Nice little hídden gem, its a shame that the prices are a little higher than average and it does take a while to get your food (even on a non busy morning) but staff is great, nice environment and food tastes good too.

Staying in one of the self catering cottages in Cockenzie House was amazing! The cafe Fille had great food and the dog was allowed in, which was a huge plus. The House is filled with small businesses with so many goodies to peruse. Once a month there is a retro and vintage fair in the grounds and we were lucky enough to visit on the right weekend. There are also concerts, ABBA cadabra were brilliant, an amazing evening!

We went to the doggie day out which was excellent and then for lunch at the cafe called the Filly which I have been to many times for a coffee. Unfortunately this visit was a disaster as they forgot our order. I reminded them but by then my wife had left. I was then charged 31 pounds for 2 coffees and a cafe, plus a sandwich which I had takeaway. To be fair they were very busy. What a shame.

Incoming customers “Stand here to be seated ‘ at the very same place where the outgoing customers pay before leaving that way you cannot be seen.Eventually had to ask a waitress to be seated but was told to wait as she was busy .Four staff serving the tables with nobody in overall charge .Eventually we were shown a seat but our invisible cloak saved us from any waiter or waitress taking our order. The salt was really rubbed in when customers arriving after us were served first .👎😱👎 We stood up and left but our invisible cloak meant we could escape from the cafe without being seen !, If your social life is too busy and you want to waste some time and be ignored then visit this cafe .

My wife and I along with two elderly friends in their nineties, visited the Vintage bric-a-brac sale in the grounds of Cockenzie House today and were looking forward to teas, coffees and cakes at the excellent Filly Cafe on site. We arrived at the cafe at 3.40 p.m. and found that table service stopped at 3.30 p.m. but we could have take away. We returned to the garden with our purchases, which we enjoyed in the sunshine. However, come 4.00 p.m. when one of our friends returned to the house to use the toilet, there was no access and a cleaner suggested she try the British Legion club near bye. I am sure these notes will be useful for anyone intending to visit Cockenzie House, East Lothian.

We took my dad here for lunch for his birthday since his dog was allowed in and the grounds are lovely. If a menu was available to view in advance, I would have gone elsewhere. It's basically sandwiches or baked potatoes with nice fillings and salad etc but it should be nice for £10 each. It's a small lunch menu and lots of the more substantial things weren't available - both pies, the salmon and the kid's burger. They should really have put on a 'special' additional dish to compensate for this. We probably won't go back.

Great place to visit for a takeaway coffee or to sit in. Lovely lunch items available. A good range of coffee options on offer along with scones. Definitely give the bacon and maple syrup scones a go. Edit: have since revisited as now taken over by Cafe Filly. The service was friendly, lots to choose from on the brunch menu. I felt it was a little expensive. We had cheese scone and fried eggs and smashed avocado on sour dough toast (£10). The avocado was well seasoned but was sliced. Not a problem for me but I know some will only eat it mashed. The coffee was nice. The atmosphere and decor was nice but it was a little cold in the room. I will return to see what the rest of their menu is like.

We were a visiting group of 2 couples lucky enough to find this cafe on our 1st morning in Scotland, how fortunate we were. We only availed of breakfast but what a start to each day this place provided. The breakfast options range from healthy to not quite so healthy, the food is beautifully presented, cooked to perfection and served by the friendliest staff you could possibly meet. The cafe was busy on each of the 4 days that we ate there, the staff were super efficient, fun and added to the eating experience. The fact that the cafe is located on the 1st floor and extensively glazed giving a view of the pretty gardens is the final plus.

I visit the north berwick store regulary. Unfortunately the young girls have messed up my orders on a few occasions now but everytime I have left it as they are perfectly pleasant. I ordered three chocolate croissants the other week and they then tell me after i’ve paid they don’t have any so gave me the plain instead with no refund for the difference. I left this as I was too bothered. I was in yesterday… Placed a large order with one of the young girls again and ordered and paid for a lady loaf to take away also. She never gave me an order number or a receipt Unfortunately and the girl forgot to give me the lady loaf too. I was so busy dealing with my kids who were unwell that i left after we had finished the food and drinks and didn't realise until i got home that she hadn’t given me the loaf. I immediately contacted and then spoke to the owner who was extremely unhelpful, absolutely ridiculous suggesting it needed to go through some sort of process when i had indeed essentially been defrauded. The owner sent a email to the staff to tell them not to just give me the loaf… they showed me the email which was lengthy and to be quite frank.. ridiculous . The staff today were embarrassed to have to not give me the loaf as they know I am always in and always pay. Thier owner specifically went out her way and spent time on sending them an email instructing them not to hand one to me. Customer relations are non existent here and in fact antagonistic. I drove all the way back over in the morning… Honestly expected it to be easily resolved with them giving me the loaf they owed me today but instead was faced with having to call the owner who was completely unhelpful and a pain. I am most disappointed with the owners attitude as I have spent thousands here over the years and due to the stinking attitude from the owner I will definitely never be returning to the store. *she as indeed now discovered she was in the wrong after all the needless hassle she caused me.
