Just had Sunday lunch at The Stag well probably the best Sunday Roast I’ve had In a pub for a very long time. Beautifully cooked veg. My wife had a seafood salad as they had run out of crab. But she was super happy really fresh seafood. All in all great lunch.

Booked a table online, arrived at the bar and waited a couple of minutes to be shown to our table. No menus were given so after a few minutes I got up to collect them myself. Other tables had menus - unsure if they were given them when they sat down, as you would expect, or had to collect them after being seated too. Drinks and food order taken - four Sunday roasts which arrived fairly quickly. The meal was okay but I think the vegetables had been sitting around for a while. I asked for Red Wine sauce with the lamb but it arrived with gravy. Asked for the bill, which was delivered but incorrect, nobody came back to take payment. I went to the bar to ask them to remove two drinks which were not ours - this took a while and there was no apology, which is disappointing. The roast was okay but the staff didn't seem to have much idea what was going on. Being local, we have stopped in a couple of times before for a drink but this was the first time for food, as we thought we should try it. In future we will go back to the Salhouse Lodge, which we know and love.

The Sunday roast was delicious, one of the best I've had, vegetables were cooked well, huge Yorkshire pudding! We had beef, pork and lamb - all were great. We were a little rushed at the end as the table was needed despite only being sat for an hour, we wouldn't have had time for dessert even f we wanted it so that was a little disappointing. On arrival it was two deep at the bar and a blond lady called Coral was working behind the bar and asked what we wanted to drink, she made us feel welcome and said sit down and the drinks arrived promptly. I watched her serving about ten different orders and she never got a drink wrong all afternoon. Brilliant service and food but Coral was the star of the show 👍👍

Spir of the moment decision to have a Sunday roast out lead us with friends to The Stag. Plumped for the lamb roast and wasn't disappointed. The meat was succulent with very little fat. Roast potatoes were very slightly over but still tasty. The red wine gravy was so nice and a great compliment to the meat. Everyone else went for the beef which looked great. All i will say is that one plate had a lot less beef on than yhe other two. Not normally a desert person but had to give them a look. The Oreo pie was delicious with a scoop of creamy ice cream on the beautifully decorated plate. Will have to go back and try all the others.

I was taken here by my family for my birthday in February. The food was great and so was the service. It is lovely to see that one of the local countryside pubs I've grown up around has been taken over and although turned into more of a dining pub it has still kept the character of the local community pub where everyone is welcome. I will definitely be returning and recommend this place to anyone wanting a nice meal in a nice country pub.

Looks like a country pub from the outside but has more of a smart casual vibe inside. Food was to an excellent quality for both starters and mains. We both had the French onion soup and picked the salmon and chicken dishes from the specials menu. Was a little more pricy than we expected, the starters in particular. Our waitress appeared very inexperienced, serving tables in our part of the restaurant out of order, including our own, not being able to answer basic questions about the bar or menu, (whats the soup of the day for example) and being just a little skittish overall.

The Christmas set meal was awful, steak was the worst I’ve had in a long time, I’ve also tried the cod and chips, in a nutshell don’t bother tasteless and under cooked. The beer selection is awful and nowhere to sit even if you did fancy a pint as I live locally. It not a local pub it’s a restaurant.

As others have said, we arrived 10 minutes before our booking, and were happy to wait at a high table with drinks until our table was ready. However, the people at our table would not leave, though the young server assured us that they had been asked three times. I find this hard to believe, but had to accept it. In the end, we were given a table in an outer room, which was entirely lacking in any atmosphere, and fairly uncomfortable, with glaring lights over the tables. This was an evening my husband's brother had planned for 4 of us, and had carefully booked it a week in advance. The servers are lovely, but very young and very inexperienced, and it seems there is little training given. We got our starters one hour after arriving, and when we ordered, a second server told us she had to see if the kitchen would in fact take our order right then, as they were 'backed up'. She came back and told us they would take it, and apparently we were to be very happy about this.. However, she came back 20 minutes later to inform us that our starters were now being cooked 🤷🏼 The starters were ok, though the scallops were tiny, and 3 of us had them finished in 5 minutes, while the 4th person struggled with her enormous salad and cheese fritters, more like a main than a starter. The main course I wanted had just sold out, and the server was apologetic about this, so I ordered red mullet on a bed of sauté potatoes with pancetta. We waited another 25 minutes for this course. My sister in law's fish crumble was dry, and had clearly been under a heat light for a while. My husband's prawn noodle dish was quite tasty, though there was far too much sauce for his liking. It was my red mullet that was shockingly bad. A piece of incinerated frozen fish, more bones than flesh, on top of a pile of burnt potatoes and charred pancetta (the same as were served with our scallops). This for £29. I couldn't eat it. In fact we all left most of our mains. When we were asked how the food was, I told the server that I couldn't eat mine. She assured me she would 'let the kitchen know'. I have no idea what that is supposed to achieve for a guest. I'm sure the kitchen is well used to hearing it by now, but nothing was done. In the end, we were given our initial drinks free - the drinks that we only ordered because our table was not available - but nothing else was forthcoming, not even an apology for a ruined evening which embarrassed my husband's brother very much. Cop on, Stag managers. These are local people who support your business, and I know for a fact that they will not be back. Increase the number of customers who won't be back, plus word of mouth, and what clientele are you left with?

Unfortunately, our experience was not good. Our pre-booked table was not ready for us when we arrived on time. After waiting 30 minutes, we were offered another table in the overflow room. Another 40 minutes before starters appeared. They were not inspiring or satisfying. Further wait for main courses which were disappointing and fish dishes were dry and overcooked. Me and my partner went to the Stag in Salhouse for a Valentine's Day meal. The pub itself is nice inside, however, the same cannot be said for its staff or its food. We ordered the prawns on garlic-covered bruschetta, which was very good and left us excited for our mains. We ordered the steak with peppercorn sauce (£33) and the steak and kidney suet pudding (£18.50). When the steak came out over half of the plate was covered in clearly frozen cooked chips, not the triple-cooked hand-cut chips as advertised. The chips were worse than Weatherspoon’s chips, they came out anaemic and extremely potatoey, which are not the kind of chips you expect with the price. The steak itself was undercooked, medium rare was requested but it was cooked just about to be on the rare side of raw. When raising this with our server she denied that it was undercooked for our liking and argued with us for two minutes, making us feel like we had never had a steak before. This hostile server eventually took our steak back, still in defiance, and we had to wait for over 7 minutes for it to come back out by which time the steak and kidney suet pudding was going cold. The peppercorn sauce that we had also ordered did not come out and had to be requested, this took 5 minutes to come out. To say the steak was a disappointment for the price point is an understatement, perhaps the owner could think about lowering the price to around £20-£25 then the steak would have been ok value. The steak and kidney suet pudding was not any better, the steak inside was chewy and hard to cut through, and much sawing was required to get through a sugar cube size of steak. The mashed potatoes that came with the pudding had the consistency of Playdough and again looked and tasted like it was frozen mash not creamy or soft and fluffy like good mash should be it also lacked all taste, not what you would expect. When giving our thoughts about the meal with our server she again was hostile and did not believe us when the evidence was in front of her. Before this, we had run out of drinks and no one came up to us to ask if we wanted anymore, as a pub this should be standard if you want to make any money, this shows a lack of care from the staff members. Also, after we had finished how meals and made it obvious that we had we had server after server walking past our table and ignoring us it took an exceptionally long time for the plates to be cleared roughly 10 minutes or so, in an empty pub. Adding on to the lack of service, when we said our food was poor the server said ‘why didn’t you raise this with me beforehand’. This was not possible because she didn’t come to the table and, we did not finish our food making it evidently clear that the food was awful. The server then again, after some persuasion about the poor standard of food, took our plates to show to the chef. After speaking to the chef who was adamant that the food was 'cooked to perfection' we were given the starter for free and the peppercorn sauce, totalling £13. However, the service at this pub was shockingly hostile and the food was just poor for the price, there was no care from the chef who had packed up for the night. I would not recommend this pub to anyone who wants to have a nice meal with good food with a nice server. After reading many reviews there seems to be a theme with them and that’s the poor service, if this pub wants to improve customer satisfaction then some courtesy from the staff would be a good start along with some care for the food, they are serving at an up market price tag Londoners would be surprised.

Expensively renovated pub let down by the offer. Only 2 draught beers. Good looking manageable size menu. I made a tactical mistake choosing fish and chips. There were poor for the price. Fish overcooked, dry, and seemed frozen rather than fresh. My wife's fish crumble seemed good but exhibited signs of being microwaved (inside significantly hotter than outside). Pretty good veg not overcooked. Service a bit negligent. Asked if we wanted a drink when seated but not offered menus and had to request later. Had to request bill twice. Poor layout. We were on a table for two in a choke point between bar, kitchen and "conservatory" room. Just had to try this pub again after the transformation. The photos of the Sunday roasts on here looked very good. Alas when we went to try the roast on a Sunday the 2 slithers of beef we received was wafer thin although the rest was nice enough. Disappointing after seeing the photos on here, were they near the end of the joint ? Certainly had enough room for a dessert so tried the choc torte. A very mean thin slice was brought out , although tasty. Yes the staff are friendly, the pub transformation was lovely, but for us the food was only 7 out of 10. With the fantastic food at the Salhouse Lodge just around the corner The Stag must try harder. I know where we will be heading.

A big shout out to Alex who was professional, genuine and could not have done more to make my party a night to remember. I have been inundated with messages from my friends and family about how impressed they were with everyone and everything. I have to mention Jemma too, who was also absolutely stunning on the night. Thank you SO much Team Stag!

We had a lovely tasty meal. Lovely Suet Pudding. However it took a long time for the food to come out.

Lovely newly refurbished village pub / restaurant with exceptionally friendly sevice and excellent food. We had light lunches of smoked chicken & avocado open sandwich and a caesar salad both accompanied by an excellent rose wine. There was a lovely atmosphere and the whole establishment including the loos were very clean. We will certainly be back

Wife’s meal - risotto with salmon and sea bass fillet this was stunning absolutely recommend this. My meal - scallops on cauliflower puree with fries was very good but luke warm didn’t do the puree any favours Service very good 3 young lads working the bar and restaurant, very happy, friendly and professional

We have visited the Stag on 3 occasions to eat since they have been open & each meal has been consistently good. There is a pleasant ambiance and it makes a change to have real locals at a food driven pub. The staff are professional friendly and well trained. The food is reasonably priced, tasty and varied. There is also a beer garden out the back. All the best to all involved

New favourite place to eat ! Food was absolutely delicious, I’d actually say outstanding!! Owners Katie and Lester were wonderful along with every member of staff who we come across were all so welcoming ! I honestly can’t recommend this place enough ! The atmosphere was so calming for somewhere so busy! We walked in quite late on the off chance and even though the carpark was full they still got us in and served super quick !

The staff at the stag were so friendly and helpful making me and my family experience a really positive one. Would like to say a big thank you to Alex who was running the pub at the time who was extremely friendly and helpful, also Owen who brought us our food he was very nice and made us feel welcomed by asking if we needed anything else and kept checking on us. Really nice place with good staff, the food was amazing for a really good price, will definitely be returning soon :)
