Wonderful, welcoming, country pub

Very dog friendly country pub with a warm welcome from Liz the landlady. One shall return.

Best pub in the area by far! High quality real ales! Will be using the pub frequently from now on!

Liz and Dan make this place worth a visit.

We have recently ( February , March and April 2024) started to call into The Star for a late night ' Post Bridge card game' drink with a small group of players on a Tuesday night . We have been impressed by the service , relaxed atmosphere, and quality of the real ales on offer. It is a friendly way to end the evening and unwind after an intensive game at the nearby village hall . The Star is in a rural location on the corner of a staggered road junction . The pub has a large car flat park on the other side of the quiet road . There are disabled spaces in the car park with a walk across a gravelled area to a stepped entrance into the pub. The toilets are inside the pub in a small corridor at the far right of building , up a few steps A disabled access to this toilet is possible from outside via a concrete ramp with handrail from the road . The inside has a large room across the front of the building with an 'L - shaped' room divided into smaller comfortable areas and a real fire at the far right of the building . The Star has been in the Camra ( Campaign for Real Ale ) in the past and still keeps great real ales . I have sampled St. Austell Tribute and Bass amongst the beers on offer and would highly recommend a taste of them . Well worth seeking out for a relaxing drink x

We have used this pub many times over the years. We had a lovely meal this Sunday. Liz is a fantastic landlady and nothing is too much trouble. Would definitely recommend.

Five of us had a delicious Sunday lunch here today. Good size portions with lamb that fell off the bone, the best gravy, several different accompanying fresh vegetable sides, Yorkshire Puddings that had substance and taste to them rather than being just tasteless inflated things. Really good mashed and roast potatoes too, (you have to have good roast potatoes to have a good Sunday lunch in my opinion) 😁. Definitely good value for money. In addition, was impressed with all the staff, being cheerful and attentive. Great local pub atmosphere and nice to see a steady flow of visiting walkers taking advantage of the facilities and warmth of the open fire. Dogs welcome too 👍. Highly recommend.

Best pub in the area by a country mile! Nothing compares! Superb bar staff especially the young lad named Dan, very polite and well mannered. Dan was a great host, will definitely be returning soon!

Advertised as the best zoo in the world, and I for one can well believe it! Nice and big enclosures for the animals, who all appear to be content Also the abundance of trees, plants, shrubs and flowers in the grounds are fabulous Very impressed by the fact that you can hire a mobility scooter or wheelchair FREE of charge! This came in handy for my elderly mother (must book in advance) thos service I believe is run by a charity and do accept donations My mother and kids enjoyed chester zoo immensely and we will definitely be returning One criticism (as a smoker) the smoking areas are not sign posted and very difficult to find

Went down to Stoke to watch Burnley play them and was looking for somewhere to stay overnight to stay in my camper van. It’s a good little pub, the landlady and her son were both very friendly & nice. Like everyone else says locals are really lovely & chatty, not like most places where everyone keeps themselves to themselves. A brilliant place, makes you want to move there :-)

Highly recommend the Star any day of the week but want to share that the roast beef Sunday lunch I had this last weekend was absolutely delicious. The beef was melt in mouth, the veg perfectly cooked, delicious Yorkshire pud with beautiful gravy. Licking my lips at the thought, can’t wait for next Sunday!

The best stopover we've had! Beautiful pub in beautiful setting. Flat carpark you're allowed to stay in with your campervan if you frequent the pub. And you won't regret it, Liz is the nicest landlady and we spent all evening hanging out with joyous locals playing music and chatting i front of the roaring fire. Has a dart board, nice beers and dog friendly. Only food on Sundays but Liz let us eat our dinner snacks in the pub. We will return! Theo & Sorrel

Beautiful meal and great service and surroundings

What an amazing pub the staff are so friendly and the food amazing. I went there with 2 children with special needs and they went above and beyond to make us welcome and tend to our needs. Also with my friend who is 8 months pregnant and hasn't been able to eat much and she ate a whole roast dinner. The quantity of food was massive and they even let me take some home for my dad. Cannot rate them highly enough because 5 stars doesn't cut it they should get 10. Thank youx

Atmospheric old pub with atmosphere of a village community pub. Went for a sing -around with friends. Very enjoyable pint and song Even had a fire in grate. These are the pub's we'll miss if we don't support' em. You can't get this experience ' on-line' for worth a visit. Off road car park.

Fabulous evening with friends in the cosy Star Inn, log fire crackling. Excellent covid secure operation...great spacing of tables. Delicious and incredibly good value pie and pint night..and can highly recommend the malbec!

Particularly impressed with the quality of the beer especially Timothy Taylor landlord which is readily available. The place is frequented by an eclectic crowd of country folk and a visit will educate you with all you need to know about excavators, Land Rovers and vintage tractors.

Recently taken over by new owners, a lovely warm friendly welcome from the new family. What a great little find out at cop mere end just outside Eccleshall, fantastic friendly service, great prices and a good selection of beers. Good luck for the future in your new adventure guys.

Brilliant small but perfectly formed pub with a lovely local feel. Great for Summer as it has a lovely garden and benches outside. Also had an open mic night on when I was there on a Sunday evening.

Not sure if its ok as we didnt go in because the kitchen was closed as it was being updated and we only went for food.

Really nice pub, just as a Pub/Inn should be, no music, no television, open fires in the cold, just good conversation and people, lovely landlord, haven't tried the food yet as the kitchen was being renovated, but will be going back!

Just called in today. One of my favourite pubs especially when the weather is good as they have a great garden. Today the beer and wine was FREE plus free food and entertainment. Not sure why. I'll find out when I've sobered up. Fantastic! !!

It was good, food was average but nice atmosphere

This was our second visit and just as good as the first one. There were eight of us including two children, everyone enjoyed their meals. I had roast beef which was very tender, the Yorkshire pudding was well executed, the roast potatoes were soft in the middle and crispy on the outside just as they should be and the vegetables were nicely done. The atmosphere was friendly, our hosts made us feel very welcome and our waitress went to great lengths to ensure we wanted for nothing. The play area was great for the kids but due to the weather most of us stayed in the warmth of the inn.

nice food had a'steak and stilton pie a little disappointing couldn't taste the stilton. Food hot and plenty of it .pleasant staff.

Wonderful friendly and welcoming pub. All our ordered food was home cooked and it tasted super. Loved the open fire. Actually loved everything about our visit and shall try to call often.
