The Spread Eagle in East Hampshire

Nice little country pub with a decent selection of beers. Unfortunately we were the only people there on a Sunday night. So sad.

Called in not long after opening, so very quiet and not much atmosphere. Service was quick, food was good, worth another visit.

Had a tasty meal on a quiet Saturday lunchtime. Reasonable choice of menu but the specials were good selection and we had tenderloin pork in a mushroom sauce. Friendly staff. Reasonable price.

First time being there and made me go in twice same day Very cosy and classic.

Popped in for an evening meal on the way to Goodwood. What a lovely little Gem. The welcome was warm and service efficient and the food was really tasty with good proportions. I definitely would come back again if I'm in the area.

I loved this place and the atmosphere. The bap, with very crunchy extra bacon was delicious.

Nice pub. Food was good, but just a little more garnish on the plate would cheer it up a bit. I had the veggie beetburger which was tasty.

I had gammon egg and chips quality was good but 1 slice of meat little bit tight for the price but service was good

Stopped off for a quick lunch having looked on Google Maps for a place to eat along the A3. Really glad we did. Food was lovely (can recommend the chicken caeser) and staff were really friendly. Will remember for next time passing.

Best pub in Liss! Good place for lunch, and for drinks in the evening (often after the local bell ringers practice, as has been tradition for many years).

we popped in for dinner half way from Gatwick airport to Bournemouth. loved how we were looked after. we love local pubs like this. food delicious and service really good. if we'll be in the area again we'll definitely pop in again.

Lovely hosts, well presented tasty meal, sensible prices. In other pubs I have recently been sadly disappointed, but this pub has restored my faith and will certainly return! Big garden and front decking for summer... definitely recommend.

Popped in for breakfast and just felt a little soulless the coffee was awful and just needs a little bit of music or something to warm up the setting. Lovely staff though and would go back as the garden is great!

Wow wow wow, what a fantastic pub and restaurant. Went here for my sisters birthday with the brother in law and my girlfriend. The staff were excellent ,friendly and welcoming. The place is fantastic and is very old with low beams and ceilings but outside was a lovely decked area which made it easier to navigate the entrance to the pub. We all had absolutely great meals and desserts. We all loved the place and we will definitely be going back again soon for another great evening out.

Had a great mothers day with the people from the Spread Eagle. The moose was to die for. All the staff are lovely and we come here regularly. It's our favourite place to eat

Back in march we celebrated my mums 80th here . We had a small room to ourselves which was lovely for my mum to have all the family seated together . Considering there was 14 of us to eat all the food came out together and was nice and hot and not one complaint, everyone complimented the food , lots of it , tasty and very good value for money . Staff were super helpful and friendly !! Will be back soon for some more pork belly 😋 thank you

Lovely sunday roast. We didn't book as we just rocked up spur of the moment. they squeezed us in. Would recommend booking, though, as it was busy. Lovely friendly vibe. Proper old pub. Play area outside for kids. Tight for parking as it was lunch time. Freindly chatty staff. Appreciated the smiles. Food was lovely sensible price. A little gem we stumbled across.

Haven't been there for very long time but went to meet friends and have a meal the staff were very friendly and welcoming food was excellent and hot would highly recommend and will use again

The food, service and welcoming atmosphere at The Spread Eagle are all top notch! Have eaten here 5 or 6 times in the last few months and have had an excellent meal every time. Highly recommend!

Just had a lovely Mother’s Day meal here. Fabulous food and value for money. Friendly staff and a great country pub atmosphere. Our 3rd time eating here and every time has been superb. A bonus that it’s dog-friendly! Highly recommended.

Lovely and polite staff food was lovely could of done with being a bit hotter (just my opinion). Haven't been in since the refurbishment but I really enjoyed it and will return.

Great food, Great beer, Good atmos, had a great chat with the owner. It was ever so slightly cold but I cant blame them with cost of living. Dog friendly, good deals on pies etc oon certain nights.

Food is amazing as always, big shout out to Scott who took our order with a smile on his face, made us feel very welcome, also a shout out to Dean behind the bar, incredibly knowledgeable about what drinks would go best with our food. Can't recommend this place enough.

Wow, the Sunday lunch was fantastic! Excellent beer. Fabulous warm and friendly service too. The new owners are doing a great job! Highly recommended.

A last minute choice for a family reunion of 6 adults and 4 children. Excellent service, great food, generous portions. We shall return.

Discovered this lovely place by accident on our way home Saturday night. The food was great as was the service and ambiance. Excellent value for money. Will certainly be visiting again.

Just pulled off the A3 for lunch, and chose Liss because it was so close. What a find in The Spread Eagle! Beautiful quaint country pub in a little village. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Beautifully presented delicious food. Will definitely go back, and next time with the whole family, to make use of the extensive children's playground at the back.

First time today coming to spread eagle and we were so impressed with everything! The staff was so lovely, the food was incredible and fresh, the play area is great for kids and loved the atmosphere! Would highly recommend and will definitely be coming back again soon

Stopped in here on the way down south. Very nice burgers 🍔. Quick, very friendly staff and and tasty food. Forgot to take pics of the food as it tasted too nice!

The chicken burger was served up with pink raw meat in the centre… when we notified the waitress, she apologised and that was it…… No examination of food, no chief came out, and it was even included in the bill, with 10% service charge added. This behaviour tells me it’s not taken seriously…. VERY POOR!!! Things go wrong, but raw chicken, come on spread eagle, this is dangerous play…. We will not eat there again, despite eating there for many years with previous owners… More training is needed, before someone falls ill….

A really nice pub. Understated. But really good (vegetarian) food: several options and much better than I expected.

Food was tasty and the staff excellent.

All of us had lovely meals, service was excellent, and the desserts were fabulous, too..

The service was poor from the start the front man couldn't even manage a smile or a welcome. The food was expensive but the quality of a supermarket at best, steak also came out cold, nothing had any flavour or seasoning. After coming here for years, used to be good value and welcoming but something has changed that has made the service, atmosphere and food dive in quality.

Needs some external work but promising in the right direction but still need to try food

The pub has been given a lovely fresh modern feel while keeping the country pub vibe. Busy, even mid-week, which is always a good sign. Food and service were excellent. Great beer too.

The Spread Eagle burger used to be great but a change has let it slip big time. Good beer and service with outside seating.

Went to the spread eagle for their quiz night. Such an amazing atmosphere and Steve was amazing with the quiz. Had such a good night with very quick service and amazing food. Will definitely be going back to try more items off of the menu and to try the Sunday roast. Loads of car parking spaces and have a lovely pub garden.

Ambient is very nice, in a quiet location. There is plenty of free car parking as well. The food is very good, but on my plate, the black pudding was a bit too dry, but not a reason to reduce from 5 stars. The prices are affordable, and the atmosphere was great. Good place to go to.

Sorry, took too long to get the starter.... And the mains.... And the desserts.... Waiting an hour for 5 starters was not fun with children. Mains were not good! When any of us go out to eat, we pay for food which is supposed to be better than what we have at home, otherwise what is the point in going out!

Great food! Lots of choice in the menu including vegetarian options and there is also a daily special board. Very friendly and helpful staff, wonderful atmosphere. Will definitely be going there again.

Been going to the Spread Eagle for a couple years enjoying their fabulous burger offer on a Tuesday evening, we were not disappointed this week. The pub now under new ownership has changed the decor some what , now much lighter and brighter the cluttered window sills have been replaced with simple decoration. The pub maintains its character with the large open fire and wide bar area in the centre where we saw many regulars seated enjoying a drink or 2.The staff where very attentive and friendly the service was completed in a timely manner despite the restaurant being very busy at the time. Thank you Spread Eagle we will be back and recommend others visit, the food was great.

Went on burger night - burgers were ok. Seems like the quality of ingredients have deteriorated quite significantly since when I started going to the spread eagle - especially the chips (!!) There were a few things wrong with our order eg no onion rings with veggie burger and requested no bbq sauce with another burger but it came with it (me requesting customisations has failed twice in two most recent visits here). Taking our food order was also slow, the waiter was nice and apologised but there was no check in mid meal so we could bring the issues to light, which was a shame. Didn’t mind paying £9 as that was the deal but would have been very disappointed if I had paid the full whack at £15 This isn’t affecting my rating and may just be to personal taste but the pub vibe in there is quite confused … the inside has a lot of things stuck on the wall that seem disconnected from a British pub/a restaurant e.g. a full blueberry muffin recipe, and various inspirational quotes etc. Also, menu is very extensive 4/5 pages long ? and seems like it’s trying to do too much. One thing my veggie friend commented on was that we previously were able to sub the veggie burger (fake beef) into any of the usual burger offerings which made it great for veggie choice. The current red pepper one just doesn’t have that same versatility. In general, veggie options look like they were created by a meat eater and just don’t have the wow factor we expect from here.

Cosy, traditional pub with a small, basic menu focused on sandwiches. The tomato soup was a little like marinara sauce. Great beer though!

This was a break in our journey, we arrived, were served quickly and in a friendly manner, and left feeling sorry we couldn't have stayed longer. The atmosphere was so cozy it was a wrench to continue our journey...

We popped into this pub on the way to the ferry and on the way back after our holiday. What a fab pub dinner! The decor may need updating a little but I couldn't fault the food or the service. It was really super and I wouldn't hesitate to go in again when we're next that way.

This place was recommended by a friendly neighbour whilst on holiday in Liss, so glad they did. Was def worth the trek! - staff were nice enough, our table was shown to be reserved in advance. - sunday roast was best ever had, great portion size and extra side dishes of creamy broccoli. - outdoor space was lovely, even had kids playground, however a tad messy, lots of bottles not cleared. - toilets were clean, but cubicles are very dark, only one had a window for light. Otherwise lovely country experience! Final verdict: ☆ Staff service: 4/5 ☆ Food: 5/5 ☆ Hygiene: 3/5 ☆ Ambience: 5/5 ☆ Price: £££
