Best burger in ages, with meat from the almost-local butcher. Staff very friendly. Good choices for vegetarians. Family friendly - busy at lunch time.

Just off the back of a very poor hotel experience in Dunbar, we aimed for Strawberry Barn Cafe for Sunday morning breakfast. It was excellent. Staff were attentive right from the off even though the place was extremely busy with families and all ages. There was a real positive buzz about the place. The food was very good both in terms of choices and in terms of what we presented on the plate. And bonus points for not hiding the vegan options on a separate menu ;-) (Note: there are TripAdvisor sites for 'Belhaven Fruit Farm' and 'The Store at Belhaven' - confusing, but the latter, is I think, the Strawberry Barn Cafe)

I've been to this place many times over the years and was surprised how much it had deteriorated since my last visit. Weird menu and food poorly prepared. I ordered the caesar salad and it took some time to arrive. I had to search to find some of the traditional ingredients of such a salad, and later in the day my digestive system told me it wasn't the best choice. I'll spare you the details, just say I'll not be back. Servers were fine, young people doing their best to bluff their way through in obviously difficult workplace.

We attended the Strawberry Barn xmas party night in December 2021. Found the food to be nice, great vegeterian choices, good bar and a good layout (unless you were by the speakers!) The night was spoilt by the music being way too loud, dont get me wrong we all like loud music but this was uncomfortably loud. We couldnt even hear ourselves speak when we sat down, plus we couldnt even dance as the music was very much geared at the younger generation. For a party night were mixed ages are in attendance everybody should be catered for and the music a reasonable comfortable volume.

Confusing entrance with no-entry signs in all directions. Bottleneck with a single door into the Cafe/Shop, convoluted queuing system and wearing masks to order and pay, then back outside to get the food and you need to remember an order number. Simple, cheap, restricted choices, but tasty food and good coffee, so very happy with this aspect. We didn't see any outside tables getting cleaned but the rain came on and forced us to leave all too soon. So a kind of takeaway service with a "use at your own risk" tables and chairs, could be better organised. The barn seems to be open for indoor eating, but not on the day we went.

I have visited this venue several times and the indoor seating area is dark and rather cold - I prefer to sit outdoors when the weather permits. The service can be be quite slow at times and the food can be hit or miss. I think it is an expensive place to eat - I do, however, like the range of frozen meals which they stock and quite willing to pay more than usual for a ready meal.

Great for the kids, big play area outside also a smaller area inside the cafe with toys which my kid loves. The food is delicious, mouth watering cakes. Quick service, and staff are very friendly. Brilliant shop with a good selection of local and scottish gins. Toilets are basic. I would highly recommend for lunch, we stop regularly here when travelling, as it's right off the A1.

My Daughter, and Grandson, invited us up for the Saturday, at their Caravan pitched in Bellhaven Caravan Park, in Dunbar. She mentioned "The Store", as a great place for Lunch. She wasn't kidding. I give this establishment a "5 Star" rating, not because the food is the best in Scotland, but because the overall experience, between the Restaurant, and the store areas within, makes it a very special place to visit. For Lunch, you're seated, then go up to the counter to order from the extensive menus on large chalkboards on the walls. My Daughter, and her Mom, had the "Croque Monsieur", which came with Salad Leaves, a Beetroot Coleslaw, and Potato Wedges. I had the "Steak Sandwich, also served with those same sides. Those Wedges were FANTASTIC!! Piping hot, skin on and creamy inside. The Beetroot Slaw was delicious, and from what I saw, those "Croque Monsieurs", were stuffed with Ham and Cheese, topped with loads more Cheese, and neither of them finished more than half, they were so generously portioned. At around £8.95 each plate, WELL worth it, and reportedly delicious as you like. My Steak Sandwich was loaded with 2" strips of Steak, with Lettuce and Tomato, and lots of lovely Caramelised Onions. Served on a toasted mini-Baguette Roll. Very nice indeed. I couldn't have possibly had room for my usual Mocha afters, and as for any thoughts of Dessert, not a chance, I was stuffed! There were, by the way, lots of beautiful homebaked goods on offer, for desserts, but I certainly couldn't partake after that more than satisfying Lunch. Afterwards, we went into the stores areas where there are many, many highly unusual condiments, and various craft items available on display. There are Chutneys, exotic Ketchups, Sauces of every description. There are what, 5 or 6 huge freezers and Chill Fridges PACKED with homemade artisan Savoury Pies, Meals like 3 Bean Chili Con Carne, Cottage and Steak and Fish Pies, Giant Quiches, Spaghette Bolonese etc. Each one looked more delectable than the last! There were Jams, Pickles, Preserves of every description, it was genuinely an Aladdin's Cave of foodstuffs. In a small side room, were unique boutique Spirits like Gins, and Scotch Whiskeys, Vodkas and wines too numerous to count, and never seen as magnificently displayed by me in any other place. I was completely mesmerised by the selection, uniqueness, and choice on offer throughout this "Store". Take my advice, if you're visiting Dunbar, COME HERE, I 100% guarantee, you will be totally impressed, and satisfied by the time you leave. Such a wonderful place to top-off a lovely coastal Town visit. P.S. The Breakfast Menu looked AWESOME!!

Easy place to stop off on the A1. Plenty of parking available and a play area outside if visiting with children. Food is overall very good. Starter of celeriac and apple soup was lovely. Regular beef burger was great but the beetroot and think it was halloumi cheese wasn't nice. No particular taste to it apart from a used oil aftertaste. The potato wedges etc that came with it were tasty though. Lovely piece of cake to take away. The shop area has so many interesting things in it that I could have bought everything. Been several times now and no doubt will be back again.

Stopped by the Store for a couple takeaway sandwiches which for some reason took 20 mins to prepare despite the restaurant being half empty. For £6 a sandwich we were expecting something decent, the descriptions on the menu certainly suggested so. What I got was a half grilled cheese toasty with a few bits of cucumber and red pepper ("massala spiced green veg") and where was the famous chutney?? My partner got a stale roll with ingredients missing and to be honest was on a par with a petrol station sandwich. We would have been much more satisfied going to Subway. It really irritates me that places like this think they can charge a fortune for rubbish. Never going back.

Had been looking forward to a lunch visit after hearing good reviews. Very busy on arrival. Ordered our food, starters and mains were brought together! We had to eat mains first as it was a steak and ask for the starters to be kept warm. No apology from a very unfriendly and rude staff member. Food was actually nice apart from the dijon mustard being missing from the steak which made it quite dry. When we asked the waitress about the mustard we were told it should be on the steak but she didnt offer to get any.

Visited the Store in January this year and thought it average. Sadly, this time, it has slipped further. Family ordered full breakfasts and one bacon roll. Though these arrived together, the bacon roll was stone cold and was replaced - unfortunately after everyone else had finished their meal. Coffee was again lukewarm and tasted a bit 'stewed'. First time experiencing the outdoor play area and did feel concerned at the rather dilapidated state of the equipment. I am sure it has to be tested for H & S and insurances purposes but I would question it's overall maintenance standard. Skelf heaven!

No kerb appeal here but once inside there is definite potential. The cafe area is welcoming and the food fair, however the coffee was only warm and the condiment with the toast was mundane. However the food was delicious, and we were told we could have a free drink and dessert/ cake as we had had to wait for so long. I had the steak sandwich, which came with salad, coleslaw and chunky chips. It was worth waiting for ( unlike a steak sandwich I had had the previous week at another local cafe!). I had another coffee as I had drunk my first one whilst waiting for our food, but did not have to pay. We couldn't manage a free cake as we were stuffed after our lunch. The food is surprisingly imaginative and there is an excellent variety both for kids and adults and the menu changes regularly and the food is excellent value. Good coffee. There is a great playground outside and a little play area in the corner for youngsters inside. The only reason I haven't given it 5 stars is because on a couple of occasions our order has been mixed up or we have had to wait for one of the meals - which seems to happen too frequently here. ...I can't hear what you're saying". Food was good, but the noise level supplied almost entirely by the staff was akin to a runway at Heathrow. Constant banging of the coffee grinds from their machine, followed by screaming steam expelled as they make a coffee was competitive with a 747 level. This was only outdone by staff wiping down flatware and throwing it into a container for nearly 20 minutes at the front counter. Sadly, we could not have a conversation, no relaxation, and we had to leave. The management were oblivious to this, even though they were sitting just a few feet away. We have eaten here a number of times, but it has gotten consistently worse in my opinion. Perhaps the feeling that they are safely established they can ignore customer service. Clearly they think that this is acceptable and a place that people will want to come. That is not the case for us as this is not a place I would recommend, and we will not be returning. There are many other lovely establishments on Dunbar High Street which will be getting The Store's lost custom. I hope that you find this helpful.

Popped in for a coffee as was passing and it looked interesting. Great deli, grocery store with home store and play park. Ordered a coffee and sat outside in the sun awaiting its arrival. Had been given a table number on a stick in order to identify who the coffee was for. I laid this on the otherwise empty table. However, the same girl who took my order (5 minutes prior) walked around the neighbouring tables (4 tables were occupied) asking who ordered a coffee. The other tables already had drinks and food in their tables, only mine was empty. I was ignored. When the waitress was about to go back inside with the coffee, I informed her that I was waiting on a coffee. She deposited the said coffee, picked up the numbered stick and stuck it with great gusto into a flower pot that was on the table. Without a word she walked off. I thanked her, but got no response. The table next to me, having witnessed the stroppy waitress who was obviously not impressed by my inability to stick the number in the plant pot, went on the discuss how rude she had been to them when they ordered as they hadn't picked a table yet. How a simple cup of coffee in the sunshine be ruined by poor service. I won't be returning or recommending this place to my friends or family in case they have the misfortune of having the same waitress serve them.

Nice place, with friendly staff and spacious layout. Great menu! We have visited a few times and each time there has been lots of lovely things on the menu, with a choice of three soups! Also definitely the best coffee served in Dunbar, however it can be a bit cold to sit in for a while. Not a big fan of the system of paying before you receive your order, I understand why they do this however it can be a pain when you want additional drinks/cakes. Still a great find!

Nice place and welcoming, food is always good and staff friendly. Kids can play in the inside play area which is quite small but would keep under 5s amused and because its small you don't feel you are overrun by children or there is a nice outside area to sit in when the weather is good. The shop is well worth a browse expensive but good quality.

I went to The Store with friends for afternoon tea. I had a cappuccino and a cherry chocolate cake - which was lovely, but quite sweet. The staff were friendly and accommodating, even though it was late in the day and they were getting ready for closing. There is a great range of gourmet produce for sale, including enormous scrumptious looking meringues I didn't see until my way out! ...

We went there for morning coffee which, although it was October, we had sitting outside. It is nice and sheltered, and I enjoyed being beside the main east coast railway line! The children enjoyed playing with seesaws, climbing frames etc. We looked at the "pick your own fruit" area but the strawberries were finished (the season had passed) and we didn't want gooseberries or brambles. It was such an excellent place that we decided to stay for lunch. This was a very good decision since lunch was very good. We chose to have lunch inside. The Store All Day Breakfast was tremendous - great sausages and black pudding - it was all good! It came with tea or coffee and was good value too. The soup and sandwich combo was also good value and top quality ingredients. We couldn't resist the "serve yourselves" ice creams - you got a tub which you filled yourself with raspberry or strawberry sorbet made from their own fruit. You could add fresh fruit, Smarties or other goodies on top. The shop is also excellent with lots of interesting produce and products that you don't get in supermarkets or other such shops. A real joy to get some jams and other products of homemade quality.

Like a previous reviewer, we almost missed this place. It had been recommended by friends and it does look a bit like a Cash & Carry warehouse and is not easy to spot on the far side of the roundabout. However, we were pleased we did find it eventually as we had a delicious lunch. The service was excellent and the toilets immaculate. There is a good range of produce in the shop and a good outdoor area for good weather.

The Store is tucked away off the Thistly Cross roundabout on the A1 near Dunbar. It's easy to miss and I'd driven past so many times without going in as I was slightly put off by the metal warehouse exterior, I'd assumed it was a Cash and Carry! I'm very glad I eventually checked them out. So far I have only bought produce from the shop. I live close by so intend to go back to try the cafe soon. The stock is predominately made up of 'Cook' frozen meals and desserts which are great, if a little pricey. They also sell some local produce and other deli items including dried pasta, olives, jams and chutneys. Also on site is a little homewares 'shed' selling bits and pieces for the home and of course the Belhaven Fruit Farm. There's certainly a lot on offer here and you could easily while away an afternoon quite happily trying everything out!

Stopped in on our way home from Dunbar. The food was really lovely and the service was great.Once we finished with lunch, we picked some strawberries to take home with us. We also made use of the self-serve "Icedelights" (I think that's what they were called).

Lovely farm shop serving up tasty food. Ice cream is as good as I've tasted. Shop serves a wide range of food and the pick your own fruits idea is a great thing to do with the kids. Can't recommend this enough. Stayed in Dunbar for two nights and visited this both days.

Lots of friends have been recommending this cafe to me, but I have never really liked the look at it from the road so have never gone....How wrong can you be!! Finally went for lunch last week and what a brilliant place this is!! The food, coffee, ice cream and service in the cafe was fab (and reasonably priced), the children loved the playground and the toilets were clean! The shop stocks wonderful, good quality produce and it is very easy to spend a lot of money there. I will definitely be back very soon.

I've written this review on the 'Belhaven Fruit Farm' listing as well as here as they are both for the same place. We drive from Edinburgh for the all day breakfasts here as they are so good with really good quality sausages and bacon from local sources and black pudding from Stornoway. It's sometimes difficult to get a table as it can become very busy but worth a wait. The rest of the food is good too, particularly the red pepper tart. We've done the monthly supper club once before and really enjoyed it - there were six tasting menu courses (the courses were much bigger than I was expecting) and the chef came around each table at the end to ask how we enjoyed the meal. The bookings can fill up months in advance so we keep an eye out for cancellations, We go fairly regularly during the summer picking season to get strawberries and blackcurrants - the strawberries are beautiful. The price is slightly more than what you'd pay for a supermarket punnet but the flavour is so much better. The shop sells a wide range of interesting things, from flavoured meringues, smoked garlic, Thistly Cross cider and unusual cordial to the 'Cook' range of meals. It would be very easy to spend a lot of money in there!Very highly recommended.

This place is awesome! Why can't all roadside cafes be like this?! I highly recommend the fish pie that's loaded with fresh prawns. And the prices are brilliant!

I've only recently discovered this place and had kind of been put off because of the exterior warehouse look. It couldn't have been any different after stepping inside. OMG! Its amazing. It has a nice cosy, rustic, country atmosphere. The service in the cafe is lovely, they work off their own initiative and seem to go a bit further that you might expect (a rare treat in Dunbar). They have an adjoining store that sells top of the range pastas, juices, jams, frozen meals etc, the woman who serves in here could be a bit more approachable/friendlier. I bought a ready meal out the freezer of macaroni cheese, it was well worth it! First time I went I just had a coffee, second time I had carrot and coriander soup that was served with a big chunk of bread and giant home-made croutons. I cant fault it, but personally I thought it was over seasoned with too many cumin seeds. I will hopefully try a different flavour next time and at some point I will try one of their amazing looking cakes. Keep up the good work, we need places like you.

We have been to the Store a couple of times now, it is ideal for some tasty hearty food, with a good selection of cakes and a good play area for kids. My son Is 4 and loves the park and on the rare occasion we get some sunshine then it's nice to sit outside.

We visit The Store on a regular basis, mostly for light lunches, but also on a monthly basis for the supper club, which we have been attending since it's inception. It is great to taste a variety of different dishes, for a very reasonable price. Sandy and Trish and all the staff are friendly and welcoming, and the food is always fresh and very enjoyable. We also use the shop regularly and like the selection of different types of food on offer - particularly the lemon curd & Prosecco! I

We visit the store regularly for coffee and breakfasts. The quality of food and service is excellent and in a great relaxed surroundings. We decided to try the monthly supper club (last Friday of every month). This was great value for money. Cocktail, 6 courses and coffee for £28 each and byob. Each course was delicious, varied and well presented with local ingredients. Staff were knowledgeable and talked us through each course. The pace of service was relaxed, which we prefer. Overall an excellent evening and we'll be back for supper club again. I only wish it was on more often.

Went for our first experience of the Store's monthly supper club last night. The food was lovely (all 6 courses for £28!), the staff extremely friendly and relaxed, often stopping by the table and chatting about stuff (in a very welcomed way). I'd really recommend anyone looking for a great value dining experience without all the pompousness you can get in the city centre...have booked next month already!

Stumbled across this little gem when going on a Sunday Drive around East Lothian. We thought that it was just a farm shop but it's a restaurant as well. It does really nice Angus burgers and potato wedges and salad. We all got an IceDelight which was delish. I got strawberry and banana, my girlfriend got passion fruit and redberry and the kids got blackberry and strawberry, which they thouroughly enjoyed. The toilets are also very clean with nice foam soap and warm water and a hand dryer. The kids enjoyed the climbing frame and the slide thingy.

Living locally, we don't want to sound biased, but The Store at Belhaven is the best thing to happen to East Lothian in years. It's hard to know where to start. The staff are friendly, warm and informative, The food is sensational, as were the tea and coffee. Outdoors, there's a great seating area for warmer days. The other jewel in the crown is the shop. Again, brilliant staff and the best service. So much choice of beautiful food, a lot of it locally sourced. The freezer section is amazing, full to brimming with 'Cook' ready- meals, hearty, home-cooked meals that require no more than popping in the microwave or oven. It's a long time since I've been somewhere that the staff are 'genuinely interested' in their customers. These people are, and how refreshing that is. Well worth a visit.

Literally just got up and walked out after reading the menu prices. We were here last summer for lunch, had one of the best bowls of Cullen skink soup to date, came back specifically for that today as in the area, only to find that for one bowl of soup as a starter was £9.95 or for a large bowl of the same is now priced at £15.95! FOR A BOWL OF SOUP! I know it’s a tourist hotspot, but take off your Dick Turpin masks No 12!!
