Duke Street Cafe in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

There’s a big difference between an establishment being dog tolerant and one that’s truly dog friendly and Duke Street Cafe is definitely the latter. So welcoming for dogs and humans, lovely coffee and kind staff. Thank you ❤️

Our group had two babies and they couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. For a small cafe it is well-equipped with high chairs and a perfect baby change facility. There was a lovely selection of delicious cakes and decadent drinks.

Excellent place to stop and try. Staff were very friendly and helpful, we only had drinks this time but the food when we previously visited was Exceptional.

Wife and I and granddaughter spotted the Duke Street after a morning walk and called in for lunch and each had a ciabbatta meal, all beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. Service was prompt and friendly and we will definitely be back

This place sells quality food & drink, the best coffee & cakes around this part of Cornwall. The breakfast is excellent quality & cooked to perfection. We go out of our way to enjoy this place. The staff are friendly & efficient. We're already looking forward to the next visit.

Very delicious and cute little spot! Dog friendly too, always a plus :) I had the Turkish eggs which were 11/10. Highly recommend. My aunt and uncle had the full Cornish breakfast and both very much enjoyed.

We just had coffee and cake at this lovely little cafe, but would like to come back for more. The staff are especially welcoming and professional.

What a lovely cafe this is. Had breakfast here this morning and it was great. Definitely worthy of a 5 star review. The food was perfect, the atmosphere was lovely too. I think we were served by a young lady called Jessica and she was honestly an asset to this place. Her smile, infectious. Her attitude, second to none. And with the perfect amount of attentiveness! Utterly disappointed in myself I had no cash to leave as a tip for her! I hope Jessica is reminded and recognised for just how great she is. Would most definitely recommend!

Had breakfast here this morning - fantastic! Poached eggs, avocado, smoked salmon and toast. And the BEST coffee! Great service too! And they let me use their internet connection for a work meeting.... Strongly recommended!!

Isn’t it just lovely when you find a cafe that has everything..: great coffee, super reasonable and delicious food menu, just look at those cakes… and the staff are welcoming, knowledgeable and prompt. They cater for all allergies, intolerances and have veg alternatives.. If you happen to be strolling around Newlyn, pop on in for breakfast, lunch, or just tea and cake. Perfect…. 😊✨

Just arrived in Newlyn to have a look around. Parked the car in a short stay car park. Fancied a coffee before taking a quick look around the town. The cafe is adjacent. After looking around the town which didn't take long we decided to have lunch at the cafe, this time outside but under cover, which was just as well as it had just started to rain 🌧. We enjoyed our meal. They have a good selection of teas and coffee.

Hands down best cafe we have been to in Cornwall, fantastic food & service cant wait to go back!!

Called in for a quick bite to eat on a wet and windy lunchtime. The smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich was delicious, generously filled with good quality salmon, and served with an interesting combination of side salad. Washed down with a pot of tea. Friendly and efficient service. I sat on the covered and heated outside terrace which is a lovely option if you like to eat al-fresco Good value for money, not cheap but fairly priced for what is on offer

The food is lovely at this cafe. We all enjoyed our breakfasts and we especially liked the delicious vegetarian sausages. The staff can’t do enough for you. I can highly recommend this cafe for food and drink. If you need to park there is a pay and display right outside.

Disappointing. Cake inedible and coffee tepid. Not the end of the world but it’s £8 I will never see again. Weird vibe there too.

A very good little cafe which I highly recommend. Good menu choice, very attentive staff, followed by excellent food delivered surprisingly fast. In laws had a sea food platter, which was excellent by all accounts. I had the calimari, fresh and tasty and my wife had a salad of some sorts serves on a flat bread. Again very tasty I was told. So overall a very good restaurant, and a big well done by all the staff, well deserved!

Popped in for morning coffee and cake whilst visiting the area. Had the best flat white I’d had in a long time and the freshest cakes. Very good value, particularly the cakes which were nice big slices. Lovely friendly staff all very efficient and helpful.

Four of us went for lunch. Three of us had excellent crab sandwiches on beautiful granary bread. The fourth member of our party had steak and chips. All the food was excellent and the staff are so friendly and efficient. We can’t wait to go back. Thank you.

I had a great vegan plate at breakfast. The sausages were flavorful and great texture. The toast was warm and soft with generous creamy butter. There were lots more on the plate including beans, tomatoes, mushrooms, hash browns. The chai latte was delightful.

We shared a lovely seafood platter. Really fresh & tasty. Thick slices of salmon, fresh prawns & crab with a lovely couscous salad. The service was amazing, so friendly & welcoming. Our dog Mable was completely spoilt with biscuits & fuss. Would recommend.

Outstanding breakfast and brilliant service! We ordered the full english and vegetarian breakfast, plus two kids breakfast (thankfully they can pick & mix! 😂). Huge portions, delicious high quality ingredients and fast & friendly service. Even the toilet was lovely 😂You will not be disappointed! I can’t wait to come back to try the cakes & scones.

We took our friends here for an afternoon cup of tea and a cake, having found this café whilst visiting with relatives. On our first visit, we had sandwiches which were superb and extremely tasty, hence the reason we decided to take her friends here, because they were visiting us. Cannot recommend this café highly enough. The sandwiches are fresh with superb salads on the side, and the cakes are all made freshly and are extremely tasty. The service is always extremely friendly, and quick! This is a true gem in. Salubrious and one not to miss out on.

Had a delicious lunch here, we sat on an outside table (under cover, which was useful as it was raining!). Food was lovely, service was excellent. Will come again next time I'm in the area!

We ordered Hoisin beef on flat bread The flat bread must have been stale As it was cooked and not burnt but was rock hard and we couldn’t get a knife through it to cut it .it was so brittle it shot across the cafe We asked discreetly a member of staff to come over to our table and mentioned the problem ..to be asked -“would we like a steak knife to cut the bread!! “ We told her that was not acceptable -she took the food away to get another meal prepared The second meal came out ..with soft flat bread -that was not stale however we were given the cold meat contents to share between us on the next so call called fresh meal -which was cold A staff member asked us if the second meal was ok -we stated the above We went to pay and were given the two drinks that we ordered free ..however I would like to state that there was nothing wrong with the drinks ! We were told to pay full price for the both meals each No sorry or mention of the meal being cold and unsatisfactory I asked if the chef had been changed as we have been here many times before -she stated that he has not left . So very dissatisfied and disappointed that no acknowledgment was made and tht we were expected to pay for a substandard meal We would rather have have full price for the perfect dink and be told we would have a discount t on the meal -so basically they dismissed the problem 😡

Left my bag there. They kindly promptly posted it to me, and even checked up that I had received it. Great customer care. We had breakfast on two mornings and they were excellent. Friendly efficient staff. Wish I lived nearer !!!!! 😁

A stunning café in the heart of Newlyn. We had lovely breakfast, that was cooked to perfection. The Staff were friendly and helpful. The café is dog friendly too, which is always a bonus for us. Highly recommended.

Delightful place. Found by accident, stopped for coffee and cake. Lemon Drizzle cake was lush, the lunches looked delicious.

Awesome food , great service and just perfect

Very friendly team. Both the coffee and in particular the big slice of carrot cake were delicious. My wife had the best scone she ever had with strawberry jam and clotted cream. Can highly recommend the Duke Street Cafe.

Such a friendly welcoming atmosphere for lunch out. Took our dogs and made welcome. We had the seafood platter with fries and every mouthful was perfection. Fabulous coffee too

Popped by here for a breakfast prior to our departure from Cornwall. Great last bite before going back up north, the vegetarian breakfast was well and complimented by great coffee. Will be popping in again if we are back in the area. Thanks to all.

Brilliant Cafe, lovely atmosphere with indoor and outdoor seating. Great selection of food. Gets busy (another sign that it’s one of the best) but totally worth it!

My partner had the lightly dusted calamari and she said it was the best she ever had in England (shes Croatian but lived her 8 years). I had the steak topped chips and i absolutely inhaled it, incredible. We ordered the pistachio cake and brownie. Both delicious and the staff were really nice. Not too long to wait. Parking directly outside, meter charge.

Staff were friendly, it is always busy with locals and visitors. It is not a cheap greasy spoon establishment. Probably a little over priced but ok.

Stopped off here for a coffee which was spot on. Very pleasant and welcoming staff. I didn't eat but I'll bet the food is decent, the cakes looked lovely.

Mooch on the promenade with impromptu lunch thrown in. Ended up here, wife claimed “it’s good” she was correct again….. Seafood Stew with Cornish Helles, top choice. Hey you can’t have anything but fish in Newlyn. Great grub, no worries.

We called in here on the off chance for a late breakfast. We had a couple of sausage and bacon baps and they were SPOT ON! Great coffee too.

I went to Duke Street Cafe for a solo lunch before a movie at Newlyn Filmhouse. I had the caesar salad and some fries, everything was delicious. The music was great and so was the service. Thank you!

Popped in for lunch while staying in the area. Gluten free options are no problem, pretty much everything on the menu (apart from the breaded items) can be made to suit. I had the crab sandwich which came with a fabulous side salad including everything...

Second time coming in and it is still fantastic! The doughnuts are just delightful , probably the best I’ve had… Orange polenta is so good and moist and lovely. All cooked and served by a fantastic friendly and very helpful team. We’re still eating whilst writing this 🤩👏🏼

Visited for lunch while in the area and would definitely recommend. The crab open sandwich was delicious and well worth the drive from where we were staying.

Lovely little place and very welcoming and friendly

Very sorry for the relatively low scores, I had been expecting better. Having made a detour to get to this café (my choice), we arrived before 3 pm and there was nothing to eat but cake, take it or leave it. We were hoping for a late lunch. Sadly, it was too late for warm food or even a sandwich. It felt as if we had intruded on their end of day tidying up routine. It was a huge contrast to the previous day where (on arriving much later in the day and much nearer to closing time) the staff at The Cabin on Perranuthnoe Beach pulled out the stops after what appeared to have been a very busy day. I have been here once before and quite enjoyed the experience, hence the stars. Not this time, the cake was okay and the coffee would have been excellent if it had been a bit warmer.
