I love this pub, regularly come for a drink and lovely atmosphere. My only qualm is never come here on a Sunday afternoon- this pub is no better than a crèche. The Crouch End Elite come here with their noisy children and let them run wild around the tables, and unfortunately the staff do nothing to stop them. It’s noisy and screechy and deeply unpleasant. What a shame!

We watched three of the England games at the Euros here, and tried to watch a fourth (the QF) but they'd closed half the pub off for a private event - fair enough I guess if they've got a lucrative booking, but seemed like a shame on such a significant day, and left us scrambling to find somewhere else! The atmosphere for big games is great, they have a good beer selection and the staff are friendly. We did encounter a few issues though, including booking a table for the semi-final then arriving to find that it had been 'lost in the system' somehow (have seen other reviews complaining about the same thing). I also think they need to do something about the pressue on their beer taps - there were ridiculous waiting times at the bar on the night of the final because the taps were pouring so slowly, I swear they could have sold twice as much beer that night if they'd sorted it!

Memories are made of this. We had a tribal gathering where Isobel and I saw not just our great grandson for the first time, but granddaughters we had not seen in years. This celebration of all the generations was made perfect by the kindness and care that Jo, Phil and their team lavished on us. The food was wonderful, as ever. And the room they prepared so that all of us could sit around the same table made it very special indeed. If you’re planning a festive board, then the Stapleton Arms is the place to go.

We booked to watch the Euros and received a booking confirmation email. We asked to amend it but received a response saying all customers needed to be in by 6:30pm as it's going to be busy. However on arrival it turned out this wasn't true as there were tables booked for later than I'd booked. There also wasn't a table for us and clearly whoever works in the office had continued to take bookings even when there weren't tables available. Obviously they were safe in the office or probably left for the day, whilst the bar staff had to deal with the fall out of this. The bar staff said management had also taken bookings for standing space but not told customers it was a standing booking?! The two women behind the bar who I spoke to were unbelievably accommodating and managed to find a table and some chairs from other tables to ensure we weren't left without a booking. The one good thing about being told to turn up early was that this could be rectified as if I got there any later, I would have been left standing and it was incredibly busy. I felt sorry for them having to deal with management clearly overbooking and having zero empathy for their staff who had to deal with many angry customers who were in the same position as me. I'd visited here for a roast before and had really high praise for this place, however it's now been marred by seemingly greedy management. Well done to the bar staff but please be wary when booking tables for the football here.

I have lived in Finsbury Park for almost ten years, and this pub is the best. It hasn’t always been this way, but when I visited yesterday, I was overwhelmed by the great service and genuine care for everyone watching the match. The vibe embodies the true local spirit. Andy, who served me, showed the kind of class you would expect from a high-end restaurant. Speaking of which, the food is the best in N4! The chef is excellent 👌. There are a lot of pubs in N4, but this one is nailing it.

Went with a pre-booked group for Sunday lunch. Roast beef was good but the veg were tired. Service was amazingly quick, perhaps because they had already prepared plates of food in expectation of a rush, which may explain the state of the veg. Beer was staggeringly expensive at about £6.50 a pint but this is a non-townie speaking. I guess it's not unusual for London. It's a big old traditional London pub with a friendly atmosphere. Toilets were a disgrace - and that's the Ladies which I had to use because the Gents was out of action. Not that it seems to matter these days.

Been there twice in last week. Manager working very hard. Rest of staff extremely lazy and no awareness of customers needs. Not too busy and you can wait 5 minutes to be served while staff slowly polish wine glasses as opposed to doing what should be done… put glass down, serve then go back to polishing. Many staff do not even say please or Thankyou. Early afternoon and staff play shocking house type music. They are soon going to become the mirror imagine of the shocking excuse of a pub over the road “the dairy”. It’s a shame as it isn’t rocket science. Non lazy and polite staff are all that is needed…. Sure the pay isn’t great but if you don’t want to put a half decent days work in don’t even take the job. Shocking shocking shocking bad attitude staff other than the manager.

Visited for a birthday party. Pleased with range of beers and products available. Service was generally good and prompt and reasonably friendly. The venue itself is nice and spacious with high ceilings but doesn't really have an identity of its own and the generic music left playing in the background was bland and was not to our personal taste. Can't please everyone, I suppose.

very expensive for what you get. we got the aubergine roast as that was all that was left. it was fine nothing special. veg wasn’t cooked nicely very hard potatoes were bland not roasted nicely with a crunch but soft and hard at the same time. the greens were nice and so was the yorkshire but that’s not enough to make the roast. the reason for my bad review isn’t the main roast dinner even though it was mediocre and not worth the money. my real issue is with the cauliflower cheese. is that a joke? would rather someone piss in my mouth and give me some cauliflower to chew on. the cheese sauce wasn’t a cheese sauce it was non existent. just cauliflower swimming in murky water with a hard burnt layer of cheese on top. the girl who served us was lovely and the only nice part of the evening.

Friendly bar staff and a great pub to have a pint and enjoy a conversation. Sometimes there's a bit of live music, which is a bonus to the area, but none of the overbearing 'pumped' music found elsewhere - so you can actually talk (if you want too!). Environment is 'traditional and quirky' rather than the sterile 'All Bar One' style and all the better for it! Recommended.

Used to be a regular in here. Not anymore. The most expensive pub in Stroud Green for very average beer and lager. Like the majority have said the toilets are an absolute disgrace. Reading the comments from the owner from six months ago who said they were going to sort them out, but if anything they've got worse in that time. If Health & Safety saw it they'd shut the place down! The owners are treating their customers like mugs. Only gets two for the big screen football and the staff. The rest makes me feel ill.

The wine is generally poor. Do you still have a picture of a member of the royal family on the wall? If so, you've fatally misjudged your demographic. Wanted to spoil a friend visiting England with a Sunday roast. Heard good things so thought would try. Unfortunately it was so dreadful. The service! The waitress was more concerned flirting and chatting to the chef and her friends than taking our order. We had to call her eventually to take our order. We had the sirloin roast. And was absolutely like jerky! So tough! No flavour. Cooked dry. No steak knives. The roast potatoes tasted old and cooked a few days before. And way to hard. Not even crunchy. Just hard and stale. But we were so hungry and paid £18 for it. We ate it. We then sat for over 20 mins with the dirty plates in front of us while the waitress set up tables that she hadn’t even wiped down after people left and continued to talk to the chef. Eventually I had to ask the gentleman waiter to remove our plates. We were debating having dessert. But the service was so so so awful and after such a let down on the Sunday roast. We honestly just wanted to get out!! I would highly suggest training for the waiters and perhaps a slightly different approach on the roast beef. The service was shocking!! I definitely won’t be back and sadly won’t recommend.

Sit yourself down, let me tell you a story about The Stapleton Tavern. Once upon a time, as London town sunk in to twilight, I found myself tired from a hard day of work and in desperate need of a drink. On a mighty quest, I went, around Finsbury Parklike a thirsty vagabond. Alas, no bar in the vicinity could satisfy my mighty needs. The drinks turned to ash in my mouth, the barstaff, corrupted by evil. There I was, stranded, sober and on the brink of a mental shutdown. But, wait- There, on the horizon, I saw it. The Stapleton Tavern. It glimmered in the distance like a shiny beacon of hope. As I entered, I had to reach for my shades, as here, I could tell my future was bright. The beer glistened, like the shiny nectar of the gods, the barstaff where wonderful, they felt like family, I finally felt at home. There was one cheeky chap, I'll never forget his name, Stuart Anderson was it? That lovable smile. I'll never forget the way he poured my pint, pure perfection. It was art. I stayed for another, my time there was like the shadow of a unicorns dream, a whisper on the lips of a ghost. I shall return for many years to come, the The Stapleton Tavern, home from home. 10/10 would recommend

Excellent experience, typical English pub with orders via app or at the counter. Fast service, helpful staff and food all normal. Convenient prices. I would go back!

Avoid - baffled and baffling service, multiple hour wait for food. We ordered roast chicken; a normal portion is half a chicken but barely an eighth turned up. Prompting the (baffled) waiting staff resulted in another sad-looking eighth turning up on a side plate. Starters were good but definitely not worth the hour they took to turn up (after nearly an hour waiting to order). Not sure how this business is still solvent. Edit: thanks for the prompt response during I’m sure busy service. This was as agonising meal which tested the patience. Not sure the chicken was the main point of my review but to be specific the chicken only became a supreme once both parts were delivered (separately, after prompting) to form a leg and a breast. As I said, starters were good. Mains were fine, subject to chicken portionage, but had lost a lot of goodwill by the time we got them. Maybe better on a Tuesday.

Food, service, and atmosphere are all good. The taste of cold beer is also excellent. Two thumbs up 👍
