Lovely cosy pub in Chorleywood. Very friendly staff and lovely food. We had nibbles for lunch and shared them. Delicious menu! We will be back. Thank you

Booked my 50th here in May for the end of September. We talked music (my friend playing guitar) , buffet menu and pricing for about 70 people . 3 weeks before I see there is another musician playing. Was told that they never wrote down that I had a friend playing and they weren't going to cancel their performer. The other performer refused to acknowledge we were having a party and wasn't going to change her mellow set to more upbeat. 2 weeks before the party the buffet changed to an extremely fancy non party friendly buffet with a lot of emphasis on plant based hummus and falafel. If I wanted to have party friendly goujons and sausage rolls that would be £6 extra per person. I'll let you do the Maths on about 50 people we had planned to cater for. Was told when I cancelled I could have some balloons but I think the trust has gone there.

Second time we have visited as a family of 7 and not in the least disappointed. Superb (and large) roast dinners all brought to the table hot and at the same time as the varied other choices. Staff very busy towards the end of a Sunday shift but coped well and everything accurate. Prices quite reasonable and good value.

Came for some drinks with 3 friends, normally we’re greeted by lovely friendly members of staff. Not sure if it was their night off, but the new gentleman behind the bar wasn’t at all friendly in all honesty he was rude. We didn’t know what to order and asked about the array of gins from the top shelf he had no knowledge what to recommend. It wasn’t busy but didn’t engage with us like the usual staff would. Doesn’t put us off coming back but would like to say maybe he needs more training in customer service.

4 of us dined in on Father's Day and table was ready early for us which was great, however no one offered us any menus so after 10 minutes we picked some up at the bar and went to order from the a la carte menu that we had picked up but were told it had to be from the set Father's Day menu, something that wasn't made clear when we booked. Starters were fine but when the mains arrived there were 2 issues, the roast beef on one of them was rare, and I mean very rare, so it was sent back and replaced quickly Another meal was supposed to be a double burger 🍔 with onion rings and when it arrived it was only one burger and onion rings missing. We were told this meal would be deducted from our bill which was fine, then we waited for a dessert for one of our party, they forgot it so after 20 minutes or so it came out. Then the chaos began, the bill had all 4 meals charged for (not the 3) and the dessert was added on as an extra, despite that meal not being ordered with a starter Spoke to the manager who sorted out a new bill and deducted the service charge as we had been poorly served on the day (drinks and cutlery) also missed out on On a positive note the food was quite good but Stag please sort out your service and attention to detail It won't stop me coming back, but it might do other customers

We booked out the conservatory for my sisters hen do and the staff were incredible. They were super helpful in setting up, even noticing things we hadn’t. We had pre ordered as a large group and all orders were correct, super hot and delicious. The rest of the pub got very busy as it was a Saturday night but if we asked anything they sorted it as soon as they could. Would definitely recommend.

We went en famille on Friday 15/5 and the food (new and interesting menu, new chef) and attentive service (new manager Tom) was excellent! 🎉 😋

Amazing family friendly pub, with a great back garden for the kids to play. The staff was very friendly and no request was too much for them. All the food was very fresh, bursting with natural flavours. I had the Wagyu beef burger as a main and it was fantastic, the meat was incredibly tender, melting in the mouth like butter and depth of flavor. Each bite was a revelation, with the beef melting in the mouth like butter. I'm looking forward to return and try the other dishes in the menu. I will definitely see you soon.

There were 8 of us having dinner tonight and even though it was really busy (clearly a testament to how good this pub is), our server Svetlana was quick to take our drinks orders. We then had to try and choose from the fabulous menu. When the food came to was beautifully presented, hot & tasty! Everyone enjoyed their meal and some of us even managed dessert! We had great service from Megan & Laura too. At the end of the meal, Siobhan was super helpful taking everyone’s bill individually and being very patient with the older members of our group. All in all, an excellent evening and we shall definitely be back! 😁😁

Went for a Sunday roast as a group of six, including two under fives. Food was wonderful, including a very nice desert! Good value, great service, quick and friendly, and lovely atmosphere. Lots of parking and round the corner from a nice playground which we went to beforehand. Outside space at pub is also nice, enclosed which is good for the children. Strongly recommend and will go again soon.

Went for Sunday lunch, and it was fantastic. Melt in your mouth beef. Propably one of the best roasts I have ever had.!!!!!!!! Staff are lovely, friendly and accomodating. Nice atmosphere, and lovely surroundings. Well worth a bisit if ylu are in the area.

Warm welcome, prompt and friendly service. Lauren our server took really good care of us. Had Sunday lunch, roast beef excellent, melt in the mouth all the trimmings and veg fresh and cooked well. Nice wine selection and good selection of soft drinks. So happy this is local to us. Highly recommended 👌🏻

Just back from Sunday lunch! Fabulous meal, we weren’t expecting such portion sizes they’re huge and melt in the mouth and amazing, we had beef and the cauliflower cheese on the side and it was incredible. We were served by Lauren she was bubbly and super experienced on knowledge of the food and drinks and gave us great recommendations. We were relaxed and enjoyed our meal and that was due because of the amazing food and the wonderful staff member Lauren who was great. Will be recommending to friends and will definitely be back. Ate here for a special occasion with friends. We went the whole hog and had 3 courses including various seafood options and one person had lamb. Everything was excellent, tasty and beautifully presented. We also enjoyed a lovely white wine. The service from Sam and Lauren greatly enhanced our enjoyment of our meal. They both gave helpful tips, ensured we had all the accoutrements we needed and kept us entertained with their engaging wit and humour. Lauren has the charisma to sell anyone a dessert when they've already eaten too much!!! We love this gastropub for its extensive and imaginative menu enhanced by ever-changing chef's specials. We'll be regulars....

Visited after the refurb, and I have to say, what a transformation. Warm friendly staff, and the Sunday lunch was delicious. 10 out of 10. We will definately be back.

Went in with a few mates for a rare sensible boys night out as i'd not been since June and heard it had a refurb and a menu change. Well the bar flies are still buzzing around i see (and i'm not referring to the regulars) yes actual flies, i know its been warm but it looked like a maggot infestation had occured! The lager tasted flat and wasn't a full pint. The food was worse than the last time I came which i didn't think possible. Soup was tepid, my friends salad was warm and wilted with brown spoliage on the leaves. I had the special which was bland and seemed to be unseasoned. Wont be coming back again. Do yourselves a favour and give this overpriced slop a miss!

After closing down for a "refurb" i thought i would give it a go after a previous bad experience, i wish i hadn'tve bothered, after finding a hair in my food i was told "it must be mine, as none of the waiting staff had black hair", even though i found it within a min or 2 of arriving at the table... the beer was flat and had a subtle old dish cloth taste to it. The staff seemed indifferent and not like they wanted to be there at all. We expected an improvement after the "refurb" but its actually worse. Will not be going back untill it changes management.

This place has gone down hill. A few weeks ago was in for drinks and they had NO glasses and the entire bar was covered literally from one end to the other with used glasses. Pint of mild was awful. Yesterday went in for dinner and drinks four alcoholic drinks, two soft drinks, bottle Of house wine, one kids pasta, one sliced half chicken breast on a few leaves with a handful of cold fries, and two fist fills of mashed potato, carrots and green beans with a tough as shoe leather lamb shanked dumped and squeezed into a pasta bowl with not a seconds thought to presentation. Had to go up and order food and drink each time at bar yet they had the temerity to charge a service charge. £109. After complaining they scrapped the £17.50 charge for the lamb shank. Atrocious place will not be going back. Sadly, this is becoming all too frequent in Chorleywood with places charging astronomical prices and then serving up sub standard fare with zero service. Best tip. Cool and eat at home.

The first time we came to The Stag, we thought we died and went to food heaven. Huge portions, tiny prices, beautifully cooked and presented food.So we decided to make it our regular and systematically work our way through all the delicious dishes on their menu. ...What a disappointment this time around! Our starters were meagre and limp, and the mains were beautifully presented - and tasted at best mediocre. All vegetables and risotto overcooked into a slime, everything way too salty, and the osso bucco which was a special - an abominably grisly, fatty, tough knuckle of grey meat. It tasted disgusting, with slivers of ground bone embedded in the flesh. Never had a dish been do far removed from what it wad supposed to taste like: silky, tender, sweet, falling off the bone, swimming in dark rich sauce.Their only exude is that is was Sunday lunch and peak busy service.

I have mixed opinions about The Stag. Visited again recently for lunch and it was better than the previous visit. Lots of the menu options were not available, the food took quite a long time to arrive and the Managers attitude is still like he really doesn’t care at all. Massive difference in portion sizes between chunky chips (small bowl) and posh or cheesy chips (huge bowl). On the plus side, the Waitress was lovely and food was mostly better than before.

Just didn’t want to cook at home so decided to have sausage and mash at the pub. Very tasty . Not many staff although the place was buzzing but service was ok and food very tasty,

The food and customer service is excellent, always very relaxed and nothjing is too much trouble, a proper country pub where dogs are welcome.

I went here Friday for a funeral , what an eye opener please do not use this place if your looking for a friendly place or any sort of compassion in these sad circumstances, the owner was beyond rude , apparently he was lovely An couldn’t do enough to accommodate when being booked , the buffet was expensive £12.50a head , and not up to expectations, soggy greasy wraps , oily pasta and dry bread and there was money placed behind the bar enough too buy everybody their first drink but the staff was asking “ Do you want a double or single “ which is a given greedy people will have doubles also they didn’t give an option for house brands they were serving all the well known more expensive ones ! A number of us was discussed , so please AVOID this place I wouldn’t even give this place one star

We got caught out by a huge tail back on the M25 so pulled off to find nearest reasonable pub with wheelchair access.

Busy day for the restaurant but they seemed to manage well, food all came out hot and in a timely fashion however drinks and table extras were considerably slower.

Visited as a group of 8 on Saturday between Xmas and new year and not sure what to expect. The stag was surprisingly busy and there was a good atmosphere. service was good and we all thought that the main courses were excellent - taste quantity and presentation. Regular Starters were also good but the tapas is a bit so-so. Bill was reasonable.

We were so excited to be going out for Christmas lunch, But this pub was crammed tight with tables, no room to moved, over priced with really low quality food which did not resemble Christmas.

I booked for 10 people for Christmas dinner in October paying a £10 deposit per person. Between then and Christmas my elderly grandad had become very ill with cancer and was not able to eat barely anything most days. I called the manager about a week before Christmas to ask if he could possibly have a child’s portion on the day as this was a lot cheaper and we knew he’d probably only have a few mouthfuls. I was told that no he couldn’t have this as I’d booked for an adult and it wasn’t about the amount of food it was about the space taken up, I believed this point was not valid as a 10 year old child would take up the same space as an adult and he’d definitely eat less than a 10 year old. To this I was told that it was his choice not to eat much and he was trying to run a business. Totally understand about running a business but also there should be an element of compassion and hospitality when running a pub. In the end after being quite irate I was told by the manager we could discuss it on the day. In the end my grandad also nearly couldn’t even come to the meal, we managed to get him out but he probably ate about one potato and a tiny amount of the starters. The manager never bought it up on the day and in the end I didn’t want to start an argument but still very unimpressed with the whole situation.

Well where do I start!! When booking they was told one person was highly nut allergic and one a celiac, on arrival we were a party of 6 and given a table with only 4 chairs and 5 crackers! Then the nitemare started! Again we told them of the allergies before the first course but was still given a plate with walnuts covering g the food! Next course again having been told , my daughter was happily eating until we checked on the menu what we was eating as was not clear and found that she had eaten a starter with nuts in!!!!! Administered her meds and complained to be told it was our own fault they did not know even though we had told them 3 times!!! Decided to stay and risk the main course when they had finally aknowledged the intolerances and allergies and my daughter and mother were handed a plate of dry meat and told the only others thing they could eat was a few of the veg!! Not quite the xmas dinner we hoped for! Needless to say we got up and walked out! Came home and cooked xmas dinner totally disgusting service and a danger to anyone with allergies!

After being told at booking our table had someone nut allergic and another Gluten allergic. We were dished up starters with walnuts on. It didnt change either as the next course had nuts in and two of our party had to rush of to get piriton and quick as the food had bloody nuts in it again.

Greeted very nicely and shown to our table, drinks ordered and came quickly, my friend had the pheasant and I the fried chicken burger, we both enjoyed our food but the potatoes with the pheasant were hard and inedible, everything else was lovely though, I had apple crumble my friend the ice cream, both went down well, but the custard came cold and I did ask when ordering if the desert could come hot, however it was changed for a hot on but took a long time so my friends ice cream was melting away, lovely environment and atmosphere to sit in and enjoy the evening

Another fab meal. Roast dinners are big and gorgeous. My burger was huge. All extra dishes we’re plentiful. One BIG bonus.. they accept dogs inside. We had 4 large dogs and had the table by the window. Well recommended ❤️

Was attracted by the lovely looking Autumn menu. My only gripe was that there was no pheasant available - wouldn’t be any for the next two weeks ( we’re 5 weeks into the season??!!). Anyway the Jacobs Ladder was delicious. Wine is reasonably cheap, service is good. We all had a good time - will return.

Found this coming off the M25 looking for somewhere to eat. What a gem, about 5 minutes from the motorway. Friendly waitress took us to a conservatory table and took our drinks order. 4 of us each had different burgers with various chips. All cooked to perfection and very filling. Wife's onion allergy not a problem here, this is getting to be a common thing in most good restaurants these days. If food is freshly prepared, her allergy isn't a problem. This place is lovely and good value. Highly recommend it.

Having scoured Hertfordshire for good pubs that are not part of chain; but also have good service and great food, we have finally found one!!

We were turned away by the over swanky Bedford Arms and they did us a favour. Excellent Sunday Roast lunch with friendly service and you won’t go away hungry! Recommended

Visited the pub at about 7pm on a Sunday Evening. 2 adults and 2 kids. We ordered 2 roast dinners, a chicken supreme and kids sausage and mash. The food was delicious, good portion sizes and lovely snacks given as a starter, pre dinner snack with was a lovely touch.

This place is for anyone who enjoys a friendly atmosphere , fresh pints and food. (The 3 great "f's") After visiting another pub in the area and almost losing the will to live i found this pub to definetly be the one to go to in chorleywood.

My daughter husband and I popped in here as my daughter had been previously and thought we would like it! How wrong she was! Firstly I asked for an Aperol Spritz,bearing in mind it was a scorching hot day, to be told they don’t have Aperol, I had a second look to confirm this was a bar! Ok so then I asked for a white wine spritzer to be told they didn’t have a Sauvignon or a Pinot, really.

Looking for somewhere off the motorway this is the place! Dog friendly and the best service. A brilliant lunch menu. I enjoyed some Tapa's dishes all of which were cooked to a really high standard. A fantastic pub which ticks all the boxes. Lucky locals!
