Great pub, busy and good service

No beers on sale, only Lagers, shame but went to the Greyhound instead.

Had a great day here. They have double vodka and redbull for 5.50 at the minute. Felt really welcome. Not serving food atm

Nice sunday drinks n meal friendly bar staff

Service was fairly quick, pizza good, I had hunters chicken which was ok but the chicken looked as though it had come straight out of a packet. I had cod and chips earlier in the week and that was good. Ok for a quick bite to eat.

Amazing!! Especially the new sizzler menu, perfect with a pint in the beer garden! Jo and Kev really have created a great environment for family days or a night out!!!

Excellent service, good food, great place to drink and relax. Recently tried some food off their new menu and it is excellent! Vegetarian options were surprisingly tasty, and the surf and turf was delicious!

great managers made to feel so welcome staff are great and food is so good not just your standard pub food actually made with care.

Called in for drinks with friends and ended up having some food too. New menu is great and the sizzlers and loaded fries were so tasty. Drinks and very reasonable, service was friendly and professional. Onto of that it easily has the best outdoor area for miles with TV’s for sport, heaters and a fenced off area for kids to play.

A popular place, agreed, however their last event was terrible. The DJ either had the repeate button on or Couldn't decide what to do. The music was so loud, I'm surprised people could even hold a casual conversation, let alone the local residents. Very inconsiderate. A gew pf the regualr customers im amazed wete allowed to socialise there. No real thought by the staff im afraid. I image there may be an ongoing issue in regard to noise complaints and anti social behaviour.

Been here a couple of times and always had good food and friendly service but tonight I had to leave a review because my meal was extra scrummy. I went for the hunters chicken and it was the best hunters chicken I have ever had. As always, friendly and accommodating when my son wanted a slight change on his dessert. Would definitely recommend and will be back.

First time in 61 years that I've been in, but we'll be back on Sunday! Nice pub with friendly staff and customers!

What a con!!!! I was stung with a parking fine after stopping here for a drink I never even thought about asking about parking as the carpark is connected to the pub if when we orderd, a gentle "have you registered your reg"would have been helpful Like the last review I feeling this is a money making car park scam and I will definatly not be back even when I called the pub to let them know what had happend I got unhelpful staff I can prove I bought drinks in the pub as I payed on card and will have a date and time on my statement but they didn't want to know great customer service "The star at Woodhouse con car park pub" Getting this as a reputation surely is not what they want?

Food wasn't great, we got there they said they were only doing a Sunday lunch menu, then after we ordered they started bringing out foods off the normal menu, the children were really hungry and had a Sunday lunch under duress, and they weren't happy seeing chips for other children coming out the kitchen, Sunday lunch itself wasn't great,stodgy micro waved mash potato and sub standard veg 2 stars is being generous.

Guests beers. Wainwrights was particularly nice.

Decent pub and outdoor area! Not had food so can't comment but menu looked decent! Remember to register your car at the bar for the carpark otherwise expect a fine!

Dropped in for a meal and a couple of beers. Food was fine and selection of real ales very good. I opted for Black Sheep which was in very good form. My 4* probably equates to most people's 5* which would apply to the staff, very friendly and obliging. Well done the Star.

Just started visiting this pub for a quick lunch hour coffee with my work friend. We stayed for 37 minutes and have both received a £60 fine because of the misleading money making car park attached to this pub!!! beware a quick catch up drink is likely to cost us in total £120!!! the landlord showed little sympathy, telling us "I'm protecting my pub! what from??? I asked...paying customers...We will never go again. Sad as it was an alright place. Still trying to fight these fines...

I visited the Star at the end of June for lunch. Food fine etc. I have now just received a £100 parking fine for entering and exiting their car park. I drove past permit only spaces on the way to a legitimate space. The car's shadow has triggered a photo and I'm not even in the space. My 90 year old Aunt was also fined on the same day for pulling into one of these spaces for less than a minute whilst working out where to park. Loads of hassle now to appeal. Shame on you Star. Will never visit this pub again.

Just had a beef dinner, £10.29 I think I've had my pants pulled down. Shop bought stuffing, Yorkers and two slices of meat, Oh and chef," try using salt in your veg " No return visit I'm afraid. Sorry better places around at a cheaper price.

Outside area needs a bloody good clean up. Could be a great area, didn't see any staff out there for the entire time we were in. Barman was very nice and went to get me a drink from the cellar. Service good. Just got the feeling that team work is lacking.

Went for a friend's birthday and landlord served the whole party and not me. We are all the same age and came in at half past 9 at night. I am 27 years old with 3 kids. I KNOW I don't look 21. Even though I had a coke the landlord was still being so rude and dismissive, like he was angry at me because I didn't just leave. This was my first time back in woodhouse in roughly 5 years, not sure if he's mixed me up with someone else but he's a d*CK.

Used to go here years ago, things have definitely improved. Had a chicken dinner there Sunday and it was amazing. All homemade, great pub garden with 2 large TVs for when it's nice out. Well be back

The landlord were swearing at us not being professional and drinking on the job didn’t think that would be allowed! We only put a complaint to them we haven’t shouted or swear at them, had a bad experience day there, there’s no communication between the staff isn’t good at all, telling us different times for food, telling us can’t do ice cream but other staff said we do. Turn forest match over to the Liverpool game even though forest only had 5 mins left, they said we got it on other tv so watch it on my of them, we sat there all day watching the game, would of been nice to tell us that they will be putting Liverpool game on but except they said we check Facebook and social media, which why would anyone check that before coming to a pub. After we all explained what happened they said we are barred, I don’t think they can bar us over a complaint! Well I will be taking this further and would not return to this rude pub again.

Food was really not good had hot beef gravy in baguette had before was proper meat this time was just meat off deli counter really not good for £7.50

Service a bit slow for amount of people in pub Roast dinners were very nice 1 Chicken and 1 Beef . Plenty of veg from parsnips ,carrots , cauliflower cheese , red cabbage ,Roast Potatoes and mash.Plenty of gravy and Yorkshire and stuffing ball. £ 9.29

Me and my partner are new to the area and recently tried out our local. Absolutely amazing, the food was fantastic. I had the 8oz steak (medium) and it was spot on. My partner had the mixed grill and again it was spot on. Very good portions at a very reasonable price. The staff where lovely. A great way to spend our year anniversary

went there for my mil birthday staff very friendly and would help you with any request, good prices on food, the burgers are amazing, I had chicken new yorker with chips and peas, the chicken wasn't fresh out of the freezer , the portions wasn't exact to others who had same meal as me, could do little more work on meals . thank you

No sanitiser. No checks for procedure poor service very poor food and drink. This pub used to be amazing and even taking into account the current circumstances and challenges the whole experience was terrible and we won't be returning.

Arrived back from holiday in Crete to a 2 week quarantine 'holiday'. The covid 19 protocol in Crete was second to none and we felt safer there than the UK. Our quarantine holiday over last Wednesday, we visited The Star on Friday and Saturday this weekend. We pre booked a table for both nights. On arrival we wore our masks and used the sanitizer near the door where we were greeted by one of the waitresses and shown to our table. All the staff were wearing masks or visors. On sitting down, we were able to remove our masks and the waitress brought over the file to fill in for track and trace. She then asked us for our order and she duly brought it to our table. You could pay by cash or card. On every table there was a red and green card. Green was for service, red for no service. At no time was anybody allowed to stand or order at the bar. If you needed to go to the toilet, you wore your mask till you came back. The waitresses were very pleasant and very efficient. If anybody did not respect the covid rules set in place, they were asked to leave. All the tables were cleaned and sanitized after each person left that table and new customers sat down. The staff were cleaning areas on a regular basis. The landlords have a one way system of entry and exit from the pub. There is plenty of signs in each bar and outside relaying the rules in place so nobody should have no knowledge of requirements. We had a good night and felt completely safe in the knowledge that the procedures put in by the Landlords were being adhered to. Unlike some establishments we have been to. The rules for service were exactly the same that we had experienced in the bars and restaurants in Crete. At 10-00 pm the pub was cleared as per the government rules. We will definitely be returning to The Star again deep in the knowledge that they have all the procedures in place. Oh, and by way of coincidence, on Friday night 3 police officers entered the pub and went around checking that the rules were being obeyed by both staff and customers, I am glad to say that they left giving the thumbs up. If people respect the rules like everybody did these 2 nights then there would no problems.

Disappointing. Full of kids who don't seem to care about wearing a mask, and staff who let them get away with it.

My wife and I have just come back from the star in Mansfield Woodhouse, purchased drinks from the bar , track and trace was in place so far so good .Sat down only to find a group of 13 possibly more socialising. My wife spoke to a member of staff but nothing was done .None of the staff wearing masks .If you think this pandemic is going to go away soon then think again . I have had Covid myself and know it could be fatal . If you are medically venerable then please please avoid!!!!!!We are all privileged to go to the pub with our friends and family, these pathetic people are going to ruin it for everybody that sticks to the rules .You 13 people are a disgrace and should be ashamed of yourself !!I will be avoiding the star in the future .

Recently had a family meal here. Found it easy to book a table. All the staff where welcoming and friendly. Food was nice enough and the bar has a good choice of drinks. Pub had a band on outside which attracted lots of people. It has a cozy feel to it and is dog friendly. Worth a visit.

Food is amazing, friendly service, nice atmosphere. Kind to children. Lovely beer garden. We will be returning soon.

First time in a pub since covid felt safe nice atmosphere & the band were good enjoyed it was disappointed with the food .....when we have been previously the food was good

What a lovely cosy pub , the food is amazing lots to chose from , special board and a full daytime menu, lots of different hand pull beers etc , bid screen TVs out side in a covered area where all different sports can be watched whilst having a nice cold beer , entertainment on need to keep a look out for the events This place is definitely worth a visit

Amazing historic traditional English pub with a great roast, dog friendly and super atmosphere. The outside area is amazing. Big screen sports on an enclosed Dec with outdoor heating means you can utilise the space all year round. Family friendly and very welcoming. Carl and India and the rest of the staff are a joy and nothing is too much trouble. Good food, great beer, wines and spirits and an even better atmosphere! What more could you ask for?

Now has another new landlord. The beer is vastly improved and the big screens continuously showing sky sports have gone. However the music played all the time is horrible.

A lovely friendly pub which serves great food at reasonable prices. The staff are super friendly and give a warm welcome to all. The regulars are a great crowd and give the whole place a feel good factor. Love this place, highly recommend.

Sunday lunch. The meat is not freshly cooked, from catering packs. No fresh vegetables. Peas and carrots and no cauliflower cheese. The meal was served on one plate, no separate vegetables. They used to do this. The Yorkshire pudding was soft and the whole meal was disappointing. Edible but very bland. Such a shame really as the girl who runs it is very nice.

Lovely atmosphere, really friendly staff with a very handsome barman (Steve). Had a great time with excellent food - kudos to the chef! Will happily return :)

Came with father in law and his partner who both ate off the senior menu which was perfect for them. I had a steak topped with garlic mushrooms and it was great. Excellent value for money and really accommodating.

Owner and the team are always friendly, lets us host our bike night there and always welcoming. Pub is always clean and just a nice place to be, plus the cake is great. 5/5

Our first visit to this very pleasant and welcoming pub. It is clean and comfortable and the well cooked food was beautifully presented. Our plates were all emptied with relish! The service was efficient and polite.Our daughter lives locally so we will be back.

They couldn't accommodate us for a Sunday lunch so had to go somewhere else. Never had a problem before.

Travelling back from Retford we decided to stop for lunch at The Star. Nice clean bar, friendly staff with a good selection of food. Ordered from the special menu and both of us had an all day breakfast. It arrived in good time and was good - Only criticism was that the plate was cold but otherwise good and good value.

Went to The a Star for lunch and really enjoyed what I had, the Jackfuit Balti. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Visited the Star which is actually our local but hadnt been for awhile . Used to go for a drink most saturday evenings but lately been going elsewhere ie. the Greyhound because got sick of the rowdiness and foul language. Any way after a 22 hour gap without food due to a medical issue it was a hungry chap and my good lady who tuned up on 3/5/19 for some food. Dont normally have fish and chips but thought at £9.25 must be good. My lady also had same. What came was huge let down. I had 9x chips a spoonful of mushy peas The chips were found under the fish lol .The fish was of average size and the batter was quite nice. My partner told the waitress that she thought that the small blob of peas was ridiculous but in fairness she did bring some more(not much though) and was polite. ps.dont normally count chips but this was so annoying!!! Noticed on the menu they do light bites omg must serve them on a saucer. People i know have been here for a meal and have been impressed so might give it another try , probably sunday dinner.

This is a lovely little pub for a relaxed drink and some food. The entrance doesn't look very inviting but inside, it's warm and cosy with a nice atmosphere. I'd be wary of ordering the seabass though. We went a few days into their new menu launch and it was awful, flavourless and without half of the ingredients advertised in the menu.

This was the first time we had visited The Star for a meal even though we have lived in Mansfield Woodhouse for years. We received a warm welcome from the friendly staff and the food was lovely and very reasonably priced. We will certainly be back.
