The food was reasonable, the staff very friendly although not that attentive. Disappointed with vegetarian options very limited and then two of them were unavailable. We were two couples, grandparents and grandchildren, eating before a show. The food no better than ‘pub-grub’, chicken burger very dry, other food passable, drinks ordinary. Would possibly go again, if going to a show, but their are many other eateries within walking distance or short drive, so it would be dependant on the weather. We booked and were surprised how few people were in there, further: trying to book a table is very difficult, so I certainly would not bother going through that drama again.

We have pre-booked a pre-show meal quite a few times now and always find the food very good, with friendly service in a nice surrounding. A couple of things we wanted off the menu this time were unavailable but what we ordered didn't disappoint and will certainly book again when we are going to a show here

We had an excellent meal here pre-pantomime and overall thought it was excellent. The staff we're very friendly and our meals we're all good. Good choice of starters / mains / desserts. Restaurant was fairly busy and there was also a wedding function going on but they we're kept separate which was nice. We would definitely visit again before a show.

Been tempted to visit Pi Bistro for ages, thought my wife and myself would try it today. On arrival the place was full of females (plus 3 males including myself) they were mostly seniors apart from three middle aged ladies having coffee. Had to order at the counter, waitress who wasn't fully informed of the menu/computer had to ask the kitchen staff where my selected items where on the list !!! Eventually, the problem was sorted, meals were OK, small portions which was reflected on the price paid and the members of staff were friendly throughout our visit.

We visited Pi Bistro for the first time and it is very convenient for a pre show dinner. The staff were all very pleasant, helpful and provided a good level of friendly service. Our order was promptly taken and two pints of chilled lager arrived speedily. Our starters of vegetable soup and, in particular, the Chilli and Lime prawns were very good. The main courses of a vegetable cannelloni - attractively presented and tasty - and the gammon and chips not quite so with undercooked soggy chips which should have been obvious to the chef. The menu is unadventurous and could perhaps include some dishes that could be expected in the French equivalent. The bistro itself is a pleasant area but could do with some interesting touches to differentiate it from an upmarket cafe. The tribute band we went to see was outstandingly good as was the theatre itself with a full house. We are very likely to return to the theatre based on the show and would certainly give the Bistro another try as tighter quality control could certainly have turned my rating to four stars.

I thought it would be a good opportunity to dine before a show with my partner and daughter. A complete disappointment. The food was appalling, the service was poor and the environment was like a basic canteen. My chicken was pink with blood and when I sent it back I was told it was a vein. I had to battle with the supervisor for a refund on the chicken. Another table walked out returning all their meals. A real let down and an experience I will not be repeating. Such a shame as it is a lovely theatre.

Went for a pre-show meal on Saturday night. Service was quick and friendly, and the food was lovely.Recommend the fish cakes, and had a lovely cheesecake for dessert. Good selection of wines and beers. The setting is more cafeteria than restaurant, but it's extremely convenient.

Ate there last night, awful does not cover it. Our very first time of eating there, never again. Had to send meals back, cold chips, over cooked burger, dried out lasagne and replacements were no better. Staff were great.

Had a lovely meal prior to watching a show at Gordon Craig theatre last night. Choice was good, service quick , food was ok . Large portions for starter, glad we shared the olives. Wine was reasonably priced as was desert . Well worth the visit , quite enjoyable.

This is the first time I’ve eaten at the Leisure Centre for years, certainly since it was renamed Pi and moved away from the bar and I was less than impressed. I chose cod and chips which at least was thankfully skinned but the fish itself was a poor specimen and I didn’t finish it. My wife had the veggie burger which was a tasteless portion of something akin to bubble and squeak in breadcrumbs. Dessert of chocolate “gateau” with ice cream was pitiful, a thin slice of oversweet cake which was not worth the cost of £4.50 (there were only two options by the way). Our young waitress was friendly and helpful but the quality of the choices and food itself left something to be desired I’m sad to say.

We booked a pre show table for 18.15 for a 19.45 show. We were shown promptly to a table of our choice and gave our drink order almost immediately. My husband ordered the soup of the day which came out in good time. The soup was hot, tasty and homemade. Both main meals were of a reasonable size and also very delicious, beef chilli and cannelloni, were also brought to us in good time. A dessert board was brought to us with a choice of two desserts (cheesecake or chocolate fudge cake) with a choice of either different flavoured ice creams or pouring cream. We both chose the chocolate fudge cake with cream which was very nice. My husband then enjoyed a cappuccino. Even before our twenty percent discount for being Applause members, the bill was a very good price considering we had ordered a two course meal, three course meal, drinks and coffee. We left the Bistro in good time for our show with a good twenty minutes to spare. A most enjoyable meal with very friendly and helpful staff. Will definitely be booking a pre show meal again in the future.

These meals were put on for exhibitors at an event. There were 5 sittings of 40 people. The food, while simple, was excellent in quality for the price charged and the service could not have been bettered - food arrived almost as soon as one was seated. Overall this worked exceedingly well for us and we will assuredly be doing the same thing next time.

Went here for a murder, mystery event and although the event was enjoyable it was seriously let down by the food. I had previously been warned but understood that they had recently had a new chef, if so he was obviously as bad as the last one. The pork loin was cold and very fatty, the boiled potatoes were undercooked and like bullets. When I mentioned this to the waitress she said 'oh okay' as she rushed me off pay for another bottle of wine. The other main course option of goats cheese and onion tartlet was very blanned. Won't be rushing to go back

We booked the special valentines offer before the show. The dining area is horrid, it feels a bit like a leisure centre room. The service was ok, but the food was terrible. My husband ordered lamb shank which was too tough to eat, I ordered salmon which was served like a school dinner with dry boiled veg.

We booked the Peter Pan pantomime months ago and decided to have a pre-show meal for convenience after my wife was sent an email special 3 course offer (2 adults + 2 kids for £50) – we were the only diners on a busy night (sounds ominous)

This review is NOT for the theatre - they do some fantastic shows. The restaurant however, is somewhere I cannot recommend. The food is ok, menu pretty simple. But the service is dire !!! The staff have no idea what they are doing ! We were lucky we got the right order. Left as soon as possible !

Have been to TGI’s many times in the past but not for a number of years. Was shocked when I saw the price of the dishes on the menu, very expensive compared to other restaurants. Was even more shocked when the dishes arrived & saw the portion sizes. They certainly do not justify the prices! Service - apart from being shown to our seat & delivered food, there wasn’t any. Food - was in all honesty terrible. Luke warm & lacked any real flavour. To top it all off my son was sick later that evening so I now question if his chicken was actually cooked!! Perhaps someone from TGI’s should take a moment to read the reviews as they are not good. I will never be returning.
