The Star and Garter in Chelmsford

Staff were pleasant, prices are ok. They have live music quite often... It's just a shame it's a bit snug in there when a band is on. Obviously there's not a lot that can be done about that.

Why haven't I been visiting their fantastic pub garden all the time! Love the vibe, love the background music, love the graffiti walls, and the summer vibe. They don't do their own food, but u can order from a selection of restaurants in Moulsham St., and they will bring the food to u in the pub garden. A brilliant brilliant idea, and I highly recommend pizza or pasta from Caio next door!!

How do you help these pubs? Only been reopend couple months, two previous good visits. Doesnt open Mon, Tues. Weds from 4pm onwards. Now i work Mon/Tue so it doesnt really bother me too much but once upon a time they used to be my days off and they will be someone elses. Have Weds/Thurs off. Attempted visit 14/7/22 a thurs and it was foo king shut.

Fantastic to see the pub open once more and serving three real ales in really good condition (and not just the usual suspects). Sensible prices too. Wishing Mel and staff the very best.

The staff and regulars are friendly. Had such a fab night. Fishing for robots was the live band and they were brilliant. Drinks cheap compared to town prices. Well worth a visit. Oh anything goes!! Loved the Landlords fish flops 😂😂😂

So pleased I visited this pub to watch Beyond Conspiracy, they are a great band.

Love this pub. The landlord and lady are a really lovely couple. They are friendly and have a laugh with the locals. Great bands. Nice beer garden. Nice traditional English pub. And in my opinion a hell of a lot better than the pub next door.

Great place. Bunch of rough arses drink here but are a good croud. Great beer and better whisky with some good tunes in the background. Fab

Went to the Star and Garter for a quick pint on the way to collect our Chinese. What a great pub. The landlord and staff are super friendly and the Beer well kept. They often have entertainment. This is a pub like they used to be. Couldn't recommend enough. If you passing call in, you won't regret it.

Old fashioned local just off the city centre. Friendly staff and locals. Not many Real Ales on when I visited, but those available were not your standard choice seen in so many pubs. The barman (landlord) insisted on topping my pint up despite it being full enough that I wouldn’t have dreamed of asking for a top up. Best wi-fi I’ve come across today as well!

Love this place... so down to earth. Staff amazingly friendly. Owners are owsome. And people are real. Defo worth a pint or two there.

I really like this old fashioned style local friendly staff and the owner. On a slightly downer there is not always much of a selection of real ales

Lovely atmosphere open Mic on a Sunday afternoon had a lovely afternoon and evening bar staff were very friendly and so we're the locals.

Went in for a quick pint whilst waiting for my daughter because real ale was advertised. Friendly bar and good beer, will consider it my local now when in this direction. Should come back to sample the live music sometime.

The S&G has always been a quirky little pub and so it remains. The landlord and landlady are lovely as are the rest of the staff. There's often live music which can be surprisingly good for such a small venue. It does attract some "characters" which can be a mixed blessing, in some ways it adds to the "charm" but some of them can be a bit annoying/worrying.

Really ace cellar management but needs some more taps. Adnams is looked after really well. Great for seeing The Wild Coyotes on a weekend.
