The food is delicious if you can get what is on the menu! Each time I have ordered a dish there has been something unavailable - no hollandaise, no chorizo etc. It’s a shame because what they do have is lovely and it has a nice little venue.

Just been for Sunday lunch as a group of 7. Cannot fault the place. Most amazing food, lovely venue, fantastic, friendly, faultless service service. Would 100% recommend and will deginately be back.

This was our second visit, having been amazed by the quality and presentation of a Sunday lunch we all enjoyed so much recently. The attention to detail here is astounding and I cannot think of any serious competition they must have. Tonight's meal was sooooo good - all courses were a feast for the eye as well as the tum. Service was friendly and attentive and we all left feeling totally satisfied and looking forward to our next visit.

Visited The Stables for a mid-week evening meal, place was reasonably busy which gave a nice atmosphere, Food throughout was stunning, my personal favourite was the slow cooked beef cheek, it was so soft you could eat it with a spoon, fantastic sauce and really tasty accompaniments. My better half had the seafood linguine, which she stated was also amazing

I would love to look at the menu and book a table having been to The Stables in the past. However, this can now only be accessed via Facebook. I wish businesses would stop doing this. I have good reasons to not have a Facebook account and don't want to have to log into a third party website to have to even look at information about a restaurant. I will therefore not be booking a table.

I visited pre lockdown in March 2020 for a family meal to celebrate what would be my elderly mother's last birthday.The service was polite and most of the food was okay, but the quality was a little hit and miss. There were six of us, so it was a large group for a tiny restaurant. Four out of the six meals were perfect, but the two vegetarian meals were not very warm and bland. It is expensive for what it is, though. We did visit once before with a similar experience. It is most definitely a local restaurant for local people, though as I do feel we were left waiting in-between courses in favour of regulars.I'm writing this as I expect a rush of positive ratings from friends of the proprietor to make a point after the last negative review and the proprietor's explosive post on Facebook And although I do feel that the aforementioned review was a little unfair, I do have some legitimate feedback.I sadly won't be visiting here again.

Was planning to visit again because this is very local to me but Michelle Barlow banned me because I made a post stating that I didn't agree with the covid lock downs, called me an obnoxious a*sehole on a local public group. Well thats you down good few hundred £, will be more when I tell everybody how you speak to your customers.

We went to The Stables last night for a birthday celebration. The meal was excellent. We both enjoyed the lovely food and the service was friendly and efficient. All the protocols are in place for the COVID regulations and we felt perfectly safe. This is always our go to restaurant for celebration meals and we have never been disappointed.

We often had people telling us how good the food was, and they weren’t wrong. We have just had a lovely evening at the Stables. Good service and excellent food. Our local area isn’t known for its cuisine but the Stables certainly bucks the trend. In fact it was so good that we booked again whilst paying the bill. Can’t recommend enough

Wow, visited this restaurant for the first time today with other family members (who are regulars) to celebrate my mother in laws 80th birthday. Fabulous little restaurant with a wonderful staff team & amazing food. The prices are very good & the quality of the food & the range of meals on offer was great. I had the curried parsnip soup to start & I can honestly say it was the nicest soup I have ever had. The rest of our group all had a variety of the roast dinners on offer, I had the Peroni battered haddock.... again, this was so tasty. My husband & I will be going back.

I visited with a friend for lunch today and had the ‘beer can’ chicken. It was absolutely delicious! The gravy blew me away!! Michelle served us and was very friendly and helpful. Didn’t have room for a pudding, but they looked stunning. Will definitely be coming back with my partner.

Party of 7 had a fantastic Sunday roast. Interesting starters with the cauliflower pakora being the highlight. Lamb, beef and chicken roasts all great. You can tell the quality by the veg - no bland boiled peas/cabbage/potatoes here, cauliflower cheese, roast parsnips, carrot mash...etc. Friendly and efficient service. Highly recommended.

I've been meaning to write this up for a couple of weeks. Called into the Stables Bistro for Sunday lunch a few weeks back, there was supposed to be 5 of us including my friend's young son, but his dad had to drop out. Michelle (Owner / waitress) was fine about it, in fact she made quite a fuss of the lad, now on his 'double date' with his mum :-) bringing him a 'special menu' and arranging for an (off the menu) main course when he couldn't find what he liked. Smiles all round.The food was fabulous, especially the beer can chicken that I had. I'd planned on a Sunday roast, but this was a fabulous alternative, really juicy, tender chicken with a stunning sauce. Predictably stuffed after the main course, but still managed to squeeze in a wonderfully light ginger dessert with custard.Cracking cosy place, run by a really friendly couple who make a great team. Will definitely be going back.

Went for lunch didn't book . Front of house greeted us very sternly with have you booked no smile and not at all welcoming. Jumped on us straight away to order drinks when we was still looking at wine list..ordered food at same time as ordering wine. First course came and she just plonked it down. No words spoken silent. As soon as fork was put down she was stood over us to remove plates. Main meal came and same again silence. Then just as finished again plates cleared and then asked if we were paying cash or card. Didn't have time to ask for the bill. She was back within seconds with the card machine. The food was absolutely lovely no complaints about that what's so ever. Just found the waitress not very friendly or welcoming. I understand your Avery busy restaurant but I got the impression she didn't want us there. Very rudely asked us if we had booked on arrival. To see when we left less than an hour later 1pm the restaurant only had 3 other tables in. Found her very rude. Sorry don't like complaining especially after the food was perfect.

Brilliant food. Presentation excellent. Staff very helpful and friendly. Puddings to die for will definitely be back.

Expensive. Limited choice. Opened 10 mins late for our booking. We were stood outside in the rain. When the waitress saw us she commented "thought I had unlocked that". There was no apology...However food was good.

Having never been we didn’t know what to expect but the food we had was very well presented and absolutely delicious!! The waitress was really lovely and attentive. Would highly recommend and will certainly be visiting again!

Just finished a visit to The Stables after a last minute decision to go for a meal. As I have a Gourmet card it was on their listing so went for the first time. Fantastic food, enjoyed the Steak and my partner had the Monkfish and Prawn Kebab with Thai curry sauce. Starters were super too. Very good service with helpful waitress. We will definitely be back!

We hadn't visited The Stables for toooo long. We had a really good reminder of just what a superb restaurant this is. Fresh quality food, beautifully prepared, and hitting the right spot in terms of preparation, taste and appearance. The chef is obviously very gifted and the bread, butter, and oil/balsamic starter was a great start - really tasty home-baked breads and delicious flavoured butter. The mains - pork fillet and sea trout - were both beautifully prepared, and complemented by plenty of freshly cooked vegetables. We eyed the desserts, but, sadly, were so satisfied with the first two courses couldn't really manage one. The atmosphere is friendly & relaxed, the service excellent, the prices very reasonable, and all in all, you couldn't wish for more from a great meal out. We won't leave it so long next time - happy to have such a brilliant restaurant so close to us.

We celebrated my mother’s 60th birthday last night at the stables and as always the food was incredible. Michelle and Tim went out of their way to accommodate everyone and ensured we all had a fabulous time. Would highly recommend using their restaurant for any occasion, for a warm, friendly and personal touch.

This place is in an out of the way place which you wouldn't normally come across unless living locally.

We visited for Sunday lunch and enjoyed the traditional roast meal with very good stuffing. The lamb , pork and beef were very good. The deserts were excellent especially the marmalade sponge. The service was friendly, efficient and helpful including support for my 95 year old mother in law. Nothing was too much bother. Recommended

The menu never ceases to impress and Tim and Michelle’s passion for their marvellous menu and ingredients takes some beating! The Hangar steak was absolutely delicious as was the monkfish and prawn kebab. The vegetarian options are excellent too and the presentation is stunning. The cherry on top was the fact that Tim has created gluten free sticky toffee ginger and pecan pudding PLUS crepes with strawberries on my last two visits. They tasted unbelievably yummy and I wanted to lick the plate! If you can inform Tim in advance about GF requests he is prepared to go the extra mile and make the menu truly inclusive. The Stables is a hidden gem and we are so lucky having it on our doorstep. Thank you so much!

This is a very late review so please accept my apologies. Four of us dined at The Stables one hot evening in June 2018, two of us had been several times before, even though it had been a while since we last visited.

We have visited the Stables on several occasions now and it is always lovely. Great food, the prawn and monkfish kebab was tasty and presented beautifully and the steaks are cooked exceptionally well as always. The only disappointment was that we were not able to leave a tip when paying by card, our servers worked really hard and were very attentive so it would have been nice to show appreciation with a tip. Will remember to bring cash in future.

My absolute favourite place.....wonderful food...great ambiance....the service is first class.....very friendly and always made to feel special. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and can promise you will love everything about your visit ❤️❤️❤️

Just back from our second visit to The Stables and enjoyed the Midweek Special, 2 courses for £17.95. Both the main course and dessert were beautifully presented. Will be back again soon.

Just back from an evening meal with a friend. We had the midweek special, 2 courses for £17.95. Beautifully presented meals, along with a rhubarb and ginger beer gin, just lovely.It's a really quaint place with a nice atmosphere, I will be returning very soon !!!

Great start to the evening with a range of Gin Fizz cocktails! However, the extensive range of the menu is the real treat, especially as Tim, the chef, is happy to adapt all the recipes to accomodate GF requirements. The beetroot houmous and delicious olives were served with GF sweet potato tortillas and the Tiger Prawn risotto and Chicken ballotine main courses were adapted accordingly. Delightful atmosphere and delicious food, thank you so much!

It is around 20 years since I was last in this restaurant and no doubt it has changed hands since. We were part of a party of 8 and I must admit the food was very good, choice of wines and drinks more than adequate. There are about 30 covers so it is an intimate restaurant servicing some great food.

Six of us ate here on a Saturday evening and it was such a great night! The food was superb and the service from Michelle was great. We loved the cocktails and the wine was excellent. Prices were so reasonable! We will be back!

From the instant that we stepped in to this restaurant I could tell that it was going to be good. We were shown to an excellent table for 2 in the window, which was perfect. The waitress was friendly and attentive and told us about all of the specials on the menu and special gin cocktails that were been served too!

A small quaint place but with excellent food and service.

We were visiting the area and so this was our first visit. We were very welcomed and given the time we needed to look through the menu, which offered so much choice at very reasonable prices. We went for a lamb dish and a marlin dish, which were both cooked to perfection. So many beautiful flavours and presented excellently. We would highly recommend you visit. Mum and Dad had booked the whole place to celebrate their anniversary and it was wonderful! The food was amazing especially the steaks. The restaurant was cozy and the staff really went out of their way to make the night special. Will be returning very soon!!!

Booked the stables for a private 50th wedding celebration! Michelle and her daughter did a fantastic job looking after our party of 24 ,after a bit of jiggling they arranged the tables into 1 long table! Absolutely perfect! They were on the ball all night , nothing was to much trouble! It was amazing how Tim the chef managed to serve all the meals at once ! Everybody was eating at the same time. The meals were all lovely , quite a few fillets all done to perfection! As the were rest of the meals ! The choice of background music was brilliant! Visited this restaurant for the first time a couple of weeks ago. The restaurant is small and quite rustic in decor. The food however is on another level. A smallish menu with some unusual dishes including both fish and meat options. I had the honeyed goats cheese tart which had very light puff pastry and totally delicious. My main course was lamb three ways and was a herb crusted lamb chop together with a lambs liver pudding and slow cooked lamb shoulder. The main courses are accompanied by a selection of perfectly cooked mixed vegetables. Service was good. Will certainly be returning

There was a a Warm welcome from the start. We were not rushed at all throughout our visit and were made to feel like our custom was really valued. Food was super - hot and plentiful, very well presented and delicious. This is certainly not a chain restaurant!

We had a superb evening at this beautiful intimate restaurant last week with live music from Jeremy Sassoon.

Excellent first meal at the Stables for our Wedding Anniversary. Opted for the Specials Menu having the delicious lamb shank and the pork sausages on champ followed by white chocolate brulee and the chocolate brownie. Even though we were the last couple in the restaurant we still were able to have a coffee liquor and not rushed to leave even talking to Tim and his wife. We will definitely be visiting again soon.

My wife and I dined here for our Anniversary. We asked for a quiet romantic table and sat at Table 10 by the window.

What a wonderful experience we had............this is the 1st time we have had our Christmas Dinner outside our home, we took my sister & husband .............. everything was perfect, compliments to everyone.

Having never been before, I didn't know what to expect, so I was totally unprepared for the decor, the choice of menu and the quality of food and it's presentation!! Outstanding! All very reasonably priced too!

We came here today after a 45 minute drive from Warrington ( due to traffic) was a little dubious with it being an a la carte menu as i myself am fussy with new foods but i must admit i was far from disappointed. I opted for garlic bread with cheese for the starter, trio of pork for the mains and créme brulee for the dessert. My husband had pan fried shrimp, wild sea trout and the brandy snap basket. We had clear plates all round the chef clearly knew what he was doing with his food it was all cooked to perfection i could not fault a single item. Also not to forget the staff who were absolutely fantastic and checked back within a reasonable time to ensure everything was satisfactory and offered a refill on drinks as soon as they became low, the two ladies in tonight were very friendly and made you feel welcome at all times during our visit. This was our first visit to the restaurant and we will certainly be returning again. Thanks to all staff and chefs for a lovely evening.

We have regularly used this restaurant for lunches and they are superb but the breakfast we had today was not good. The bacon and sausage were deep fried and the eggs were over done with hard yolks. The mushrooms were bitter and all in all in was a huge disappointment. I will carry on with the lunches but avoid breakfast in the future.

I have eaten here loads of times. Tim the Chef/Owner cooks the most wonderful food, I've tried all sorts of dishes and each and every time they are cooked to perfection. Great atmosphere as the staff are also great. Top Marks Tim and the gang.

We had never been to this place before but will definitely be returning!my husband and I chanced it on our anniversary which was a tuesday as our booked restaurant let us down. We opted for the set menu and could not believe the choice and quality of food. Loved the chopped salad with olives thrown in! For that price we will be bringing the kids next time! Such a treat and a lovely husband and wife team running the show. Loved it.

Jazz/soul night... Brilliant. Musician was excellent. The food? Absolutely amazing! Goat samosas and scotch egg starters awesome; then fillet rossini and lamb 3ways... Just Michelin quality mains! Couldn't do dessert but the choices were bafflingly brilliant!This restaurant should be on King St but don't tell everyone.... We want to be able to book again! The cherry on the cake....I forgot my glasses and the waitress offered some readers!! Brilliant! Thanks Stables.

This is a little gem in a sea of self proclaimed "Gastro Pubs" this restaurant stands way above the rest no competition in the locality at all. Food alway fresh cooked to an outstanding level whether lunch or evening meal.

Went here last night, food is excellent , well cooked homemade fayre. We had Steak, homemade chips, chicken 3 ways & pork , plus 2 appitisers & starter of pan fried prawns. Good wine list & peroni on tap! Waitresses are great too. Nothing was too much trouble.Well done the stables we will be returning in the week.

Had another GREAT meal at Stables . This time a dover sole special ..absolutely delicious .Always have a great meal every time we go to Stables , they never let us down. Very good food and excellent service . looking forward to going to the Jazz night this Thursday ..24th April . sure it will be a good night out .

This formerly good restaurant is now just a disappointing shadow of its former self, scraping by on a reputation they acquired back when there was still some effort and imagination going into the food and the service. This was the first time I’ve visited on a Sunday, despite having eaten here more times than I can remember, and it was also my first visit since it’s been refurbished. Unfortunately, the refurbishment has stripped the restaurant of any character and charm it once had. It also appears they have added more seating room to what was already a crowded restaurant. The result of this avaricious tactic is that, even as a thin person, squeezing into your seat or trying to get up can be a struggle, so you’ll likely have to ask people on neighbouring tables to move to allow you to manoeuvre, which is completely unacceptable. The seating issue is clearly the result of the owners trying to extract every sliver of profit they can from the restaurant, a theme that continues with the food.A few years ago, if you visited The Stables you were assured a good meal; however, nowadays a visit here guarantees forgettable, bland and unimaginative food, lazily thrown together and service which is slow and half-hearted at best.On this particular occasion, the starter main and desert I chose were the Pâté, the Salmon Fishcakes and a Lemon Posset with Raspberry Crumble. Both the main and desert were very disappointing. The Salmon Fishcakes were not only dry and bland, but paired with roast potatoes, which were also arid and tasteless. I’d have sent it back if it wasn’t for the fact I was there to celebrate a friends birthday and didn’t want to make a scene. Clearly, the only reason my main including those potatoes was convenience, as the vast majority of guests where there to be subjected to a generic Sunday lunch, not because the Chef thought this odd and lazy pairing would be enjoyable.My disappointingly minuscule Lemon Posset and Raspberry Crumble, was so small the spoon provided wouldn’t fit in the tiny glass pot, meaning I had to ask the waitress for a tea spoon. It also arrived with no crumble, though did have several red crumbs on the top that lacked any discernible Raspberry flavouring.The only part of my meal which didn’t disappoint was the Pâté, that was delicious. It’s hard to believe the same individual responsible for the other lack lustre excuses for food, also prepared such a nice starter.Whether The Stables is now under new management or the old owners simply no longer care, whoever owns this place should be ashamed of themselves, as their merciless profiteering has ruined a lovely restaurant.I just hope none of my family or friends see fit to drag me here again.

As The Stables is local to me, I have visited many times. I would always recommend to book in advance, Friday/Saturdays especially get busy and sometimes are booked out for private functions. If you are going as a couple there is a cute seat in the window which is perfect for romantic evenings. I have never been disappointed in the menu or service and recently the menu has changed. There is food for everyone, whether you are vegetarian, meat eater or just fancy fish/shellfish. They have great value mid week offers and specials.All mains come with veg and potatoes so if you want chips you have to pay a little extra. The price for a fillet steak is exceptional value as I've been to steakhouses where I've paid double and not enjoyed as much. So a couple of pounds extra for chips is fine by me. This is only a small place with around 20-30 covers so be patient for the food as its all prepared freshly and understandably there isn't an abundance of tables, so if you want the table longer, make them aware and I'm sure they'll try to cater where possible. It does occasionally get a little tight for space but it's all part of the atmosphere and a great evening.Enjoy

My wife and I recently dined at the stables,we were greeted by the waitress and promptly seated at our reserved table.Both the starters and main courses were cooked perfectly and very enjoyable .A mix up with my choice of main was dealt with quickly and without drama,all in all a great dining experience,highly recommended and we will be back .

My husband & I visited The Stables on Saturday 18/3/2017. This was our second visit as we came on 21/2/2017 for my birthday and enjoyed it so much that we thought we would revisit.We were given a booking time of 18:30 and asked if we needed the table for the full evening,which we didn't,but we were not made aware of a deadline to leave.The meal was very nice,but as soon as our mains were cleared away we were asked if we wanted to order desserts,which we felt rushed by. We had our desserts and were being watched over by the waitress,who cleared the plates as soon as my last mouthful was eaten,and could she bring us our bill.She asked if we were aware our table was only available to us until 19:45,which we were not. She said she felt bad about this and wished people were told this.To be expected to have a 3 course meal in 1 hour 15 minutes is quite poor,especially when customers are not notified of this. We were dictated by the speed of service and felt completely unwelcome.This ruined our evening and we will not be returning or recommending the restaurant to any friends again.

We used The Stables for a family celebration after passing the place on our way through Gee Cross. What a very pleasant surprise. This is by far the best restaurant in the area, we were greeted by very professional and friendly staff, their service was impeccable throughout our visit. The menu was innovative and varied, something for everyone. Most of our party ordered different dishes and each said their food and wine was delicious-apparently Lamb Wellington is the best ever!

I've been here a couple of times over the years and have a mix of experiences. I went in February for lunch and had a lovely time, nice quiet and relaxing. Food was gorgeous. On Sunday it was very crowded, too many tables so people couldn't really move much. It is a good job your waitresses are skinny. The starters was lovely 8/10, my main 6/10-the fish cakes were great but there was no sauces so very dry dish and the potatoes it came with were burnt. The dessert was not to my taste really very sickly, but I know my mother in law loves it and always has it so this may just be me. The beer is extortionate, £4.50 for a pint! This is incredibly unnecessarily expensive. Your waiting staff do not appear very happy. I never see them smile and it took 25 minutes to receive our drinks with one drink being forgotten.

I attended for a meal on a Friday evening with family after word of mouth. I was not disappointed; the place is small and intimate. The staff was great and the food was excellent. I went for the Rib eyed steak and one of my party was a vegetarian. We had no complaints about the food or service. I believe you have to book so there is no hurry to leave. We had wine with the meal and afterwards stayed for after meal drinks. I will defiantly be returning to this place.

Booked this restaurant for a change based on good reviews. On arrival we were told there was no option to have a steak with chips as they all came with veg and potatoes. Chips were £2.25 extra. After wondering if I'd gone back to the 70s I decided on a beef wellington instead. The starters arrived and were nice. I was hopeful. The beef wellington arrived and as I tried to cut through it, I realised the pastry underneath was raw. I ate some of the beef and when I say ate, I gnawed through it. Not wanting to be a awkward I tried another piece but drew the line when I realised I could have rolled the pastry again and made something else with it. The waitress in question was lovely and took it back to be remade. By this point my friend had eaten their meal alone and then had to sit there when mine finally arrived back and watch me eat alone. The meat was better but the pastry was again raw. Or slightly less raw to be fair but still - inedible on the bottom. The beef wellington itself cost £22 so when the bill came and no offer of courtesy was with it, I asked the very patient waitress to talk to the manager. He sent her out, obviously too cowardly to face the music himself, and let a young girl have to face disgruntled customers and tell them he was unwilling to subsidise the cost because I ate some of the first dish. He said half. It was 2 mouthfuls. We didn't cause a fuss because that poor girl was in the firing line. Probably his tactic. All I can say is you thoroughly deserve this review and under no circumstances will I ever come back or recommend you to anyone. The food could be forgiven but your attitude was a disgrace.

All the staff were brilliant ..all the food from the canapés to the desserts were delicious.Everyone enjoy the choice of menu and no-one waited for a drink (thanks to the girls) .

Great menu, nice choice of some classic dishes. Recommend the steaks and string fries.Only small dining area but good enough for small groups.Nice draft lagers...Think they do a steak night. Please check 1st.

Myself and three friends go out frequently for meals. We decided to try here for our Christmas meal. The Christmas menu was lovely and well worth the money. Everybody loved the food that they got. The atmosphere was welcoming and all of us enjoyed our visit. Would definitely go again. I've been before and the food has always been lovely.

Personally as a vegetarian I sometimes struggle to find a meal which isn't tasteless, however my veggie lasagne was a pleasant surprise!! The atmosphere was lovely and welcoming as well as my waitress who was attentive to our every need! I would highly recommend this to other friends just as it was recommended to me!

Nice atmosphere which was good because the service was really slow. Food was average and if you want a dessert you will have to wait for the one board with what's on offer to be passed around the tables!

The restaurant was so cold we kept our coats on throughout the meal. The passageway between our table and the next was so narrow I had to keep moving my chair. The pate starter was a good starter, but the main course: One of us couldn't eat the pork it was so tough and fatty, one of us left 3/4 of the lamb as it was so tough, one of us ate the very tough beef at the cost of indigestion. All the raost potatoes were inedible (underdone). The cauliflower cheese was nice. The deserts were uninspiring although nicely presented.Overall a very poor experience and I am stunned by the other reviews and think we must just have has a bad visit (I hope).

Had the mid week table d'hote menu, was spoilt for choice. Settled for the pate & plaice, both of which were excellent. As good, if not better than much higher priced " in vogue" restaurants nearer to Manchester. Will definately be returning.

We went to the restaraunt on Friday night it was quite busy but not full the choice of food is excellent the majority of our party had lamb Wellington and they all said it was excellent. The pork fillet was beautiful, 2 ladies had steak and they both enjoyed it. There are always lots of potatoes and vegetables to go round for everyone. The food is always well presented and piping hot.The choice of desserts are excellent and the service is always very good. Please try this place it's well worth a visit
