Stayed here for 5 nights with my boyfriend in September of 2024. We had an averagely good experience, but didn’t expect much as we definitely booked based on location (5 min walk from the tube) and rates at the time we looked for a place to stay (about 3 months in advance of travel). It was honestly “just fine”. They have Hot showers that go on forever, daily cleaning from a lovely attendant, food and drinks are available 24/7, and they have some pretty cool staff! Grace especially stood out with her consistent professionalism, genuine smile, and warm energy. . . Even when I was bit clueless and accidentally made her job harder, she was a standup guy. Truly Ace! There was also a blonde woman with glasses who was a joy to interact with, though I regret I didn’t get her name as I didn’t see her after she checked us in our first day. However, here are some details that may actually be important to you: we saw many guests of all ages, including young adults with their parents, etc, so it’s an age-inclusive hostel, which I think is great! However, I’m only 28 and the bunk beds in room one threw my back out after the first night. . . Which isn’t something I struggle with. The mattresses bore the pronounced impressions of many MANY *heavy* bodies sleeping on them. . . Or they were just old af. 🤣 in addition to that, the bathroom floor is literally always wet because of the showers, and you have to make sure there is soap and paper *before* you go (made that mistake too many times 😮‍💨) because they only get tended 1x/day. The pub is the only common space to *chill*, beside your bunk, but they have board games, music, and food available always (plus drinks!) I’m sure it would be the perfect spot for some, for us, it was a warm bed with a safe place to keep our things as we caught as many rush tickets in the West End that we could. All in all, I’d stay there again (but on a different bunk/mattress), but as an introverted person who doesn’t consume alcohol anymore, I’d prefer a place with a communal kitchen, lounge, or some such quieter place to interact with other guests. (Unrelated to the hostel, buuuuuut advice for theater goers: Screw TodayTix, just go to the box office of the show you want to see 1hr before the performance time and ask what tix they have left. If you’re willing to sit by yourself, you can get even better deals than the last minute tix they want to sell.)

The hostel is very picturesque, I liked the concept of a Pub and a hostel at the same time, friendly staff, very well located, the bathroom a little dirty, in my experience a good hostel to stay one night, good places around

Great place in every way for the money you’re paying. Staff is wonderful, food is good. Rooms are what they are, a dorm is a door. Location great, 20min walk to main attractions etc.

We had a great time staying at the steam engine. It's a cute hostel and the people working there are so so nice and helpful! We felt very welcome :) Plus the food is amazing and the very large english breakfast is indeed very large but adds perfectly to the london experience. Special thanks to Daniel and Amy who were very kind and did a great job helping us!

What an interesting and homey place! The staff is top notch and location is perfect for a walk to most of the London locations you might want to see.

Two nights 8/24-8/25, I recently stayed at the Steam Engine Hostel and had a fantastic experience. I arrived late at night, and although I was tired from my journey, the night shift staff member (possibly named Demetrius) made the check-in process seamless and stress-free. He went above and beyond to help me settle in, showing exceptional kindness and compassion, which I will never forget. The rooms were clean and comfortable, making my stay even more pleasant. Overall, the Steam Engine Hostel provided a welcoming and hospitable environment. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great place to stay!

The worst hostel I have ever stayed in. The bathrooms were flooding, everything was wet and they had a very bad smell. The worst of all was that my backpack with all my things was stolen while it was locked in the designated lockers. The hostel manager was no help, saying she would call the police to include additional information but never did. They didn't have a clear protocol for these situations and they had the audacity to say that it was my responsibility to make sure they didn't rob me in there. All this happened in less than ten minutes after leaving the room. I don't recommend it to anyone. They are concealers of thieves.

I stayed here in 2016 and it was the worst accommodation I have ever stayed in. Lots of noise, dirty and unfriendly staff. I was staying for 3 nights but on the first night I already booked another hotel.

Iv been coming here for over two years but it will be the last time I ever come to this place, after staff making the mistake of not checking me in the same bed two nights in a row I was spoken to very rudely and told to take my luggage with me and check in later when I asked if it was possible to leave my luggage in a locker in the dorm I was due to move into I was told no, I wasn't allowed to leave anything at the property even tho I had stayed the the past two nights. The rudeness of the staff caused me to have a huge anxiety attack, and I even collapsed as I was threatened with the police after being told there were no other members of staff to talk to, I will not be returning after experiencing intolerable and rude behaviour from their staff

Had a really relaxed & comfortable night recently. Staff were super friendly, pints were great & rooms remained fresh & cool even though it was 30° outside!

Booked this on very short notice for a concert, parking is available nearby, great safe location within waterloo and walking distance from most central london attractions. The staff were helpful and friendly. Located near both Lambeth North and Waterloo tube stations and all for a very reasonable price. Would stay again.

Definitely rate this place!! Really friendly especially Daniel who I've had on both nights around 11 onwards and I've had a really hard time with partner in hospital nearby but he's been super kind and helpful and it's really good value for a hostel this central, rainfall shower?!! That's luxury. Bed cosy enough and all clean- I've had some nightmare hostels so thisnhas been the perfect spot for getting that needed rest! Wooo go Daniel and the team for being great. (Also great drinks options!)

Chilled place for a drink or even stay for a night..

In general good, the rooms are very small to accommodate up to 12 people, the black man at the entrance yelled at my friends for making a mistake and entering through the emergency door, which they made a mistake since it is not even to guide you, it is necessary clean the rooms.

It’s a cute and lovely pub. There isn't a huge variety of beers, but they seem to have some hip ones on hand, and the female staff are especially friendly. It was quieter than other pubs during the day and the food was delicious, so I often went there for lunch :)

The hostel is very well located. There is a 15-minute walk from Big Ben. The rooms I stayed in are mixed. I had no problems with this and I also didn't see anything that could discredit this fact. The bed is very comfortable. Pillow and duvet too! The service is impeccable! The girls at the reception/pub are super friendly and helpful. The bathroom, which is also mixed, is good. Clean and organized. The only negative points are: 1) not having curtains on the bunk beds (I think this is the minimum when we talk about a hostel); 2) the door is next to the bunk beds and the overhead spring for closing is unregulated. This meant that, every time a person left the door, it would knock very loudly, disturbing their sleep.

Positive: Location is perfect, close to the subway. Staff at the reception/bar were nice. Comfortable mattress and pilow. There is an outlet with usb to charge cellphone on each bed. The pub downstairs is really nice. Negative: GIRLS AND BOYS SHARE THE SAME WASHING ROOM (SHOWER AND RESTROOM) I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS IN ANY HOSTEL I HAD BEEN IN MY LIFE!!!! My blanket was smelling bad as if it was washed without soap. The iron room lockers were pretty small and noisy. Too much light inside the room coming from the windows. The 3 bed bunckers are smal between them and the highest was so hard to go up and go down. There was no air conditioner, just a couple of fans on the floor. If you want to turn on the lights, you have only 2 option: or you turn on the entire room or not. There was no outlet in the bathroom. The washing room was disgusting and stinking, the sink was clogged and is so small. The sink drain was disgusting. No breakfast included. Conclusion: Only to sleep for 2 nights maximum is fine. What makes the hostels a better environment are the people and I wasnt lucky. But they MUST to improve cleaning and put some rules and chek them in the room and bathroom.

I spend one night in the hostel/pub. The place is nice and the pub is opened 24/7. The services changes quite frequently, some of the people are nicer than others. The rooms are quite busy and smelly, due to the amount of people inside, but the furniture is quite new. The shared toilets are okish (without any toilet paper and as the showers are inside the same room the floor is permanently soaked.

It was great! I couldn't have chosen a better place. Good experience, with good people. Everyone treated me super well.

I booked this for a birthday, due to an activity nearby. The staff were incredibly helpful and accommodating, polite and humane throughout. I booked the outdoor space for the group and it was such a good space for a group of up to 20. We had so much fun. We brought a speaker, the garden had heaters and cover from the rain. Well considered space. And the staff! Such chill people. Stored a huge birthday cake for us, read the instructions and took it out of fridge at the right time before serving it. They provider everything I asked for! Even a spatula! The devil is in the detail when it comes to customer service and I appreciate the service we got. The staff here are really lovely people. The food was also good and good prices!

Friendly staff. Nice friendly atmosphere. Everyone chatting and playing board games. Not cheap, but this is central London.

The food is great, a relaxed atmosphere. Called in on our way back from the Imperial War Museum to Waterloo Station. I do not usually eat Burgers but these were so attractive, had to have one. Glad I did!

We were just pub hopping when we ran across this place close to our hotel. Though our expectations (as American burger aficionados) weren’t especially high, we were amazed at how delicious the smash burger was! Definitely worth a visit.

£21.40 for a double rum and coke and a cider?! Ended up having the one and buying a bottle of rum and a few cans for less. Didn't use the rooms etc

I have not been there for a while. Thd service is still good but the worst burger even. The food just gone down hill do much.

We were in room 3 on the first floor. Sleeping is quite complicated because there is a lot of commotion from people who are going to work or coming, or from the kids themselves who are partying. The beds are not bad but there are curtains Each one has a charging plug You have a locker in your room to store your luggage (you need a lock and it fits 2 normal backpacks) downstairs they also store your luggage if you need it. The toilets are quite dirty, it seems like they are cleaned once a day (I feel like 3 showers and 2 toilets) for the entire room (36 people) of the 3 nights I showered, 2 the water came out cold. It is good that it is economical but if you pay something, it must be under conditions.

Well located hostel, the rooms are small but well equipped. I had planned earplugs for the night but frankly, it wasn't necessary (Monday evening), the staff is friendly, there is the possibility of buying some supplies at reception if we need them something (adaptor, towel, toothbrush, etc.)

For the price and location you can't ask for much, the cleanliness of the bathrooms needs to improve

Personally my experience has not been good; At first impression, the bar looks quite good since it is typical for customers who are not staying there to consume it. As for the rest, I didn't like it at all. The toilets were always dirty and pretty. The beds are comfortable but the rooms are not cleaned properly either. There are no lights in the bed. There is a lot of constant noise. As for employees, the receptionists are very friendly. I will not return, and I do not recommend for the price. Anyway. 1 star.

The location great. You can go Westminster Bridge only 2 mins. There are 2-3 diff markets. The facility has no common kitchen but they offer something in the bar. There are only 2 toilet at the flat. Some of the time they were very dirty.

Back at the Steam Engine and a nice selection of beers on tap. The Cherry Forever Sour is amazing

Good features, the rooms are comfortable as are the bathrooms. The place is quite clean. It has a place to eat and the hamburgers are recommended.

This hostel exceeded my expectations in every way. Not only was it impeccably clean, but it was also well-managed, ensuring a hassle-free stay. Its proximity to tourist attractions was a major plus, making it convenient to explore the city without wasting time on commuting. I stayed in an all-female 9-bed dormitory, luckily with respectful neighbours. There is the occasional snorer, but no one that turns on the main light in the middle of the night or noisy stompers. The dormitory had a modern feel, with comfortable beds and wall sockets for phones right by each bed. This hostel truly sets the gold standard for budget accommodation.

Cons: The door lock in the 2nd floor washroom wasn't working well and i got stuck there for like 10 minutes trying to open it. i had to call the place and a staff helped me out. There are very different prices on different app on agoda it's listed as £13 per night on the other hand the same room is about £37 per night. So, make sure you see all the websites listing before booking online. Pros: The staffs are very experienced and friendly especially one young woman i developed a crush on. Room, Washroom & Showers are clean and my room was relatively quite so i had a good sleep.

Stay for a few days. The Place Is lovely, you can find a small restaurant downstairs and the burgers are delicious 🍔 Plenty draught beers which is appreciated! The main drawback at this hostel is the space in the rooms, really narrow and makes it complicated to circulate if several people are up. Apart from that, I'd definitely recommend this place !

very disappointed as been coming here occasionally after work for a 5 min pint. but on this occasion i was refused service as i wasnt a guest of hostel. never happened to me before and it was before midnight. lazy service. disaster

It was a really awful breakfast. The hash brown tasted of fish. The sausage was dry. The egg was overcooked. I am sure they The food had been fried in old used oil. I am sorry to have to leave this review. The person behind the bar who served me was very lovely

Visiting IWM and came across the place by chance. Wasn't expecting too much as for London very reasonably priced. Good atmosphere but the burgers were much better than expected and really were amongst the best I have had. Will certainly go back if in the area

Wasn’t sure what to expect at the price in London but pleasantly surprised sums it up. The room was spacious well decorated and clean. The bed looked less comfortable than it proved. The en suite was good with an excellent shower. WiFi signal was excellent and easy to access. No TV in the room but for just over £40 in central London what can one expect. Area was reasonably quiet but Chinese over the road Seveni was a true eating experience guessing from a Chinese menu with pictures. Great stay - ask for room 5 and you get a good room at a great price.

Had a lovely stay here, staff are really friendly, food is good but the veggie breakfast was a massive let down, certainly not worth £9.50. The sweet corn fritters weren't fritters and it was a little too spicy for breakfast. I'll probably opt for an English breakfast without meat next time as it's more for your money and really tasty. Other than that, the vegan burger was amazing and was some of the nicest vegan food I've had in a long time :) Looking forward to coming back.

Pedimos burgers cheesus christ, que estavam muito saborosos e vieram acompanhados de batatas fritas caseiras. Ambiente típico ingles e bastante agradável. Preço razoável para a qualidade apresentada. typical English pub well run, clean and tidy. during our London holiday I went there twice; the first for dinner with the family, the second for an after dinner the evening before departure. excellent hamburgers and a large list of beers

Had a drink and bar lunch at this Pub whilst staying at the Days Hotel. To be honest the beer was fine but the Xmas brunch menu was poor and pricey.

I feel bad leaving this review. The staff behind the bar were lovely and very apologetic for the shambles. However, we ended up leaving an hour and a half after ordering lunch without eating. We visited for lunch on Sunday (15 December). The pub offers a nice sounding but limited menu. It's basically burgers, either chicken or beef, with fries and a selection of toppings for the fries. I think there were a few salads as well. I tried to order a fried breakfast which the menu said was available until 6pm however it was not on. That was fine and I was happy to order a burger and loaded fries. We were a table of 6 and the first person's food arrived an hour after we had ordered. One more meal arrived every ten minutes for another half hour until the last two of us gave up and cancelled our order. There was a large table next to us who also had their food delivered bit by bit over an hour and eventually cancelled the last dishes. The worst thing though was the fact that we were sitting about three feet from the open kitchen. There were two chefs there at the beginning, a younger guy and an older guy, part way through the older man was replaced by another man who was clearly far better and got things moving. If the kitchen staff are not competent they should not be on display. In the time we were there we witnessed: - the older man and younger man arguing over orders. - several dishes cooked wrongly piling up on the service area covered by plates to hide the mistakes. - the waitress telling the chefs off for taking "at least an hour" to prepare orders. - the older chef spending a full minute (we timed it) positioning a tomato slice on a burger bun. - the younger man holding a burger bun while the older man spooned salsa onto it (not really a two man job). - salsa being thrown all over the serving area. - the replacement chef shouting at the younger man that they had had £100 in refunds the day before and £200 today and "how could he say he'd worked in hotels and restaurants when he worked like this". - burgers being taken apart after being made to add missed ingredients. - orders coming out of the electronic order machine and piling up on the side with neither man even looking at them. - the waitress returning to repeat orders multiple times and being completely ignored. By the end we were laughing because it was so farcical. I can't comment too much on the quality of the food because I didn't have much. The portions increased and the quality seemed to improve a lot when the replacement chef started cooking (because of the long delay some of us had food cooked by the original team and some by the replacement). The chips served to my friend who got his plate first were undercooked to the point of being raw and his burger was overdone. The loaded fries which came last were nice but by that point we were so hungry almost anything would have seemed amazing. When my husband was getting a refund the waitress was apologetic and said it wasn't usually like that, she asked if we'd been before so I guess she was hoping we had seen that they could do better. Based on the reviews on here they clearly can as others have not had the same experience but I can only review what I experienced. To improve they need to (a) either train or replace the kitchen team or give them some proper training and (b) either close off the open kitchen or not put staff there who can't act professionally in front of customers.

Jeg fik deres avokado breakfast bagel, men der var næsten intet avokado i. Ellers var bollen helt fin og æggene var lækre. Betjeningen var fin, og det var deres priser også. Stemningen var meget hyggelig i restauranten og musikken var dejlig nedtonet, så man stadig kunne snakke.

This place has amazing burgers with juicey patties. Nice filling meal but i feel the loaded fries are average for the topping you get.

I went here last night with my husband as we were staying in the hotel next door. We knew the food in the hotel wasnt great but didnt want to go far.We had 2 sloppy Joseph Burgers with chips. We thought they would be just run of the mill burgers but was pleasantly surprised that they were homemade and very good.There were lots of different beers on pump as well as a very large choice of other drinks.We will definitely be coming back.

Should of gone to McDonald’s is certainly true we went and are food was cold and chips were over cooked. They tried taking our plates while we were still eating I certainly will not be going there again!!

We stayed here for 2 nights and it was a great hostel! The drinks were super cheap and very generous and the staff here are lovely! Good vibes! Unfortunately I wouldn’t recommend the breakfast though. Everything else was top notch!

La comida estaba fría, carecía de sabor y tomaron los platos casi vacíos antes de que cualquiera de las otras personas en nuestra mesa terminara, incluso cuando mi papá estaba comiendo su hamburguesa, ¡tomaron el plato que llegó debajo de su barbilla! Déjame empezar con me encantan las hamburguesas. Jaja americano típico pero creo que aprecio una buena hamburguesa más que el promedio. Mi prometida dijo que tenían hamburguesas premiadas después de que ya estuviéramos en Inglaterra y de cierto modo puse los ojos en blanco. Bueno, definitivamente se probaron a sí mismos. Lleno de sabor y los sabores se complementan. También las papas a la plancha cargadas son EPIC. Ellos no tienen eso de vuelta en los Estados Unidos. Las camas son cómodas y todo el mundo fue muy agradable. Tienen casilleros pero se rompen fácilmente al parecer. La única razón para dar 4 estrellas y no 5 es que me puse un poco nerviosa después de que nuestros compañeros de la entrada tuvieran objetos de valor y dinero que alguien había tomado. El personal hizo todo lo que pudo y parecía complacer a los huéspedes. De ninguna manera culpar al hostal. Simplemente te hace un poco más paranoico en unas vacaciones relajantes.

He estado en este pub varias veces y siempre me ha impresionado. Está un poco escondido en una calle lateral, pero no dejes que eso te desanime. Tiene un ambiente relajado, asientos cómodos y sirve deliciosas hamburguesas. La selección de cerveza artesanal también es muy buena.

Pas mal de s’eloigner du centre pour trouver de bonnes adresses. Celle-ci est à ne pas manquer... accueil, plats, cadre en font un pub à découvrir sans restrictions!

Tenía la hamburguesa de queso con tocino extra y fue una de las mejores hamburguesas que he comido. Especialmente el sabor ahumado del encuentro y el bollo suave. Las papas cortadas a mano también fueron increíbles y varias salsas vinieron gratis. Sin duda, un gran restaurante con un interior auténtico, excelentes comidas y un servicio amable.

Stayed at the days inn next door and needed somewhere to eat. The burgers and chips were great along with the popcorn chicken. The prices were very reasonable at only £10 for the burger and chips. Great night would recommend.

Came here for a drink or two like you do ended up with a burger called the juicy bas!!!d and upgraded my fries to hot and dirty food was great some of the fries were crispy but I like that each to there own burger was fantastic .

Burger and chips and you happily serve up burnt chips. Bad start. Burger ok at best. Service mediocre. Overall not good enough. No excuse for burnt chips even at a pub. Improve your standards this isn’t the 1980s.

Certainly not cheap, or clean. Seem to think quirky become quality. Beer choice is/was fine and I do quite understand excess costs in London dictate £4.50 per pint but food menu, charge the same, just improve the quality, and standard of service

We found this pub after discovering that our restaurant of choice was closed. We had ordered the fish and chips burger requesting no bun and a salad instead of chips. We also ordered a juicy burger with tomato and salad. We had two different lagers. The help was very acommodating and the food was yummy. As far as pubs go it was average in abiance.

Visited 6/8/2018. Needed something quick to eat while wandering around the area. We are so very glad we found this place. The burgers were amazing. Not too expensive - didn't take long for the food to arrive. Nice atmosphere - I will recommend this to anyone else I know who visits London.

Tranquilo pequeño pub sirve cerveza fría. Hay una cocina adjunta que sirve comidas, hamburguesas una especialidad. Sabrosa, muy bien servido con patatas fritas, hay muchas variaciones para acomodar la mayoría de los gustos. Conveniente para nuestras necesidades nos quedamos encantados de visitar. A un precio razonable, mi razonamiento es que si la gente como él, entonces no es tan malo.

Nice atmosphere, and traditional pub feel but the food is a mystery. The burgers are hand made with quality ingredients and they taste great. But they’ve no idea how to run a kitchen. A simple burger order took ages (20 mins plus) and the place was relatively quiet. As per a previous review, food sat under a hot lamp for a long time waiting for everything to arrive (cold fries as a result) and the chef was using pictures to decide which ingredients to use.

Mi marido y yo estamos alojando en el Days Hotel Waterloo. Este pub está escondido detrás del hotel. Salimos para el día y necesitaba una comida rápida fácil! El pub ofrecieron hamburguesas así que pensamos probarlo. Necesitábamos un gluten comida gratis y no tienen gluten bollos gratis, así que el chef nos prepararon una increíble ensalada de pollo con vinagreta de balsámico aliño. Estaba delicioso! We arrived at The Steam Engine dripping wet during some very heavy rain. Lovely welcoming young lady at the bar plus a very tasty burger salad & chips - Great!

Trust me, enjoy the experience of an original english breakfast in this lovely pub! Good service and perfect food!

Great burgers - we liked everything - we visited as a family of six (teens above 16) - service was good too

Nous sommes allés à 6 dans ce restaurant un peu excentré, on y arrive pas par hasard. Le déplacement vaut le détour. Accueil chaleureux. Les produits travaillés pour chaque commande quasiment devant vous (cuisine attenante) sont frais, les frites maison un grand choix de bière. Un conseil mieux vaut être patient en cas de forte affluence. Je recommande

Right across the corner of the Day's Hotel Waterloo. Loved the ambience, rice was decent, food was lovely. Suggestion would be to include a couple of Veg items :)

Yo estuve en la siguiente puerta para trabajar y vimos este pub cuando estaba buscando donde comer. Tiene un ambiente joven y estaba lleno cuando llegamos tarde. Tuve el tocino y papas fritas Mexi Cali dude la hamburguesa era muy agradable, sin saltarte las patatas fritas como en realidad cargado la próxima vez prefiero chapuzón mi patatas fritas y salsa de guacamole y el fresco hizo que las patatas fritas más frío más rápida que habrían hecho lo contrario. Creo que la presentación podría haber sido un poco mejores que las de salsa más blobs del Zig Zag drizzles (ver foto)? Disfruté de mi comida y calidad no dudaría en volver si yo estaba en la zona.

Entrati alle 8pm ed ordinato alle 8.20pm ...... dopo 80 minuti di attesa sono arrivati hamburger passabili con patatine immangiabili! Forse fritte al mattino ma quando sono state servite di fritto non avevano più nulla! Molli ed unte! Birra nella media di Londra. Certamente non torneremo

We had two beautiful and tasty burgers in the Steam Engine. I’d recommend this place to everyone who visits the area. Very friendly service too!
