The Sir john Oldcastle in Islington

This Spoons is very convenient to Farringdon Tube, but it’s not a ‘classic’ one, as other reviewers have claimed. As a Spoons veteran I can tell you that the food, service and booze are all up to scratch. However, the actual venue is a bit run down and there are serious issues about patrons being robbed — even to the extent that they’ve got warnings near the door. If you go, try the morning or afternoon, but I would avoid the evening

A Wetherspoons. No more, no less!

I don't usually trek this far up in London. But I decided to visit this pub to see what it was like. I must say, I'm very impressed. The service was a bit slow, but that is understandable as it was very busy. Normally, I would've given the service 4 stars, but that would've been unfair to these guys and gals. I wasn't hungry, so I couldn't say anything bad about the food, so I'm still giving it a 5 star rating. With that said, great job, guys and gals.

We always ate in this pub even though we had the apartment. Brilliant solution because with an average of 13-14 pounds each you ate a nice dish and drank what you wanted!

Very good Wetherspoons close to Farringdon Station. Lots of room inside inside and very clean. Always serve a good pint here and the food is decent. Will visit again.

Basic Wetherspoon, you gotta run after them because they forgot your side once the main arrived.

Just like a normal Wetherspoons pub, atmosphere is always noisy, food prices are reasonable with a wide selection of drinks. You can order through the app or at the bar.

The worst Wetherspoons pub I've ever been to. I visited on Christmas Eve, there were about 8 other customers so I struggle to understand how they put out such bad food. Here's a photo of my "pigs in blankets", on the top of my burger with a skewer through the top of it. The bacon was burnt to the point of being crumbling carbon.

Food always nice an freshly prepared.

Every time when we are in London, we visit this Pub. Even at Saturday evening you get a comfortable seat.

Great spoons right near the station was packed when we got there only just managed to get a table. Other than that was your standard spoons in case of the food and drinks, can never go wrong with it.

Great service from all the staff. Izida was the perfect hostess and really looked after us.

This is my usual spot especially after uni. I would love to give my appreciation to Steffy! She is a fantastic person who helped me and you can tell she does her job with passion!! The staff members too are amazing! If I could, I would definitely give more than 5 stars to everyone.

Large Wetherspoons on the Farringdon Road opposite Cowcross Street, which leads to Farringdon Station 100 yards away. Usually a good choice of real ales at reasonable prices and the Wetherspoons offering of food. We find it a good place to meet if people are travelling from different areas to central London and it is convenient to meet here and move on, either East towards Clerkenwell or West towards Holborn / Hatton Garden.

Lovely staff Too busy for peak time though

For a busy Friday evening the drink service was fantastic! The atmosphere was typical London pub but it was chilled with no trouble. Didn’t eat so couldn’t review that.

Our go to Spoons whe staying in Farringdon, good food,good service

Good service but the chefs are lazy. Waited 20 minutes (app said 7/8min wait tops) for my food at 2pm on a Wednesday (I ordered a BBQ chicken bacon and cheddar cheese panini with chips). Came out and it was so dry it was inedible because there was no sauce. Terrible from the chefs

Sehr interessantes Ambiente, Essen mehr für Allgemein, aber es schmeckt. Würde gerne nochmals hingehen, aber da gerne verschiedene Lokale probieren will, gehe ich gerne woanders. Ansonsten kann ich mit einem ruhigen Gewissen diesen Ort empfehlen.

Traveled from Canada. For the prices, convince of ordering on your phone from table, overall best spot for beers in London. Went to other pubs nothing compares. Cider and beer is great, food is decent. Highly recommend. Was in London for weekend and came here everyday. If you want good cheap drinks and decent food. Sir John Oldcastle is the place. Thank you!!

I didn't eat on this visit, but I enjoyed a very good real ale (see photos). Swift service and a vibrant atmosphere with the pub busy inside and out. It's definitely worth visiting this part of London.

Nice weatherspoons right next to farringdon station

Rude and obnoxious STAFF. Too busy having their own fun to serve. However, the food was good and there's a good range of beers on tap. Coming back? ...Na, plenty of better places.

Friendly atmosphere, nice and spacious, great staff, good for big gatherings

This place can be hit or miss. This applies to the food, staff and general atmosphere. Most staff are very polite and helpful, the security on the door can be silly at times telling me I could only take my juice bottle in if I bought another drink But the bar staff were very happy to fill my bottle with ice as it was a hot day. Sometimes the food is great other times its been overcooked fish or undercooked cheese not melted in toastie, the last of the beans slapped on your plate. The chips portions are not consistent. Overall you get what you pay for.

Typical Wetherspoons with lots of tables and seating. Mobile app ordering worked just fine. This pub is very close to Farringdon Station.

It's always a fun place, however -- Jasmine is an AMAZING server, definitely will keep me coming back.

Jasmine really made my night. Great customer service. Recommended the ultimate burger which I loved.

Ho soggiornato a Londra qualche giorno col mio ragazzo e siamo stati al Sir John Oldcastle 3 o 4 sere per cenare. All'inizio c'è stata un po' di confusione per capire come ordinare, ma poi è stato molto comodo poterlo fare tramite app. Il cibo è buono (classico da pub), purtroppo però alcune cose a volte non vengono specificate all'interno di menú/ app (ex: cipolla) oppure non è possibile rimuovere dal piatto alcuni ingredienti (in caso di allergie o cose che non piacciono non è il massimo). Tutto sommato comunque esperienza positiva e prezzi molto buoni.

It's an okay pub, I just felt it needs a big refurbishment. I didn't order food, but drink service was good.

Traditional wetherspoons. Only thing you can be sure of are the rising prices.

Brexit? I think full exit. Carpet needs a good shampoo. But at least the toilets were clean unlike some of their counterparts.

Nice pub in heart of diamond Quarter. Interesting history about the building on display. Typical Wetherspoons pub. Service was fast and food was excellent. Plenty of seating/tables.

This was a fascinating pub to visit! We like the Wetherspoons chain of pubs and this one did not disappoint.

It’s not the first time I order small fish and chips at Wetherspoons pubs but this one is a joke avoid asking for that unless you only want to have chips…and peas. Don’t bother to complain they don’t care…

We tried their asian curry meal , Chicken jalfrezi and chicken tikka , Chicken tikka was really good , those whi love saucy type they will surely fall for jalfrezi one, Chicken wings with naga dip is my alltime favourite ❤️❤️❤️

EDITED. 2nd visit and the staff were MUCH better and seemed happier. Friday night and usual city idiots that drink once a month, spoil things for everyone because they cannot handle their booze. Staff ejected them eventually. Thank God. Typical wetherspoons. Inattentive rude minimum wage staff. Manager 4 at the bar barking orders and wondering why there's poor service? Maybe get off your backside lady and help your staff?

Just left having stopped by for a bit of rest-bite before my return journey to Sywell. Anna was perfectly polite and professional with a great smile, drinks were as expected and toilets were clean. Thank you - recommended.

This is an iconic venue for lunch or evening meal, right opposite Farringdon Station and very near Smithfield, where Oldcastle was hanged and burned in 1417. I couldn't resist a well-done stake, sorry steak.

Nice pub bar staff very quick to serve, a lot busier on Friday evening had to wait for a table but Saturday there was plenty available, had food which came in around 10 minutes chicken burger was a bit dry but tasted nice

Probably one of the better spoons. We turned up 8am for breakfast for 25 and they accommodated. Food was hot and well presented.

I meet up here with my fellow citizens as they use this delightful old pub as a stop gap When ever Manchester City F.C. are playing at Wembley Stadium The pub serves excellent traditional English food and a wide variety of different types of beers ales and ciders The staff are diligent ,professional and attentive you couldnt ask for anything more. The pub is extensive in it's history and to cap it all for a major London pub The prices are reasonable and affordable.
