Arrived a little earlier than expected after an almost 200 mile motorbike ride. We were shown to our room in an annex to the pub. A very nice room with absolutely everything we could have needed.There are only 3 rooms in the annex, each with a very pleasant outside seating area (there were even throws and an electronic fly zapper). We had opted for twin beds which were comfortable but a little narrow for my large husband. After settling in we went for a beer in the pub - everyone was very friendly, staff and local customers and their dogs. After a shower, big cubicle, big showerhead and plenty of hot water, we had our evening meal at the pub as there was nowhere else nearby and thoroughly enjoyed everything Italian style. They even have a Doggie Menu! Not Italian. Breakfast was fantastic - help yourself to cereal, fruit, yogurt, croissants, tea/cafeteire coffee/juice, hubby had the full English and I had the continental which was unbelievable - selection of proper continental meats, 3 different cheeses, tomatoes, olives and toasted ciabatta. Our compliments went to the chef. An exceptional stay, definitely recommended.

Called after a walk on the off chance the pub done lunch. So glad we called, friendly atmosphere with outdoor seating. Dog friendly and food excellent.

I can't believe it's taken me two years to post a review of The Star. Subconsciously, perhaps I don't want too many people competing for my table. I first went with my two young sons for a weekday lunch in 2022. They ordered pizzas, as they nearly always do. They were astonished to find that the Star's Margherita pizzas were the best they had eaten anywhere, including the pizzeria in New York (USA, not County Durham) they had visited every night of a stay there. Since then I have enjoyed many meals at The Star with family and friends, eating my way through most of the menu - including pasta dishes, risottos, and English classics such as whitebait and fish and chips - and everything has been unfailingly good. If your kids are impatient - like mine - the service is always swift and friendly. If you have dogs, they are made welcome and even have their own dedicated menu. If you like beer, the varied ales from the First & Last Brewery are excellent and delicious. There is always a fine selection of cakes etc for pudding in the unlikely event of your having room for them. And if you're running short of anything at home, there is a useful shop behind the bar. While my last meal at The Star was a happy family supper, a week before I drove there alone after an exceptional trying day grappling with the NHS in Newcastle. I walked in feeling thoroughly lousy. After a La Stella pizza and two pints of Red Rowan ale, I walked out a new man. I really can't recommend the place more highly.

This place is very good the service is quick The food is lovely and it was so nice I have come two nights on the go. I have even been able to have a three course meal in under an hour

We stayed here as a group of 6 friends on a cycling tour and stayed in the 3 rooms. Accommodation is modern,clean and each room has an outside terrace. It was just what we needed with secure cycle storage. On arrival after a hard days cycling we had amazing home made pizzas, with a good selection of ales and a dart board. Breakfast was great, staff very friendly and accommodating, would recommend to any other cyclists on a tour of the area for a bite to eat or stop over.

What an anazing frindly place with great food. Proper cuttlery and crockery i looked at the rooms for rent and they look high class. Well done.

The Star Inn did not disapoint, very welcoming, the food was amazing, really delicious. Lovely warm inviting atmosphere, dog friendly, can't fault it, we had a great time, thank you.

A lovely friendly local pub that does authentic Italian fare. Gorgeous wood fired pizzas and tasty pastas at reasonable prices. A cracking pint as well. Well worth the trip. We'll be back.

What a lovely friendly place, we were unlucky enough to have a breakdown on our car on holiday, no mobile phone cover in the area, local rarity....a phone box was out of order. Beginning to despair. Pub was shut at this time,, but there is a shop at the rear. Da o I tentatively asked if they would be kind enough to allow me to make a phonecall to the R*C for help. I was allowed use of the private phone but not allowed to pay for the call. There was an expected delay in attendance by the 'association' of about 2 hours. The staff very kindly offered my wife, dog and self warmth, coffee and shelter in the interim. We very happily accepted the kind offer. Too cut a long story considerably short,7 hours.....yes 7 hours later rescue arrived and we were able to proceed. We had a wonderful home cooked meal in very pleasant, comfortable and historical surroundings. We were made VERY welcome, the hospitality was second to none and at no time were we made to feel awkward over our extended visit to this country haven. Quality pizza, ambiance and staff. As a family, we headed to the pub because the appeal of the menu and positive reviews. Welcome was warm and service was faultless. We had pizzas, fish and a vegan calzone. All were perfect. Desserts were tasty too. Will definitely return.

What a hidden gem. Joined family for supper on a dark October evening and was greeted with friendly staff and a warm atmosphere. We all selected from the specials menu and returned 4 clean plates. My pasta dish was amazing and has made it onto my top 5 of all time. Perfectly cooked and presented. If only I lived locally to return. Would highly recommend.

Only opened in August the Star inn accommodation was spot on, comfy beds warm room and a great shower. Very dog friendly and ours was made to feel right at home. The food in the bar was 1st class and delicious we ate 2 out of our 3 nights there. Breakfast was excellent and filled us for the day ahead. Note the bar is closed Mondays so no meal that night. Over all service was spot, its worth also noting this is a remote spot with no mobile signal, the WiFi was excellent in rooms at 60mb. It was also remote which made it perfect for some Star spotting as it is pitch black at night.

NEW YORK/NEW JERSEY PIZZA—The Real Deal! By some miracle, the chef at the Starr Inn has accomplished what I had thought impossible—a genuine, mouth-watering, oil floating on the cheese, thin crust New York style pizza in Europe! The crust is home made and hand-thrown; it’s very thin but stands up to a slice without drooping. Just enough of the highest quality mozzarella. Definitely at least two Guide Michelin pizza stars—worth a detour! If you miss the real thing, or have never been to New York to taste one, get to the Starr Inn right away! You’ll be glad you did!

We fully endorse the previous reviews. We had an excellent lunch after a challenging walk. There is an extensive and interesting menu of freshly cooked food. Friendly and helpful service, highly recommended and definitely well worth a visit.

Great place. Not much to look at from outside, but well worth the visit. Inside, is very pleasantly appointed. Good beer and friendly service. Surprisingly busy - a steady flow of people coming in. Great asset for the village - others could learn a lot from this business. Well done at doing what you do, so well!

To steal a line from a well known restaurant guide, the Star is worth a special journey. We visited on a midweek lunch time so the restaurant was relatively quiet. The full menu was available. Our choices arrived in a timely manner, bearing in mind that they had to be cooked. The baked hake was delicious and I am told the spaghetti marinara was equally tasty. As we had preceded these with the generous helpings of whitebait we could not manage a pud but have no doubt they would have lived up to the Stars obviously high standards. Service was cheerful and helpful, would we go again, you bet but although I said it was worth a special journey I live 200 plus miles away so it might have to wait until I am a bit closer

The food at The Star is really very good. We were not sure what to expect, it being the only pub (only eatery) in the village but were very pleasantly surprised. Pizza is as good as any wood fired oven pizza we have had. Came a coupe of nights - pizza and other entree's really good. Very nice people and the place had a nice easy going ambience. Well worth a visit.
