very expensive for what you get. we got the aubergine roast as that was all that was left. it was fine nothing special. veg wasn’t cooked nicely very hard potatoes were bland not roasted nicely with a crunch but soft and hard at the same time. the greens were nice and so was the yorkshire but that’s not enough to make the roast. the reason for my bad review isn’t the main roast dinner even though it was mediocre and not worth the money. my real issue is with the cauliflower cheese. is that a joke? would rather someone piss in my mouth and give me some cauliflower to chew on. the cheese sauce wasn’t a cheese sauce it was non existent. just cauliflower swimming in murky water with a hard burnt layer of cheese on top. the girl who served us was lovely and the only nice part of the evening.

Noisy quiz night, grim toilets, if that's your thing

Went for a Sunday roast, and the food was really good. One of the best pub roasts I’d had in a long time.

Great cosy local pub with high ceilings and lots of room for larger parties. Sports shown, but not a sporty pub. Good for families and dog friendly, a good place to play games with friends

Unfortunatley this was how our chicken burger was served. Extremely dry bread and was difficult to chew the chicken. Asked for ketchup, but had to wait until we had almost finished our chips (small portion) to recieve it. Not just over priced but the food was of extremely bad quality. I know businesses are in hard times, but now a chef or service staff could think it was okay to service this is sad to see

Wouldnt let me (1 person) order food as the kitchen was "backed up" and wouldn't let me bring food in. I was very polite and manager was really rude. Terrible service.

I’ve only attended the Stapleton Tavern for beers and football matches. Can strongly recommend it when Arsenal is playing - the atmosphere is electric.

Great atmosphere. Lovely staff. Has football on a Sunday but doesn’t bring usual football crowd and didn’t even notice it was on from dining room. Spacious and well laid out. Good for groups or pint at bar.

The staff are lovely, but sadly our food was not great the sirloin was very ropey and chewy, we had to complain about it and they gave us a discount. It was a special occasion that could have been more enjoyable. The pub is accepting of kids and babies but I had to clean the changing unit before use, this should be better.

Friendly bar staff and a great pub to have a pint and enjoy a conversation. Sometimes there's a bit of live music, which is a bonus to the area, but none of the overbearing 'pumped' music found elsewhere - so you can actually talk (if you want too!). Environment is 'traditional and quirky' rather than the sterile 'All Bar One' style and all the better for it! Recommended.

Used to be a regular in here. Not anymore. The most expensive pub in Stroud Green for very average beer and lager. Like the majority have said the toilets are an absolute disgrace. Reading the comments from the owner from six months ago who said they were going to sort them out, but if anything they've got worse in that time. If Health & Safety saw it they'd shut the place down! The owners are treating their customers like mugs. Only gets two for the big screen football and the staff. The rest makes me feel ill.

Had a great time here. Big lounge area, great for groups too. Board games, fire place. Unfortunately no food but great for beer, wine and shots. Sports screen and board games. Used to be plain but a few decent decorations and quirky furniture here and there has done it a world of good. Recomended

Has become the best pub in Stroud Green Road. Great cask selection and friendly staff. And a top pub quiz on Thursdays.

I hadn't visited the pub for many years. It was called The Stapleton Hall Tavern in those days after the local road. Forgotten how large it was. Great for groups.

Great pub except one bartender. We asked why they were showing the Liverpool vs west ham game on the big TV and her response was - "there are more Liverpool fans coming to the pub, if you had been here the last few years you would know". Really rudenand obnoxious. She looks about 24, I've been living in the area 37 years and been coming to the pub on off for 15 years. Thanks for the condescending remarks. Everyone else is lovely.

Great pub. I’ve always loved this place and amazing staff! Real shame about the new menu. Very limited and can’t understand why it’s changed might have to go somewhere else to eat now as there’s not much to choose from that I like. The menus brings this pub down. I want to come but it’s giving me no choice when it comes to eating. But can’t fault the staff and the general environment

Lovely place, usually good beer, top staff, great quiz. You asked what you could do better. You claim to be a gastropub but only have four things on the menu. Food's good but could be cheaper. The wine is generally poor. Do you still have a picture of a member of the royal family on the wall? If so, you've fatally misjudged your demographic. Why don't you just have a full-frontal of Enoch Powell and be done with it?

Was on a first date and nice space and great staff members and they have lots of activities eg pub quiz etc

Ordered fish and chips and they brought it out in about 5 minutes, which was worrying. The fish was dry and overcooked whilst the batter was pale undercooked. The worst of both worlds for 15 quid.

Been for drinks a few times. Whether quiet or crowded bar staff are friendly, helpful and prompt. Good selection at the bar. Personally preferred our weekday visits as the old building amplifies the voices of a busy Saturday night crowd.

Really nice, shame they don’t make food on Mondays anymore. Heaps of seating room and plenty of beers.

Decent pub - nice friendly bar staff. Plenty of seats and not bad selection on tap. Back toilets are atrocious, but lots of quirky little touches elsewhere. Looks like a good spot to watch the football with various screens around and I noticed a large projector screen too.

Wanted to spoil a friend visiting England with a Sunday roast. Heard good things so thought would try. Unfortunately it was so dreadful. The service! The waitress was more concerned flirting and chatting to the chef and her friends than taking our order. We had to call her eventually to take our order. We had the sirloin roast. And was absolutely like jerky! So tough! No flavour. Cooked dry. No steak knives. The roast potatoes tasted old and cooked a few days before. And way to hard. Not even crunchy. Just hard and stale. But we were so hungry and paid £18 for it. We ate it. We then sat for over 20 mins with the dirty plates in front of us while the waitress set up tables that she hadn't even wiped down after people left and continued to talk to the chef. Eventually I had to ask the gentleman waiter to remove our plates. We were debating having dessert. But the service was so so so awful and after such a let down on the Sunday roast. We honestly just wanted to get out!! I would highly suggest training for the waiters and perhaps a slightly different approach on the roast beef. The service was shocking!! I definitely won't be back and sadly won't recommend.

Relatively handsome pub in-between Finsbury Park and Crouch Hill stations. Beer choice is ok. It was nice to see Five Points on cask although the beer I had was not in good condition at all.

Had a couple of pints in here after an Arsenal game while waiting for the Indian to open across the road. It's a nice big airy place with a nice pint of Neck oil . They show football as well

Sit yourself down, let me tell you a story about The Stapleton Tavern. Once upon a time, as London town sunk in to twilight, I found myself tired from a hard day of work and in desperate need of a drink. On a mighty quest, I went, around Finsbury Parklike a thirsty vagabond. Alas, no bar in the vicinity could satisfy my mighty needs. The drinks turned to ash in my mouth, the barstaff, corrupted by evil. There I was, stranded, sober and on the brink of a mental shutdown. But, wait- There, on the horizon, I saw it. The Stapleton Tavern. It glimmered in the distance like a shiny beacon of hope. As I entered, I had to reach for my shades, as here, I could tell my future was bright. The beer glistened, like the shiny nectar of the gods, the barstaff where wonderful, they felt like family, I finally felt at home. There was one cheeky chap, I'll never forget his name, Stuart Anderson was it? That lovable smile. I'll never forget the way he poured my pint, pure perfection. It was art. I stayed for another, my time there was like the shadow of a unicorns dream, a whisper on the lips of a ghost. I shall return for many years to come, the The Stapleton Tavern, home from home. 10/10 would recommend

Great place to watch football and the draft beer on tap is consistently good quqlity. They seem to have closed the kitchen though - which is a shame.

Worst Sunday roast I've ever had. awful buffalo wings, probably made with Frank's sauce. The buttered greens side is an insult.

It's recently started selling a more interesting range of cask ales. Part of the Volden chain, and they always have Volden session plus one or two guests. When it's on my favourite is Wadworth 6x.

This is my local pub and I've been coming here for a while. Beers are good and change frequently. I've even drunk Robinsons in here which took me back to my late teens in mid-Cheshire. There are usually four real ales and usually include one of Volden's creations. Staff are friendly and varied. Good food too. Sunday roasts. Pinball machine. Edit (one year later, late October 2021): like most pubs it suffered during lockdown but has been working hard to recover. The pinball machine has gone. The table football remains. Dog friendly especially on Sunday afternoons. Still friendly.

The ladies toilets are grim here. OK pub. Preferred how it used to be in the 90s.

This place has some nice lagers and looks really good but we've had some trouble with the food. First time we ordered the plant burgers they brought us the beef burgers instead - the waiter insisted we didn't say 'plant' but we definitely did. Tonight we called to see if we needed to book and the man on the phone said they didn't take bookings but we'd be fine to just show up in an hour. We did and it turned out all the tables had been booked. Not sure why he said that. Since we weren't staying long we got given a table anyway so there's that. They got our order right this time but the burgers (and obviously I'm aware taste is subjective) were disgusting. I think it was the cheese. Drink-wise this place is absolutely fine but the food needs a lot of work

As usual, the beers are great and the staff are lovely. The Stapleton is the only pub I feel comfortable drinking in post lockdown, because of their strict adherence to the guidance. All staff have clearly been trained on how to keep the environment as safe as possible and it's obvious that they are taking it very seriously. It's reassuring to see that they haven't become lax like some other places I've been to.

A regular favourite of mine when in Finsbury Park. It’s well worth the walk up Stroud Green Road. The menu has been the same for a while now, which I’m taking a star off for, but it’s always well-cooked. Get there early as it fills up! They unfortunately do play sports but you can avoid these in the back room. Decor is comfortable and cosy. And the weekly pub quizzes are fun!
