Excellent pub, friendly welcome from all the staff. Their knowledge of the local area was fantastic and we were delighted to find such a fabulous watering hole after a beautiful meander through some of this area’s ancient industrial past. One special attraction was the book area where you could pick up a book by the fire and relax. We would definitely recommend and will visit again when in the area. Friends from Cardiff - look forward to seeing you again!

Great welcome from friendly staff as soon as we arrived. Lots of choices for the starters, mains and desserts and a homemade Pie Menu too. Buckingham pie was delicious and would thoroughly recommend as were spring rolls. Each dish was well presented and excellent portion sizes. Steaks were tasty but a bit over cooked for ‘ rare’ and some of the veg were a little too al dente but this didn’t in anyway reflect on the enjoyment we had. Definitely going to call in again, probably try a lunchtime treat out or event out with friends

New management have obviously changed staff as after a snowy walk to Pen Y Fan we stopped off and were warmly welcomed with our dog into the bar area. Local staff drinking and visitors dining nearby. It’s right about the menu, a bit average sounding, and after another review on ggl mentioned the specials/pie menu... wow! Really nice meal! Pie was great! Chips were plentiful and they even gave us on-house sausages for our dog! Thatchers cider was a refreshing necessity but the only downside was there wasn’t a large real ale supply... would be great to see this pub on CAMRA ;)

After parking by the hotel and walking from Cefn-coed viaduct to historic church we (6 of us) stopped off for a snack and a drink. Settled down in the pleasant lounge room for a superb cheese and onion 'toasty' and fab Czechoslovakian beer (zero chemical lager). Other in party had various sandwiches and all agreed the quality was above standard. Publican very helpful and we shall make a point to frequent again.

This is one of those special, secret places the locals don't tell you about. Ignore the main menu. Pick a delicious pie from the specials board. I had a steak pie filled with rich gravey and a perfectly-poured pint of cider on a quiet Sunday. At least four or five amazingly good and varied vegetarian options; my wife had a three-cheese, potato and mushroom pie served with peas and a generous portion of well-prepared, "proper" chips.

We arrived exhausted and sticky from our long cycle ride, hungry and in need of large glasses of water on this hottest of days. We got what we needed and ordered pies, which were very tasty, with interesting combinations of ingredients, eg chicken and ham (rather than usual mushroom) and the beef pie ("Haymaker") had spinach and other additions. We chatted with the owners, and were looked after really well, including someone keeping an eye on our bikes.
