It was a great stay. Near important tourist atractions! Pretty near the underground and in a walkable distance of Big Ben, the London Eye. The neighbourhood is quiet and Nice. And the hamburguer served with fries is a good deal. Good price, and tasty. I was traveling alone, and felt safe to walk and come back in the Night by myself. The staff is pretty Nice as well, and they provide what they can to make your stay comfortable, such as lending me a hairdryer!

There is no cleaning. Nobody cleans the bathrooms, there is only 1 bathroom for more than 30 people. The rooms are a breeding ground for everything. Not only the smell of everything, the lack of hygiene. The staff is good. The location is acceptable because walking in 35 minutes you are in the center. There is no kitchen, no refrigerator, nothing. You only have the bar that you must consume there. I would not return due to the lack of hygiene.

We stayed two nights and it was great. The location is perfect because it is very central. The hostel staff has helped us a lot by giving us instructions on possible plans. In particular, Mani has been very attentive and helped us very quickly when we had a problem with the room card

It’s a great place to stay (comfy beds, clean washrooms, sizable storage lockers). The chubby bearded guy who works in the kitchen is rude though. The rest of the staff is nice.

I had a lovely stay and everything I needed was provided (including a hot shower!). This place is perfect for solo travelers, offering both comfort and convenience. It’s a great option if you're looking for a simple yet reliable stay with all the essentials covered.

It was a bad experience, the smell is horrible from the moment you enter the hostel itself, the photos that appear on the page have nothing to do with reality, except for the bar. The room was uncomfortable and very small, it had no individual light, the bathrooms were totally disgusting, they were insufficient for so many people.

Awful. There are only 2 bathrooms for approximately 60 people, these remain dirty and have a very bad smell. The beds are very close to each other, it is not at all the same as the photographs on the page.

Affordable for Central London, rooms are clean. Showers are nice and warm. Easy access outlets right above your head including usb. Beds are a little difficult to climb up. Would like some more coat hangers in the room.

Tuve un par de horas para matar mientras mi esposa estaba en la calle Thomas hospital cercano, casualidad a través de esta joya de un pub... Excelente opción de cervezas convencionales más algunos diamantes de cerveza artesanal, combinado con personal muy amable y cortés. Decidiendo quedarme más tiempo, tuve una de sus excelentes hamburguesas y papas fritas, que estaba cocinada a la perfección y era muy sabrosa a muy buen precio. Sin duda volveré si estoy en la vecindad - gran pub! Muchas gracias.

The good: Location is pretty good, they give you free storage and the staff is super kind and helpful. The bad: lots of city noises at night and the building is not well noise insulated. Also the beds are very noisy when everyone moves around. The ugly: Non with the hotel. Just don’t plan to take a metro a sunday before 7am, it’s closed. Looks like in public transportation matters London is a 3rd world country.

I really enjoyed my stay! I loved being able to hang out at the pub and the outdoor garden (with heaters). Coffee is great and I’ve had the chicken sandwich on my first night. Everyone at the restaurant and check in was wonderful! Awesome location for London Bridge, Big Ben, House of Parliament, Westminster Abby and so much more! Check out the market by London Bridge! Super nice hostel! Cozy restaurant and everything is clean. The mattresses have a kind of plastic layer which I liked because of... hygiene. Mwenya is a very friendly & sociable man. He goes the extra mile for his guests. Even when he is already free. Pav checked us in and has a friendly smile. She has a nice chat and also does her job well. They are both there for you if you have a question. The garden is a nice place to sit, even when it rains. We ate delicious burgers and loaded fries. Definitely recommended! 1 tip: racks for the telephones next to the bed. The bed will eat all your stuff so think carefully about that haha

Food review: Decent range of burgers. Good dirty chips. Not exactly gourmet though, expect the flavour from the other fillings, not the burger! They don't have plates! You just get stuff in a paper wrap or in a cardboard tub. Good range of drinks on tap.

For the price, a perfect choice in London for a City Break. It's okay, even though it's coeducational rooms and roommates are nothing to be afraid of. Great location, clean, nice service. There could definitely be more public bathrooms.

A visit to the hostel in London was very pleasant. The authentic and welcoming atmosphere, with its classic decor and good visibility into the pub below the hostel. It provides a true tradition in British culture. The beer selection is excellent, with a good variety of craft and traditional options. The service was efficient and friendly, and the menu offered few options. Overall, it was a positive experience, deserving a 4/5 rating. The best rating goes to the location, excellent. 10 minutes from BigBen and metro 200 meters away.

There is no toilet in the rooms, only 1 mirror per accommodation, everything is very narrow and uncomfortable, there is no space to organize the suitcase.

Stayed here for 5 nights with my boyfriend in September of 2024. We had an averagely good experience, but didn’t expect much as we definitely booked based on location (5 min walk from the tube) and rates at the time we looked for a place to stay (about 3 months in advance of travel). It was honestly “just fine”. They have Hot showers that go on forever, daily cleaning from a lovely attendant, food and drinks are available 24/7, and they have some pretty cool staff! Grace especially stood out with her consistent professionalism, genuine smile, and warm energy. . . Even when I was bit clueless and accidentally made her job harder, she was a standup guy. Truly Ace! There was also a blonde woman with glasses who was a joy to interact with, though I regret I didn’t get her name as I didn’t see her after she checked us in our first day. However, here are some details that may actually be important to you: we saw many guests of all ages, including young adults with their parents, etc, so it’s an age-inclusive hostel, which I think is great! However, I’m only 28 and the bunk beds in room one threw my back out after the first night. . . Which isn’t something I struggle with. The mattresses bore the pronounced impressions of many MANY *heavy* bodies sleeping on them. . . Or they were just old af. 🤣 in addition to that, the bathroom floor is literally always wet because of the showers, and you have to make sure there is soap and paper *before* you go (made that mistake too many times 😮‍💨) because they only get tended 1x/day. The pub is the only common space to *chill*, beside your bunk, but they have board games, music, and food available always (plus drinks!) I’m sure it would be the perfect spot for some, for us, it was a warm bed with a safe place to keep our things as we caught as many rush tickets in the West End that we could. All in all, I’d stay there again (but on a different bunk/mattress), but as an introverted person who doesn’t consume alcohol anymore, I’d prefer a place with a communal kitchen, lounge, or some such quieter place to interact with other guests. (Unrelated to the hostel, buuuuuut advice for theater goers: Screw TodayTix, just go to the box office of the show you want to see 1hr before the performance time and ask what tix they have left. If you’re willing to sit by yourself, you can get even better deals than the last minute tix they want to sell.)

We had a great time staying at the steam engine. It's a cute hostel and the people working there are so so nice and helpful! We felt very welcome :) Plus the food is amazing and the very large english breakfast is indeed very large but adds perfectly to the london experience. Two nights 8/24-8/25, I recently stayed at the Steam Engine Hostel and had a fantastic experience. I arrived late at night, and although I was tired from my journey, the night shift staff member (possibly named Demetrius) made the check-in process seamless and stress-free. He went above and beyond to help me settle in, showing exceptional kindness and compassion, which I will never forget. The rooms were clean and comfortable, making my stay even more pleasant. Overall, the Steam Engine Hostel provided a welcoming and hospitable environment. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great place to stay!

The worst hostel I have ever stayed in. The bathrooms were flooding, everything was wet and they had a very bad smell. The worst of all was that my backpack with all my things was stolen while it was locked in the designated lockers. The hostel manager was no help, saying she would call the police to include additional information but never did. They didn't have a clear protocol for these situations and they had the audacity to say that it was my responsibility to make sure they didn't rob me in there. All this happened in less than ten minutes after leaving the room. I don't recommend it to anyone. They are concealers of thieves.

I stayed here in 2016 and it was the worst accommodation I have ever stayed in. Lots of noise, dirty and unfriendly staff. I was staying for 3 nights but on the first night I already booked another hotel.

Iv been coming here for over two years but it will be the last time I ever come to this place, after staff making the mistake of not checking me in the same bed two nights in a row I was spoken to very rudely and told to take my luggage with me and check in later when I asked if it was possible to leave my luggage in a locker in the dorm I was due to move into I was told no, I wasn't allowed to leave anything at the property even tho I had stayed the the past two nights. The rudeness of the staff caused me to have a huge anxiety attack, and I even collapsed as I was threatened with the police after being told there were no other members of staff to talk to, I will not be returning after experiencing intolerable and rude behaviour from their staff

Had a really relaxed & comfortable night recently. Staff were super friendly, pints were great & rooms remained fresh & cool even though it was 30° outside!

Booked this on very short notice for a concert, parking is available nearby, great safe location within waterloo and walking distance from most central london attractions. The staff were helpful and friendly. Located near both Lambeth North and Waterloo tube stations and all for a very reasonable price. Would stay again.

Definitely rate this place!! Really friendly especially Daniel who I've had on both nights around 11 onwards and I've had a really hard time with partner in hospital nearby but he's been super kind and helpful and it's really good value for a hostel this central, rainfall shower?!! That's luxury. Bed cosy enough and all clean- I've had some nightmare hostels so thisnhas been the perfect spot for getting that needed rest! Wooo go Daniel and the team for being great. (Also great drinks options!)

Chilled place for a drink or even stay for a night..

In general good, the rooms are very small to accommodate up to 12 people, the black man at the entrance yelled at my friends for making a mistake and entering through the emergency door, which they made a mistake since it is not even to guide you, it is necessary clean the rooms.

It’s a cute and lovely pub. There isn't a huge variety of beers, but they seem to have some hip ones on hand, and the female staff are especially friendly. It was quieter than other pubs during the day and the food was delicious, so I often went there for lunch :)

The hostel is very well located. There is a 15-minute walk from Big Ben. The rooms I stayed in are mixed. I had no problems with this and I also didn't see anything that could discredit this fact. The bed is very comfortable. Pillow and duvet too! The service is impeccable! The girls at the reception/pub are super friendly and helpful. The bathroom, which is also mixed, is good. Clean and organized. The only negative points are: 1) not having curtains on the bunk beds (I think this is the minimum when we talk about a hostel); 2) the door is next to the bunk beds and the overhead spring for closing is unregulated. This meant that, every time a person left the door, it would knock very loudly, disturbing their sleep.

Positive: Location is perfect, close to the subway. Staff at the reception/bar were nice. Comfortable mattress and pilow. There is an outlet with usb to charge cellphone on each bed. The pub downstairs is really nice. Negative: GIRLS AND BOYS SHARE THE SAME WASHING ROOM (SHOWER AND RESTROOM) I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS IN ANY HOSTEL I HAD BEEN IN MY LIFE!!!! My blanket was smelling bad as if it was washed without soap. The iron room lockers were pretty small and noisy. Too much light inside the room coming from the windows. The 3 bed bunckers are smal between them and the highest was so hard to go up and go down. There was no air conditioner, just a couple of fans on the floor. If you want to turn on the lights, you have only 2 option: or you turn on the entire room or not. There was no outlet in the bathroom. The washing room was disgusting and stinking, the sink was clogged and is so small. The sink drain was disgusting. No breakfast included. Conclusion: Only to sleep for 2 nights maximum is fine. What makes the hostels a better environment are the people and I wasnt lucky. But they MUST to improve cleaning and put some rules and chek them in the room and bathroom.

I spend one night in the hostel/pub. The place is nice and the pub is opened 24/7. The services changes quite frequently, some of the people are nicer than others. The rooms are quite busy and smelly, due to the amount of people inside, but the furniture is quite new. The shared toilets are okish (without any toilet paper and as the showers are inside the same room the floor is permanently soaked.

It was great! I couldn't have chosen a better place. Good experience, with good people. Everyone treated me super well.

I booked this for a birthday, due to an activity nearby. The staff were incredibly helpful and accommodating, polite and humane throughout. I booked the outdoor space for the group and it was such a good space for a group of up to 20. We had so much fun. We brought a speaker, the garden had heaters and cover from the rain. Well considered space. And the staff! Such chill people. Stored a huge birthday cake for us, read the instructions and took it out of fridge at the right time before serving it. They provider everything I asked for! Even a spatula! The devil is in the detail when it comes to customer service and I appreciate the service we got. The staff here are really lovely people. The food was also good and good prices!

Estábamos saltando en el pub cuando nos cruzamos con este lugar cerca de nuestro hotel. Aunque nuestras expectativas (como aficionados a las hamburguesas americanas) no eran especialmente altas, ¡nos sorprendió lo deliciosa que estaba la hamburguesa! Definitivamente vale la pena una visita.

£21.40 for a double rum and coke and a cider?! Ended up having the one and buying a bottle of rum and a few cans for less. Didn't use the rooms etc

I have not been there for a while. Thd service is still good but the worst burger even. The food just gone down hill do much.

We were in room 3 on the first floor. Sleeping is quite complicated because there is a lot of commotion from people who are going to work or coming, or from the kids themselves who are partying. The beds are not bad but there are curtains Each one has a charging plug You have a locker in your room to store your luggage (you need a lock and it fits 2 normal backpacks) downstairs they also store your luggage if you need it. The toilets are quite dirty, it seems like they are cleaned once a day (I feel like 3 showers and 2 toilets) for the entire room (36 people) of the 3 nights I showered, 2 the water came out cold. It is good that it is economical but if you pay something, it must be under conditions.

Well located hostel, the rooms are small but well equipped. I had planned earplugs for the night but frankly, it wasn't necessary (Monday evening), the staff is friendly, there is the possibility of buying some supplies at reception if we need them something (adaptor, towel, toothbrush, etc.)

For the price and location you can't ask for much, the cleanliness of the bathrooms needs to improve

Personally my experience has not been good; At first impression, the bar looks quite good since it is typical for customers who are not staying there to consume it. As for the rest, I didn't like it at all. The toilets were always dirty and pretty. The beds are comfortable but the rooms are not cleaned properly either. There are no lights in the bed. There is a lot of constant noise. As for employees, the receptionists are very friendly. I will not return, and I do not recommend for the price. Anyway. 1 star.

The location great. You can go Westminster Bridge only 2 mins. There are 2-3 diff markets. The facility has no common kitchen but they offer something in the bar. There are only 2 toilet at the flat. Some of the time they were very dirty.

Good features, the rooms are comfortable as are the bathrooms. The place is quite clean. It has a place to eat and the hamburgers are recommended.

This hostel exceeded my expectations in every way. Not only was it impeccably clean, but it was also well-managed, ensuring a hassle-free stay. Its proximity to tourist attractions was a major plus, making it convenient to explore the city without wasting time on commuting. I stayed in an all-female 9-bed dormitory, luckily with respectful neighbours. There is the occasional snorer, but no one that turns on the main light in the middle of the night or noisy stompers. The dormitory had a modern feel, with comfortable beds and wall sockets for phones right by each bed. This hostel truly sets the gold standard for budget accommodation.

Burger a bit under done but tasty

Cons: The door lock in the 2nd floor washroom wasn't working well and i got stuck there for like 10 minutes trying to open it. i had to call the place and a staff helped me out. There are very different prices on different app on agoda it's listed as £13 per night on the other hand the same room is about £37 per night. So, make sure you see all the websites listing before booking online. Pros: The staffs are very experienced and friendly especially one young woman i developed a crush on. Room, Washroom & Showers are clean and my room was relatively quite so i had a good sleep.

Good service, relatively quiet place good for a sit down drink

Stay for a few days. The Place Is lovely, you can find a small restaurant downstairs and the burgers are delicious 🍔 Plenty draught beers which is appreciated! The main drawback at this hostel is the space in the rooms, really narrow and makes it complicated to circulate if several people are up. Apart from that, I'd definitely recommend this place !

very disappointed as been coming here occasionally after work for a 5 min pint. but on this occasion i was refused service as i wasnt a guest of hostel. never happened to me before and it was before midnight. lazy service. disaster

It was a really awful breakfast. The hash brown tasted of fish. The sausage was dry. The egg was overcooked. I am sure they The food had been fried in old used oil. I am sorry to have to leave this review. The person behind the bar who served me was very lovely

Visiting IWM and came across the place by chance. Wasn't expecting too much as for London very reasonably priced. Good atmosphere but the burgers were much better than expected and really were amongst the best I have had. Will certainly go back if in the area

Wasn’t sure what to expect at the price in London but pleasantly surprised sums it up. The room was spacious well decorated and clean. The bed looked less comfortable than it proved. The en suite was good with an excellent shower. WiFi signal was excellent and easy to access. No TV in the room but for just over £40 in central London what can one expect. Area was reasonably quiet but Chinese over the road Seveni was a true eating experience guessing from a Chinese menu with pictures. Great stay - ask for room 5 and you get a good room at a great price.

Had a lovely stay here, staff are really friendly, food is good but the veggie breakfast was a massive let down, certainly not worth £9.50. The sweet corn fritters weren't fritters and it was a little too spicy for breakfast. I'll probably opt for an English breakfast without meat next time as it's more for your money and really tasty. Other than that, the vegan burger was amazing and was some of the nicest vegan food I've had in a long time :) Looking forward to coming back.

Pedimos burgers cheesus christ, que estavam muito saborosos e vieram acompanhados de batatas fritas caseiras. Ambiente típico ingles e bastante agradável. Preço razoável para a qualidade apresentada. Très bon accueil même avec notre arrivée tardive. Court séjour de 2 nuits mais dortoir au top ! Très bonne literie, douches propres. Autres clients très respectueux, pub très convivial :) Je recommande autant pour la qualité que pour le prix !!!
