Stopped here after going to Pendennis castle. Had not read anything about it, but is was a great choice for Sunday Roast. Fast friendly service. Large portions and more vegetables than we could eat. It was well seasoned and presented nicely.

Went into pub and asked if they did food. The barman said “ erm yes I think so” he then advised the food would be cooked in a van parked outside, Really ! Well as you aren’t sure if you did food I went to the fox and hounds a few miles up the road and what a totally different reception and excellent food so consequently I won’t ever be visiting your pub again. Your loss mr I’m not sure if we actually do food.

Haven't been in the Stag for a while as the food and service used to be somewhat lacking, but now it under new ownership and wow what a difference. The food is amazing and far surpasses your normal pub fare. Been in a few times with friends and solo and quite honestly this is some of the best food in the area. Simple menu but this to me speaks volumes as you only need to do a few things well, and it's not just done well it's 5 star. All local produce, the beer is literally rolled up the hill from the local brewery, and kitchen ingredients all locally sourced. Very excited to be working my way through the menu over the coming months, and have already decided what I am having on my next visit, big thumbs up from me.

Went in the Stag Hunt to kill half hour while a couple looked at the cottage we had for sale. Been here before, though when it was under old management, and had a couple of meals. Very nice, cosy, and inspiring. Under new management now, though still that same charisma, and met the new owners. Lovely couple, I'm a bit of a chatterbox, but they were accommodative and really nice to chat to. Had a look at the menu and it was good. I'm a vegan, and there were good options for me, and everyone else, have yet to try it but I'm sure it's satisfying. Good luck guys, as "Arnie" would say, " I'll be back. "

The food in this pub is nice, but pricey compared to other eateries in the area. We went here twice whilst on holiday. On the Saturday, many of the dishes on the menu were sold out and meals coming out were really slow. The menu isn’t vast, but there are also a few specials available unless those are sold out too. To be fair, the staff member realised that things weren’t perhaps going exactly to plan and apologised with some complimentary nibbles whilst we waited. It’s a friendly pub, so we went back mid week, and it was much better and the food was very nice. My only feedback as a visitor would be that I am not sure whether this pub is trying to be a local drinkers pub, or an eatery. The food is good but expensive, and I am not sure that people going out for a meal at these prices want to sit where there is a huge television screen. If there is a way to make a dining area for the evening, this might attract more diners to make this a more pleasant environment for a meal out. Having said that, I would recommend visiting here for a meal and drink. You will feel welcomed .

Having driven past this pub literally hundreds of times over 40 years, we decided to remedy that situation, and were really glad we did. A traditional village inn built on different levels, friendly service and locals, and great beer brewed in the village. Clean and tidy and clearly well-run. We were here for drinks only so didn't check out the menu, but food which was being served to other guests looked delicious. We will certainly return.

I am of an age whereby I have visited many pubs and restaurants for Sunday lunch. We thought the Stag Hunt was a good choice as we liked the look of it by passing by. Wrong. We ordered the roast beef. We were presented with stringy beef, undercooked roast potatoes and parsnips along with mushy vegetables all of which was barely warm. So think again before a visit.

This is an unassuming roadside Inn, on a busy road through Ponsanooth village. But, don't be mislead, this Inn has an Eastern twist, the most faboulus Indian dining experience. Freshly prepared on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday's. Sunday's become a traditional British roast. But, back to the Indian food, just the best, deconstructed lamb samosas, lamb with star anise and coconut, chicken in a piquant flavorsome creamy sauce, fish and vegetable dishes and much more. Don't drive past, stop and enjoy.

My wife and I visit The Stag at least twice a month for a curry and it is always such a treat! I like to think that I am a bit of a curry connoisseur. Over the last 20 years or so I have sampled hundreds of curries from all over the country, from the famous "Balti Mile" of Birmingham, from the East End of London, and curries from across the provincial cities and towns of both England and Scotland. Therefore, it might seem surprising that the very best curries I have ever had have been in the quiet Cornish village of Ponsanooth!Usha's curries are consistently excellent. This is no ordinary curry, they are homemade and thus the flavours are unique and somewhat addictive (hence our repeated visits)! Usha is always happy to accommodate requests for extra heat and/or chilis. Always beautifully presented each curry comes with a side of curried vegetables, a naan bread, mini poppadoms and rice. The beer is jolly nice too!I can certainly recommend a trip out to The Stag!

This isn't just a one off review of one night - it comes from being lucky enough to be a local in this fabulous village. I originate from Southampton, have lived in London, Exeter, Sydney -and have lived here, in Ponsanooth, for 14 years. The Indian food that Usha cooks has been, is, just the most authentic and delicious food that I have eaten in Cornwall. I have been to so many special occasions, parties, street food nights etc here at The Stag that I almost forget that this special place is literally on my doorstep. This evening I had the privilege of speaking with the chef about an upcoming birthday party - and the menu has been bespoke designed for our needs. And that means that as well as the people who can't eat wheat, nuts, dairy etc - Usha will always provide for me a vegan meal which is carefully thought through, and doesn't feel like an afterthought. I am so lucky that I live so close by - but if you don't - this is really a place to seek out if you want absolutely amazing, home cooked, authentic Indian food - in Cornwall

They do a fabulous curry menu, plus a special board, so there is a variety for all to choose from. The curries that we had were delicious and fresh. The steak that my partner had was also delicious and the chips were cooked to perfection. The stick toffee pudding was also awesome! We will be back again! Thank you!

We have just had supper at this very lovely country pub. It would be easy to drive past as its on quite a busy road between Falmouth and Redruth, but that would be a mistake! Stop and enjoy! I had a delicious rump steak, with a very lovely peppercorn and brandy sauce. Sometimes this sauce can be a bit cloying..not at the Stag..a really light touch. my daughter had the 'ansome' burger..she said that it was very good ( and she knows her burgers), my husband had the gammon steak..again, to be recommended. I have eaten from the curry menu before and can definitely recommend that..If you like well cooked, straight forward tasty, good value food, served in a friendly country pub then the Stag is the place for you!

After an initial visit to check out this little country pub a couple of weeks ago, we promised ourselves a return visit to try out the menu and we were not disappointed. There is a regular pub-type menu (worth a try at another visit), which if the 'curry menu' is anything to go by, promises to be good. Being regular visitors of various Indian restaurants, we know the type of curry we like; this surpassed many 'specialist' eating places as it was really delicious and fresh. My husband had a lamb curry and I had chicken and coconut. The portions were perfect and were accompanied by a small naan bread plus a few mini poppadoms as well as the rice. We're already planning a return visit and are recommending the Inn to friends. My husband is also a bit of an ale fan and he really enjoyed his pints! A really friendly welcome, thank you very much!

Friendly landlord, and his wife cooks authentic curry. An interesting combination. This pub is on a main road and too many people drive past and fail to make the effort to stop. I failed for months, and regret it.

A local pub in a great area. I would recommend that you book ahead. it is a rural location and there didn't seem to be anywhere else close by to try if they are full. The pub has 2 menus on the go - a regular pub menu and a surprise speciality curry/indian dishes cooked by the landlady (who herself if from this part of the world). Delicious. Plenty of parking and local ales. We went along on a Thursday and there was a group of local musicians having a bit of a jam upstairs. great atmosphere

What a gem! We had no idea where to go for lunch but chose the shed; a great choice! The steak was so good and the sole cooked to perfection. Great wine, appetisers and dessert to boot. Fantastic value and the service was great Thank you so much.

The staff were friendly, the service was prompt, the food was good. It's about as good as you could hope for from a family friendly restaurant at the price that it is.

Absolutely wonderful visit. The cream tea was the best I think I’ve ever had. Warm scones, huge pot of cream and delicious jam, must be homemade. The tea was piping hot and came with an additional tea bag should you like it strong.
