Lovely food brilliant service 👌

Homemade Veg patties + Portugal bread= killer grub. I think my server was still learning and there was some miscommunication with follow-up by me, but it was sorted eventually (American bias).

Nicely decorated and service was friendly and quick Food was nice but felt down by the ‘tempura battered king prawns’ which were the cheap frozen supermarket variety. 4 for £7-8 felt like a rip. The rest of the food appeared made from scratch so unsure why they took this cheat route on that starter

We came to The New Crown as a party of 10 and had a great evening. The team were super helpful throughout the booking process, the food and service were perfect and there's a good variety of food on the menu, including Portuguese and vegan options.

Had a great espetada with peri peri. Tender and juicy. Yum

Absolutely first class dining ..Food was hot and delicious..Janin our waitress was so friendly and efficient.. Couldn't do enough to make sure we were happy.. She is expert when it comes to our drinks...Never let us run out and table sevice was brilliant...All in all we will definitely dine again and highly recommend this restaurant.. We eat out alot and are very particular..Forgot to mention I always check for clean toilets...these were spotless..Thank you for making our anniversary meal a lovely experience.

Today we took a group of young people for a celebration. We wanted them to try lots of new foods and flavours! The food was wonderful, the staff were kind and lovely and explained the menu and all the lovely food dishes! We all can not wait to come back. Highly recommend the prawns and sardines.

Absolutely loved our visit service was quick and tasted amazing and we were shocked how little the bill was we deffo be returning 😀

Good food but a little slow with tge service

Brilliant place to go. Food is Portuguese inspired and really delicious. I especially recommend the hanging kababs. Run by a lovely family, they will look after you.

10/10 got double cheeseburger with prawn side and it was absolutely delicious

Always a great night at the new crown. It has a very nicely decorated eating area and with plenty of space with seating and bars its a local favourite. Much time and effort has been has been spent to ensure a certain quality throughout the establishment. Staff are very friendly and helpful. It's hard to find better gastro pubs in merthyr. The food is excellent 👌 with some signature dishes and vegan options everyone will be catered for. A definite local or stop to make on a night out. Date night, lads night or quick stop it's a great place to grab a bite and a drink. Not to mention the many music and other functions they cater for.

Went there for a works birthday. Enjoyed it. Ate and drunk well. In fact a few pubs later, couldn't remember a thing. Good night.

My poor rating is based on the days that Jorge isn't at the pub. The website to order drinks/food doesn't work. The waitresses don't care about clients, they even ignore them. Last time I was there my friends and I got up from our table and went somewhere else, because nobody cared about us.

Great food, beautiful setting and atmosphere, with a live singer. The only reason I didn't give the food a five was because they gave me mozzarella on my bruschetta rather than feta!!

Been here a couple of times and each time had the orders mixed up, the service and food is great... when you finally get what your ordered.

I had the battered fish with chips. The batter in the fish was awful. It was hard and dark brown in colour.

Great service and very good food . My wife ordered the seafood omlette but they didn't have so switched to seafood salad for no extra charge . Very impressed and would recommend 👍

Popped in for a pint and a meal after going up Pen Y Fan, didn't disappoint.

The food at this place is delightful, and our waitress was exceptional, displaying excellent knowledge in serving us.

Really lovely place to eat or just have a drink. Massively different to when I last visited as have had a big facelift. Really impressed and a good range of drinks including non alcoholic so I didn't have to sit and drink coke the whole time

Loved The New Crown so much we came two nights in a row. The 1st night we had only just arrived in Merthyr Tydfil on a very busy Saturday night and didn't have a booking. The owner very kindly squeezed us in. It had a lovely buzzy atmosphere, the staff were friendly and efficient and the food was delicious and plentiful. The 2nd night was equally good. The chicken Espetada on the portugese part of the menu was really yummy and the Scampi was great too both with excellent chips. Desserts were great too.

Super friendly staff, we felt very welcomed. They are dog friendly, so was the perfect place for us. Big variety of delicious vegan food. We will repeat!!

Got a table even though not booked, got to say that the service from the girls was exceptional, we were not kept waiting, food very good & atmosphere superb, wish we lived local just to have the Crown to eat at (from Chester).

Was visiting the Brecon Beacons and was able to book really easy online. Parking right outside the back entrance. Food was lovely! For our main we all had chicken espatadas, nice big chunks of chicken, peppers all flame grilled with a generous portion of chips and side salad. Starters were lovely also - we had olives, Portuguese bread, chicken wings and cheesy garlic bread. We ordered on the app, food came quickly and was nice and hot. We had some of the house cocktails which were lush. The service from the two girls that looked after us was fantastic and they made our little frenchie feel welcome. Would come again if I’m ever in the area.

This place is stunning. Food was amazing. Fast service and they were really friendly and happy to help.

Really good food, did ask for something to be removed from the burger but knew when the waitress looked at me glazed over my dish was coming out with it on. Waitress who took our order just whizzed by all night seemingly avoiding us after the dish came out wrong. Other staff were pick g up the slack and were spot on. Busy for a Wednesday night with a good atmosphere. Good food, good beer just the service was a little slow.

Great discovery. Never been there before and only visited because of good reviews. Food was great, staff was fab, place cosy and very well decorated. The only complaint is for the ladies toilets- lots of spider webs, dust on the lights, dirty floor- it felt like it needs a good scrub and clean top to bottom.

Fantastic discovery. Drove up from Blackwood having seen the good reviews online. Parked in college car park and within ten minutes arrived at the pub. Staff were very courteous and inside had a good vibe furnished very nicely. The food was excellent and no complaints I had corned beef pie,chips and peas wife had chicken skewers with salad and chips. Both agreed excellent hope to revisit in near future

What a GEM in Merthyr! Best place to enjoy quality food also have a great variety of food. Also the food quality and quantity is fantastic. Prices are fair and very good in todays money! The atmosphere is like no other full of noise and laughs. It’s got a very bistro/pub feeling about it very cosy! Also cocktails are up there with the best places. You can’t miss this place, it’s a hidden gem in Merthyr and we will definitely be back!

We stopped over in Merthyr as a ‘half way’ point between Gower and Abergavenny. It is really good to see how this town is rejuvenating itself. Our lunch was very pleasant, the staff were well trained and attentive. The Portuguese food was tasty but my only slight criticism was that with the mixed skewer and grilled chicken, the meat was over cooked and dry which was a shame and why I took away one star. The whole point with the inverted skewers is that the juices drip down and baste the meat but there were no juices at all! Other than that we had a really nice ‘stopover’.

Had a wonderful dinner today at the New Crown, food was hot and really lovely. The decor is beautiful, very welcoming and cosy, especially the hanging flowers! We were sat inside in a lovely private area, although the outside eating area is just as beautiful. Hope to visit again in the future, would definitely recommend!

First time for me to visit pub and wasn't too sure what to expect!!! The pub was very nicely decorated and furnished the staff were very pleasant and obliging -- professional. We had starters and mains all was nicely presented and tasted lovely and plentiful, we were too full to have a sweet but they too looked nice in presentation cabinet. I'm sure we will be returning there soon.

Went to merthyr to watch the rugby league. Popped in here after reading some great reviews. Great welcome from the friendly staff. It was very busy but managed to find us a table. Great service. Food was amazing and very tasty. I had the pirinpiri chicken. The Chicken was moist with a lovely piri kit to it. Other had the fish. The fish was huge and tasty a perfect crisp batter. Will definitely be going here again when we are up for the rugby league. Great food. Great service. Great atmosphere and a great price.

Haven’t been here for a few years. What a difference to the decor. It’s beautiful, a pleasure to be there. Everything went smoothly. Had a lovely waitress. Food was lush. Definitely returning.

Great food and overall experience. I had the sausage mash, and it was one of the best meals I had in all my time in the UK. Really cool feel to the place - updated old pub. Bar is extensive, and the people were really nice. The food took a little longer than we would have liked, but it was a busy Sunday afternoon so we understand. All in all, highly recommend.

Took 96mins for my burger to arrive. Was told the food could take up to 45mins. It took twice that long. It's a great place and the service are doing the best they can but they're simply isn't enough staff for somewhere so busy. The food is very overpriced for what's received. Do not get the halloumi kebab. It's about £5 worth of food for £14 or so.

Really good value for money. Lots of vegan/veggie options. Also bumped on a blues (local?) band on a Sunday afternoon and was lovely. It's open, even if it might look close! About 2min walk form Tesco carpark.

Great place to visit for a quiet drink

Everything was fantastic, including the atmosphere and food. Go for the Portuguese food for a truly unique experience in Wales. Oh, and our waiter was a delightful young man who made some killer coffees! Great experience all the way around.

Very good food and exceptional staff. Good atmosphere in the evenings but not really set up for live music, can be a little intrusive. But overall a great pub.

What a fantastic find, the food is exceptionally good, all the staff are courteous and obviously well trained.

Decent food in here for sure. Our waiter was absolutely delightful. Really lovely guy. Unfortunately there was a kids party in the same room so it was a little busy & noisy.

Service was unorganised and unapologetic after our food order was messed up. We ordered food 215 pm. One of our meals came, couple of minutes later, cutlery and another meal came... Waited for the 3rd meal... After asking 2 of the staff where the last meal was, we were told the order wasn't there. I showed my receipt and they said, ah right... Do you still want it?! One hour after the initial order was placed, we eventually had the last meal and no apology. Good was OK. One step up from wetherspoons, hardly worth the long wait.

Went there Saturday for a family member 18th birthday party. Food and service was excellent! Beautiful venue, highly recommend!

Been here a few times now and good is always fab! Best of all they serve REAL chips here too. Fab prices, good value for money, great atmosphere and cab service. Will be back soon x

Food was tasty. However, I don't think they can justify almost £17 for duck rice. As a Portuguese person, I will not go back for Portuguese food. Francesinha sauce, which is probably the main ingredient, was nothing but a tomato sauce.

After waiting patiently for 45 minutes, questioned where food was. Told that kitchen had closed and orders had been missed due to buzzer not being heard due to band tuning up. Explained hadn't eaten since lunch but no alternative offered other than a complimentary drink. Unacceptable! Asked for full refund but told had to leave immediately as not to listen to band. Businesses in Merthyr are supposedly struggling but not surprising if this is level of service being offered. Only seem to cater for younger generations rather than those older folk with disposable incomes.

Food was lovely, nice selection of drinks not expensive and very good entertainment.. Be warned though getting a taxi from there was a nightmare on a Saturday night have 1 pre-booked for midnight in my opinion.

Corned beef pie was a bit disappointing (too much mash & not enough corned beef, and very tough pastry), but the rest of the food was OK. Good atmosphere & busy, which is usually a good sign!

Server was super accommodating considering we hadn't booked. Decor and cleanliness is beautiful. Coffee was served super hot-usually I'm served luke warm so this was a lovely surprise. Meals were cooked to perfection, with REAL chips. Will definitely visit again.
