The Loft Cafe & Bakery in East Lothian

We stopped for a slice of Apricot and Almond cake and it was, without a doubt, absolutely delicious! Lovely cafe, dog friendly, staff very pleasant and friendly. We had a Cappucino and a Hot Chocolate along with our cake. The Hot Chocolate however, tasted quite "weak" & lacking in a true chocolate flavour.

We had a lovely lunch here, Easter weekend. We both had the ploughman's with courgette & dill soup which was delicious. As it was such a lovely lunch it would have been rude not to sample the home made cakes. Again delicious and served by very friendly staff. I had done my homework to find this café as we took our 2 dogs with us. Only slight downside was that when it was full and busy it seemed a little noisy, echoing with the tall ceiling. Plus it was not well advertised outside so didn't find it straight away but it was worth hunting down. Highly recommend this venue for good wholesome food, excellent service and not over priced. Thank you to all staff at The Loft Café.

Best cafe in Haddington by a distance. Food is amazing. I had a ploughmans for lunch and it was the best ive ever eaten. Their cappucino was great as well. Highly recommended. 10 out of 10.

Lovely coffee place - although they also serve some lunches. Had a cappuccino and some cake and both were really good. Service is very friendly and the atmosphere is nice and cosy. Would recommend!

Useful stopping place for a quick bite to eat and a cup of coffee. Perhaps not the most reasonably-priced cafe ... and it can get fairly busy (and NOISY!) at times, but the food is good and it's a warm place to take the weight of your feet for a while!

Amazing cafe with friendly staff and great food for breakfast or a light lunch. Coffee is fantastic and hot too. Can't recommend enough. Child and pet friendly too.

We wish we could award more than 5 stars for this amazing dog and human friendly cafe. Fantastic tasty food at really reasonable prices in a lovely atmosphere. However without doubt the main asset of this wonderful cafe is its welcoming friendly and helpful staff - without exception every member of staff are exceptional making you feel welcome and special We visited with friends and we had six 6 dogs in total and we all made sooooooo welcome Thank you to all concerned

Pleasant place to eat, with a adequate menu. The only issue I have with this place is when you order a link sausages on a roll, you get 3 half sausages Full breakfast (£11.95) a bit on the expensive side for what you get on the plate, not to mention rather boring.

The Loft has an extensive and well priced menu, and the staff are more than happy to accommodate any dietary requirements, my family and I have never been disappointed eating here. Additionally they have a small takeaway shop which is a life saver when you just want to grab a quick coffee or lunch on the go.

Stovies were chunks of undercooked potato with chunky cheep beef floating in a stock cube broth. It was disgusting. I was told it was the way local people make it. I'm local, and I have certainly never saw stovies prepared like this. At the till I was told, not asked, to add on my tip when entering my card. I declined.

Baked Potato was dry, undercooked with chucks and needed butter, not enough filling either for the potato. I think it was over £7? Salad needed dressing. It just all looked bland to me and unappealing, i was sick from it afterwards and i felt i really wasted money. Service needs to be more organised, customers need to know what’s happening and if there’s delays etc you need to say. I seen a lot of tables waiting for a long time to be served too, waitresses running about the place. Simple communication like “i’ll be with you in just a second” to avoid customers feeling ignored and always acknowledging customers when they’re waiting to be seated instead of just walking away. Checking back on tables to make sure everything is okay with the food. Small improvements of basic communication like that can be made to make the service much better.

Lovely lunch out, freshly produced food and the best coffee I have had for a while (Brazilian blend I believe). Place was really busy but staff still running round with smiles on there faces, which made for a pleasant visit.

Great discovery, stumbled across it whilst driving through. Deceiving, outside tables but large number upstairs. Very popular on our visit - just had coffee (good) but food and bakery looked great.. wish not on diet! Will certainly visit again when next in area. Second visit for lunch- excellent, pancakes for me, jacket potato for my wife. Very good choice available. Drove 15 miles for it, well worth it. Great staff and atmosphere.

Lovely hidden gem in Haddington, we met friends here and the service was great, the staff very accommodating as we had out 6 month old daughter with us and although we only had coffee and cake, it was great. The food going out from the kitchen looked amazing, was quite tempted to have a breakfast instead of my scone! Would highly recommend if you are out and about in Haddington.

Great place restfull coutside lovely to. Good food l am a coeliac and they had tasty choices of cake to have with your coffee l meet with friends once a month there and it's consistently good sx

Friendly and efficient service Scone of the day was excellent

The staff were very friendly and helpful even amidst the hustle and bustle of the lunch rush. The silverware was a touch spotty however but that's the only improvement to the experience I could share.

Honestly one of the best cafe bakeries I've ever been to, every new cake/brownie I try is amazing, I would come back to Haddington just to visit The Loft! Also very dog friendly for take away and sitting in. Highly recommend!

Excellent service and very friendly staff in this unique cafe in the centre of Haddington. Lovely setting and the sunshine meant that sitting in the courtyard was very pleasant.

Always bustling and the coffee is great!

We had brunch and lunch here on separate occasions. The pancakes were fantastic, cooked breakfast and avocado on toast were also delicious. Lovely service and great value.

Lovely roomy restraunt, indoor seating located upstairs and outdoor dining in the courtyard. Service was friendly and fast. I had the vegetarian breakfast which was delicious - all that was needed to be perfect would be some baked beans 😋 Coffees also very tasty. If we had been local, we would be back again regularly! Great spot, would reccomend.

Great service, delicious food and well worth a visit. Its really very special.

I’ll preface this review by saying that I’ve been to the Loft many times before and never had a problem with gluten free food however I came in for brunch and ordered a gluten free bacon roll and gluten free carrot cake (server went to kitchen to check) and server said it was gluten free when it was served however a few hours later I began to feel very unwell and subsequently been very sick and faint. I did not eat anything before or since brunch at the Loft. I phoned the Loft and spoke to the manager, who whilst being apologetic and did take details about order etc did not offer any compensation or refund and did say they couldn’t say it was definitely them who had ‘glutened’ me, again I pointed out that this was the only place I had eaten so there was no other way I could’ve had a reaction. The manager did take my name & telephone number to get back to me on but unfortunately very disappointed about how it’s been handled and won’t be returning and have now lost confidence in ordering at the Loft.

Realy good food. (We had the Sausage roll & mull cheddar toasty tea & coffee, & bacon roll) Service was excellent. The waitress was especially considerate to the 10 year old in our party, she took time to ensure that he got exactly what he wanted, - as she did for the rest of the party. Good balance of traditional & moden both in the 'interior design', and the menu. I recommend The Loft.

A really nice place to have lunch, the outdoor area in particular is really nice on a warm day and the food was good.

The Loft was recommended and I'm so glad that we went. Such a lovely, rustic place, with a really nice atmosphere. We recieved a very friendly welcome and we're seated right away. The girl who served us was friendly and helpful and took our order as soon as we were ready. The drinks came quickly and didn't take long for the food. We both had the ploughman's, which was just beautiful. Large portions, with top quality food. The home baked ham was delicious, as was the sweet chutney. The oatcakes were homemade and so delicious. When we left we took home s couple of cakes too, as the bakery was irresistible! We'll definitely be back!

Nice place, BUT the WiFi NEVER works. I have this feedback to the owner years ago, but nothing has changed on my most recent visit. Mediocre veggie and poached egg breakfast roll.

Love this place and usually nip in on a morning for a scone. I began to notice that I always fell ill in the afternoons after eating a morning scone (feeling very sick, upset tummy and thirst). Today's scone had so much baking powder I could barely eat it. I think I may have a slight intolerance to baking powder and only realised after taking ill again after today's scone. Can the baking powder be cut down please 🙏 😩

A delightful cafe and bakery with light airy dining upstairs and also seating outside in a pretty courtyard. They also do takeaways. They have an extensive breakfast and lunch menu and staff are friendly and attentive. We had breakfast here 2 days running, dining on pancakes with bacon and maple syrup and scrambled eggs with bacon and toast the first day and the Full Loft breakfast the second. Everything was delicious and we plan to return again before we leave!

Found this café after stopping in Haddington as a pit stop for lunch on our journey south. What a lovely café. The lady who welcomed us seemed genuinely pleased to see us! The food was great - we each had meals that we enjoyed, coffee was great. My husband wanted a slightly different combination for his jacket potato that wasn't on the menu and it was no problem. Staff were great. Lovely area to sit outside but we sat upstairs which was spacious and airy with local artwork. A real joy to visit and we will definitely return when next in the area.

Regular customers because this is a lovely cafe. Staff very welcoming, friendly and nothing is too much for them. Food is excellent from coffees,to cakes/tray bakes to full lunches. After staying a couple of nights at The Bus Stop near Gifford, on the morning of check out we decided to visit the Loft Cafe for brunch. We had looked at it before,but never actually been. Really impressed with the style and atmosphere, also the service by the team was fantastic. A great selection of breakfast, brunch and lunch items, both from the menu and specials board. A really nice and also well presented flat white. There was also a really good selection of local produce, gifts and other goodies. Definitely somewhere we'll be back. Make sure you check out their little bakery across the square. Thank you to the team for accommodating us all as there was a group of 7 turning up on a busy Bank Holiday morning.

Passed this coffee shop lots of time but first time we had dropped in. Our experience was excellent and will definitely go back.

What a lovely cafe. Nice staff and plenty of tables in an attractive loft setting. A decent selection of cakes and light lunches. The Warm Spelt Salad was delicious and my son’s portion of sausage roll was huge! Also, the coffee was really good.

It was okay, you get barked at uf u miss the sign to wait to be seated, Avocado smashed toast was rock solid, sorry dont like your coffee, I think the oat milk may habe been off. Will try again, see if its a one off.

A bit of a hidden gem! The staff were friendly and helpful and the Victoria sponge was excellent! We sat upstairs which was lovely, bright and spacious. Also dog-friendly. They also have outdoor seating available.

The team made us feel very welcome and we had a lovely lunch here. It does get a little bit noisy inside when busy, but about what one may expect. Will visit again.

Little gem of a place, nestled in the centre of Haddington

We visited here 3yrs ago on holiday and it was superb. On the strength of that it was a must to return again & from some distance away.. Unfortunately it was most disappointing. The food was average, cutlery had to be requested & my food was meanwhile cooling down as we had to wait. Staff seemed uncoordinated & rushed as if we were on a conveyor belt. Next time we’ll elsewhere I’m sorry to say..

Always a pleasure coming here. Staff are lovely, good selection of different teas. Cakes are delicious and there is something for everyone on their menu. Everything I've had tastes delicious. Love this place.

Nice place but expensive food for portion size. Met up with friends here , ordered the 'best toasty ever ' at £8 , it was tiny. Yes it was tasty but still! It's nice place to sit but there are other places that aren't so over priced.

Don't go to this place. There is often a small queue to get a table. If you start going, I may have to queue a bit longer!🤣🤣 Brilliant place for lunch. Great menu, great staff and lovely ambience.

Great space, comfortable. Food is good though pricey and tea pots too small. But only visit if not in a hurry, service is laughably slow... stood at the 'wait to be seated' sign for nearly 10 minutes without even being acknowledged by staff (despite there being 5 members milling about). Didn't get much better once seated.

This is my favourite cafe in East Lothian! The servers are so friendly and attentive and the food, cakes and coffee are great. The takeaway shop during the week has great rolls, salad boxes and hot food too.

Visited here for a lunch after a walk around the area. A very warm welcome by staff and only had a short wait due to how busy it was (a good sign that it is good). Opted for the “best toastie in the world” and I have to admit, it was delicious. I also had the hot chocolate which is made with real chocolate and was awesome. Finished off lunch with a bit of the Bakewell which is the best I’ve had and you also get a massive slice. Fantastic cafe which I highly recommend.

Have visited The Loft on a few occasions mostly for breakfast. Staff are courteous, well mannered and extremely helpful. Breakfast arrived promptly and was excellent, maybe a bit more expensive than some other places but the quality justifies the price. I have had lunch on...

Called in recently but was left queuing and not acknowledged so left quite promptly to try somewhere else in Haddington ! Very disappointed and feel that some staff training in customer service would be helpful !

Went for breakfast this morning and we could appreciate it was a very busy day for them but even making allowances for that they still royally messed up. After waiting 40 mins for the food to arrive to the table they missed my breakfast order...

Great food, limited breakfasts though (and finish too early imho). Cakes were nice though and good vibe. They can get a bit sharp at busier times as they keep people moving and turning round tables but I guess that's to be expected for a business to maintain profitability. Well worth a visit if you haven't been.

Really nice place, if a little noisy due to the high ceiling. However, this is cancelled out as the food was delicious, especially the scones. Good service from very pleasant staff.

Food: excellent. Home made bread is delicious and I could easily have had a second bacon roll. Interesting selection of local(ish) produce and art.

This is a lovely building with great seating inside and out. There is a good menu with excellent breads. They also cater for vegans with lovely vegan sausages and haggis options. Very good customer service. Very dog friendly.

Nice menu, lots of choice and well prepared food. Access via lift for less mobile customers. Food was lovely. It was lunch time, so it was busy and noisy but overall a positive experience. Order was taken promptly and staff were courteous.

I phoned to ask if I needed to book a table for 2 & was told there was no need, there should be plenty tables. I arrived & waited behind the sign to be seated. The lady in front had been waiting a while. She was then approached by a waitress who went off to look for a table for her. The waitress never came back. The lady offered to sit outside at a table but nobody listened to her hence she left in disgust. I waited & then decided to look in case my friend was already there & noticed there were plenty free tables. I asked if I could sit at one (not reserved as you couldn't reserve them) but was told no, I had to wait specifically behind the sign while they looked for a table?!? My friend arrived & we then waited & waited until the waitress came back to say they had found a table & we would have to wait until they cleared & cleaned it?!? All in all I waited over 25mins to be given a table. That was why I wanted to book - to avoid all this. We found the waitresses to be grumpy & not particularly welcoming even though it wasn't over-busy. I probably won't be back.

Visited because it featured on “Coffee Lovers Scotland” app. However we were told that they were too busy to serve takeout coffee. The place is focused on food and coffee a poor second.

My first experience of eating Haggis! First day in Scotland and we went for an early morning breakfast. They did not have Haggis but they specially got some for us from butchers. Very welcoming place!

I recently dropped in to the Loft Cafe on my way to the Edinburgh Festival. It has been some years since i've been in Scotland (Covid etc) and I was anxious to see whether the Loft was still as good as I remembered - It...

Stopped here a couple of times now. Very good quality breakfast and excellent coffee. Extremely cheerful staff. Nice to sit outside in the sheltered courtyard on a sunny day. I expect it'll be really busy at certain times but worth the wait I'd say.

Having waited over 15 minutes for 2 cappucinos, we were served ordinary coffees. We had to remind the staff of our order which then eventually appeared. Obviously they are short staffed. Such a shame as we have enjoyed good service in the past, but won't be coming back again.
