A traditional pub in Victoria/Pimlico, with tremendous food (get the fish and chips and also the sticky toffee pudding), chill atmosphere, great beer selection, and a bunch of great guys behind the bar.

An almost perfect evening for recounting war stories of life in City law. Only hiccup: the chap from Leeds, frugal to the core, attempted that tried and tested trick of ordering a starter for a main. He was suitably chastised and charmed into ordering the most expensive Ribera del Duero on the menu (a princely £78). That’ll teach the Yorkshire Building Society to pinch pennies.

The answer is £31.50. However 2 x display boards advertise £26 for pie and mash in this lively pub. Steep for pub grub, however it's irresistible Bar keep offers me contactless and as I am paying I notice I've been charged £31.50. Whys that I ask. Answer the pie and mash is now £28 those chalk boards apparently haven't been updated in donkeys years. And then £3.50 for a sneaky service charge which wasn't mentioned and is hardly merited in a pub. Caveat emptor. Pheasant pie delicious. Mash ok. Gravy lovely. All overshadowed by very shady practices. Only noticed because I was on my own and I didn't order a drink. They're evidently relying on a lack of attention being paid. I asked for my pie please at £26 and I was told that they couldn't because the button is set at £28. Bar staff lovely. Management shady.

Attend the exhibition at the winery and come for a light lunch at noon The menu is very interesting with many dishes made using traditional methods This time I chose rabbit stew It's possible that it's been simmered too thoroughly, so you can't actually taste any texture or texture. The sauce is very salty. But the mashed potatoes are very dense and the vegetables are fresh Nothing to complain about. As far as a casual meal at an exhibition is paid for by the boss.

We had a light pre-cinema dinner. It looks like an attractive pub, but if you have a look through the pass into the kitchen, this operation is really a full scale restaurant that happens to be well stocked with wines by the glass and beer and cider on tap. Service is attentive and the staff are knowledgeable about the menu. Our waitress didn't need to run to the kitchen to get answers to our questions. I had the venison tartare, which waitress pointed out was starter and helpfully suggested I order fries to make it a meal. The venison tartare was made with bone marrow and delicious, served in a bone and garnished with a few waffle chips. The tartare was of the clean and meaty variety moistened with olive oil instead of egg yolk and didn't contain acidic ingredients. Coarse salt was served on the side. Accompanying toast was thinly sliced sourdough, with grill marks and a drizzle of good olive oil. The waitress was right to advise me to order a side of regular chips, which were cut very fat and served with homemade mayo and store bought ketchup. My companion had the vegetarian celeriac risotto which turned out to be spelt instead of rice. The grain was specified on the menu but we hadn't noticed. It was buttery and rich with a nice chewy texture. We'll be back next time we have an event at the Barbican. The menu style is meaty with an emphasis on nose to tail ingredients and game. They do offer a vegetarian main, but any vegetarian will have to tolerate the meaty smells emanating from the kitchen. At the time of our visit there a couple of tempting seafood options. A light dinner with a glass of wine and half pint of cider came to £58.

My husband and I got married at The Jugged Hare in December, and I cannot speak highly enough about the experience. The staff went above and beyond to create a day that felt truly special—they were phenomenal in every way. The food was absolutely exceptional; it’s one of the rare weddings where guests are still raving about the meal long after the day has passed. And let me not forget to mention their espresso martinis—they are genuinely the best I’ve ever had. If you’re considering The Jugged Hare for your wedding, I couldn’t recommend them more. They made our day unforgettable!

I love the vibes in here but it’s certainly not for vegetarians … a little brutal but cozy at the same time. Lots of animal heads! :O We had Sunday roast, and all the options sounded delicious, but I think the best choice is the lamb with mint sauce! It was so tender and tasty, good gravy and lovely vegetables, with the sauce adding a tangy zing. This yorkshire pudding did not impress me though :( I tried some of the pork and beef from other people and they were good too, but lamb was best. Dessert was good, solid pudding, super caramelly delicious, but the cheesecake was a bit rigid and a bit too sour. Don’t know if dark chocolate ice cream was the best pairing but meh. Overall it was a nice roast, good for big groups.

We were so excited for the Sunday roast here at this beautiful restaurant. When we first arrived the hostess seemed annoyed at us being there. Then once seated we ordered a simple roast and a beer and orange juice. The food was of average quality and we never received our drinks. When presented with the bill I simply pointed out we were never served the drinks and to take it off the bill. The girl who helped us seemed very upset by this request. Overall not a positive experience.

Very odd experience, we had booked 11 covers for xmas lunch which we are required to pre pay, unfortunately a member of our party died between booking and the meal. The restaurant made clear no refunds on pre booked meals which i thought was harsh given the circumstances. However i spoke to the restaurant when we arrived and they said they would remove the extra cost from the final bill. They then did not do this and said we only paid for 10, bear in mind we have 11 email confirmations that had been paid. I wasnt in the mood to argue given we are all still grieving and simply told them to remove the service charge (which was double what we were asking to be deducted) so ultimately the restaurant lost out plus any future custom, we had been coming for a number of years now. shocking customer service i want to highlight

It was our team Christmas lunch and we chose from the Xmas menu. The food was tasty and well cooked, but not overly hot. The main course portions were not very big either. I chose the venison, which was cooked perfectly, but there were no potatoes served with the dish, just a few sprigs of tenderstem broccoli, a spoonful of braised red cabbage (delicious) and a venison bonbon. Overall, I do not think the meal was good value for the cost (£65 for two courses). The Xmas crackers were a nice touch. The restaurant was noisy and lively, with a lot of groups of people, presumably having their work Christmas lunches too. We had a lovely waitress named Lauren who looked after us well. She was friendly and attentive and made us feel welcome. The only tiny criticism I have is that I asked Lauren if the pub sold 0% gin and was told that there was only 0% sparkling wine. We moved to the bar area after lunch and I was able to order a 0% gin. Either Lauren has not been advised of the no or low alcohol drinks on offer or she misheard me. No big deal but I feel it is worth mentioning for training purposes.

We visited here with friends as my husband really wanted to go to a restaurant which served game food. We had some beautiful dishes, my favourite was the black pudding croquettes. The rabbit pie was rich, but lovely, same for my friends jugged hare dish. The grouse was particularly excellent. The menu changes so it was nice to have such a range of game options. The wine was great, but if i was being picky, I could have done with some cheaper options to keep the drinks flowing! They had ran out of certain ones so it was £60-70 a bottle. The decor was fitting, loved the taxidermy. If i was in the area again i would like to try more of their dishes.

Returning to the Jugged Hare for the first time in about a decade it is still as amazing as I remember it being when I was younger. The general ambience of the restaraunt is one of a warm and welcoming environment and this is also reflected in the attitude of the staff. The staff here are incredibly helpful and very welcoming. In paticular our waitress Lauren who was very friendly and made the entire meal an all round cheerfull experience. She also was very attentive, always there right when we were about to ask for a refill of chablis or for some more sparkling water, she even managed to tempt us into having some amazing deserts. Food and drink wise everything was amazing. The selection of meats on the charcuterie board is complement eachother nicely with my favorite being the goat Nduja. For the mains the burger is amazing. The well balanced mixture of pork, beef and goat creates a rich medly of flavours that are enhanced by the sauce. The burger is perfectly filling though a tad heavy. The mackeral and crab was described by my grandfather as an excellent dish and he noted that though it might not look like a large portion the rich crab meat goes perfectly and it is in fact very filling. He also mentioned that it was perfectly complemented by the Chablis. My father, often a man of few words, had only one thing to say about the Vegetarian stew dish and that was "sublime". For desert I enjoyed a truly amazing sticky toffee pudding with a warm butterscoth sauce and a very smooth salted caramel ice cream. (Photo attached) This dish was the perfect way to round off an already amazing meal. My sister had a gooseberry and mint pie with vanilla ice cream and described the gooseberries as being "pops of flavor" of which the tartness mixed well with the ice cream. My grandfather who had the Chocolate and Bailey's Semifreddo describe it as "rich with an intense flavour" and seemed to thouroughly enjoy it. Finally the cheeseboard which my father and mother had was described as full of flavour and they made sure to mention that it was nicely complemented by the sweet notes of the port. Overall, dinner at the Jugged Hare was a delightful experience made all the more so by the amazing staff like Lauren and I look forward to returning when I am next in london.

Horrible Service. It was recommended by a tour I took. They refused to honor the voucher and stole 7 pounds from me that I pre-paid for a beer. Refused to serve me because their guy was "New" and didn't know better... I would stay away. These people do not know how to treat customers!!

Staff absolutely super nice.! Came For a Guinness but stayed for a few starter dish. Fast service, food was great, shame only doing roast on Sunday.. Will be back for sure.

Busy, crammed pub behind the Barbican. Ordered two glasses of wine (not specified which should mean house wine): £42, which even for London is rather extortionate. (July 2024)

My wife and I had to have a proper Sunday roast while we were in London and our nephew who lived here for 15 years said to go to the Jugged Hare, a great Gastro pub in the City of London. We were not disappointed by yet another brilliant recommendation. The atmosphere is hunting lodge fun, the staff were all friendly and despite our 730 reservation, they were still able to serve us our Sunday roast (we whiled away the afternoon at the Tate’s Expressionist Exhibit). Candidly, our waitress Lauren made all the difference in our evening with her charming repartee, great advice, menu guidance and general good cheer. She expertly balanced supporting our dining experience while not being intrusive. They are really quite fortunate to have such a pro on their team. My Welsh Leg of Lamb was medium rare and tasty as was the excellent mint jelly and the Yorkshire pudding and gravy (in my mind the whole point of a Sunday roast) was superb. My wife opted for a perfectly prepared pan seared Cod Filet. We were both surprised by the side of really well prepared kale and the roast potatoes were also something to write home about - crispy on the outside and buttery smooth on the inside. My wife raved about the sticky toffee pudding. I can’t have dairy and to my delight and surprise they had and absolutely delicious dairy free cheese cake with a chocolate sorbet that was as good as any I have had. We would we go back - in a quick second - especially to try one of their specialty game dishes - though we might check to see if Lauren is working.

We went for a team brunch, the venue had pretty much just opened for the day so was a bit chilly at first. We came for the bottomless brunch, we ordered our first round of drinks, we decided what food we wanted, only to be informed there was no brunch option only burgers and pizza... A bit disappointing not to be told this as we were seated. However drinks did flow and the burgers were great it is Def a value for money experience. Maybe next time we'll actually get brunch...

Chelsea was an absolute star who made the afternoon and evening special for us. She looked after us by constantly checking in on us, asking if we wanted food or drinks. Very rare to have such good service in London. We will be back as a result. Thanks Chelsea

Beautiful setting and meal. Excellent service from Lenka who was thoughtful and unhurried in helping us decide what to eat and drink. Made everything feel relaxed and special, she couldn't have taken better care of us and the cocktails by Pawel were delicious.
