Based upon previous visits which were very good. Unfortunatly since being taken over, this place has gone down hill. No beer (supposably still negotiating with suppliers after 3 weeks in), no pino, badly unorganised, and food now very average. Also dog sitting on owners lap at bar....very unhygenic, other dogs spralled across walk areas to trip up waitresses and extremely noisy.....not the place for a nice date night with the wife anymore. Staff were very good and worked with what they had well. Do they know who there target customer is? Closer to Weatherspoons than a decent meal out.

My partner called up mid Saturday afternoon, and booked a table for the 2 of us, on Valentines weekend (spur of the moment thing) and managed to get a table. We had been meaning to call in and have a meal/drink for a while having only recently moved to the area (approx 18 months ago.) The atmosphere is absolutely wonderful, upbeat, friendly, and the lady behind the bar was very vibrant, bright and happy. Was wonderful to see and experience. The menu looked amazing, but it being valentines weekend, both myself and my partner decided to order of the special valentines menu. This did not disappoint. I can't emphasise how beautiful the food was...every mouthful was bursting with flavour. We don't usually do pudding, but decided to give it a go, and again, it was absolutely beautiful, words don't do it justice. All round and really wonderful evening, and we will definitely be recommending this beautiful place to friends and family, and we will be back to try the standard menu. Can't wait 😁.

Absolutely fabulous place!! So pleased we managed to book, highly recommended by the place we were staying and we were not disappointed. The look is modern but slightly rustic, lovely crisp cotton napkins, bright clean glasses. Service is friendly but efficient. Food is superlative - varied choice which is all well cooked whether it is steak exactly as ordered or fish cooked to perfection, vegetables just right, sides are great! It's been a long time since we had such good food, thank you The Stag!

Appalling. Over half an hour for our order to be taken, and a further hour or so for any food to arrive. My steak was reasonably well cooked but clearly not a good piece of meat as it was very chewy. Unfortunately at The Stag, the only opinion that matters is that of the chef and staff, not the customer. They refused to take this off the bill as 'the chef has tried it and says it's fine' (decide for yourself whether or not you think it's appropriate or hygienic to be eating food that has been returned). They also offered nothing in the way of knocking drinks or anything off the bill as way of an apology for the disgraceful wait.

Opted to try The Stag for our son’s 30th birthday. Table booked by his girlfriend (6 in total). Food was of a very good standard & quantity so no complaints there. My wife ordered a nice white wine to accompany the meal. The wrong wine was delivered to the table & it was warm! Opted to keep the wine rather than cause any fuss & requested some ice to chill the wine. When paying for our meal & drinks, we were immediately asked if we’d like to leave a tip, before being asked if everything was ok! Please consider training staff to be more friendly & accommodating to guests. We had a nice meal but will not return, nor would we recommend. Maybe just a bad day to visit but past reviews seem to suggest otherwise.

Waiter had all excuses as to how you ask for it, ie rare, medium, well done... But did say its rump so not the best cut off beef..... ( buy a better cut of beef ) we did all have desserts which were ok, we will not be returning. And it's not the first time we've been, food before has also been ok..... ish not reflecting in the prices they charge.... Alot better places to eat out...

Booked 24hrs earlier, as we wanted to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary, and were told the kitchen shut at six (booked for five o'clock). On arrival at 4:45, were asked if we'd booked. The pub looked as if there was lots of room, but apparently not enough room for us inside, but that was OK because we accommodated by saying we'd sit outside. We knew what we wanted, so asked the young lady, and she told us she wasn't taking orders, but that she'd tell the chap who was. Once outside, we were asked by the young lady, what we wanted to drink, and ordered. After a further 15mins, no drinks appeared, so gave up and left. People who'd arrived after us, had been served their drinks with no issues. Sorry, but if I don't get at least drinks, with 25 mins of arriving, it's bad.

Booked a table online, arrived at the bar and waited a couple of minutes to be shown to our table. No menus were given so after a few minutes I got up to collect them myself. Other tables had menus - unsure if they were given them when they sat down, as you would expect, or had to collect them after being seated too. Drinks and food order taken - four Sunday roasts which arrived fairly quickly. The meal was okay but I think the vegetables had been sitting around for a while. I asked for Red Wine sauce with the lamb but it arrived with gravy. Asked for the bill, which was delivered but incorrect, nobody came back to take payment. I went to the bar to ask them to remove two drinks which were not ours - this took a while and there was no apology, which is disappointing. The roast was okay but the staff didn't seem to have much idea what was going on. Being local, we have stopped in a couple of times before for a drink but this was the first time for food, as we thought we should try it. In future we will go back to the Salhouse Lodge, which we know and love.

Looks like a country pub from the outside but has more of a smart casual vibe inside. Food was to an excellent quality for both starters and mains. We both had the French onion soup and picked the salmon and chicken dishes from the specials menu. Was a little more pricy than we expected, the starters in particular. Our waitress appeared very inexperienced, serving tables in our part of the restaurant out of order, including our own, not being able to answer basic questions about the bar or menu, (whats the soup of the day for example) and being just a little skittish overall.

As others have said, we arrived 10 minutes before our booking, and were happy to wait at a high table with drinks until our table was ready. However, the people at our table would not leave, though the young server assured us that they had been asked three times. I find this hard to believe, but had to accept it. In the end, we were given a table in an outer room, which was entirely lacking in any atmosphere, and fairly uncomfortable, with glaring lights over the tables. This was an evening my husband's brother had planned for 4 of us, and had carefully booked it a week in advance. The servers are lovely, but very young and very inexperienced, and it seems there is little training given. We got our starters one hour after arriving, and when we ordered, a second server told us she had to see if the kitchen would in fact take our order right then, as they were 'backed up'. She came back and told us they would take it, and apparently we were to be very happy about this.. However, she came back 20 minutes later to inform us that our starters were now being cooked 🤷🏼 The starters were ok, though the scallops were tiny, and 3 of us had them finished in 5 minutes, while the 4th person struggled with her enormous salad and cheese fritters, more like a main than a starter. The main course I wanted had just sold out, and the server was apologetic about this, so I ordered red mullet on a bed of sauté potatoes with pancetta. We waited another 25 minutes for this course. My sister in law's fish crumble was dry, and had clearly been under a heat light for a while. My husband's prawn noodle dish was quite tasty, though there was far too much sauce for his liking. It was my red mullet that was shockingly bad. A piece of incinerated frozen fish, more bones than flesh, on top of a pile of burnt potatoes and charred pancetta (the same as were served with our scallops). This for £29. I couldn't eat it. In fact we all left most of our mains. When we were asked how the food was, I told the server that I couldn't eat mine. She assured me she would 'let the kitchen know'. I have no idea what that is supposed to achieve for a guest. I'm sure the kitchen is well used to hearing it by now, but nothing was done. In the end, we were given our initial drinks free - the drinks that we only ordered because our table was not available - but nothing else was forthcoming, not even an apology for a ruined evening which embarrassed my husband's brother very much. Cop on, Stag managers. These are local people who support your business, and I know for a fact that they will not be back. Increase the number of customers who won't be back, plus word of mouth, and what clientele are you left with?

Turned up at 2.50 pm for 3pm reservation...was told table not ready to which we replied no worrys as in no hurry...3.45pm and approached waitress to enquire of table to which she apologised that we had been overlooked ...il knock something off bill she said although we wernt that bothered ....lovely meal ...ordered two drinks for the ladies at the table to which only 1 arrived... after 10min wait I chased it up ..met by more apologies....asked for bill then paid the bill only for waitress to appear later to ask if we would like the bill to which we replied its been paid ...on leaving the premises we then get asked by a group of staff behind bar as to whether we have paid to which I say I have to which I get asked who did I pay ....I point out the waiter in question the staff then comment with finger to head as if to say he's thick to the horror of my sons girlfriend who works in mental health...I sarcastically show my receipt and we leave

Unfortunately, our experience was not good. Our pre-booked table was not ready for us when we arrived on time. After waiting 30 minutes, we were offered another table in the overflow room. Another 40 minutes before starters appeared. They were not inspiring or satisfying. Further wait for main courses which were disappointing and fish dishes were dry and overcooked. An underwhelming experience.

Food was good and service was very good. Not quite a 5 star Google rating for me (I'm fussy) but definitely worth a visit.

Reasonably priced excellence. Rich and unique coffee that's cheaper than the big chain places. Cakes are amazing with lots of unusual options as well as the classics.

The food here is always outstanding. Portion sizes are great, the staff are always so pleasant and this is the Indian restaurant we always judge others against, and very few come close.
