We preordered some food for lunch yesterday to take away. We had fish, chips and mushy peas. We all really enjoyed it! It wasn’t at all greasy and the batter on the lovely fish was a little bit crispy, which was perfect!

What fun! A beautiful olde English pub with a huge menu, plenty of variety and great value. The staff were friendly and nothing was too difficult. Right across the road was a 1,000 year old church and the whole thing was just wonderful. The pub itself was built in the 1600’s. As someone from Australia it was a total delight.

Excellent Christmas lunch, large serving of good quality food lots if veg, piping hot and served by lovely people. Attempted floater coffees even though they aren't on the menu abd the server warned us she never tried before. 10/10 Charlotte. So welcoming. The atmosphere is great just spoiled by a few foul mouthed blokes at the bar who left shortly after.

For the first time ever we decided to take our ever-growing family out for Boxing Day lunch and chose The Crown in Sandon. There were 13 adults and 6 children. The food was hot and delicious, and even catered for my gluten-free daughter-in-law. The service was impeccable, the staff couldn't do enough and the final bill was extremely reasonable. I definitely recommend The Crown for any future events, especially for larger crowds.

Will never go here again! Terrible to say the least! Being shouted and screamed abuse at by the owner and managers of the pub after being nothing but reasonable to them. We ordered a large order because there was 7 of us and they forgot an item, we have receipts to prove this. We asked if that was coming out and They stated that they had brought everything out. As anybody would, we said no it’s not you have forgot something. To which all hell broke loose with a bald man on the table opposite. Later realising this “man” was sat on the same table as the owner and nothing was being said to him explains the standard of this establishment. On top of that, the manager comes over and starts on us too! This was happening In front of everyone sat in the pub causing people to get up and leave halfway through bingo because they too felt so uncomfortable. For the manager to then, as we was leaving, embarrassingly shout out the doors at us and slam it. We was laughing at this point at how shockingly childish she was acting. Embarrassing for them because she was doing all of this in front of everyone watching. Just a shame because that property could be something great! Food was a puddle of grease too but that was the least of our worries.

I would give 0 stars if it were an option. Food arrived cold and staff were equally as cold towards us. Felt there was a lot of animosity in the air, really took the sparkle out of my Christmas catch up with friends, I won’t be returning and suggest others to find else where.

VILE STAFF AND FOOD! Paying people to leave good reviews so the real ones get lost? How childish, but what can you expect from an establishment like that. One that the owner sits and drinks with people that cause massive rows with other tables.

A fantastic local traditional pub offering excellent quality and great value food as well as a wide selection of beer and ale. The staff couldn't be more friendly, accomodating and helpful. Charlotte went above and beyond to cater for my partner who is vegetarian during our recent visit which was greatly appreciated. The Crown has a lovely and quaint setting, especially with the fire going and it is a perfect spot to spend a winters evening. Highly recommend this friendly family run pub!!

My work colleagues and I had the pleasure of experiencing a heart-warming Christmas meal at The Sandon Crown, a delightful traditional English pub nestled against a charming village green and adjacent to a picturesque church. From the inviting ambiance to the classic pub fare, every detail was curated to capture the essence of a true British Christmas. Stepping into this quaint English pub felt like entering a time-honoured haven, adorned with festive decorations that enhanced the cozy atmosphere. The rustic charm of the interior, framed by the village green and the nearby church, set the stage for an evening steeped in traditional British hospitality. The staff, embodying the spirit of great British hospitality, welcomed us with genuine warmth. Their friendly smiles and helpful manor made us feel relaxed like cherished guests. Now, let's talk about the heart-warming Christmas meal—a celebration of classic pub fare. The menu featured familiar favourites, expertly prepared with a nod to traditional British culinary simplicity. The chefs at The Sandon Crown showcased their expertise with each course, presenting them in a way that felt like a comforting embrace of holiday traditions. We started with a delightful array of appetizers that mirrored the simplicity of beloved pub snacks, bringing a touch of nostalgia to our gathering. The main course featured a hearty turkey roast with all the classic trimmings—a quintessential Christmas dish prepared with care and a dash of homey charm. The flavours were authentically British, reminiscent of cherished family gatherings. The dessert selection was a sweet finale that captured the essence of a traditional British Christmas. From indulgent Christmas puddings to classic favourites, each dessert brought a familiar taste of the season to our table. The portion sizes were just right, leaving us with contented smiles. Equally impressive was the impeccable service, reflecting the traditional values of a local English pub. The staff was attentive, friendly, and seamlessly blended modern efficiency with the timeless charm of British hospitality. In conclusion, The Sandon Crown, with its traditional English pub setting, classic pub fare, and exceptional staff, exceeded our expectations. It delivered a Christmas meal that not only celebrated the holiday season but also embraced the rich culinary and cultural traditions of the region. I highly recommend this pub for anyone seeking a cozy and heart-warming Christmas celebration. Thank you, Sandon Crown, for making our Christmas gathering truly special!

I recently dropped by The Crown Pub in Sandon, Essex, it's such a gem. The staff there are super friendly and welcoming, which made the whole experience really enjoyable. They were great with my dog too, giving us both a warm welcome as soon as we walked in. I'm a vegetarian and usually struggle to find good options at traditional pubs, but The Crown really got it right. They had some seriously tasty veggie dishes on the menu, which is not something you see every day. The Crown is the kind of place where you feel right at home, thanks to the lovely staff and the relaxed vibe. Whether you're a pet owner or looking for decent vegetarian options, this pub's definitely worth checking out.
