Baobab Cafe in Mid Devon

Old broken sofa & junk all over the place. Scruffy & dirty has never been trendy. Shame the food wasn’t better. Very basic. Interesting response from owner. Seems he’d rather be ruined by praise than saved by criticism. But certainly fits into today’s narrative, if you don’t agree with ME then you’re not welcome here.

What an unexpected surprise! We stumbled on this gem of a restaurant and absolutely loved it! The food was stunning and the service was fantastic, and we will most definitely come back again. Highly recommend this restaurant!

This cafe cannot be faulted. The staff are amazing, the food is superb and prices very reasonable. If you are visiting the area do not miss this gem. You will not be disappointed.

I was feeling a bit delicate when I went to this cafe as I was just getting over a stomach virus. I asked if they had anything simple and not too spicy. The choices for me were a complicated chick pea salad or a complicated but less spicy cou cous salad. I opted for the latter and it was gorgeous. So apparently was the chickpea sald that my companians opted for. I've been there on previous visits to my daughter and I'n never dissapointed. Lovely food, lovely position in a sunny town square, friendly, speedy service.

Delicious set lunches with great vegetarian mains and imaginative, tasty salads to accompany them. Also has a lovely selection of Middle East inspired drinks. Highly recommended.

Visited whilst staying locally, staff very friendly, food excellent, delicious salads. Great atmosphere. Something a bit different from the usual offerings, it felt like you were abroad. Really enjoyed the beetroot salad.

We'd been painting pottery nearby when we decided to catch a late lunch . Everywhere had stopped serving but this place was open . We ordered lunch without looking a menu and sat outside in the sun . We were treated to delicious food, fantastic service and at a good price . I totally recommend!

Great vegetarian options, full of flavour and cooked from scratch on the premises. Host/owner very accommodating and pleasant to speak to. Good value. Nice ambience, friendly and warm. Nice location in town square.

This is my favourite cafe in Crediton! Really lovely staff and a great atmosphere. Recently had an amazing vegan breakfast here and they always serve the best oat milk lattes! My only criticism is that they are not open more days of the week so I could visit more often!

Love this place. Eran is a superstar and the multinational cooking he does is amazing....Egyptian Night, Lebanese Night and Levantine Night were all unbelievable experiences. Can't wait for the next one!! ❤️❤️

Lovely Moroccon cafe in the centre of crediton. A gem of a place. Prices slightly steep but costs of running have gone up.

Pleasant food & ambiance - service friendly but patron a little tricky. Beware final bill check-out man - I was short of cash which I put towards service & having paid the bill by card, I asked to add a bit more & so paid a second time - contactless. I later discovered I had been charged more than double the amount I had volunteered as extra tip....ah well...

The food is fantastic. The staff are really friendly and very knowledgeable about their produce. Great atmosphere - it was really busy when we were there and buzzing.

Utterly perfect coffee, amazing smoothie full of flavour, brilliant, happy, smiling and quick service.

The owner of this place is the loveliest person you could ever meet and goes way above and beyond every single time. Had a family meal here and unfortunately one of my family members was being awkward and the staff went out of their way to cater for them which they really didn't have to. Another time, I came here with my partner who has a digestive issue, and he came over to learn more about it and said he would help us put together some recipe ideas for us to try at home to possibly help him. Such kind, caring people... and obviously the amazing, fresh food and great coffee with great prices is always going to have us coming back.

A really welcoming vibe to this eclectic venue. Food has a middle eastern influence with tastes of Turkey and North Africa. A real gem of a place if you are looking for really healthy and colourful food with a superb ambience and yes the coffee really is very good! Definitely going back when next in Crediton

Blown away, excellent greeting from staff, absolutely wonderful food and drinks, the atmosphere has a brilliant chilled vibe which will have you relaxed in no time. Prices are a great deal for the quality of what's offered. Will be a must visit when we come back to the area.

Friendly and characterful, sited in the pretty Market Square, this is one of our preferred places for lunch in Crediton. Food delicious as always, though our salad consisted of red cabbage slaw with lots of parsley, and a few spinach leaves, a little more variety would have been welcome. The music, though pleasant, was too loud, especially for someone hard of hearing, making conversation difficult. We ended our meal with baklava and sahlab, both utterly delicious. Good value.

We are so lucky to have this gem in our Town. Always super fresh and inspirational flavours.

Popped in at random and I was blown away by the flavour of the food. Quite literally one of the nicest meals I have ever eaten. I need more Iranian food. Just Wow.

Friendly service, unusual and interesting foods full of flavour. A good atmosphere for meeting with friends. Welcoming to children (and dogs) with a selection of toys available during waiting times. Vegan food which is attractive to all, with meat alternatives available.

We stopped here for my wife's birthday hoping to try something new. We were utterly blown away by the quality of the food, service and atmosphere. The food was unlike anything we had ever had. We ordered different dishes to share and were very close to getting more dishes which we would have if we weren't full. The service from the staff was second to none. They couldn't be more pleasant and were always wanting us to be comfortable and happy with our time there. It's well worth trying a smoothie with your food as well. The perfect accompaniment to fantastic food. Will be going again and again for sure.

We are regulars at Baobab - the service, family friendly vibes and wonderfully delicious food cannot be faulted. We highly recommend Baobab and bring all our friends, local and from afar to taste the sensations that Baobab create!

We absolutely love the Baobab and don't come as often as we'd like, but every time we do it's absolutely delicious. Their juices and food are phenomenal, exactly the kind of nutritious food you want that's packed full of flavour - a welcome change to so many cafes that do 'samey' food of pastries and paninis (which are still great, but gets old after a while!). Eran is so warm and friendly and passionate about the food they make. Only moved here a year ago and I'm so lucky to have a place like this on my doorstep.

I hate to write this as we are locals normally love this place, but we just ate here without Eran supervising as he normally would. We had to wait an hour to get our food and drinks and when the food arrived the minced beef was completely raw inside. We had chased up our order several times and takeaways and other customers had come and gone while waiting. We got a refund for the inedible meal, but we are so dissatisfied with the whole experience we normally send the visitors to our air bnb here, but will rethink in case Eran isnt about to keep on top of things. 😫

Absolutely amazing place and Eran greets you like a lost brother. Hospitable and great vibe. There hasn’t been a dish that I haven’t loved. Try it for something different then wonder why it took you so long to find this place

Looked for cafe and quick lunch and found this this place. Good coffee with nice Crèma (but I asked for two shots when only one is standard). Although I'm meat lover I had a veggie lunch (chicken in meaty one wasn't free range) and I it. Tasty, nicely spiced but not spicy, filling for less than £10. Lovely children play corner with lot of toys and books.

Great tasting food prepared with passion. Can't wait to visit again.

Excellent food - succulent tender chicken with delicious Middle Eastern flavours served with two salads - giant couscous with pomegranate tabouleh and tangy Moroccan salad with fennel and red cabbage. Great atmosphere and such friendly service. I will definitely be back!

Amazing breakfast at Baobab before we left to drive onto Cornwall for our family holiday! Coffee was brilliant, catering with all different types of alternative milks. My dad had the shakshuka with merguez, he said it was honestly one of the best cooked breakfasts he’s had! My mum had the Persian style smoothie and I tried some, so fragrant and healthy and delicious! My porridge with homemade hazelnut butter and date honey was filling and perfect, having homemade nut butter honestly makes all the difference and is such a nice touch. Lovely welcoming staff and owner, service was great. I didn’t catch our waitress’ name but she was attentive, friendly and bubbly! Such a lovely start to our holiday thank you so much!

I'm feeling disappointed because l thought l would be making my first visit since lockdown began today but surprisingly the Baobabab Cafe is closed . . . I love this place because the staff are friendly, the food excellent (delicious flavours l haven't found anywhere else, wonderfully fresh salads and veg.). It's perfect for adults and children: the play equipment is good quality and well thought out so adults can relax with the sound of happy children in the background. It feels calm. The perfect place to de stress and enjoy life.

This place sings happiness - welcoming chef/proprietor Eran, a great and enthusiastic young team and excellent Levantine and world grub that sings on the plate.Busy on first day fully open, and deservedly so. Go soon and don't forget to tip generously - every little helps!

Generous portions of wholesome middle eastern food. You are welcomed by the friendly proprietor. Service is cheerful and brisk. A wholesome menu with plenty of variety. You leave the restaurant happy and well fed with nutritious food and a smile on your face.

We were on a short tour of Devon. Sometimes it is difficult as a musician to find healthy food on the road but we landed firmly on our feet. Eran, the host, greeted us very warmly. We each had a different dish and everyone commented for a long time after how good it was. Excellent Arabic/North African music playing too. Really good buzz about the place. :)

Eran's food is always delicious and very unusual, and it is a nice place to just hang out. Very good for kids too.

Cultural cuisine exploring hidden flavours, discovering realms of extraordinary relish. Each day one meat dish and one vegan dish are presented alongside a colourful seasonal salad accompaniment. This is a café that must be visited when you visit Devon, it is certainly a surprise.

My wife and I visited first visited for a light lunch. The owner (and his staff) were incredibly friendly and the food was unusual to some degree but very good. We have since revisited and had another great meal (mainly natural salads). The seating is somewhat tight, but there is a good little area for mums and kiddies.

Brilliant place for families with a section of toys to keep the wee ones occupied when you visit. The staff are amazing and the food is delicious. Recommend! :)

Visited here twice (we liked it so much we came back!) on a Thursday and Saturday morning during the same weekThis is a great little cafe that has a small menu of great, unique freshly cooked food The owner and staff make you feel really welcome - the place has a really nice atmosphere - and for those that want it free WiFi On our first visit we both had the Shakshuka - me with the Moroccan sausage (without if you want the veggie option) - this is an egg dish cooked and served in a tomato sauce served with flat bread - highly recommended and available all dayOn our second visit I had the same dish as before - my better half had the omelette salad / East African breakfast - again highly recommended (see photos)We had our breakfasts with fresh Brazilian coffee (recommended) We really liked it here and would eat here again

Staff were lively and welcoming from the moment we entered to when we left. Food was served quickly, and did not disappoint. We had a shakshukah each, the eggs were perfectly poached and the tomato rich and filling. Enjoyed having such tasty food for a reasonable price. Would definitely recommend.

This cafe has brought a breath of fresh air to Crediton. Middle Eastern food is made freshly everyday with carefully sourced ingredients. They are family friendly, and accomodate everybody's dietry needs where they can. The food has always been wonderful. The occassional evening feasts are plentiful and imaginatively prepared and presented with rustic charm. Very tasty and very healthy. Def worth checking out.

Baobab is my favourite place to visit for delicious food that I honestly think I could eat every day. Eran is a master in the kitchen whose passion for what he does shows in every dish. The atmosphere is one of warmth and friendliness and all the staff go out of their way to make your visit a special one. Whether it’s breakfast, lunch or one of his amazing supper evenings, the food is always scrumptious. I and my family can’t keep away!

We went for lunch. It was 4 o clock and the lady said they weren’t doing any, but maybe they could pull something off for us. She offered some vegetarian fritters with two salads and a green salad. She said they could also do hummus. She asked us to sit down to have a look at the menu, and in the menu they had a few dishes they were cooking all day... we asked if we could ordered some and she said she was already doing us some lunches... well, thanks for letting us choose. It would have been ok if the lunches weren’t absolutely crap. The salads, one was very greasy, and the other very sour. No green salad. The fritter was discussing. It was cold, dry, and it had 2pieces of butternut squash in it. The hummus it was more like a tahini sauce than hummus. Plus when we went to pay it came to almost £30... surely that fritter can’t cost any more than a fiver? It was seriously not good. Also, she should have told us they had some other food for sale. We felt that they just gave us whatever they were going to put in the bin for the day, maybe that’s why they didn’t give us a choice?

Love this place! Friendly and relaxed. Eran definitely knows his food! The food is delicious, I’ve enjoyed every meal I’ve had there and friends I’ve recommended to go have also loved it. Food is very flavoursome and you get a good portion size as well. Well worth giving Baobab a visit, you won’t be disappointed!

I absolutely cannot recommend this little cafe enough. Delicious, healthy food with plenty of options for vegans/vegetarians. All the food is locally sourced and so changes with the seasons. Incredibly friendly staff, and wonderfully divine homemade houmous! Will definitely be coming again.
