A very nice cafe on 2 levels, with a small garden and outside seats and tables. It sells proper meals and snacks. It overlooks the canal port.

I have visited the Stables Cafe a few times now on my bike rides and despite the indifferent service and the expensive prices the cakes & snacks have been ok. However this time I chose a coffee and two sausage rolls which cost £11.50. Had to wait for the SR's to be warmed up. After about 15 minutes i went to counter again but when i asked if they were ready the lady at the counter went into the kitchen and after a couple of minutes appeared with the two SR's. With the plates still warm from the mico-wave and to my disgust two semi-warm SR's which had been reheated at least twice and were in no way fresh and they tasted awful so bad in fact i had to go to the toilet and throw up. Just awful........... I would suggest that customers avoid the SR's

Had the large breakfast , mushrooms, bacon and hashbrowns were excellent, however the offering was let down by the most awful sausages I've ever encountered in my life! Made Tesco value sausages a more meatier option! Shame as the other ingredients were of a good quality to be ruined by this. My partners toast ( it wasn't busy so unsure what went wrong) was bread with slightly toasted crust- maybe more than 5 seconds in the toaster? First breakfast there in a few years, probably my last.

It's a nice cafe in a nice place convenient for local walks etc. The food is good, but you should expect a slow service... There is normally a que, and the wait for food can be long even when it's not that busy. Don't want to be too negative, as you do eventually get your food, just never had a speedy service. If you're going just for coffee and cake, then it's all good as that's served immediately.

We had gone with managed expectations after reading other reviews but thought we’d give it a chance. Service was on the slow side but not as bad as indicated in other reviews so we thought we’d got lucky. Food was reasonable when it arrived. However, the Tea can only be described as dire. In my wife’s words ‘I’m sure they’ve scooped this out of the canal’ and ‘if that was all I could ever have to drink, I’d be dead pretty soon’ Take your own teabags/coffee and make sure you are comfy for the wait on food and you should be fine.

They didn’t seem to be a shortage of staff. The advert suggests a quick bite. There was nothing quick about it. 20 Minutes, I stood in the queue and only one person was served. They didn’t seem to be an exclamation as to what was taking so long. for 12:15 on a Sunday afternoon the predicted time for service was 45 minutes. This would suggest either don’t have enough staff or can’t cope with the level of service. Lots of empty tables so I suggested was the former. I wasn’t the only person who just gave up after waiting so long. The barges on the canal move quicker!!

Service without a smile, or any haste what-so-ever. I'm not sure just how big their kitchen is, but I do wonder whether they're kitted out to handle the amount of guests visiting; there's quite a few seats about the place, but it seems to take forever to actually get any food and there's practically always a very slow queue. For what it's worth, the food isn't bad, at least in terms of hot food and sandwiches; the cakes and tray bakes (for £3.50 each) are rather bland and look like they've been kicked about the floor somewhat, hardly enticing. Whilst I can also appreciate that young people would rather be doing other things than working, the staff here, all of which seem to be young just lack any sort of personality or mannerism. Who's doing the recruiting? Who's doing the customer service training? Is there any? It's a nice venue, right next to the canal/river, but based on the reviews here, and a few comments from other patrons I overheard on my visit, you can easily see why people don't rate this place very highly, which is a shame.

Lovely lunch in the garden under the shade of a huge umbrella. Jacket potatoes were large, hot and well-filled. We were going to have a piece of cake as well but had no room, so settled for an ice cream walking down the canal. I can't wait to come back. My friends and I have been to The Stables Cafe several times for our regular monthly breakfast meet and I can honestly say, without fear of contradiction, that the breakfast today was, with doubt, the WORST ENGLISH BREAKFAST I HAVE EVER HAD. I chose the small breakfast consisting of two rashers of bacon, one sausage, one fried egg, fried bread and a Latte Coffee. To emphasise how bad it was, everything on the plate was cooked in a deep fat fryer, of this I am absolutely certain, the bacon was like leather, the sausage was nearly black, the egg looked like it had been dropped on the floor and the fried bread was oozing cooking oil onto the plate. And all this for the princely sum of £6.35 + Coffee. I did try to eat what I had paid for (£7+) but after one rasher of bacon, one bite of sausage, most of the eggy thing and a bite of rock hard fried bread I decided to return the remainder to the counter and tell them what I thought, did they show any concern? no, did they offer a refund? no, would I go to Stables Cafe at Saul Junction again NO, NO, NO. Would I recommend it to my worst enemy? NO. My conclusion is that the cafe is manned by what appeared to be teenagers, not an issue if they know what they are doing, but todays kitchen staff obviously don’t, even to the extent that they were very busy and rather than cook anything properly it was easier to throw everything in the deep fat fryer. DISGUSTING.

Extremely disappointed. Arrived at 11.10am for the breakfast that is served until 11.30am. Kitchen staff were stood on their phone, needed 2 people to make a drink, remarkably slow getting through the queue. We were stood waiting to order for 5 minutes, but took 2 people a long time to make a latte for the customers in front. Then we finally went to order at 11.32am, to be told they were no longer serving breakfast. I appreciate that the cut off is in place, however, it would've been decent to go down the queue and tell customers where the cut off was as to not waste our time. We ended up ordering some hot drinks and cakes, the hot chocolate was luke warm at best and the cakes were dry. Have had lovely breakfasts there before but very disappointed on this occasion. We did bring someone with us who had not been before, and likely won't go again.

Stayed in the area over the weekend and came here for Sunday lunch. Queued 30 minutes to place order + a further 30 minutes for food to arrive. Not overly busy, but very slow service. £19.50 for 1 pasty (no accompanying salad), 1 egg sandwich (bread rather dry with 1 greasy fried egg - not egg mayo), 1 pot of tea, 1 coke + 2 bits of flapjack. I think that's a tad expensive for poorly presented food. Maybe some pre-prepared sandwiches could be available to save excess waiting. The sign showing current waiting time was blank. The toilets were not clean and there were no hand towels for drying hands. No sign on the wall to indicate the times when they were last cleaned. Outside there was a distinct whiff of something unpleasant from the grassed area (drains or ditch?) when the wind caught it. Next day discovered the Ship Inn at Framilode (only 10 minutes' walk from Saul Junction), where lunch was served quicker and was far better quality. The Black Shed at the Patch is also much better value. We won't be returning to the Stables, despite the sign on the door indicating 5 stars.
