My girlfriend and I visited forthe first time on a Sunday evening and thoroughly enjoyed both the food and the experience. The food was very appetising with a wonderfully presented quite wide ranging menu with plenty of choices which tempted me which is quite unusual as it's usually fairly easy to make my selection. We both felt that the prices were very acceptable when compared with the rest of the market and all other options right now especially when we did sample the food and enjoy it as much as we did. The only downside we could see which i admit did annoy me was in the way that they operate allocating the tables and seating. They have board inside the doors asking you to "wait to be seated"..not an unusual request and we have not problem with it. However, this role is usually performed by a member of the waiting staff or in a very busy establishment somebody who has been allocated to the job..not the woman who is at the time the only member of staff who is working serving behind an already busy bar so you have to stand around like a pair of spare parts. Seeing as there were a great many tables I did eventually ask her while she pulling a pint if we need take notice of the "wait to be seated" and i recieved a "yes" reply which i thought was rather frosty and unneeded..and definitely unwanted on my part. She did eventually give us a table in her rather charmless manner which did prove to be a constant and not an anomoly when i went up to our food..however I will add she wasn't rude and just devoid of any form of personality or form of real politeness. We were both very pleased with our meals when the arrived both in terms of quality, taste and quantity which was big enough without being huge but definitely not skimpy and underwhelming like many places are these days. We would be more than happy to return to this restaurant anytime and in fact we look forward to it very much and would urge other people to definitely give it a go.

The offer of 40% off was too good to miss and proved right , a bit of a queue at the bar and the whole place was not warm at all ,however the food was lovely nothing to fault at all , service with a smile , spend a little more on extra staff and heating and you've got a great place

We went for the festive lunch we had to wait ages in between courses the starters were ok the festive burger was good turkey dinner was frozen roasties the veg was hard not impressed.. and disappointed…..normally have very good meals here. The food going out for the normal menu looked good. it was not particularly busy so not sure what happened but won’t go for festive menu again!

Booked table but didn't actually book the 3 course meal in error, anyway they let us have the 3 course if we had Christmas dinner and could pick our starter and dessert....it was very nice thou the sprouts were a little overdone and gravy was thin ( I like thicker gravy but was still tasty) the turkey was melt in the mouth delicious....I couldn't eat it all and they gave me a takeaway tub, £17.49 was good value for 3 courses.The servers were attentive and pleasant, we had a lovely afternoon thank you as always I will return 🙌 Merry Christmas 🎄🎁🎅xx

Really enjoy the food from here, never had a problem with the meals we have had, the fish and chips are always tasty, the batter is crisp not to thick and not greasy, burgers are always cooked well and juicy.untill last night when we ordered with just eat. The food was freezing cold. It only had to come to pill, and it was inedible because it was as if i had just taken it out of the fridge. I do not place blame on the Stonehouse the blame is with the just eat courier. Bag was open when he arrived, so if he was using a thermal bag it did not work. From now on I will click and collect from there not use just eat or Uber as they have multiple drops and wait for a few deliveries to be done in one hit. Not happy with the couriers ............

I had a good time for our christmas works meal. It was nicely decorated the only thing missing would of been nice to have some crackers to pull and if we had our tables together as we were a group of 18 we were seperated onto 2 different tables it would of been nice if we could of been together to talk more without shouting cross the tables. Onto the food, The stuffed Yorkies were delisious, christmas cracker stacker was incredible and christmas pudding was stunning. I'd go again ☺️

Staff drinks and most of food was great .. but they had disgusting sirloin steak mostly full of fat . Which has never happened before there so . We won't be returning for some time

It is a bar that mainly caters to locals. When I arrived at 6pm, more than half of the tables were occupied. The atmosphere was relaxed and cheerful, and the food was served faster than we could order. Fish and chips are the British national dish and can be ordered everywhere. The fried fish is crispy on the outside and the fish meat is white and juicy, which is very delicious. The French fries are equally crispy and the green beans are actually fresh and sweet. The vegetables are fresh, crisp and juicy.

We visited tonight and the lady and all the staff were so friendly and my son has a dairy allergy and they checked everything. The service was absolutely outstanding, they went above and beyond. Highly recommended 👌 our food was lovely.

I have been ordered from The Stone House on Uber Eats for little while now and I have to say their buttermilk chicken burger is the best I’ve ever had. Great selection of different foods and lovely brownie. Would recommend to anyone.

Fantastic service tonight ! , shown promptly to our table by friendly staff. On ordering the meals I was asked if there were any allergies.Upon declaring my allergy the manager was called. She noted my allergy then personally took my order to the kitchen.She then came over to our table to inform me that all the kitchen staff were aware of my food allergy.When the food was brought to our table my plate of food was carried by the manager separately to ensure no cross contamination. If you have food allergies and want value for money tasty hot pub food served by staff who take you allergies seriously then head to the Stonehouse. We have eaten at the stonehouse 3 times this last month. I can honestly say that each time we have had food, the food has been amazing. Hot, cooked to perfection, just simply delicious. We have had something different each time we visited. My husband has always commented on how lovely the beer his and that the stonehouse keeps a good pint of beer. The service is excellent and the staff are amazing. Always very friendly, attentive, and accommodating. I would highly recommend the stone house for food and drink. Very reasonable prices for excellent food. Keep up the good work, team stonehouse. Thank you for your amazing service.

I’ve been to the Stonehouse quite a few times over the years and they’ve never let me down. The staff are friendly and approachable and the food is always very nice. Great service and great food, what more could you want?

It was the first time my family and I visited the Stonehouse and our experience was a pleasure. We felt welcome with friendly staff assisting our every need. The atmosphere was comfortable, the food and drinks were perfect. My wife and I tried the new Gyros that we thoroughly enjoyed. I also had a pint of Worthington which was the perfect pint! I will definitely be returning to the Stonehouse in the near future.

It was the first time I've visited The Stonehouse, but it certainly won't be the last. I tried the new Gyros and really enjoyed it. The beer was perfect, and it is all served by friendly staff that makes you feel welcome. This place is ideal for families should you be looking for somewhere to eat. My daughter and I had a lovely time. Food was pipping hot and delicious. App is really easy to use and our order came really quick even though it was busy. Staff were pleasant and seemed happy to help. Lost one star overall as there was a lot of rubbish on the floor right infront of the entrance, bin outside had obviously overflowed. Was still there when we left after our meal.

Arranged to meet family members at The Stonehouse as they were having a meal , upon entering what looked like a nice place, my husband and I, along with our daughter and her husband, approached my sister and brother in law who were already seated with their Grandaughter and had ordered food,they suggested we sit at the table next to theirs ,while we were deciding about food the bar attendant shouted over to my husband, "can I help you " she said ,my husband replied yes I'd like 2 pints please and 2 cokes ,she then asked "are you having food " my husband replied "no " as he wasn't sure if we were ,she then told him he has to go around the other side of the bar and not allowed to sit with our family if he wasn't having food ,So we all stood at the bar ,she then asked if the pint was for our son in law and has he ID to prove his age ,we all laughed as he's 29 and never been asked for ID ,consequently she wouldn't serve him as he doesn't feel the need to walk around with his passport so he didn't want to sit with a soft drink either, then when we all went to sit in the bar area she said my Daughters husband wasn't allowed to sit with us ,we were shocked, I felt awful for him and guessed there was underlying racism, I was extremely upset ,I've never been made to feel like that in any other public house in my life ,we stayed outside I drank my cola and we all went elsewhere for food I asked the staff member for her name "Rhianon " she said . Awful place ,extremely unfriendly to strangers 😢

Food was better than ever lately

The food was great but certain members of the staff crew were not engaged, and we ended up paying more as we were not told that we could save money with the lunch offer until we checked the menu. We have made the enquiry about it but we were totally ignored. Only the lady who possibly was the manager said thank you on our way out, that was a nice touch.

Turned up 7.30pm, nobody welcomed us or seated us. To busy taking food to tables and couldn’t even greet us. Come time to order get told the kitchen is closed… waste of time, won’t be back.

Visited twice whilst staying in Newport, both times service and food were good. Unfortunately some of the clientele were rowdy, both inside and outside - hence only 4☆

Great pub amazing staff and team work. Shows live sports. The beer garden is lovely when the sun is shining.Always have a good experience here friendly helpful and polite staff. The food is tasty and there is a great variety of food and drinks including breakfasts and buffets. All reasonably priced. Would recommend too all

The outside looks very dilapatated with rotting wood, tired paintwork and lots of cigarette butts on the floor. Not a great first inpression, however, once inside the pub was clean and reasonably well decorated. Some seats a bit shabby. Staff were really helpful and pleasant and the food was great. I liked that I could order on my phone

Lovely day for some food out, stonehouse is around the corner from me, I have a nut allergy and the staff were really helpful and I felt went above and beyond expectations to give me every opportunity to have my preferred meal they catered to me and I got to have my first choice, really friendly, lovely atmosphere where it was busy but still got served, seated and ate. Looking forward to going again

If I could leave 0 stars I would, don’t think this place wants customers. Arrived and the venue and it wasn’t busy, was lingering by the bar for a while but no communication off staff, so went to sit at an empty table to look and order food. Was shouted over at abruptly ‘where are you going’ across the whole pub, a little more consideration wouldn’t be too much to ask as a customer, but don’t think customer training has been done to be honest . Spoke to very rudely by a blonde girl behind the bar, very belittling and a stinking attitude. Was told it was an hour wait for food even though there was barely anyone there, would’ve waited the hour if the staff member wasn’t so rude but no way I’d spend my money there. Told to book next time, wasn’t aware this was the ritz.

We booked for 2 people. Saturday evening. We arrived and was told our table number. The table was for 6 people. We were seated next to a table of about 10. The were very loud and the language was disgusting. We asked to be seated somewhere else. The lady said there were no other tables available. But there were many tables empty. Said she they were waiting for a table of 18 to come in. We asked again to be moved. The table next to us were getting louder and the filth coming out of there mouth was disgusting. Its suppose to be a family pub. We left. We have been coming to the pub for years but never heard language like it.

We had a low coolant warning on the car, so we stopped here hoping for help, the staff hooked me up with some hot water, very courteous and saved my neck, we'll deffo be back for a meal and be telling everyone to grab a drink and meal there, thank you ever so much

Visited on the 3rd of April for an evening meal, Upon arriving a welcoming bar server quickly brought us over to the bar to allocate a table to our booking, she took us over to our table and explained to come up to the bar for drinks and food ordering- Shortly after sitting down we went to the bar to grab some drinks, Served by what was believed to be some form or manager who was pretty quickly dismissive and wasn’t happy at all, absolute bundle of joy, Name tag was Rhi (assuming a shortened version of the name). she asked for ID which was no issue of course as this is policy, one of us however after returning later for some more drinks she was asking who the drinks were for and asking to see the people on the table with an attitude- I understand policy however is there really any need to ask to see who they are for on the table before allowing them to be sold, especially with the attitude put on, saying things like ‘well it’s not being given to you then’ and ‘doesn’t matter you won’t be getting served them’. After food, going up to order desserts with the bundle of joy herself once more was a hassle as with almost everything she did, Saying addons such as ice cream cannot be removed or swapped, Personally I’ve never known a fudge cake with the ice cream being baked inside of it especially since it arrived simply put ontop of the cake however I don’t think she was really the type of person to even attempt to help or look into what you were saying, rather walk off and deal with the next person she had to in order to get some pay. Ordered a menu item that also came with a coffee which was told will be brought to the table, after which 15 minutes it still hadn’t shown up, we popped up to the bar to see and got a response from the lady saying she had to deal with something and that it was at the end of the bar simply pointing at a coffee mug, no saucer stirrers or sugars at all. Was also barely warm after having been left for a while. Additionally one of the most recent 5 star reviews is from the lady that actually served us with such a hassle. It’s her shown on the since removed profile picture and same name as on her name tag. With all due respect the food and atmosphere was lovely thus the 5 star rating for them. All props to the chefs as food was lovely and other young lady and rest of the team who served us on the bar as everything was great- she got the tip instead- thank you Tonicha. Besides what was mentioned, Everything to do with the food and drink and atmosphere was brilliant in all fairness to the Stonehouse! Service sells however, The whole experience was simply put off by having staff act like this, which is why an overall would be 1 star. With response to the edit from the stonehouse, It is unfortunate you see this as a personal attack, however if you were to think about it- any form of complaint against a waiter or member of staff could pretty easily been classed as a “personal attack”- wether it is simple denial to redirect this review towards myself or clear misunderstanding towards this being a personal attack I have removed some pieces of Information regarding this as I do not wish any harm across to your team especially the ones who are great at their job at your establishment. I will not be emailing yourselves and all comments left within this review are simply my experience within the stonehouse. My review was of my whole experience which did just so happen to be mostly affected by one member of staff. Thank you for your response.

Welcoming and delightful and wonderful services

I really enjoy coming here with my family usually once a week. The only issue I have is that the nachos do not come with sour cream :) but everything else is fab.

We went in recently for foor just have some quality family time. And wow!! This new menu is fantastic so many options to choose from. And to see family enjoy their time was everything. Sharon and the rest of the team are brilliant and always so accommodating. Perfect place for some quality family time and great food.

We've been before and it's always been a good experience. This time it was exceptional, as it was St Valentine's night, the eating area had been laid out with table cloths and every table had a rose placed on it, which made for an atmosphere befitting this special evening. The food and service where as usual excellent.

They weren’t taking walk ins due to only having one chef due to unforeseen circumstances which is completely understandable, however a waitress with light brown hair and glasses stormed up to us and very rudely with an attitude said to us ‘well have you booked with us we aren’t taking walk ins’. My great grandmother was very taken a back and upset. We asked why and she was extremely blunt and rude to us, We come here quite often but we definitely won’t be returning , absolutely terrible customer service. Would leave 0 stars if I could! Just replying to your reply, my problem isn’t with the not being able to sit in and order food, bereavement is completely understandable and can’t be helped you’re right. It’s the manner in which we were spoken to and told about it.

Food was beautiful, service was very good, atmosphere was brilliant. Only complaint is that the salt in the salt pot was slightly damp so wouldn't come out of the shaker.

We visited quite a few times. Unfortunately on this occasion the food was not to its usual standard. The food didn't seem to be freshly cooked. Maybe it had been kept warm for a while?

Very impressed with the inside outside seemed a bit run down. Although busy due to staff sickness. Staff were very attentive and efficient food was delicious and excellent value.

We were regular customers of The Stonehouse but sadly not any longer. Recently they seem to have constant staffing issues. Food is also mediocre. It is advertised as family friendly but on two recent occasions we have felt hostility from several staff members towards our young children being there (at around 5.30pm so not late into the evening). On the first occasion, whilst under my close supervision, my 1 year old put one foot over the carpet onto the hard floor of the bar area and a woman from the bar barked out loudly and without hesitation 'No kids in the bar!'. I could clearly read the sign (unlike my 1 year old) and my child was within 1 foot of where I was standing. This happened on a second occasion recently, and as we were getting up to leave words were had between my wife and a waitress. My understanding is that the waitresses request was not unreasonable, but it was more the way in which it was said and with an overtly hostile attitude, when she could see we were clearly struggling and actually on the way out of the door anyway. I would like to add that we do discipline, entertain and supervise our children (which was clearly visible to the staff) but its not possible to be 100% on them 100% of the time, and to expect a 2 year old and 4 year old to remain seated for an hour or more, is just not feasible, hence why we choose family friendly restaurants. We have never experienced this outright disdain for young children at any restaurant in 4 years, including others within the M&B group and we eat out probably twice per month. To be clear, my issue is not with the requirement for children to be reasonably behaved within a restaurant (which I fully endorse), but the visible disdain and bad attitude towards young children being there from certain members of staff on more than one occasion. A polite request would suffice.

Food was great…have visited many times over the years and tbh has been very ‘hit & miss’. This manager seems to have her ‘eye on the ball’!! No table check but signage up to advise short of staff due to illness.
