The Square Orange Cafe Bar in Allerdale

We had a great meal here while we were in Keswick for a few days. I’m newly diagnosed as celiac so was great that nearly everything was without gluten. They didn’t have any gluten free bread to go with the tapas but was asked if I wanted some nachos and if I wanted them separate from the bread ( which husband had) which was great. We had the nachos and three tapas between us and liked it all. We were lucky that we got a table straight away even though there were a few in. We would definitely eat here again. Husband said he would try a pizza .

Had the tapas. I had the stuffed mozzarella and my wife had the potatoes. We also had the nachos with chilli and a side of olive oil and bread. All of the food was gorgeous and great value. We will come again and I will have the pizza next time, as they looked amazing. Also they’re dog friendly and accommodated us despite the size of ours.

Early evening tapas whilst staying in Keswick. 5 tapas was enough between two and all were great. Service was friendly and including 2 drinks it came to under £40. Great food, great value. What’s not to like?

Amazing little place with fantastic food and atmosphere! You can’t book but if you’re prepared to wait you can always get a table! Dog friendly! Great selection of tapas and yummy pizzas!

We visited on 11 January. We shared a pizza, some of the fabulous meat balls, the vine leaves and some hummus. It was all lovely and the staff friendly and efficient as usual. I'm looking forward to my next visit.

Total rip off this place I’d just come up from London where I was paying £5 for mulled wine in a pub, then in Keswick at SO I was paying £5.90?! How can this be reasonable. Wine was even that good or very hot, not a fan of how it was served in a normal wine glass as it was hard to hold

We have eaten tapas in many places around Europe but the choice and quality at the Square Orange beats them all. Add to that the friendly and efficient service from Adam and his small but hard working team meant that we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Note that the place is smallish and you may have to wait for a table but it will be worth it. We can recommend the Chorizo, Baked Camembert, Figs, Patatas Bravas and the Christmas special, Pigs in Blankets, all beautifully prepared by Luke the Chef. Each dish came with lots of crusty bread to mop up the delicious sauces. All in all, an eggselent meal and we shall certainly return to the Square Orange.

We ended up in Keswick last Saturday night when we could not get to our accommodation in Windermere because of the snow! The square orange was amazing. We didn’t have to wait long for a table and the food was super delicious tasty. The staff were really good with our son too. What a great find in Keswick! We were lucky enough to find somewhere to stay too!

Small compacted restaurant, tapas and pizza, managed to get a table without queuing. Good choice of food and drinks with quick service. We sat by the door and within 5 mins of our food coming there was people standing next to our table queuing. Which was a little off putting. As I said food was great, but suggest go at quiet time or dont sit by the door.

Great pizza, great tapas great atmosphere. Small venue with a great atmosphere, it’s very cosy with friendly staff. We had a pizza each and shared 3 tapas dishes and it was all great.

Absolutely love The Square Orange, a must visit when in Keswick. From morning coffee through to the end of the day this is the place to eat and drink. We have been before so knew what to expect but its a great place to visit. So relaxing and a complete mix of different people. Staff all friendly and service is attentive. I honestly don't know how they get so much great food out of such a small space. Tapas and pizza, perfectly cooked. Simply delicious. Also if you cannot get in straight away (you cannot reserve tables) there is a little seating area in the back where you can just wait with a drink.

Outstanding Tapas and atmosphere. We decided to give this place a try last night. I’d only ever stopped in for a couple of beers in the past. We were greeted really well and offered a couple of table to choose from. Then we ordered 6 tapas dishes to share. It was all amazing. Really enjoyed the prawns, the mushrooms, the cheese in honey. But it was all fantastic. I probably wouldn’t order the pizzas in here though. They looked great but I’m not a fan of thin and crispy, that’s my personal preference though. We will definitely be back sometime as it was all so good. Great service as well and super reasonable pricing.

Called at the Square Orange on the off chance of getting a walk in table as it was fully booked, first impressions we were greated by a young gentleman (chris)was very polite and helpful, took us to our table gave us a little time and came back to take our order. We started with the nachos loaded with pulled pork didn't get a photo as we got stuck right in. Then came the tapas we order loads and it did not disappoint every mouthful was divine. We will definitely be back with friends next time. Thankyou

Visited day after everything re-opened, was curious as to how they would manage social distancing as it is a very small restaurant, however it was done very well with screens between tables. The food was delicious as ever, it was fully booked so had a good atmosphere and we were the last customers to leave but weren't rushed out.

Ate here today and everything was great. Lovely staff, wonderful pizzas and amazing coffee. The partitions between tables didnt detract from the experience at all, in fact we liked the privacy of the booths. Nice to come back and enjoy it as much as we did pre-lockdiwn. Well done.

Always visit the square orange when we are in the lakes. It’s such a charming place with incredibly friendly service and the food is also soo yummy.

I’ve missed the going out like everyone else - delighted to be in the Square Orange last night. Maybe absence makes the heart grow fonder but it was a treat. Excellent (and responsible) Covid precautions make the place safe and looking great but onto the food and drink. Draft beer from guest brewery in Carlisle, pizzas, vegan menu for my wife and tapas - all perfect.These folks need congratulating on reopening in the safest way and serving great pizzas - vegan, vegetarian, gf and, for me, meat and fish

Tapas was lovely and decently priced. Service was quite slow but we weren’t in a rush. The pizza did not taste good and hardly had any toppings, this was crazy over priced.

wet week walking in the lakes, dropped in for a quick bite to eat...chorizo, fennel and sausage roll was the best i have ever experienced...lovely welcome, dog friendly, cool decor, good music...a proper treat at the end of a great week... go to this cafe!!

We wondered how this cosy place would cope with Covid regulations but we were delighted to see that they are managing admirably. With screened booths and careful management of customers, it feels a safe place to be. Great to be able to book a table in advance as well. Well done to all at the Sq'orange.

The Square Orange is a long time favourite of ours. Great beers, food and atmosphere, almost feeling Flemish. We were concerned that Covid restrictions wuold have spoiled it, but delighted to report they've done a fantastic job of adapting to the new circumstances. As a bonus, you can finally book a table, rather than the inevitable long queue.

Just what we were looking for. A wide range of tasty tapas dishes and amazing cocktails. The tapas came with loads of bread to help mop up the cheese and leftover sauce. Staff were really friendly. Spent less in this place than in an Italian round the corner the night before which was nowhere near as nice. 100% would recommend.

Well done team! It’s been a long time since our last visit, the world may of changed but your lovely establishment, food and staff have not. Great updates to make both staff and customers safe. Thank you for a great evening.

I love this wee place. Small cosy booths. Off the scale pizza and tapas. Lovely wines and beers. The friendliest staff. Cosy lighting. And super safe. A really special place to switch off and relax after a day on the fells! Can’t recommend it enough!

Excellent service, amazing delicious food. We have been several times now and it never disappoints. COVID restrictions in place, we felt very safe.

They have gone to great lengths to make the cafe / bar covid safe (Its somewhere we have been many times before and I though it would be very hard for them to make it covid safe). Throughly enjoyed our visit, the tapas was great and the service excellent. One of our favourite places to visit while stopping in Keswick.

Although we had no booking we stopped by just walking past. We were greeted by a friendly member of staff who informed they did have space for walk ins, dropped by later and managed to get a table.Went for the tapas, the chorizo was really nice, would recommend. Garlic mushrooms were a bit disappointing.Would come back, food was good and staff very hardworking and attentive.

Fantastic as always, great food & service. The girl serving us could not do enough, checking we were ok, if we needed anything etc. The Covid arrangements work well & we felt safe. As always the food was delicious. Can’t wait to come back!

We visited on a Wednesday evening at 19:30hrs, we had booked a few weeks prior as it was a birthday meal. We were a party of five and happy to attend.We all elected to dine on sumptuous “Tapas” dishes, although to start some ordered cocktails whilst others partook of some of the lovely beers which are on Draft! I ordered Piri Piri King Prawn , potato Bravatis, whole baked camembert, & Parton Peppers. All were lovely and the whole table we very complimentary to the severed food.I was very impressed with the staff, who were excellent and very efficient, even lithely hoping over two or our dogs who had migrated from under the table to being in the main gang way! #sorryaboutthatIn Covid 19 terms the Square Orange Rocks, and they are very organised, and even operate a engaged / vacate (plane type) light system for the Loos to avoid people forming a que! Will return in 2021!

Very covid aware from the minute you enter but it in no way detracts from the fantastic service or chilled out ambiance. Ee had pizza- which was stunning - and a range of tapas. The tapas and garlic pizza bread were a delight. Great service.

We happened open this little place by chance- and so happy that we did. We were made to feel very welcome, even though we hadn’t booked they fitted us in. Their Covid procedures are simple and effective, and we saw clear evidence that they are following their good practices rigorously. The food (we had tapas) was delicious, amongst the best we’ve had. Definitely one to list for a return visit!

Booked a table and on arriving we were promptly shown to our table. All Covid measures in place. Food and drinks were awesome. Superb background music which created a great atmosphere. Reasonably priced. Dog friendly. Top marks from all of us.

Vine a Keswick para una mini estancia (4 noches). Planeé todo con anticipación ya que no estaba seguro de cuán ocupado estaría. ¡Me alegro de haberlo hecho! Comimos en Square Orange (o s’quarange, como se le conoce localmente) la primera noche, según las recomendaciones de este sitio web. No nos decepcionó. El personal era muy amable y muy servicial y tuvimos una comida excelente. Compartimos "cuatro tapas" mixtas seguidas de una deliciosa pizza y eso estuvo bien. Las tapas eran muy generosas y la pizza deliciosa, ligera y crujiente, así que todo salió a la perfección. Sin duda volveremos cuando esté en Keswick.

The restaurant was warm and had great ambience. The food was delicious - ordered the vegan tapas and a marinara pizza. Kamil, our server, made us feel really looked after and made a brilliant experience even better. 5 stars.

Probé este lugar según las críticas altamente calificadas de la pizza, muy decepcionante. La base de la pizza era tan fina y quebradiza que era como comerse un poppadom. Muy soso y caro para la calidad. La peor pizza que he comido.

Visited this place last week, felt very safe with great covid protocols in place. The food was simple but tasty, a great selection of ales also available. Would highly recommend booking as it seemed to be all booked up.

Didn't have booking but managed to get a a walk in table. Food was delicious, had some tapas dishes and the nachos.

Lots of character. Excellent staff, very friendly. Good range of beer and wine. Food smelt and looked good, will give that a try next time. Well worth a look.

Lovely place and quite quirky, don’t wish to give anywhere a hard time right now and wish you well, tapas offering a little bland but enjoyed the experience

Lovely ambience and lovely staff. Ate here twice in a week. Both times, they accommodated us without a booking as they were nearly full ..the second time we had had a disastrous booking elsewhere on a birthday and were feeling really down. Staff welcomed us in, cheered us up - sang happy birthday to my daughter and served us very generous portions of Tapas and wine. Can’t speak highly enough of them ..super! Quality of the food was excellent. Highly recommended. Cost less than the birthday tea we were planning even with the wine factored-in.

After a day walking nearby we, a family of four, two parents and two young adults, had a lovely early dinner here. The one vegan was very happy with the vegan menu. The menu is simple but it’s all tasty. The staff were efficient and the vibe is friendly and welcoming. We’d booked in advance which felt necessary as it’s small and busy. Nice craft ales too. Covid protocols were thorough.

Each time we visit the lakes, this square orange cafe is a must visit for us. We usually get order the pizzas, which we have always been impressed with. Today we called on the chance there may be a free table, we were easily accommodated for drinks, for 7 adults and a child. The hot chocolate was the best I’ve probably ever had. Staff were very attentive and careful with social distancing guidance. Upon arrival they advise you about toilet access, with a light that shows when the toilet is available to use, therefore minimising queues. The menu is also available online, to reduce multiple people touching paper menus. Screens have been careful designed and in place between tables for hygiene, yet still in line with the quirky style of the cafe with cute fairy lights.Although this post may sound like I’m ocd with the covid restrictions, as a nurse who has worked through the pandemic, it was brilliant to see how the orange cafe has taken on board the safe precautions, as not many other places have these high standards. Well done, excellent service.

The food at the Orange has always been good but they are taking the social distancing very seriously. Screens have been erected between the tables, they regulate who is coming in and going out - and the staff wear facemasks. Hardly anywhere else in Keswick does this. The booking system is efficient and the staff are attentive without being overbearing. Still the best in town...

Despite social distancing The Square Orange continue to provide and excellent experience. Great food and drinks and outstanding service! Thank you for another great night.

This was a great find and I'd definitely recommend it! Great atmosphere, friendly and efficient service, lovely and quirky decor and great drinks and food. It is amazing what the chef can produce in a compact space. Good options for vegetarians. Would definitely visit again if we were in the area - try and book ahead if possible though as it is popular and gets busy quickly! It calls itself a bar but that is underselling the tasty pizzas and tapas. Loved the mango mocktail too.

The food was great, especially the nachos and the pizzas which were amazing! The staff were lovely - very welcoming and helpful.

Great place to stop by after having dinner at the nearby George hotel. Waiter was welcoming and friendly. Even though it was 9.30 and they close at 10pm, we were seated and served some very excellent coffees cider and beer. Well done to the team you've got the customer service absolutely spot. Thank you.

We were looking forward to returning The Square Orange after visiting last year. Maybe an off-day this time around though. Pizzas were well-cooked and wonderfully crispy but the base and toppings lacked a bit of seasoning and flavour. An extra pinch of salt and a dash of garlic oil in the tomato sauce would have done wonders.

Food is amazing - we had a pizza and 4 tapas dishes which were super tasty. They have Leffe on draught which is one of my favourite drinks so no surprise we were in 3/4 nights! Staff are really friendly and helpful. I can’t fault this place and it’s great so see the thought they have put into extra measures!

We love the Square Orange. The staff are helpful, food is good and the atmostphere is relaxing. But a small bottle of Anchor Porter at over £5:00 is extortionate. The micro pubs we frequent are no more than £4:00 and still make a good profit. Come guys we love coming here but over £20:00 for four small bottles is a future concern.

We enjoyed a lovely family meal here - tapas / nachos & pizza! The food was great (the best we had during our stay in Keswick), the restaurant had a great atmosphere & had put in good safety measures to ensure cleanliness & social distancing!

Booked a table for a night out. We did the four appetizers deal, a pizza, drinks and dessert and it was all fantastic! Lots of vegetarian options for myself and I know they had vegan options as well! Great wine list, nice dessert and really good service, highly recommend!

Was looking forward to our visit having booked for lunch. The restaurant wasn't busy but we were sat at the bar rather than a table. The service was slow. My pizza was fine but I have regularly had better. My partner's Nacho's were under cooked. Having read the previous reviews, we were hoping for better but left disappointed.

On 8th aug, my husband daughter and I called in for a drink. All I can say is what a shining example on how to make an establishment feel safe but still retain its charm. Each table is partitioned off but it has been done with style and thought. Thank you for making it still such a lovely experience and thinking of the safety and comfort of your clientele.

As always the service, food and coffee was excellent but what realy stood out was the Covid secure measures adopted at the square orange.During lockdown they have certainly been busy installing attractive but effective screening between seating.Staff wear masks and are very informed. We were politely and professionally briefed on the measures and procedures in place when we arrived.As someone who owns a business and has had to implement measures myself I have been realy disappointed in most cafes and restaurants understanding of the guidance but at the square orange i can actually relax.The behaviour and professionalism of the staff is superb. Well done guys, it's hard work done very well.

This fabulous cafe bar has always been one of our absolute favourites when visiting Keswick . This was our first visit after lockdown and it was brilliant. We felt very safe and very well looked after by Jenna and her colleagues. The changes gave been very tastefully done and decorated with twinkly lights .Beautiful. Food as great as ever , can't beat the Tapas and Natchos. Looking forward to visiting again in the next few weeks. Well done folks !

This place was on the list of recommended bars/restaurants where we were staying in Keswick. We booked online and we were not disappointed. When we arrived we were taken straight to the table. Tables were socially distanced. Waitress was really welcoming and pleasant. Good selection of beers on tap, including a local lager and good wine selection - we had the 2nd Italian red on the list - lovely. Food was great. We had the tapas to start and then pizza for a main. No live music at the moment but the atmosphere was still good. Overall the bar/restaurant has a unique feel to it - the food (pizzas in particular), the drinks, the look. Would highly recommend and would definitely go back.

In the midst of a pandemic I must congratulate this eatery for pulling it out if the bag. If this current climate has done anything it's shown how creative this place has been. I love everything about it. The new eating booths, the rope and bell at the door plus the online table booking at least I know we will get a seat as this place is very popular. The food as always is second to none. The staff always helpful and friendly. Just love it.

Fabulous meal in the Square Orange tonight. So much work has been done there to ensure people are and feel safe - from the separation of the tables by hard barriers, the creation of a unisex toilet with lit signage to tell you if it was occupied and prevent queuing and staff, masked, polite yet ever so friendly. The gents toilet has gone, replaced by two safe table bays and they’ve opened up the fireplace, creating more table space, and I love the rope barrier and bell across the entrance. Booking is now advised as they are offering time slots - a necessary sign of the times -the polite thing is to order food as well - but that said the food is as good as ever. We were part of a larger group that ordered across the menu (which can now be seen via an online app), and ordered the tapas - which were terrific and accompanied by several bottles of “Primitivo’. - imported direct from the vineyard in Puglia. Desserts have now been added to the menu - we had Tiramisu and Creme Brûlée which were excellent - and we were told that the Orange is looking at shortly producing it’s own home baked bread. In short a fantastic evening with great food, excellent service and good company. Really nice to see the “Squorange” open again in these vastly different times. As good as ever? Personally I think better. - and we will be back.

A lovely little dog friendly cafe. On this visit we had the tapas. We shared 3 dishes between 2 of us. The tortilla, tartifillet, & a prawn dish with were all lovely & served with some bread & dip.

This cafe bar is an absolute must of a place to go for a drink and/or food if you are in Keswick. My husband and I popped into this delightful place fairly late one evening at the beginning of our weeks stay in Keswick (7th March) and we were the only two in there. We stopped for a couple of drinks and got chatting to the staff - all of who are really friendly. This place has quirky stamped all over it and can fully understand why it has so many wonderful reviews. We got chatting to the staff about the walks we had been on and the ones we had planned for the rest of the week. It was lovely swapping stories with them. We got to meet the lovely Mary, apparently she visits this place most days. And oh my she has many delightful stories to tell about her life growing up.For the last night of our stay in Keswick we wanted to try the food here. We got a seat just after 6pm and the place was full, buzzing with lots of people from all ages. We both had freshly made pizza, and oh my one of the best pizzas I’ve ever tasted. We hadn’t planned on staying here all evening, but we got chatting to so many people (including Mary again) it was just the best way to finish off our week in Keswick. Even one of the regulars asked me how we had got on with our walks - a lovely chap that works in the local cycle shop. This absolute gem of a place has a real community feel about it, but they also welcome holiday makers with open arms. We have already booked to come back to Keswick next March and this place will be one we will certainly come back to.Thank you for making us feel so welcome

Another excellent meal, we had Chorizo, Morbier Tartiflette, Meatballs, Piri Piri King Prawns & Pizza special roasted Mediterranean vegetables. All delicious. Staff great, really friendly. Very efficient.

Lovely coffee, local roasters used which is always nice. Small quirky place with a nice atmosphere. Didn’t eat here but menu looked interesting. Would visit again.

So happy we decided to eat at the square orange cafe. Whenever I’ve walked past it is always busy... surely a good sign? We had pizza and tapas. The tapas was gorgeous and I’ll definitely be returning for more!! Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff, I would certainly recommend

It is quite a small place but don't let that put you off. Dogs are welcome as well which is always a bonus. The tapas was very tasty and they had a good selection. The nachos had plenty of topping so you weren't left with plain nachos. Would go again. 10/10

Went here as a group of 4 on a Saturday night, we shared 12 dishes between us and every single one was really nice. Good beer too, give it a go

Really nice little cafe with quirky decor and atmosphere. Only had coffee on this occasion but would definitely come back if in area.

In Keswick for a couple nights for my hubby's 50th and stopped in, now our favourite spot! Perfect place to relax, unwind and enjoy great food and drink. Spent few hours both afternoons here! Pizza is fab as are the nachos. Great selection of drinks. Can't recommend enough if you get lucky and find a seat!

Looking for somewhere not a chain for a morning coffee came across the square orange - lovely coffee, delicious pear and ginger loaf and friendly staff. Would definitely recommend - menu looked interesting too - will be back.

Whilst eating a late lunch of wonderfully tasty winter greens soup with ciabatta I did wonder if it was in their best interest to supply board games! We only just managed to get a seat in this little gem but did sit next to a couple in the middle of scrabble....there are only about 10 tables. We tried to eat there again Saturday dinner but no seats and no standing space at the bar. The scrabble board was out again though.

We called here with the intention of pre drinks before we went elsewhere for dinner, but when we saw the quality of the food coming out, we decided to bin off starters at the original booked restaurant and have them here instead. And they certainly did not disappoint.

A lovely little place to grab a snack! Quite, great location, great environment all round worth the stop!

This little gem was recommended by a friend for it's coffee but once we arrived we were struck by how lovely the tapas and pizzas looked. Ordered nachos which we shared and a lovely, cold beer. The decor is so quaint, the atmosphere very relaxed and attentive staff. We will definitely be here again.

Love the atmospheric great staff good food, on a personal note would recommend serving the olives like you use too and not with large pieces of garlic embedded in them. Highly recommend so will see you all on Saturday evening

Have the smoked haddock and leek dish if it's on; it's a sublime bowl full of flavour. Quite salty but so tasty. Just ask for a glass of water to have with it. They'll bring you extra bread too if you need any to mop up that delicious juice.

Went here as a friend recommended it. Definitely not disappointed. Lovely little place, very relaxing, great service and beautiful food. There is only about 6 tables and I don't think they take booking.
