The Steam Packet in Hounslow

I enjoyed a truly superb lunch at The Steam Packet yesterday. It’s been a couple of years since I’ve visited this gem in Chiswick overlooking the Thames; I enjoyed my last visit… and this one even more. There are three criteria with which to describe a restaurant: the food, the service and the setting… and The Steam Packet hits a perfect score with all of them. The food: sweet chilli king prawns, served with ciabatta were prepared to perfection. I’ve tasted prawns in quite a few countries… from Mauritius to Moscow… and I have to say that The Steam Packet outshines them all. Passion fruit and mango cheesecake with coconut ice cream was the dream desert. The service was excellent in every way: genuinely friendly and wonderfully efficient. The setting can’t be beaten: the decor is tastefully easy on the eye, with the view of the Thames enhancing the experience. Overall rating: 100%.

The Steam Packet is a hidden gem of Chiswick, with the Thames right on their doorstep and a beautiful view no matter where you sit. Immediately as you walk in, you're greeted and welcomed by the loveliest bartender before being sat at your table. Their drinks selection was huge, with an even larger selection of soft drinks to choose from - I went for a rose lemonade, which was delicious. My waiter was very kind, ensuring that my gluten intolerance was communicated to the kitchen. While waiting for my food to arrive, I couldn't help but notice how welcome he made all his tables - despite having quite a few tables, he made sure that no table was ignored. My sausage and mash arrived quickly and the sausages were so tasty, definitely worth the money. Although they had a lot of dessert options, the meal was so filling that I couldn't fit a dessert. Overall, a very beautiful pub with lovely staff, would definitely recommend you stop here for a drink when walking along the Thames 🌳

The place itself was lovely with a good vibe inside. However, I would not return. My friend and I were walking home and we said we would pick an extra drink up for him on the way home. I ordered him a double vodka soda and then I paid £20. I asked the man if that price was right and he said “yeah, two doubles”. I told him several times I just wanted one, and he kept repeating “I heard 2” - well that was incorrect and I wasn’t even drinking that night and honestly felt he should have said “apologies for the mistake” and rectified it, but he seemed not to care at all. Shame as it’s a nice place. But due to that staff member and his attitude would not return or recommend.

Nestled along the picturesque banks of the River Thames, The Steam Packet in Chiswick offers a dining experience that is as delightful as its views. My recent visit left me thoroughly impressed, not only by the stunning scenery but also by the exquisite culinary offerings. For starters, I opted for the salmon and ginger fish cakes. These were a revelation, perfectly balanced with a delightful hint of lemongrass that infused each bite with a refreshing zest. The texture was spot on, crisp on the outside and tender within, making for an impeccable start to the meal. The highlight, however, was the main course. I chose the roasted pork ribeye, accompanied by café de Paris butter. The ribeye was cooked to perfection, juicy and flavorful, with the rich, herb-infused butter elevating the dish to new heights. Every mouthful was a pleasure, leaving me exceptionally full and thoroughly satisfied. Overall, The Steam Packet is a gem in Chiswick, combining breathtaking river views with a menu that showcases culinary expertise. It’s a perfect spot for a relaxed yet memorable dining experience. Went on a busy Saturday night with my mum and had the most amazing experience! The interior was beautiful and cozy and the restaurant had a great view to the river. Our waitress Mia was super sweet and helpful, she was literally the perfect example of waitressing and solved every problem with ease and professionalism. Overall a great experience and a definite must visit if you're ever in the area!

What a find! We happened upon this lovely pub after a trip to Kew Gardens. Wonderful food and service with beautiful decor and views of the river. 4 plates for £25 were all excellent and seasoned and cooked to perfection. Lovely wine at a reasonable price and great service. We’ll definitely be back!

After a trip to Kew we chose this pub for a Saturday early evening meal. We were so pleased we did. The upstairs dining room has great views of the river if you get a window table or choose to dine on the balcony. The staff were all friendly and helpful with great service. Beers and cider were great and food couldn’t be faulted. To start we chose the varied and delicious small plate starters (4 for £25 which was sufficient for 3 people). Mains were the superbly tender beer cooked beef feather(not feather weight!), Chicken Milanese and Raclette burger. Investigating the Brunning and Price pub chain we were unsurprised to discover that the Physician in Birmingham is in the group. Thanks team for a great experience.

Best Sunday Roast in London! If you're looking for perfectly cooked sirloin beef: gorgeously pink! Huge Yorkshire puddings, beautiful celeriac mash and veg, then this is the place! My partner is such a fan of their cauliflower and cheese that it's the one dish he wouldn't share with me, he easily polishes one off so make sure you get one each. We've been let down by a lot of pubs in the area, we've found that it's hard to find consistently good roasts, but I've confidently booked at The Steam Packet the past few weeks and have always had such good service and delicious food. Don't hesitate to book you won't regret it!

Came for a Sunday roast and left very disappointed. There was nothing right with it (meat, mash, gravy) I'm a huge fan of Yorkshire puddings and theirs looked/tasted like those from a packet. Wouldn't recommend their sunday roast to anyone. Perhaps the rest of the food is decent but I will definitely not risk going for another meal there.

The highlight of our visit was the food, which was absolutely fantastic. The service was also great, and the pub itself is a beautiful place to sit. Would recommend to anyone and will definitely come back

Had a delicious roast dinner on Sunday with the family. The staff were very attentive and food portions were generous. Really liked the extra gravy boats and full little tubs of horseradish that went with our roast beef.

Had a lovely time and the team are great there, but unfortunately went for a roast following a previous visit and was totally let down. The portions weren’t fantastic and when I asked about the unlimited roast potatoes and yorkshires that I had been raving about to friends for years, I was told they had stopped due to new management. Very disappointing news indeed.

We live in Chiswick and this is the first time we’ve visited for Sunday lunch. The service and food were superb and we will definitely be back.

Fabulous evening. Waiter went out of his way to find us a table on the balcony. Service throughout was impeccable and the food delicious and reasonably priced. Downstairs is more “pubby” and equally good for a quick pint or a full meal; upstairs is an elegant dining room with tables outside on the balcony and great view of the river. Highly recommended.

Had a lovely dinner with Thames views. Everyone was very helpful and friendly. The food was excellent, better than most pub dining experiences. Our second visit in the last two months and will be returning. Thank you.

Perfect place for dinner, watching the sun set across Kew Gardens. We started to dine on the upstaitrs balconey but cool temperatures drove us indoors. The service was friendly and proficient, the food very good, one of the best fish and chips I've had. My wife had spicy linguine with prawns which she compared with similar dishes in her home country of Singapore. The ambience was casual and cosy and perfect for romantic dinner.

My wife booked the table for a meal after the long drive to stay in London. I have to say from the second we walked in until I stepped back out of the door we were extremely well looked after. The service was excellent the waiter attentive with perfect timing even communicating with the chef when my wife asked. The food, WOW the food was exceptional the cooking precise the presentation un fussy but sleek. We mixed our order up sharing all of the dishes. My youngest daughter whom can be very critical and picky was delighted with her meal. I real have been truly impressed with the whole experience this evening and highly recommend this place. WELL DONE to all the staff there. Congratulations to the chef and kitchen staff our meal was truly memorable.
