Dissapointing NO HOT Water To many Drongos Unemployed no hopers I only Rate it HALF A STAR

Went for Christmas dinner with a social group service excellent food first class plenty of side dishes of vegetables starter very nice nice presentation main course service and staff very good 4th year now and and still as nice as first time highly recomened

I came for a night to Merthyr Tydfil and decided it would be a good idea to spend a night in The Castle Hotel, WORST DECISION OF MY LIFE!!! Got in and booked a room for roughly £130 for the night, for this price I believed I would be getting a good room and a good nights sleep. When I headed to my room later that night after having a go around the town, I met a man in the hallway on the 2nd floor, eating a "chickenland" burger who then offered me to purchased a telly for £10. I ignored the man and continued to my room where to my horror I opened the door and was greated with the sight of brown poo stains all over the walls and on the bed. Long story short, I ran from that hotel faster than I've ever ran in my life. Would not recommend to even my worst enemy, Darnell.

My work colleagues meet here for lunch every month , we are all now retired and it is a great place for us to meet and enjoy the excellent food,

Party of 7 - Called in for lunch today . We were amazed at the prompt table service and huge compliments to all staff and Chef for 7 great lunches. We all really enjoyed the food and will return again and again. Good value,Good service and Good quality food. Overall Excellent Special Thanks to the waitress who was also tending bar and reception, fantastic! I’m trying the daily roast dinner next time! To the Boss you have excellent staff they all deserve a pay rise.

For the cheap price paid the hotel is perfectly adequate, the rooms are clean and bright and have the amenities you expect. The shower works OK once you work out that the taps are the wrong way round, the hot is cold and the cold is hot! BUT......the hotel was surrounded by all the local drunks/druggies. They all hang around the entrance to the hotel making it all feel VERY unsafe. I would not recommend going outside after dark! We later found out from a local that this hotel actually houses all these undesirables so this should definitely be noted before contemplating staying here.

We were 3 couples who met up for lunch in the restaurant of this hotel in the middle of Merthyr Tydfil. The lunch menu is available from Monday to Saturday with one course for £7.95 and then either a starter or dessert for £10.95 for 2 courses or £13.95 for 3 courses. A la carte is also available together with snack choices too. The food was delicious and we were all pleased with our choices as most plates had little food left! It proved a popular choice for lunch for people and I'm glad we had reserved a table. Service was good, friendly and efficient and it was nice that the restaurant tables had lovely white linen tablecloths and also white linen napkins - not always the case these days! Parking is available just across the road in the Council Car Park where on a Saturday the parking charge is £1 for all day.

Even as a former resident & regular visitor to Merthyr Tydfil, I would never describe the town as a culinary hotspot. So why, with such good quality food - served in very generous portion sizes - is this place not busier? On my recent visit for dinner with my parents the staff could not have been more friendlynor the food more tasty. The surroundings/ambiance was fine, but would benefit significantly from better mood lighting, as the existing fluorescent strip lights are a little, well, bright. But apart from that, our visit was a big success & extemely good value for money.

I’ve been staying here for a few months now. Rooms are clean and serviced daily. It’s not the Ritz and some rooms are a little dated but for the money it’s an excellent base for business people or for a few days sight seeing. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Will definitely continue to stay here.

We were down for a wedding and wow the food was amazing, room was spacious and comfortable, the staff were top class. Just needed to ask and you got it, only thing is rooms are a little dated could do with a make over but other than that nowt wrong, also room was 99% sound proof, as our room was looking out onto the main street while the Merthyr Rising.we defo will be back.

Adequate room good food friendly staff location right in centre of town loads of pub's and restaurants on your doorstep train station in walking distance.

We held our Christmas lunch at this venue and the service that we received was first class and could not be faltered. There was an excellent choice of menu and this was preordered and the food was delivered piping hot and of excellent quality. It was excellent value for money and we will certainly hold future lunches there. The hotel public areas have recently been updated and once the rest of the building is completed it will be an excellent venue for the town.

My husband and i had a lovely carvery, the meats inc lamb were cooked perfectly and the veg was all very nice But as our 11 yr old daughter doesnt eat much, especially sunday lunch (she doesnt even like gravy!) we always pay for a childs meal but at the castle hotel if your child is over 10 they are classed as an adult so we had to pay £8.50 for 2 sml slices of turkey, 1 boiled potato, 1 roast potato, 1 yorkshire pudding and some carrots! as this is all she ate. I dont mind paying a price when its worth whats eaten but i was quite annoyed at this as she doesnt eat an adults meal!

The castle hotel had gotten a few bad reviews but when I stayed here around 10th of August 2018 till 16th of austgust so much had changed since the last time I stayed here. The hotel was in the process of refurbishment and when I came to the reception I was amazed and pleased, the hotel had looked so much brighter and modern . My room was fabulous. The room was so light and spacious although I was in my own. I was surprised that the hotel became old to brand new. Even though the TV in restaurant was taken down they asked if I would like to move to the second lounge just to watch TV. The Sunday morning I had missed breakfast and it was around 11 o'clock and I was starving so I asked the lady if it was possible to have toast and she was so helpful that she said she could make me a bacon sandwich and then at lunch I could eat cavery. The Avery was lush it was hot and fresh and just by looking at it made my mouth water. I was surprised that there was so much to do in wales/Brecon. There was a little girl on the reception I think her name was Esha and she helped me find some places to go visit and I had such a amazing stay. I recommend staying here. It is nothing like what you see on the website it's so much better. It was a reasonable price and great survive!!!

This is the very 1st time in my life that a hotel charged me on arrival instead at check out. Anyway we paid and went to the room which was ok. A bit dated but looked clean. Bed was comfortable. Sofa was ok and tv big enough. Shower was ok.We couldn't shut the windown and receptionist had to come into the toom to use a pole she did not understand herself on how to use it. Hotel doesn't have a car park or designated parking area. Between 6pm and 8am you can park everywhere but you have to rush out at 8am in case the traffic wardens are out to fine you. before 6pm you have to either be like by the high street or you must pay in a pay and display car park. Ridicolous.

Lovely carvery, good choice of veg and meat. Especially the lamb was very nice! Would defo book again
