and great quality. Stayed in the area this weekend and managed to grab a breakfast here, loved it. Friendly staff and would recommend

Had some time to kill in the area so grabbed a couple pasties, pieces of cake and quiche for a quick bite before a short stroll along the river. Food was really nice and found a lovely spot on the riverbank to sit and read while the dog paddled in the water. If you plan to do the same bring a blanket to sit on.

Worst coffee I have ever had, asked for cappuccino, they don't do it.... so went for a latte and flat white. When I asked which was which she told me they were pretty much the same. Yeah both bloody awful. Also purchase a flapjack, which I'll save to feed my horse as he's the only one in the family with a steel stomach. Worst £11 I have ever spent.

Really nice place for a coffee and breakfast roll. Staff were really pleasant and made you feel at home.

Lovely little traditional corner shop with a twist. Great local produce and a cafe area. I popped in for something for lunch and they made me a tuna roll to take away. Delicious. Very friendly, would recommend.

We missed breakfast so had to choose lunch.. But it was fabulous! I chose the salad bowl, and my partner had ham egg and chips. I mentioned I was vegan, and they came out to check what I could and couldnt eat. When it came, it was so beautiful and very yummy. Fresh salad, with some flavoursome cous cous they made especially. A warm garlic flat bread was a wonderful accompaniment. The service was great and its a lovely little place for good food.

Only a brief visit, but it's a lovely little shop & cafe, the staff were really welcoming, and that's one of the best breakfast rolls I've ever had.

What an amazing find. This little cafe/shop in Culmstock is a little gem. The food was amazing, service was excellent and just what we needed after a lovely walk down by the river. I would recommend this cafe to anyone visiting this village.

This is a superb little gem of a cafe tucked away in the small hamlet of Culmstock. I heard about this place from word of mouth and thought I’d give it a go. Hand on heart the nicest vegetarian quiche I’ve ever tasted with a superb mixed salad. My description will not do it justice but it was great. They have a nice good selection of locally sourced sustainable produce on the menu with a small shop attached which I made full use of. There is a pleasant walk by a nearby stream which has previously been mentioned which was nice. Good wild swimming spot in the summer I’d wager. Honestly if your in the facility and need a good bite to eat, pop along. You won’t be disappointed.

The nearby pub was closed, happened to note The stores Cafe was within walking distance and open. Very friendly service and great quality food. Well worth the detour. Excellent post lunch walk along river. Hope to return sometime

So pleased that the lovely Strand Stores is open again. Had a delicious lunch of falafels with a trio of salads and toasted naan bread. Lovely location and relaxed atmosphere.

10/10 the coffee and cake are excellent cyclists take note. The breakfasts coming out of the kitchen whilst I waited looked and smelt delicious. Lots of interesting and unusual products stocked. 👍👌

Good social distancing measures in place, we had the sausage rolls, scotch eggs, pasties and pizza, all were superb! Very filling for our picnic on a long hot walk by the river.

Warm and welcoming with a homely vibe. We enjoyed the most amazing sausage roll we've ever tasted, simply scrumptious! Great coffee service and atmosphere. If you are passing then make sure you pop in!

Myself and Chris had the pleasure of meeting up with Sally and her team during the easing of the lock down. We were there to install their new air conditioning systems. As a contractor we couldn't have been looked after better, with a free lunch and refreshments from their country kitchen store all day long! We were lucky enough to each enjoy one of their legendary sausage rolls, that have to be the most meaty sausage rolls we've ever eaten, with some brown sauce they were really scrumptious! If you are passing through and are feeling peckish or are local and haven't yet ventured down then please do, you'll be pleasantly surprised.!

After climbing the nearby Blackdown Hills on my cycle in 'Indian Summer' conditions, I was more than ready for my afternoon tea-stop, and greatly looking forward to another visit to The Strand Stores and Cafe in Culmstock. I was not disappointed, for upon entering the Store or deli, my prayers were promptly answered: one portion of delectable carrot cake remained on the plate! The generous piece of cake was served by the highly engaging Tom, who had also made the cake, using a secret family receipe. Well, all the best cakes are produced with secret recipes! The top of the cake was neatly and distinctively decorated which also indicated attention to detail and made it instantly recognizable.While I savoured every delicious mouthful of the cake, washed down by my refreshing pot of tea, I enjoyed the civilised ambiance of the place, also mentioned in some of the other highly positive Reviews which I fully endorse. It was also readily apparent from my observations that The Strand Stores serves as important hub for the community, with numerous local people calling in for their different requirements to be met and satisfied. One thing is for sure: that I will return to this friendly and welcoming establishment at my earliest opportunity, for another truly rewarding experience.Steven

Brilliant little shop that sells absolutely loads especially considering the size of it. The food is brilliant, had a fantastic breakfast here a few weeks ago. Definitely worth stopping in even for just a cup of tea, the whole place has a lovely old fashioned feel to it. Great service every time as well - keep up the hard work.

The Strand was recommended to us. We were told to try it as it was" the best breakfast ever had". Not wrong! It was worth the journey- travelled from Somerset to Devon for the Full English and pancakes. Delicious!

Best Eggs Benedict I’ve ever had, plain and simple. I recommend this cute little deli and will be returning.I’d recommend booking on weekends and there isn’t much room for a push chair inside. Best to go as a couple or a four. If you don’t mind eating outside then you have even more chance of getting a space.

Great staff, great product. Lots of locally produced items and home made savouries and sweets. Also serves up art and also little essentials.Try the Tiffin, it is incredible!

Fabulous food, gluten free and vegan, delicious hot and cold lunches with perfect ambiance to relax. The shop stocks a good variety of produce, wines and beers, perfect!

Visited as part of a group of seven; we were visiting the area on holiday. We each had a fabulous brunch; locally sourced produce cooked perfectly. Despite us being a fairly large and loud group; we felt welcome and had a wonderful start to our day! For each of us - it was a highlight of our trip!

Great Cafe in a pretty village. So nice we visited 3 times during our long weekend stay in Hemyock. It also has a handy shop selling provisions and local produce including beer.

We have been here a few times and tried breakfasts and lunches and the quality is the same really good and freshly cooked people are very pleasant too.

This little village coffee shop and store is a hidden gem. Perfect for those cyclists stopping by for a coffee and brownie (which are amazing!). Plenty of other items to purchase too. Would certainly reccomend visiting on your way past, you'll not be disappointed.
