Back in July ordered 2 burgers and drinks after 2 hours got our money back as we still hadn’t received them after asking where our food was twice. Thought I would give them a second chance and booked a table for 5 on 22nd December again the service was snail pace which is shocking considering the pup was virtually empty and the food wasn’t worth the wait, in the end we cancelled desserts, as i think Santa was going to arrive first 3 days later.

Food was fine, service was missing, and it's definitely NOT a place I would ever take a business client to again. It was really the small things that made the difference - or not! First of all - I was taking a client out to lunch, so I wanted them to have the best experience. They chose your xmas menu (turkey) and requested cranberry sauce (twice). It didn't arrive. Client said how much she loves it and that it would have made all the difference - but by then she was 1/2 way through, and although I was going to ask again, she said "don't bother". The next thing that happened was the after dinner coffees. Amazingly mine turned up - without a teaspoon. The waitress disappeared off before we could request one - and by the time she had returned with my client's coffee - I was stirring my own coffee with the handle of a fork!!!! It was very obvious. She didn't offer a spoon, just put the other coffee down and went off. Fortunately my client doesn't take sweeteners/sugar so she didnt' need a spoon/fork or I'd have gone in search for the waitress. It just wasn't great. And my client even pointed out that the Pub could do with some customer service training. (At no point did any waitress come back to check on food at any time, or we'd have said again about the cranberry sauce, and teaspoons).

The evening staff are lovely. They engage and look at you whilst serving. The housekeeping is very good, and the room I was in was extremely quiet. I did find the bathroom small. We have stayed in this hotel and had an evening meal. Firstly the room, very nice and spacious with a very comfortable bed. I slept like a baby. The only constructive criticism I would have is to replace the seal in the shower or clean it deeply. And the meal was amazing. Delicious and presented well. As a vegetarian I ordered camembert fritters and they were crunchy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. Very nicely spiced. And for the main I had an aubergine gratin and it was to die for. Really yummy. The only feedback I would have is my watercress with fritters didn't look fresh and it wasn't vital to the meal. I would just serve it without. My husband had sticky chicken for a starter and burger for main and he was happy with everything. But to be honest for the price we paid it was a great meal. And the menu states calories for each dish, which I thought it was amazing.

Overall very Friendly and welcoming. Downside classic Uk food servings, as in small and in ramekin/ dishes on plates to ‘pad’ things out, and little substance to the lasagna which was mainly sauce. Breakfast disappointing, as extras like toast and porridge all over and above the cooked breakfast allowance on a three figure B&B package for the night, which seemed a bit mean IMV, but I suspect a growing UK trend.

My partner and I booked three nights at the George , planning to go and see some friends. Unfortunately the car we were driving it's clutch burnt out and we had to cancel the whole trip. We had been recommended we stay at the George, and after the problem with the car we had to abandon the trip and get the AA to tow is all the way back home to West Sussex, a journey that took us twelve hours. We immediately contacted the George and they told us we had to phone the bookings, which we did, hoping to get some sympathetic response. Instead we just had a rude reply, telling us there was nothing they could do as we had booked a particular price and there was nothing they would do. I am astonished at this response, particularly because a) we had been recommended staying there, and B) the circumstances were none of our making When we finally attempt a return we will DEFINITELY not be booking again at the George. The company on the phone were completely uncaring, and as a result we have lost £200. If either of us had died whilst we were there I assume the response would have been the same . I will tell the people who had recommended the George to us and suggest they change their minds in future.

Booking: The initial booking went well, but amendments to the booking were ignored. On the morning of the visit I tried to amend the booking. I completed the online form which brought no response. I phoned the number on the website and was put through to the pub, but no one answered. I left a voicemail but no one returned my call. Despite having specified a dog friendly table on the initial booking I received a text on the morning of my visit asking if we were taking a dog. I was unable to respond (see above). Service: Clearly my messages had not got through to the person allocated to seat us. I explained the difficulties I had experienced but received no apology. We were left standing around until a table was finally found for us. We ordered drinks but I had to chase them up at the bar having waited for about half an hour. We were told that there was no draught ale as it was 'settling'. Having run a pub in the past, I know that this can only be due to poor management. Food: The food was acceptable. Not a great birthday lunch.

It was not a good visit. Several of the dishes on the menu were unavailable. Our table was sticky. The waitress was overly-familiar. One of the young male waiters looked terrified every time we asked him a question, as though he didn't know what he was doing. Our desserts did not automatically come with cutlery - we had to ask for it. The waitress could not personally recommend any of the desserts because she hadn't tried them. However it was easy to book online, and the food was quite tasty. The chocolate brownie was very nice.

Friendly and Pub with a homely atmosphere 🌟 We visited the St George and Dragon in the summer holidays during quieter hours and was treated to friendly service and food that was well cooked and plentiful in portion, but perhaps lacking a bit of spice and flavour. We had the two courses for £16 which worked out as a very good deal for the food we had. The pizza was fresh and appeared to be homemade but had little toppings on top. The calamari was bland and the chips were not soft and fluffy and were rather chewy. We were left waiting for service on multiple occasions and it appeared that we had been forgotten about at the end of our meal and chose to leave as opposed to having another drink or dessert as planned. 🌟 Recommendations: Homemade Pizza ⛔️ Drawbacks: Sevice was slow, bland food overall 🦑 Squid Rating: 6/10 🌟🌟🌟/ 5 Stars

Three meals ordered, 3 times cooked chips were hard and not edible. Fish batter very dark, perhaps an oil change needed. Mac and Cheese, claggy, symptomatic of micro wave cooking. Prawns and Chorizo dish, chorizo was rubbery. Having had really good value food here in the past this was an extremely disappointing visit. The person in charge apologised profusely and did not charge for the food. This was gratefully accepted but doubt I shall choose to return unfortunately. We had a booking on Saturday for 6:30pm. Hardly anyone in the pub, now we know why... My mum asked for the lamb rump dish but that was not available, so she had to have fish and chips. We wanted rib eye steak which they had however if you wanted sirloin they didn't have it but that's ok because we ordered what we originally wanted. However, they didn't have peppercorn sauce either... on a Saturday evening. The steaks came out and 1 was a sirloin steak, but they denied it, they clearly don't know steak because the size, shape, fat areas and texture was sirloin. So we paid for a rib eye and got sirloin. Which was over cooked as was my 'rib eye.' The bearnaise sauce we had to have as no peppercorn was vile... I mean it was a hollandaise with tarragon put in it. The fish and chips my mum had didn't seem fresh and the batter was THICK to the point where she couldn't eat it because it wasn't cooked. We know the manageress had been supporting in the kitchen due to chef issues, but clearly no one knows what they are doing there. You pay alot for an awful meal. There's no care from the manager, my mum even cut her lip on a chip in the wine glass and although the waitress asked for the drink to be free for us, there was no sign of apology from the manageress or any presence of her. As a manager myself, I'd of personally come over to my mum to ensure she wasn't hurt. Service from the staff were generally miserable especially the faces on them. Except for Tracy. She was hilarious and I'd love to see her again. Unfortunately we'd been here pre covid and loved it so came back on Saturday as a treat when visiting my mum. But we will not be returning again, so many more pub resturants across Devon to try, you need to up your game.

Nice enough pub but I'm sure the portion sizes have gone down. Wife ordered mac cheese and got a thin layer in a tiny bowl and a huge salad. Similar situation with my lasagne.

A great overnight stay on route to St Ives. A lovely warm welcome, great food, comfy bed, clean room and a fantastic breakfast cooked to order. Would highly recommend.

We regularly go here for a meal. The food and service are excellent. They cater well dietary needs (gluten and dairy at least). Roasts are excellent but so is all their food we have tried. You can bring your dog into parts of the restaurant and they are welcomed warmly! They have some lovely large round tables which are great if you have a few of you. And also some more tucked away small tables if you want some quiet. You can stay here. We never have as we are local but it looks a lovely place to stay.

The staff were lovely and the breakfasts and evening meal were great. The hotel has seen better days, but we had a large room with a great view, and the gardens were impressive and well kept.

I was treated to a Long table Feast by my family as a birthday present. It was great from start to finish. Picked up from car park to ride down in Land Rover. Shown to table and sat alongside other special diet customers. Such a relief to be able to enjoy a meal without worry of eating things I shouldn’t. The menu contained some things that were new to me and were all enjoyed. The icing on the cake was to go and meet Chiara in the kitchen. What a lovely and talented young lady she is. Thank you everyone for such a special evening.

Popped in on a Sunday afternoon to watch the football while staying locally. Looked a bit tired and perhaps the staff would have rather been somewhere else. Big and spacious, I’m sure it would be great on a Saturday night! I always think it’s a bit short sighted, a pub not selling a real ale (this is why public houses came into existence) but if you like fizzy keg drinks it’s ok.
