It’s not often I write reviews as I prefer to leave my feedback with the staff that are working but on this occasion I felt it was an exception. I’m in the area for the Stevenage town regeneration project and popped down to the cheapest pub I could find. After googling what pubs are in the area I was skeptical about going to this one due to its 3 star reviews but for the price of the beer and the service I received, I think this place deserves a good review. I ordered in the Wetherspoons app that you can download on your phone and they brought my carlsberg over before I could lock my phone! I’ve never been too keen on Wetherspoons but I’ll be returning to this one over the next 4 months I’m in the area

Great service, Food delivered quick and was nice and hot and well presented . Staff were extra friendly and helpful which made a good enjoyable evening

Visited tonight, no food, no kitchen, visited 2 weeks ago, stood at bar waiting to be served 20 minutes, ordered food took 45 minutes to come and on 4th attempt nearly got it right. Awful service! After tonight definitely won’t be going back again, the barmaid seemed quite proud with a smirk on her face telling people there’s no food, suppose it halves her workload. Management really needs to have a serious look at this pub, the tables are always full of glasses and plates (When the chef turns up). Staff seem very lazy and really slow behind the bar, more concerned getting app orders out.

Excellent service one of the best breakfasts that i had on bank Holiday Monday. The food was delicious, but greasy, great hash browns, bacon, sausage, egg and beans, for the price it was delicious, well done to the chef and staff 😀 👍 😋

Had a family afternoon here and after visiting back in October last year I’m very glad to say that it has improved. Friendly staff and the food eat good for pub grub. It’s nice to see staff smiling and being helpful. The general cleanliness of the bun is okay and could do with a refresh but all in all it’s a good pub. I will be back.

Love coming here as its great value for money. The food is good. Staff friendly. The place is always clean to a high standard, I notice one particular cleaner named Tony Parker, he's very persistent in his cleaning methods and very thorough in all he cleans. I see him each time I'm here which is on a regular basis and he works extremely hard to keep the restaurant looking its best and takes pride in all he does. Very hardworking and always on time, very nice person in general. Thankyou Tony for keeping up the good work x

Went to bar and asked for a bottle of Prosecco and 3 glasses, all 3 were stained and one had lipstick on it. I pointed this out to the young lady staff member and was shocked to hear her say”what do you expect, this is Wetherspoon “. This is a dreadful attitude to have, needless to say we won’t be going again! !

I only gave this utter sh*hole 1 because Trip Advisor doesn't allow 0. Once again the useless ineptitude of the staff didn't fail to disappoint... if, that is, what you are after is utter disappointment, with filthy tables, empty food plates and stacks of dirty glasses everywhere. Needless to say, we walked in amd walked out. I can't even be bothered to elaborate more on the above, as clearly, no-one is listening.

Utterly awful experience. Every time we come here, the staff are rude, obnoxious, lazy, ignorant and more interested in chatting to each other in the entrance to the kitchen than doing such things as, clearing glasses (both from the tables and from the never ending smashathon at the end of the bar), serving customers (let alone actually knowing who was next!), or cleaning tables. This afternoon's visit was made particularly unpleasant by the sheer volume and outright aggressiveness of the male staff members towards each other and any member of the public who dared to question why there was only one person serving, whilst 4 more proceeded to break kore glasses than they cleaned and find it highly amusing! Sadly, it's no better when the 'management' are here, in fact, it seems to then just become a disorganised hive of people doing their best to look busy whilst doing absolutely nothing. We drink in many Wetherspoons, both within the county and further afield, and don't have this problem anywhere else. How can 1 pub consistently get it so very wrong? I have worked in hospitality and am pretty sure, given the whole Wetherspoons ethos, that absolutely nothing will be done to correct this. Sad really because, as our local Wetherpsoons, if we want the cheap drinks, this is the only option, and it used to be a nice place to come.

Full disclosure, I didn't want to go here in the first place due to their political stance, but we did. Food was as youd expect, drinks were recently price too but the whole night was marred by a frankly confusing exchange where staff accused us not once but twice of throwing up in a cup, even though it was the table next to us being unruly. We even had a very weird exchange where the waitress comes over and said that her and her colleagues felt it was best that our table was cut off, even though - having been a pub GM and the designated driver - there was absolutely no reason to. Upon asking what the reason was, we were again accused of throwing up in cups which is honestly such a bizarre accusation you'd hope the person saying it was 100% sure before they threw that out. Utterly wrong, utterly embarrassing and another marker why Wetherspoons has the bad reputation it does. Similar to many other reviews, will not be returning.

Slow slow service! Waited 15 minutes for a beer to be ordered and it wasn’t busy! They don’t appear to care. Beaten up furniture and dirty tables.

Went to this pub today for a meal with friends, the bar was busy, VERY understaffed, people queuing up for ages to get served. Staff not friendly, with a couldn’t care less attitude. Food was cooked and left under a light to go cold before it was taken out to customers. Staff standing to chat to each other whilst delivering food. So food going cold till they deigned to deliver it. Feel this place needs a new decent Manager who knows what they are doing, and motivating their staff to do a better proper job. Staff certainly need retraining in customer relations, and Manager also needs replacing if that’s the best service they can offer.

This is a fairly average Wetherspoons on Stevenage Old Town High Street. Have had a couple of meals here over the years and it is average, food is ok, beer is ok, prices were ok but are now going up. Plenty of parking out the front or rear in a small car park opposite. Clientele vary from the drunk and drugged to older folk reading the paper and everything in between. Have been to both better and worse Wetherspoons, would probably return for a cheap beer and meal.

Welcoming staff, fast service and really good food for the price. The breakfast menu has lots of choice. I had mushroom Benedict which was very tasty.

My husband and I like to treat ourselves to a breakfast on a Friday morning before starting work. Weatherspoon pubs are known as being cheap and cheerful so a little dubious of what the quality would be like. We were pleasantly surprised. The price was very reasonable, a varied range of choices on the menu, service was quick and most importantly the food was great. There were lots of clean tables with menu’s newspapers and even a Weatherspoons magazine (which was very interesting!) I would definitely recommend The Standing Order, in Stevenage Old Town for breakfast.

Been here many times with the ladies, up to 12 of us, only 7 on this visit 13th September, was surprised how empty it was, ordered food & drink no problem, 1st glass of wine was cloudy, told by staff that’s because it’s cold & out the pump 😏, had a few sips but left most of it. Ordered chicken burger, chicken was tough & overcooked, eventually when staff came to check all was ok I mentioned this but staff member replied with ( oh ), next mentioned it much later when table was being cleared, a staff member took it to kitchen, I was told they couldn’t do anything about it as I’d eaten to much ( of course I’d eaten the chips, I was hungry) see pics. Needless to say our ladies won’t be revisiting. We now know why the place was empty 🤨

Visited here several times during our stay in Stevenage. Excellent chose of drink at a very good price. Great menu at a very good price. Lovely place to sit in the sun and watch the world go by. Nice, friendly staff.

I haven’t been for a few years but it’s certainly gone down hill. Although cheap, the food was awful. Dry, cheap products. They were short of condiments and the tables weren’t being cleaned between customers. Considering we’re just out of a pandemic, this is pretty poor. This was a Saturday lunch time. On a plus side, the food did come out fairly fast.

Seems to get worse every time I come here! Tables dirty, staff seem to hate serving people and just no atmosphere whatsoever! Only come here because that’s where the group insist on meeting and they only come here because it’s cheap! The old saying “You get what you pay for” VERY relevant here

Was out for a friend's birthday and came here as they advertise closing at 12. We were there from just after 11 having been for a curry and had already been drinking there & yet yet trying to get another drink at 11.45 were told they were closed despite the fact they had just served a table with drinks and in some instances these people had doubled up on their drinks ... when talking to Sophie (manageress) she said that despite what time it says on the door and the fact they had just served others ... she could shut whenever she liked for the mental health of her staff .... Seriously .... trying to play that card in those circumstances when it was clear she just wanted to clear the pub .... Don't advertise 12 if you want to shut earlier, and if it affects you or your staffs mental health serving for another 15 minutes, then maybe you should consider a change of job.

Well laid out and tables distanced and stations to write down trace and tack details too :) Food was delicious and would recommend breakfasts definitely!! Staff were very polite and the different COVID adapted ordering systems were very efficient indeed :)

What atmosphere? What service ? Came here for breakfast. Sat at filthy table, still with bits of crisps on from the night before. Staff around but no-one bothered to serve us. Waited 15 mins, got fed up and left.

Looks ok from the outside but as you enter you notice it needs a refurb seriously.Sat round the corner as you come In, seating was basic, tables were grubby, ketchup stain up the wall etc.Ordered from the app, service was quick, good value, no qualms with the drink, toilets are upstairs, they themselves are fine but the way up needs a lick of paint.

Wetherspoons is what it is - good food at very good prices. What makes this particular branch special is the staff. In particular Zac who is so polite, helpful and knowledgable of the extensive menu. He is a real asset to the company. Well done...

I went to pay for our family order with a £50.00 note and was refused, saying “sorry, we don’t except £50.00 notes.” As far as I was aware from working in a retail background, as long as the English money has the queen of England on it, it would be excepted in any establishment excepting payment. The food is generally always ok when we visit here. However the staff attitude is always disappointing and unhelpful to say the least. Not a great visit.

Ordered fish ,chips and peas on fish Friday menu at about 2 pm after the lunch time rush. Was very disappointed ,fish so overcooked, batter so hard, about ten peas on plate. Complained to girl at bar who was snappy with me. Meal replaced but fish was just as bad, won't be back.

This is a very large pub & restaurant in Old Stevenage. We arrived for lunch as a group of 5 and there was plenty of seating thankfully as we hadn’t booked. The staff are really polite and friendly and the food is served really quickly.

Rather scruffy, tables not cleared or wiped. Waitress forgot steak knife and salad and had to be reminded and brought small fork instead of proper size. Had to search for mustard to find a pot. Steak good.

Attended weatherspoons today with friends. When we arrived we found out today the ordering app didnt work. We then found out when trying to order food that the kitchen was closed due to lack of electricity. There was no signs anywhere telling us this and whole point was to come to eat food. Staff didn't seem to care and felt like talking to them was like getting blood out of a stone.. Very disappointed with the staffs attitudes and the managers lack of customer service as I would imagine it is up to them to make decisions informing their customers when there is anything wrong.

Ordered from the app, 2 Pepsis arrive first pretty quick, one is from a nearly empty machine so tastes more like water. Waited 40 minutes for the meal, husband had to go down and ask when it would arrive and get a replacement drink as we hadn't had anyone come towards us while we waited. Seemed as if only one waitress was working the while time we were there. I ordered gammon with eggs, eggs were cold and over cooked. Gammon was tough and overcooked, could barely get through it with a steak knife and tasted as if someone had spilt a box of salt on it (I know gammon is normally quite salty, this was more than it should have been). Grilled mushroom was soggy and cold, grilled tomato was burned on the outside and cold inside. I couldn't finish the meal, left most it.

Found our first Wetherspoon establishment in Inverness a few weeks ago, so tend to find them in other places. Food plentiful and tasty although beer selections differ from location to location. Staff in Standing Orders could do with a wee brush up in customer service, like just smile a bit,

If you want to spend time with ur family or friends with few drinks and food.. This is best place in Stevenage. Customer service is good. Drinks are cheap. On weekends it will be a busy place at night. Clean toilets and lots of seats available inside and outside.

Dropped in for lunch. Being young and oh so modern, I downloaded the Wetherspoon's App and ordered and paid for our meals: two drinks, an All Day Breakfast and a Tikka Masala.

I was in here 22/4 and received some homophobic abuse. I informed one of the staff (Mia Tyrell) and she swiftly went round the whole pub trying to identify the guy, kept reassuring me that I was safe and even offered me a drink to say sorry.

Busy for a Saturday which is always nice to see, ordered two burgers and told 20 minute wait which is okay as we were enjoying each other’s company. Always suspicious however when the food comes out within ten minutes.

Been in this weather spoons many many times never had a problem but this morning over me changing something on my boyfriend's food was looked and spoken to like dirt then a waitress that bought our food over when I tried to explain the problem she also spoke to me like dirt and walked away whilst I was still trying to explain a lovely lady who was very good at her job came and said sorry got the manager who to me looked like he was just Gona take there word for it my boyfriend is mixed race and he thinks it could be cause of racsim I'm so upset and we just had to walk out on the way out I told the girl about her customer services and she just stood there smerking at me disgusted and really upset !!!!!

we took advantage of the garden to have lunch in the open air. This is a decent wetherspoons pub with the usual food menu options. Good choice of beers at great prices. Service was good and both food and beer were very nice.

Visited Wetherspoons this morning for breakfast, the one we usually go to in Hatfield is always good but unfortunately at the standing order my breakfast was cold as was my husbands. I sent mine back and it quickly was replaced by the same breakfast (eggs included) which had been microwaved!i said to the waitress I was not happy about this as cooked eggs cannot be microwaved! Asked for a new one very politely but as the waitress walked away she swore under her breath but myself and other customers heard. Very disappointing all round and will not be returning to this Wetherspoons.

Triple Chicken Feast - hard Chicken breast (reheated?), spicy chicken wings (good), southern-fried chicken strips (good), BBQ sauce (good), coleslaw (showed signs of being left out), chips (OK), a char-grilled mini corn-on-the-cob (stone cold)

Popped in here for a breakfast as the price is very reasonable. The breakfast turned up in good time, unfortunately it was not even warm never mind hot. Fair play the waitress came over and asked me if everything was ok. I told her the reason why I was not eating it. She did offer to get me another, but as I was pushed for time I declined. I ask another party of three how there’s was and they said the same thing, cold. I won’t be going back. I would rather spend the extra money on something hot.

I'm Italian and I was here in Stevenage to visit my brother. menù is like the other Wetherspoon. Food was in average, a lot of choice of beers and cider and that's was I want to find in a pub. Price is cheap

Food good for price. Drink cheap good meal or. Don't criticise you only get whst you pay for. Never dissatisfied with drink. Very rarely food. The special meal nights are exceptional value. When on a budget what more could you ask for.

Took an age to get served despite the bar being empty - all the staff were talking at one end of the bar. The bar itself was not up tp the chains usual standards - the floors were more than tacky - they were overly sticky and the tables were disgusting. When we were finally served the service was poor and our Scottish money was refused.

It is a pretty typical Wetherspoons pub, being a large open space with cheap food and beer. The service was good, and the beer excellent. As always, the menu was the standard one across the chain, and being Wednesday it was chicken night. No surprises here, but it is a safe bet if you are in an unfamiliar town.

Popped in here with my husband for a meal on a Tuesday evening. We had the special steak night options which includes a drink, I had the sirloin steak and my husband had the mixed grill both were absolutely lovely,very nice atmosphere and really clean, staff were very friendly and efficient. Will definitely be going back.

Located around a 20 minute walk from Stevenage train station, The Standing Order is a decent enough pub with a nice enough interior with cheap drinks. Nothing about this place is stunning but its a good place if you are looking for somewhere low cost.

Decent spoons - highly recommend this spoons - if it's spoons you're after, you've definitely found it here. 10/10 would spoons again at the standing order.

Against my better judgement 3 weeks ago popped in with family for Bite to eat and drink on Saturday lunchtime . Serveral items on the menu unobtainable despite ordering on their app. Condiments including sauces filthy bottles , little attention paid to mess on the floor under the tables. Paid on the app and left food disgusting house beer warm and served in filthy glass . There are several better establishments in Stevenage old town. There is a marked decline in standards worse than previous visit

Food good and cheap. However every table we looked at had between 1 and 3 pieces of chewing gum stuck underneath!!! Yukk!! Really put me off. Such a shame. Please sort this out.

Cannot be beaten for simple, good quality pub grub and an excellent selection of beers and wines at sensible prices.

We visit this pub on a regular basis but have always sat at the front of the pub, especially in the winter when the lovely fire is burning. Always thought that this pub being in the Olld Town was something special. Well, after visiting Lister Hospital in June 2018 for an appointment, being late afternoon, couldn’t decide whether to have pie and mash or something to eat at The Standing Order. Well we both decided on the pub choice, it was a very hot day, didn’t want to sit outside so we sat in one of the booths, closest one to the bar. My husband ordered our meal and a coffee each and we sat there waiting for our meal. On looking down at the seating it was covered in ground in food, grease etc etc. bearing in mind I was wearing white trousers at the time. I couldn’t eat my meal because of the condition of the seats, so we left. When I got home I complained to John Hutson at Head Office who then passed it to Nicola Eyres, Customer Services who then passed it on to Bradley P1031 at The Standing Order. I received from Bradley a very nice letter, apologising for the condition of the upholstery and if I sent him my address etc he would reimburse myself and my husband a free meal. I sent him the details but did not hear anything. I telephoned him after the Cup Final and he said I haven’t forgotten you, still waiting three weeks later. I know the meals are cheap, but I feel that it’s the principle of the matter.

We visited Old Stevenage by bus. What a lovely main street. The Wetherspoons Pub drew us in as the exterier of the building was so pretty. There was plenty of shaded outside space to sit especially as it was a very hot day. Lunch was Fish and Chips as it was Friday. Delicious.

We only stopped for a very quick latte, to warm up on a typical summer’s day! The new regime of using the self-service machine clearly saves staff time and improves profitability, but the coffee still tasted awful! Half the price of the dreaded Starbucks, but not worth saving the money for.

This is a very busy place on a Saturday and Sunday lunch time, if you wish to have a meal, its advisable to book, the food is good, you order your food at the bar and pay, then its brought to your table.

Decent little pub to take friends to. I've been in here at weekends usually, but it's always a good call for a nice gin & tonic.

Fantastic price for a standard breakfast but the meal was hardly cooked. The tomato was freezing cold and the rest was only warm and not very tasty. The egg was the tiniest I have seen in a long time. There were no sweeteners available in the whole pub (so I was told). I suppose it wasn't too bad for the price though. No fixed slice available, either!! Come on, Tim Martin you are my Brexit hero, you can do better. Why don't you charge an extra pound and use decent ingredients?

Cheap and cheerful , meal was actually really nice tbh! And for the money we certainly couldn’t complain!

The meal was cold, they forgot the vegetables. There was a very big difference between the photo and meal but I'm not Michael Douglas and not started shooting... The fork and knife was VERY dirty. I asked for a change and got a much more cleaner but it was still dirty. Huge problem of hygiene. The was very friendly.

We've been to many Wetherspoons pubs and this is only just average. Nobody seems to be clearing used plates from tables so the impression is a bit scruffy. I had a steak and kidney pudding which did not have much meat and was overcooked.

Visited here this morning for breakfast, what a mistake!!

First time visiting here and initial impression was good. Ordered an adult meal and child’s chicken breast burger meal. Asked for the fruit pack that comes with the children’s meal but told they had run out! When the meal came out it was on the tiniest plate with the food right on the edge and told “sorry we’ve run out of children’s plates”, so I suggested putting it on an adults plate which she agreed and went and changed. Second time the meal came then realised it was the chicken breast but with no burger bun, so again mentioned this.

Being a Wetherspoons there are few surprises here but this pub in Old Stevenage is head and shoulders over the one in the main town. Worth the walk as you actually get hot food here and service is friendly and quick. Worth a stop.

We popped in here for a few drinks after a lovely meal near bye. Cheap rounds and pleasant sitting outside in the lovely sun which made an appearance. Vast selection of drinks and ales, and generally staff are competent. Although serving bottles of tonic water that where hot (not luke warm) is a big no no and when questioning this, it seemed to be acceptable. As I say some staff where great and on the ball, but others seem to be in a world of their own and fixated on preening themselves and getting the cash across the bar.

Called in for a quick pint, normal good range of beer, friendly staff and plenty of room.

Often pop in to catch up with friends after work for one drink. It's cheap, fairly clean but always busy. It's a whetherspoons pub, so most people know what to expect, no music, sports channels etc. Toilets always appear dirty or do not flush though

Reasonably priced food and drink several menu Items frequently unavailable. The poor organisation let's this establishment down. Better run and good customer focused in the old town

Good points first - the food and drink prices are very reasonable. Food deals which include a drink are excellent. I had a really lovely burger with added pastrami which came with lovely fries, onion rings etc etc., plus a glass of wine all at less than £8 - brilliant. Food was fast to arrive and very very nicely cooked. Couldn't fault it. Not so good - terrible disorganised bar - no queueing system when busy so its a case of who waves or shouts loudest and reliant on the bar staff even noticing you to be able to get served. Food orders have to be placed at the bar so it's just a question of if you can get noticed and get someone to take your order. The last time we went there it wasn't hugely busy but it took me a full 10 mins to catch the attention of a member of bar staff - hopeless system. When it's really busy it's a real fight to catch their eye even if waving a £20 note in their faces. Customers get served without any order so some get served quick if their face fits and others wait and wait and wait. Might be better if food orders could be taken at a different till. Having said that, once the order was placed the food arrived quickly. They have an app which you could download to order from your table - couldn't get it to work as the wifi kept dropping!Such a shame - the location is good, the décor and garden are good, the food is good and the drinks reasonably priced but the service is SO disorganised!

Popped in for "Tuesday The Steak club " menu. Two steak dinners and drink included, all for £13.80 or so, couldn't grumble, Pity John Smiths was finished or off tap, Otherwise all fine.

Food is nice and staff are friendly beer is always cold and hits the spot all the time .Will always go here and bring more people the experience the joys of the standing order
