Great food, quick service, quiet atmosphere

All the staff are amazing, nothing was too much trouble.

We've been before and it's always been a good experience. This time it was exceptional, as it was St Valentine's night, the eating area had been laid out with table cloths and every table had a rose placed on it, which made for an atmosphere befitting this special evening. The food and service where as usual excellent.

They weren’t taking walk ins due to only having one chef due to unforeseen circumstances which is completely understandable, however a waitress with light brown hair and glasses stormed up to us and very rudely with an attitude said to us ‘well have you booked with us we aren’t taking walk ins’. My great grandmother was very taken a back and upset. We asked why and she was extremely blunt and rude to us, We come here quite often but we definitely won’t be returning , absolutely terrible customer service. Would leave 0 stars if I could! Just replying to your reply, my problem isn’t with the not being able to sit in and order food, bereavement is completely understandable and can’t be helped you’re right. It’s the manner in which we were spoken to and told about it.

Food was beautiful, service was very good, atmosphere was brilliant. Only complaint is that the salt in the salt pot was slightly damp so wouldn't come out of the shaker.

We visited quite a few times. Unfortunately on this occasion the food was not to its usual standard. The food didn't seem to be freshly cooked. Maybe it had been kept warm for a while?

3 of us had a meal in here. Their meals were nice. Their meal was hot and freshly cooked chips. My chips were stale and cold. Will not be eating here again.

Very impressed with the inside outside seemed a bit run down. Although busy due to staff sickness. Staff were very attentive and efficient food was delicious and excellent value.

We were regular customers of The Stonehouse but sadly not any longer. Recently they seem to have constant staffing issues. Food is also mediocre. It is advertised as family friendly but on two recent occasions we have felt hostility from several staff members towards our young children being there (at around 5.30pm so not late into the evening). On the first occasion, whilst under my close supervision, my 1 year old put one foot over the carpet onto the hard floor of the bar area and a woman from the bar barked out loudly and without hesitation 'No kids in the bar!'. I could clearly read the sign (unlike my 1 year old) and my child was within 1 foot of where I was standing. This happened on a second occasion recently, and as we were getting up to leave words were had between my wife and a waitress. My understanding is that the waitresses request was not unreasonable, but it was more the way in which it was said and with an overtly hostile attitude, when she could see we were clearly struggling and actually on the way out of the door anyway. I would like to add that we do discipline, entertain and supervise our children (which was clearly visible to the staff) but its not possible to be 100% on them 100% of the time, and to expect a 2 year old and 4 year old to remain seated for an hour or more, is just not feasible, hence why we choose family friendly restaurants. We have never experienced this outright disdain for young children at any restaurant in 4 years, including others within the M&B group and we eat out probably twice per month. To be clear, my issue is not with the requirement for children to be reasonably behaved within a restaurant (which I fully endorse), but the visible disdain and bad attitude towards young children being there from certain members of staff on more than one occasion. A polite request would suffice.

The food was superb.....hot and fresh and tasty

Food was great…have visited many times over the years and tbh has been very ‘hit & miss’. This manager seems to have her ‘eye on the ball’!! No table check but signage up to advise short of staff due to illness.

Good food, good prices, good service

Absolutely love this place, the staff are great and the manager is the loveliest woman I've met! Excellent value for money and always a lovely environment. There's only one thing and it's not every time but we on occasion come out stinking of fried onions lol must be the skillets haha always look forward to a meal here. Christmas Day was a total disaster, we were waiting an hour between courses and most of the food was inedible. There was clearly an issue in the kitchen, the front of house staff were fantastic & did all they could but it doesn't change our enjoyment of the usual day to day menu. We will be back many times to come!

Fantastic place, hot food and I mean hot, good staff good atmosphere.... be careful of floor it's uneven.

Visited for a pre Christmas family meal, staff were amazing and despite being busy food was fresh and very good. Prices are reasonable and we had a great time.

But it was Christmas day and certainly not up to their normal standard. Vegetables were all frozen and undercooked. At least we were well attended by the bar staff. Had to wait an hr before starters and then another hr for our mains

Lovely meal, some helpful & polite staff. Unfortunately, some people are pigs and don't have table manners. To our left, a man was blowing his snotty nose whilst we were eating, and to our right, a woman was sniffing and swallowing her snot and non-stop coughing, made us feel sick! We will be back but will ask to sit away from pigs

Lovely meal with friends. It's quite a while since I'd been to The Stonehouse. It has been refurbished since my last visit and is lovely. The food and service were very good.

We ordered 3 mix grills two larger one small when they arrived at the table we were very disappointed to see there was no size difference in the meat just more chips but there is a £3 difference in the price.

From the start the services was brilliant, we had a big table booking and wanted to add more on the day, they accommodated for that so we were very grateful. Once arrived we were shown to our table ordered drinks and were reminded about our deposit taht we payed so I appreciated that. Food order was taken with no issues. Food arrived at the same time all hot and very nice. Lovely evening had and we will be nack thank you

Visited a few times lately. Staff are very friendly and helpful, food is always good and well cooked and presented and at a great price. Drinks are reasonably priced and a good selection.

Extremely friendly efficient service along with great value for money food

Whilst on the long drive home back to sunny south wales i decided to swing by my local for a drink and a bite to eat! Needless to say as always i wad very pleased! The service was brilliant from pouring the perfect pint of guiness to double checking my order the bar staff were top notch. The food however...even better! A drastic change since my last visit a few months ago. Piping hot food and cooked to absolute perfection! I can not rate this visit highly enough. Makes the long drive home worth it. Look forward to coming back again soon.

Increíble! ! Y la factura era tan barato! ! Un pequeño diamante en bruto no puedo esperar a volver! !

Excelente comida a precios muy buena buena selección de fichas helado buenas porciones de tamaño. Personal amable educado y buen servicio. Ahora los puntos negativos de la decoración es un poco viejo y anticuado, pero gran valor mobiliario precio y aparcamiento en el establecimiento. Nuevo menú con opciones fabulosas.

Vamos aquí a menudo como su cerca de nuestra casa. Para ser honesto, a veces la comida es absolutamente preciosa y una gran relación calidad-precio y otras es espantoso. Me encuentro entre semana a ser mejor. En los períodos que nunca parece ser suficiente personal, pero todo el personal y siempre amables y dispuestos a ayudar. Tiendo a mantener mis dedos cruzados y de esperanza para una buena comida:) que sé que no es muy útil para otros, pero eso es sólo la forma en la que está en el stonehouse. Bebidas a precios razonables y a la familia.

Me he mudado recientemente a st brides de cwmbran y utilice el Stonehouse como restaurante y pub. He estado aquí varias veces y el personal es tan amable en un towner como yo. El pub es siempre acogedor y la comida es estupenda. El aparcamiento es enorme y hay una zona para sentarse fuera y me a llevar a los perros cuando es tiempo de walkies. Tienen una gran variedad de cervezas y de tonel que adapte a mí hacia el suelo. Sin duda recomiendo una visita a este pequeño paraíso en una zona ajetreada x

I love this pub/resturant, the staff a fantastic and really friendly and the food is more than what you would expect for the price. All in all I would 100% recommend visiting Mel and her team at the Stone house. And Page is just the best

Good food for the price you pay. Great atmosphere we're weekly regulars plenty of other places we could go to but we like coming back here each week.

Excellent as always and yesterday was no exception! The cod and chips was out of this world the steak couldn't of been anymore perfect brilliant! keep it up team stonehouse.

We booked for 25 and the staff were fantastic. Had everything ready for us, the food was good, nice atmosphere and affordable for everyone. We've been for food here several times over the years and it's always nice pub food, good options, a nice atmosphere, good prices and friendly staff.

Early lunch and very friendly staff. Accompanied by elderly Aunt and Uncle who were impressed with quality of food and atmosphere. Yes it was early but staff could not do enough for us. We did not have to wait an excessive time for meal. Good value choice on menu and even steak reasonably priced and cooked as requested. My Uncle eats out a lot and he is not easily pleased but he wants to return soon to celebrate his birthday.Guests should remember that this is a pub that serves food and drinks all day. Perhaps they should avoid very busy times or book in a dance.

visited as passing and liked the welcome and the menu. Beers were lovely and cold but no straws for a child's coke!!! over an hour for food that was passable although gammon too salty and fatty whilst the steak was way overcooked. will give this one a miss next time

It was my mums 6th so booked a table as it was recommended by a friend was the first time there. There was 15 of us all together When we arrived the table was already reserved and cutlery ready for us the staff were polite and helpful carrying the drinks to the table they were always smileing and nothing was too much trouble for them. I was served quickly for food and drinks very reasonable prices. Our food was brought out after a small amount of time all meals looked tasty. Well done to the kitchen team. They cleared away then brought my mums cake out and sang to her. We all had a great time and will return. Will defiantly pass my friends recommendation along.

Was visiting family decided to pop in for a bite to eat. To say I was plesently surprised was an understatement.it was a lovely friendly pub the staff were funny happy and answers all my questions regarding the menu as my daughter is lactose intolerant. The food and drinks are amazing value. When food came out you could here it sizzling through the pub I has the steak it was cooked to perfection. Everyone enjoyed there meals and ate them all. We will defiantly come back. The staff and manager make this place.

Randomly popped to this pub for food with my partner and my son. Firstly we were told it would be a 40 minute wait...due to the fact we already got a drink in we were willing to wait. So an hour passes...still no food. About to complain an someone rushes over with our food. My son had chicken nuggets chips and beans...before the waiter walked back i told him he could take the meal straight back. The chips mustve been cooked a couple of times...same with the nuggets. There was no chicken left! My meal was just as bad. We complained which i dont normally do. After soooo long of waiting i was expecting more than what we got. The picture says it all. I will not return to this pub!!!

Always good cold Beers. Slow service at busy times at the bar. Food is hit and miss sometimes ok but on this occasion quite poor with cold chips and overcooked steak. Sent it back and got a better meal but quality of the meat not great.

waited over an hour then food to have it cold and under cooked. Soggy onion rings, Hard chips, Asked for W.D. steak but was more like rare..How ever i did complain to the waiter who offered us a round of free drinks a poor excuse in my opinion i refused, and mentioned to him that the light fitting which was above our table had a web of cobwebs his reply was oh dear i am new here and i will pass your comment to the manager NEVER AGAIN...

Food was nice. Service was very slow even though the restaurant was quite. Waitress was to busy chatting to a guy sat at the bar to be bothered to clear our plates the waiter who brought dessert out had to take away main plate although it took 15 mins to bring out ice cream

Uncooked food, ordered steak, came out within 10 minutes who manages to cook a steak within 10 minutes? It was red and I mean red (not cooked) an full of fat, onions was no where near cooked an mushrooms was half cooked an full of water when you cut into them, awful now 5 hours later and I'm 100% certain I'm having signs of poisoning terrible, chef needs to learn to cook tbh as that was just beyond, won't be returning.

The food wasn't brilliant - pub full of flies - and the kitchen ........ Well that left a lot to be desired - we could see in as we left the car park - rubbing and food all over the floor staff not wearing hair nets - WILL NOT go there again

Visited The Stonehouse middle of July and it was horrendous from the moment I stepped into the place. It wasn't even busy but yet tables were full with dirty cutlery and crockery, there was flies swarming around everywhere and when I mentioned it to a young lady she rolled her eyes and told me it was an ongoing problem. I waited 5 minutes for a drink and when the girl returned there was no apology or a thank you for waiting, she took my orders and made very little effort but was more than happy to snatch the money out of my hand. Our food came out sloppy, the presentation was dreadful and just overall was a very appalling experience and I won't be returning, I definitely wouldn't recommend this place!

Dined here once & the food is delicious & good for price, good quality of drinks and a great atmosphere! Friendly staff and inviting pub! Only disappointment is the garden

We love it at the Stonehouse we call in at least once a month and we always receive great service. Mel runs a great little pub here the team are always friendly and the food is amazing

Nothing is too much trouble. Arrived with 15 guests for a family birthday. All our food turned up together and hot. No complaints from anyone. Great value and will definitely go back for the next family function. Staff very attentive, providing colouring pencils and books for the little ones. Great atmosphere and your not on eggshells with little ones over excited. Easy parking and plenty of room. Just a shame the weather wasn't good enough to use the large beer garden.

visited the stonehouse on many occasions and have never had a problem with anything, helpful staff always willing to go the extra mile and a brilliant standard of food and drink! would highly recommend it!

I came here for breakfast this morning and was thrilled, I had poached eggs on toast and they were wonderful, Mel and Hannah gave fantastic service, and you get unlimited coffee for £1

Went to the stonehouse last Friday after every table being reserved at man of gwent, very busy ordered our starter arrived quickly but then waited ages for main meal hubby meal of steak was disappointing and my mac cheese was like it was from can . Used to be a nice meal years ago wouldn't eat their again other people complaining how slow service was.

Mel the land lady is lovely and her team are efficient and always helpful sometimes if they are busy they are sometimes a bit slow, but if you ask where your food is they are always polite and accommodating. Since Mel has taken over the standard of the food has improved and is more consistent with chicken arriving succulent and teak cooked as requested. Over all a bargain for what you get me and the wife also joined the mailing list and you each get £5 off your food... So what have you got to loose.. £3 for a steak meal... Chris and Emma regular visitors.

When we arrived we waited ages at the bar for a drink as only one boy rushed off his feet when we finally got served no cold cider it was a boiling day went back to the bar to order food again waited ages when the food finally arrived it was lovely and plenty of it felt really sorry for the boy working there as it was busy beware do not go if u are in a rush

What can I say about this amazing friendly pub. Great staff always happy and work well together. Lots of choices for drinks and food. The food is always top notch smells lovely when you walk in mouth watering. I always come here for family occasions/ Breakfast. Just a good atmosphere. Always have what I want. I would recommend this pub to anyone :-D

I had steak wraps and the steak was so tough and overcooked that I could not eat it. The rest of the dish was greasy and unappetising to say the least. I know this is basic pub chain food but it should be of better quality than this.

Really disappointed with this place decided to go for food the smell as you walked in was fausty the tables were dirty (we had to clean them ourselves) whilst the pub wasnt busy the barmaid was too busy to even acknowledge we had walked in we took a look at the menu and went to the bar to order the barmaid still ignored me. A lovely young gent then served us our food arrived and it was dried up and hard we our drinks were flat which were replaced with an apology however the fresh drinks were also flat on the plus side they do offer blue light discount but we wont be returning

This is my local i went for breakfast which i saw advertised i was not dissapointed excellent meal at a cheap price staff very dood and ample car parking

If you visit the stonehouse you know what you’re going to get. Well priced, large meals and a pub-like atmosphere. That’s not in any way disparaging on the stonehouse, the food, in my experience has always been good and the service excellent. The staff are friendly and hard-working, everything well stocked including the condements and the prices are insanely good. Lunchtime specials include a large main meal and a pint for not much more than a cappuccino at your local coffee shop.If you come here expecting Michelin star food or a gourmet menu then you’ll be disappointed. However, if you come here expecting a well priced generously proportioned meal from a traditional pub menu then I’m sure you’ll walk away both full up and happy.

Partner and I came here for a Sunday afternoon meal without an expensive price tag. It did exactly that nice holsum food at a good price! Don't expect the best of the best and you won't be disappointed!

Now that all Wetherspoon's pubs have stopped serving Sunday lunch we were looking for a good value alternative so tried the Stonehouse. The price of the meal was good and included one drink, however the very long wait would put us off going again. To be fair, when I ordered they said there was a 45 minute wait but it was actually more than an hour. We couldn't complain as the staff were working so hard and really trying their best, the young lady behind the bar was literally running around to try to keep up with the customers waiting for drinks. There seemed to be only one barmaid and one waitress serving food which is clearly not enough for a busy Sunday lunchtime. I guess the kitchen was just as under-staffed too which is why there was such a delay. We enjoyed the food when it did arrive but by then had spent extra on another round or two of drinks - maybe that is the plan!

The scampi and chips I ordered arrived very quickly and the waitress who brought it out was very polite. I still think the pub could do with a refurb as the décor is looking very tired and there's a strong smell of stale beer.

We visited here on a rainy afternoon. We thought the Menu was extensive & seemed very good value too.The bill came to £24 for 5 of us, 2 adults & 3 kids which I thought was fantastic. However, the meals were tiny but tasted nice.I probably wont come here again for a while but am intrigued to try the breakfasts as they seem cheap too.

Come here at least twice a month the food and service is always good and my son enjoys it as well my only negative is you need more staff 2 behind bar 1 maybe 2 on floor while its busyFood is where the moneys at

Working on short term contract with a work force of 5. Travel around the UK with our line of work and always have evening meals out. Due to minimum budgets from our employers we are usually limited on where we can eat and get value for money. Got to say out of roughly 40 places we may of eaten from across the U.K in the pass 12 months the stone house has to be in the top 5 and in the top 3 of new places we have checked out. We get a lot of work in the area annually and can see this place with its customer service, friendly staff and great food becoming a regular haunt for the lads and myself. Highly recommend. Been in the area a few years now and although we like to try different places, we still end up returning here, because we know what to expect. Consistently great food, good value and the staff are always happy to help.

My family and I are regular visitors. My children love it here, they have worked their way through the menu and never been disappointed. My youngest has a dairy allergy and I have been very impressed with this side of the service, always willing to go thru the allergy book with me and chef always assures me that his food is cooked separately. If there has been an issue with a meal it has been fixed straight away without trouble, staff always on hand and happy to help!

I was surprised at how nice our meals were as the ratings on here aren't great. I had a mixed grill for less than £8 and it was lovely! Real bargain. We came here as our local sizzler was closed for refurb but would definitely come back. The only negative is there were not enough staff on, the 2 people working were run of their feet. With more staff this could be a great pub X

We decided to visit as our local sizzler was being refurbished. We wasn't disappointed. The food was lovely and really cheap too! The place looked clean and the toilets were clean. The only negative I have is that there only seemed to be 2 people working and they were run off their feet: I'm not complaining as we had everything we asked for but they seemed very strained. As I live locally I am a fairly regular visitor at mealtimes and I have never been disappointed yet as I slowly work my way through the menu. Yesterday was steak and Guinness pie. Really nice and tasty! I have always found the staff friendly and helpful.

Visited this pub with a few friends for lunch. The wait on food was minimal and each of our meals were lovely! plates were cleared quickly and the service we received was outstanding! Will definitely be returning soon.
