The Star in Mole Valley

Just had the humble apple crumble - absolutely hopeless. The tinned custard would have been tastier! On my way to Waitrose to lift my pallet.

After a day at Chessington World of Adventure and unfortunately a lack of food, we decided to search for a local pub for some food and a well deserved drink. We came across The Star, and only a short drive down the road it was ideal. Upon arrival we are promptly catered for (group of 5 including a 2 year old) and we were given sufficient time to choose our drinks and look at the menu. Firstly we ordered 2 X sharing platters, and I guarantee I can speak on behalf of the party, very impressive. Not greasy, tasted fresh and was a decent portion. Would recommend! For mains we had a variety, jacket potatoes, katsu burger and steak ciabatta. Now where do I start... The katsu sauce was delicious, chips crispy with a beautiful aroma (never thought I would say that about a chip) equally it was confirmed, the burger was fantastic. The steak looked beautifully done and confirmed that it was delicious. Now, onto the spuds... Genuinely, I have never had a jacket potato so delicious in my 30 years of living on this planet. I am not one for potato on the average day, so for me to state a potato is delicious is no easy feat. Crispy, fluffy, beautiful chilli, sour cream and sauce to top it off. Honestly I was impressed. (Photo attached, half eaten, it didn't last long) Overall, we all had an outstanding meal, prompt service, very polite, content with pricing and overall a great experience! If I lived local this would definitely be a regular! (Even kiddo was happy, which takes alot) Highly recommend, excellent guys, well done! 💪

Been here years ago and it was really good, however this time it was terrible. As a couple we came with 2 very well behaved older children (10 and 13), but was put in a room full of screaming very young children running riot and jumping everywhere. Then the smell of dirty nappies hit us, we decided not to eat had drinks and left. We were staying at the Chessington theme park hotel, and came here for a quiet meal, thought it would be worth paying the extra for it. We did ask to be moved the main part of the restaurant but they couldn't move us. Never going back.

Good traditional pub food with a twist.

Really nice food and generally lovely staff. We usually visit here after a trip to Chessington World of Adventures and always enjoy our meal. The only criticism is that it's not the cheapest for what is essentially posh pub grub, but with it's location and proximity to the park, it's a good choice.

Went for Sunday lunch today. The service was wonderful but the food disappointing. Roast beef : beef was far too rare for our liking and not cooked in the middle. The crispy roast potatoes were non existent, 2 potatoes rock hard, no coating or crispiness at all! Fish and chips: greasy and batter not at all crispy. Burger: was tough. Overall a lovely treat but food extremely disappointing

We had a lovely long walk to the Star and it was worth it nice could beer on a hot day sat outside then a early dinner good choice on menu and finish with a well made cocktail

Didn't stay but had dinner, my wife and I were blown away by the attentive, friendly staff!! Was made to feel welcome, and the food was amazing

Visited today and part of a table for 9 Myself and my partner both have business's and are aware how very important representation is. Especially in the hospitality trade. Which is why I'm making this review. Lewis was outstanding with us. That balance of friendliness and professionalism was much more than 5* It was a very special day for us taking a much loved family member out after two many years of not seeing her. We all look forward to visiting The Star again......I'm determined to taste there Eton Mess

Great food and service, reasonable prices. Only downside is the number of out of control kids in garden because of play area

I see all the 5 star reviews and I wonder what happened on 19th August when we visited for the second and last time. We were there waiting to order, it took almost 2.5 to eat and drink. I had to say that we were ready to order twice at least I think before we got attention. My family members told me we/ I were getting dirty looks from the staff. The food and drinks were okay to be fair. The service was poor, people who came after us were served quicker. I don’t want to use the race card but maybe it was because I am brown. As I said there are plenty of other establishments that deserve our business.

Came here a few years ago, so I decided to visit last night with the family party of 7 whilst on a trip to chessington. The service and atmosphere when we visited previously enticed us back. Well, what a mistake!! The waitress got the order right however then the starters that were ordered for mains came out as starters.....so they apologised when 20mins later we were still waiting for the children's food....after giving the children the food as the were starving they then sent the food out staggered some cold some hot......and then to top everything off the atmosphere from the rest of the customers making us feel uncomfortable watching us making comments was disgusting, safe to say I will never return. It's such a shame as we really enjoyed our first visit maybe it's changed hands. Some of the staffing need some lessons in etiquette and how to treat others. Only bonus I see about this place now is it's dog friendly!! £166 to eat cold food with diabolical attitudes I'm sure if I hadn't paid it would of been another thing for them to say well black people playing the race card to get out of paying definitely not the case!!

Five years ago I wrote good pub food, friendly staff and reasonable prices. Very nice atmosphere, recommended. I recently had lunch here, jacket potato with beans and cheese. I was served a very small, half cooked potato with the aforementioned beans and cheese. It was not very hot and the centre was hard. What a difference five years makes. Come on guys I know you can do better.

Stopped here by chance this evening for dinner and I'm so glad I did. Lovely big menu with Non Gluten containing options, vegan and veggie options (on the back) which was perfect. Great children's menu. Service was timely and there was a great little play area whilst we waited. Staff were friendly and helpful. My daughter and I each had a main and desert which we never do. Both were on the generous side apart from my daughter's beans which were small. We were full of food and happily skipped out the place. I would definitely recommend it if you're passing. Note the menu doesn't say coeliac friendly and there are signs making it clear that cross contamination can't be ruled out so not for coeliac guests but at least they are clear. Really good food but really poor service! The wait for drinks despite constant reminders was ridiculous! Coffee machine turned off whilst we were eating mains! Very disappointing meal experience.

BARONS PUB COMPANY Excellent food but super bad service! They didn't even bring us the appetizers we ordered, they didn't ask us if we wanted drinks after our drinks were gone and my husband went and got another beer for that very reason.

This pub is a very handy stop off point on the way back from a day at Chessington World of Adventures. The staff were friendly and accommodated us even though we did not have a table booking. There is a great drink selection which was ideal for a family of thirsty theme park goers. The food was reasonable including the kids menu. The pub is specious with plenty of seating both inside and outside so you are not too close to other diners. We had to wait a while for our drinks but the food and the bill came quickly.

Lovely evening meal in the garden

Very overpriced for the standard of food unfortunately. I have in the past been a regular Barons pub visiter, although this was my first visit to The Star. Disappointing and pricey for food that ultimately is sub standard of what you would get in a Wetherspoons. This seems pretty consistent with other reviews also so it doesn’t seem as if they have changed much unfortunately.

Great food but service was diabolical

Had Sunday lunch here, for my grandson's 18th birthday. The food and service is what we have always known it. We have been using the star for all special occasions and Sunday roast for many years. The staff are always friendly, service is great. Would highly recommend The Star.

Two words - Lamb Chops. Don’t be a fool and order the two chop option like I did. Gotta be three! Kids playground was a bonus.

The pub is excellent for meeting friends and family,the food is excellent and I would recommend,and staff are very helpful.

Friendly service, sadly food was poor. Far too expensive for quality, seemed a bit "school dinners", nothing special. Far too many local pubs which offer much better food at similar or cheaper. Will avoid.

The pub its self is lovely and the staff were great but the food was actually very disappointing :( paid around £18 for a Caesar salad and it was the most boring Caesar I’ve ever had! I would return for a drink but wouldn’t bother with food

Service slow and meals OK, but not exceptional.

This is normally my go to place due to service, ambiance and certainly the food. I booked a table to take my father for father's day and sadly the food fell rather short . I normally have the mushroom wellington as it is so full of flavour. I can honestly say it was extremely bland and tasteless with what I can only describe as stuffed with boiled onions. My father had the roast beef which he said was rather tough. I was rather shocked as I had dined here a few weeks prior and found the difference in the food rather shocking. I really hope this is not the way it is going as I'll be looking for a new eatery.

Had a lovely meal here last night perfect sized portions well presented and delicious . A little pricey but the standered of food and service was worth the cost . Only down side was the service charge added to the bill ! American style charging ? Not my thing i prefer to leave a tip but wont do both .

We came from Claygate with our little one to get to the Star which is a lovely walk. We ordered a bacon/cheese burger and Fish and Chips. Unfortunately, we didn't rate the food. The fish just did not taste nice and it was left, which is a shame as I dislike leaving food. The burger was pretty average too, certainly not £17 value. Just not fresh. I'd come again but not for food

I visited The Star in Leatherhead for the first time on Sunday afternoon with my family and had an amazing experience. The staff were incredibly friendly and created a warm atmosphere right from the start. They went above and beyond, offering drinks for our dogs and engaging in pleasant conversation. Their positive attitudes and excellent service were a refreshing change from what we've experienced at other local places. The food choices were great and tasted delicious. We're planning a wider family catch-up soon and have decided The Star would be the perfect location for our group. Thank you to the amazing team at The Star – keep up the good work!

Wow, table for 11 please, food amazing, service with a smile. My wife's 65th with all the family. Thoroughly recommend.

Good experience shame my carves liver was over cooked, tough,and sinnuey .

We booked for lunch on Sunday for 4 people. Our starters were good and came fairly quickly but we then had to wait over an hour for our mains as there had been some communication failures between the serving staff and the kitchen. When they finally arrived the fish and chips and Sunday roast were good but my wife’s steak was well done rather than rare and my daughters meal looked like it had been sat out for a long time waiting for the rest of the meals to be prepared. When we came to pay there were also delays as they had confused the bills on 2 other tables so were having to sort that out first. Overall the service was very disorganised and made what would have been a nice meal out remembered for the wrong reasons

Not the best food. 10/10 for service. The beers were ok. Very busy bank holiday weekend that must have put their kitchen under strain because the roast beef was literally raw and inedible. I like a rare steak but this was tasteless slices of uncooked meat. Yorkshire pud was a bit cardboard like. Vegetables cold. Lovely hot cheesy cauliflower in presented in a bowl on the plate. The meal looked the part when served up to me and in all fairness three of our party of six had the beef and mine was the only beef like it. Just a case of being too busy to take that extra bit of care of food quality. Priced £22.95 for roast beef.... not worth it sorry.

Very good service but we found the food pricey yet lacking. My chestnut roast was good but the mushroom Wellington was a real disappointment as were the sausages (in Sausage and mash dish). All in all expensive for what it was. We sat in the outside hut which was weather proof if a but tricky with a baby. The chap serving us was lovely though.

I had a roast turkey dinner which was extremely good. Meat, roast potatoes, pigs in blankets and stuffing were well cooked and I had a good variety of vegtables. In fact it was the best roast meal in a restaurant that I have ever had.

Great popular local pub and venue good car park easy access

We had a family reception for a loved one after his funeral. We were delighted with the service, and selection of food.

We just arrived as the kitchen was mid process of closing. Luckily I think 1 of the staff of kitchen came out & told us what is available & she can do. All great. Will go again. Depends of other half as she likes not to go to same place too often.

Couldn't fault it, the great food and hot, alot of choice for all the family, staff friendly and helpful, great service didn't have to wait ages for it to arrive, been there a few times now and always great from the time you sit down and the time you leave, would definitely recommend

A seminrural pub with a great location near Cheasington and Surrey. The menu is interesting and eclectic. The prawn lollipop and beef chilli nachos were very flavoursome and clearly popular.

Visited again today. Had a wait for food, then got told vacate table after only an hour of eating. Also found food quite salty. Also no veg with the chicken pie

Nice pub. Just ordered a couple of drinks and some chips. Portion of chips was quite small though.

Nice food and good service reasonably priced too. Need to book though as it gets busy. It's a bit dark though inside they could do with it being a bit brighter, we went at lunchtime and it was too gloomy to read menu and see your food.

Food was really nice but not cheap. Tandoori sea bass was very nice. Service was ok but a little slow at times but it was Saturday evening and busy. Would go again.

We had a lovely lunch, hasn't let us down in the last few years of visiting. Big attraction other than the food is that there is a dog-friendly area. Staff are always friendly and helpful. Will be back again soon!

Staff friendly, pub very busy. Avoid doughballs, they are large and rather tasteless. Main course sizes were fair, dessert the crumble was a good portion size, the vegan biscoff cheesecake was amazing but a slither not a slice and not worth £6.95 and we had that as a sharing dish but ordered Pecan pie to go ( before we saw portion size), waitress said put it through separate when we pay then. We settled the bill and left but then realised we didn’t get given Pecan pie, we headed back to check receipt left on table and we were charged, so went to bar and then were kept 10 mins waiting for it and to our disappointment it was again a slither. Whilst again it tasted fantastic, not to sweet it was not worth the money or the wait of ten minutes.

I've eaten dinner here a few times now and the quality of the meals have been consistent. Always tasty, hot and fresh and a good portion size. Dessert is lovely too. Very good pub grub. The price point is an accurate reflection of the meals I would say. Even better price point if you use a Barons card and recieve discount. The service is okay... I wouldn't say staff are attentive and across the three visits I have been most recently, no one checks you are good for drinks once your first order is in after seating. This could certainly be improved but wouldn't stop me from visiting again. The staff however are polite and pleasant. Overall, great local venue for food and a drink.

Great pub restaurant with excellent parking and outdoor areas. The food is a little more expensive but the quality and all round experience is worth it .

First visit to The Star for a while & the food was really good ,best pub Beef for a long time.Staff really friendly & looked after us well only minor blip was having to ask 3 times for water on our table but that’s the only blemish on a decent meal out.

A great place for families and friends to share a meal, no complaints on the food side, friendly service and great for kids. This was my second visit while meeting friends with young children. Great to stop off after a day at Chessington or passing by.

Three of us met up for a pre-Christmas gathering and we were absolutely delighted with our experience at the Star. The staff were attentive from the get-go. The place was subtly decorated for the festive season. The menu offered a wide variety to cater for all tastes and dietary need. The food was excellent and good value for money. The atmosphere was pleasantly busy and we all remarked on the fact that whilst Christmas songs were playing in the background, the music was not so loud as to hinder your conversation. We will be going back.

Not enough staff to cater at busy times, allergen menu is nitemare, staff and kitchen aren't upto date on allergens for food, waited long periods of time to be served, place seems very unorganised, and could smell drugs from front of pub shame as I've heard good reviews, I ordered nachos from allergen menu looked awful and no vegan cheese wouldn't come back I dont think, sorry

Service great as always but otherwise what a real downturn in food quality and attention to detail. Sticky tables, plates, glasses, flat soft drinks, dirty menus. Food had clearly been left under heat lamps and was poorly cooked, overdone burger, soggy boiled ribs and rock hard chicken fillet. Not worth the price anymore.

As a smoker, they only have 2 ashtrays outside. The gents sign says baby changing facilities. Inside they have a designated baby nappy bin... But I couldn't find a baby changing shelf inside the toilet.

Lovely food, great atmosphere and friendly staff

The ultimate burger was something else! I have a decent appetite and even I struggled with it, so good. Chicken wing starter was okay and the crumble pudding was a little lacking.

Brilliant place! We just popped in for a meal and we were amazed by the service! The food was delicious and everyone was friendly, helpful and fast! Will definitely return!

Been here quite a lot over the years! Today's evening meal was tasty and better than when I last visited and consequently went from 3 stars to 4. Good and friendly service. I was dining on my own and was well looked after. A good spot for walkers & cyclists, with plenty of lovely walks around.

We went here for dinner after going to Chessington World of Adventure. The staff were very welcoming and attentive. Food was amazing and there was a good gluten free selection for my wife. We both had the ribs and the meat fell off the bone and had loads of flavour. Everyone had a good size portion so no one went home hungry. If I'm in that area again would definitely go back.

Went on Sunday. Had to wait for the table to be ready so went to the bar. Waited 20 minutes to get a drink as only 1 person serving ( loads of people doing other stuff ). Ordered the food which took 30 minutes to arrive. The food was luke warm at best and the vegetables were only slightly cooked. Shame really as we get a different experience each time we visit. The servers were amazing which is a real + point.

We attended at The Star today as they hosted my dad’s wake and everything was just as we could have wanted with friendly attentive staff and a delicious buffet. Would recommend them without hesitation. Thank you.

Great pub with good food. The pub exterior looks smaller than its enormous interior and the staff are all welcoming and attentive. Plenty of parking outside, easy road access and equally easy access for the mobility challenged. Met up with very good old friends here and the orders were varied from liver & mash, to chicken burgers, ribs & ribs to fresh fish. All were very good. Portions were generous and tasty. Finished off the meal with Kahlua coffees which were excellent

Lived in the area for 20+ years. Heard many good things but never managed to arrange a visit. Checked reviews on local pubs before deciding on The Star as it had 1k more reviews than the other surrounding pubs. We ordered, waitress asked if we would like the kids mains to arrive with our starters which was a thoughtful suggestion. Here’s where it’s all went down hill… everyone’s mains turned up first, they took them back and brought out the kids meals, 15 min later our starters were brought out. We then had to ask for the side veg that came with kids meal. Once we all finished, I waited 30min and still no one came to clear plates. I stacked everyone’s plates on the end of the table thinking they may get the hint but no. 40 min later the starter plates were taken away. I followed up 20 min later for our mains to be told it will be at least another 30min. This was a 12pm sitting, so not busy yet and no reason for any issues. After being there for over 1h and 30min, I asked if we could just cancel the mains. Staff couldn’t have cared less, no apologies for their sill mistakes at the start or for the crazy delay for our main. No offer to deduct any starters from our bill and then thanks us for coming and wish us a great day…. Like nothing had happened or simply didn’t care. 1h and 30min plus to not see any mains. Terrible. Took my family and parents there for a family meal and no one got lunch. Should have stuck with the Grumpy Mole. They never fail.

Nice place... staff excellent. It was not that warm, no need to leave all the doors and windows open.
