The Deers Hut in East Hampshire

We had a beautiful Sunday lunch today & it was by far the best roast I've had in a while. Food was served hot & so generous with the meat, vegetables & potatoes. The staff were so attentive & efficient! We had our Vizsla dog with us & he was made a fuss of by everyone! Gorgeous pub! Cannot wait to visit again, thank you!

We came here last night and we absolutely loved it! We had the shared Camembert to start off with which was delicious! I then had the sausages and mash which was amazing as well. Such a lovely cosy pub to go too! Would definitely love to come back and recommend ☺️

Great Friendly Country Pub Had a lovely meal with friends will be visiting again!

I very rarely write reviews however I felt I had to share our evening last night, we went for dinner here and it was absolutely fantastic. We had the game pie and the pumpkin risotto which was sensational. A beautiful pub with a lovely atmosphere and brilliant service. Can't praise highly enough .

Came here few months ago and Staff members was rude, first thing he said when I walked in was to take my hat off before even saying welcome, good job I was only asking to book a table but after that interaction I didn’t end up booking a table.

Great visit this Christmas period with great food and atmosphere - very nice pub!

We arrived without a table booking on a very busy Sunday, with 3 dogs in tow. They managed to offer us a lovely outdoor, heated seating area, so we could have lunch. Portion sizes were enormous (the dogs got the leftovers), food was delicious and served nice and hot. There was atleast 3 choices of meat on offer for the Sunday roast, along with a great choice of other mains. Typical gastro pub pricing, around £15-24 per main for adults. Whilst we were there 4 horse riders turned up for hot chocolate and chips, and the landlord bought carrots out for the horses. So definitely dog & horse friendly.

Great staff and vibe, beautifully decorated for Xmas. For me, the Burger was very dry and would have benefitted from a softer "melted" cheese to give it some kind of moisture. That said, I'd visitvagin and try something else from the menu

We enjoyed a pre wedding dinner this week for my daughter’s wedding. The food and service was 10 out of 10 - pre ordering really worked well. Could not fault anything about the whole night - thanks so much and would definitely recommend to all

When you book a table you don't expect to told you have to vacate your table at 4.30 when at 4.05 your still waiting for desserts , poor , the boss in a brightly coloured blazer was clearly on the ball but his staff not so ,

Had a lovely lunch here during the week. Staff were very helpful and friendly, and they had good recommendations for the food menu. The atmosphere was lovely, super cosy with the fire going, would happily come back!

Nice cosy proper country pub. Although we had phoned earlier to make a reservation there seemed to be some confusion when we arrived. Drinks order took some time to arrive. The food was very good. The requested dessert menu never appeared so we paid up and left.

Called in on the off chance for lunch on Tuesday. We were 30 miles from home and in need of refreshment..Very warm welcome by staff. Had a midday meal, the waitresses’ were friendly and helpful.The food was excellent. The toilets were clean and the washroom’s were “ sparkling.” Net result we booked the Christmas menu for later in November. We would recommend that you give it a try

Nice menu with some specials, we had monkfish and the chicken pie. Lunchtime was busy, thought beers were a bit steep at £6.80 other than that, we would return.

This quaint country pub first came to my attention after visiting old thorns country club on a freezing winters night. I fell in love with it immediately and it was a welcome respite from the icy cold outside at the time. We had impromptu food which we were lucky to get as this very popular spot always recommends booking ahead, but we were in luck and got a table in the corner to thaw out and relax. The staff were amazing - friendly, funny, helpful and efficient, and the food was high end pub food and delicious quality. They do great Xmas offers which I intend to try this year, and did I mention they are dog friendly, have roaring fires and have the cutest outside area with heated pods with sofas, blankets and the like. Highly recommended. Oh, and they have over a hundred different gins to try...

Visited here on the 17th October. A wonderful experience through and through. I had the dhal and it was delicious. All the staff were attentive and well presented. The restaurant/ bar was very clean and welcoming. We will definitely return. Well Done ⭐️⭐️

Ate here while on a golf weekend at Old Thorns, on the recommendation of a club member, and was not disappointed. The food was amazing and the service excellent, all the staff were very friendly. This is an independent pub doing things right!

During our visit, together with my wife, to the Old Thornes in January 2024, we ate here twice. The food was delicious, the location was very cozy and the owner was very gallant, my wife was in a wheelchair and the owner was very helpful and very friendly. What a fantastic meals 20 plus of us every meal came out hot and really great taste

Went here recently for dinner with a friend. I had my 10 month old son with me and from the start I was left standing, waiting to be seated, for a while with my baby in my arms. I didn't bring his buggy inside because I know it's tight on space inside and a buggy is awkward at a table. A member of staff then informed me they "don't do high chairs". What!? I can't be the only person who has ever brought a small child into this pub!? My son isn't old enough to sit in a normal chair or booth, but is far too mobile and wriggly to be held for the whole meal. I had to go back out to the car to bring the buggy in. Later on during the meal I needed to make up a bottle for my son. I always bring hot water with me for this, but it usually needs cooling down. I went to the bar to ask for some cold tap water, as our waitress hadn't been past in a while, but again I was left standing for a long time with babe in arms. In the end I gave up and my friend had to try to flag down our waitress. The food and drinks were delicious, but I was left with the feeling that my son/ families with small child aren't really welcome here. I won't be coming back until my son is a lot older or I'm child free for the night.

Booked the pub after it was recommended by the air bed and breakfast owner. I'd looked up the pub food online but when we arrived the menu looked nothing like online, I was expecting a traditional pub menu but sadly no sausages, traditional pies,only a choice of 2 burgers beef or chicken, very expensive fillet steak at £35. I had to settle for fish and chips, and vanilla cheese cake and sorbet severed on a hot plate.the pub was extremely loud big groups not ideal for a dating couple. I definitely wouldn't revisit here again..sadly.

2 large glasses of Sauvignon Blanc and a packet of KP Dry roasted peanuts all for the bargain price of £25!! That is called exploitation Deers Hut. Just because you have the nicest pub garden in the local area doesn’t mean you have to totally rip the locals off. Not all of us have jobs in the City and tonnes of spare cash. You are taking the piss. I could have bought two very nice bottles of SB for £25. Buyers beware!!

Me and my partner Jordan are staying at the old thorn hotel and thought we would go for dinner at the dear hut. Didn't book a table but was approached by Lauren who was very friendly and quickly found us a table despite being very busy which was great. Through our visit it was lovely great food which was delicious and the lady who delt with us Lauren was very helpful. Would definitely recommend and come again if we stay in the area again. Havn't been here for a while and we will be back sooner. Every coarse I would order again, but the many other choices would have to be tried. They venu was packed and I would advise booking to get a table.

Visited this pub for Sunday lunch with the family. The staff were very attentive but didn't seem to communicate much as they would often forget we ordered something or ask us the same question multiple times. The food portions were really hearty but I wouldn't say the tastiest. In fact, most courses were quite tasteless.

Well worth travelling for, one of th best pubs in Surrey. The food is great, the ambiance inside and outside is good, and the service is great. Bonus points for being really easy for people with allergies - a good menu showing allergens and a kitchen that takes them seriously while being really easy to order from. 10/10.

Heard mixed reviews, but thought this place was excellent. Staff reallt friendly and food was excellent (decent portion sizes too). Will return for sure!

Me and my partner had been looking forward to our anniversary meal here for awhile. Had a nice drink in the beer garden first which was pleasant, afterwards it all went a bit downhill. We got put in a room off to the side, lacking atmosphere and after finishing our first round of drinks, we had to wait 30 minutes with the empty glasses on the end of the table. Servers were walking past constantly to tend to a group behind us, before I had to stop a server and politely had them our empty glasses after they were ignored. Bear in mind, we had ordered other drinks and they were still left until we asked and it was a quiet evening. The food then came out overcooked, which was disappointing for the price. My partner ate around 1/2 of hers and I ate less and then when asked if we could take the remaining 70% of our meals home, we were told we couldn’t which was really disappointing considering the price for overcooked food that we couldn’t even take home. We proceeded to have to wait 20 minutes after confirming we were done for the cheque which was irritating. Would not recommend as it turned an otherwise celebratory day into a bit of a downer. Disappointing really.

Popped in on Tuesday evening for a drink and a bite to eat - 2 for 1 Burger night and the place was packed with a great atmosphere! Thanks to Lauren and the hard working staff though for finding us a table and looking after us so well.

Out of the way place, but so so pretty esp the beer garden. Went for the chalk water trout was not disappointed & will be coming back again soon!. Unfortunately, it was a Monday & service was quite slow, hence the 4 stars. I'm going to go for a weekend brunch next time in the near future to see if service is different. Cocktails were great, too!. Would recommend & will go again. TO ADD been a few times since my initial review. They're recruiting if anyone's looking for a job. There were more staff, hence my rating going from 4-5. The food is delicious & I'm trying to work myself through it all. I had the venison pie of the day from the special's menu. Baking hot wholesome food just as I like it!. Great job guy's, be seeing you again soon!. Thank you 😊

Avoid Table 9. I do hate it when staff take advantage of an early arrival newbie party to allocate them the worst table. The table out of sight of the servers and right by the loos. Thanks for nothing guys. The food wasn't worth writing home about either. We won't be back.

Sadly let down by my Bavette steak, the Deer's Hut has always in the past been excellent. My steak was chewey and inedible but when mentioned, it was not charged. Full marks for service and understanding. The meals for the remaining 3 persons were acceptable but not exactly brilliant. Service was quick and courteous and the drinks were good. I considered it expensive for the quality of the food.

We absolutely love coming here! We had our wedding 8 years ago at The Old Thorns & this is the place we always go for food, lunch & dinner, we try at least once a year as we celebrate another Anniversary & we are always very warmly welcomed, staff are lovely, food is delicious & atmosphere is wonderful. This year our children surprised us with a voucher & we had it presented to us by the Manager in a lovely card with words our children wanted on it & we did notice we had little love hearts above our table too! Cute! Thank you for making our Anniversary so special & for all your hard work, you are always busy, but always all smiling! X

Had a capital W Wonderful experience at the Deers Hut. Just chatting and having a couple of stout with a few mates. Our server was simply delightful. Incredibly attentive to all of our needs while not taking away from our banter. Would recommend, though the manager, a rather large man a tad lacking in the hair department seemed incredibly rude towards younger members of his staff. Having said that, I will be back!!

As the sun set below the south downs, I lift a cool Inch’s cider to my lips. The calm ambiance of the Deers Hut makes me feel as safe as my mothers arms. The smooth rush of liquid heaven courses through my veins, I let out a warm sigh and smile, forever grateful to the Deers Hut for providing me such a beautiful experience. I begin to think of all those who will live and die to never experience the Deers Hut, and pity them, for it is all that is good and great in the world.

We had a off the cuff lunch at the deer hut. And what a great experience. Staff were super freindly and the food we had was top notch. We all had the ploughman's off the specials board, and I would say it's one of the best we have had. Price wise you could say its on the high side but I'd argue its worth it as the produce was outstanding and the price refects it. Well done deer hut.... well done

Excellent Sunday lunch. As a group we tried all the roasts and enjoyed them all. Deserts were also great. Back for Sunday lunch again. It is very popular and was busy. Excellent food again. Great meat dishes, with lovely veg too. Back for a birthday meal. Again great food and drink. Nice variety of specials on the menu as well as the main menu. Also desserts are even better than before!

Bar staff need to smile and not look like it's an effort to serve!!

My wife and I came to the Deer's Hut with a couple of friends for Sunday Lunch. I wanted to see what it was like as my daughter is getting married at the Old Thorns (just up the road) later in the year and I was really glad we came. The staff are really friendly, the roast dinner was wonderful, the service was excellent and the atmosphere was great. It was very busy there, but we were surprised to have our meals served so quickly. I am looking forward to going back there with a few of my family for dinner on the eve of the wedding. If you are in the area I can't think of a better place to have a meal. I highly recommend The Deer's Hut.

Such a cool little place. Smidge out of the way, but worth a diversion for. Food was fantastic and the drinks were sensibly priced. Had a nice time here.

Wonderful pub. Beautiful garden settings back and front. And plenty of lovely places inside to sit. Great atmosphere. The food was really great quality. We sat in the back garden and it was the most positive experience.

Had to wait 1hour for food, although pub not busy. Very expensive for a pie, mash and a little cabbage for £20. Plus service charge included. Only trout as fish offering, no quiche or salad, limited menu. Will not be calling again.

Stopped here this evening for Sunday dinner, for three. We were greeted with friendliness and immediately made to feel welcome. Throughout our very enjoyable stay, the service was friendly and excellent. The food was very good indeed: I chose the nut roast, and felt as though I had been served with Christmas dinner, such was the variety of the vegetables, and food on my plate. I hope that we will be back again, as this was a delightful experience.

It is a pretty pub, well located with nice seating out front and apparently a large garden behind. We came on a sunny day when this was at its best. Staff were friendly and helpful. It began to fill quite quickly and we arrived mid week at midday. Most of the clientele were older! If 3.5 stars were possible, that is what I would give because although my food was nicely presented, my hummus and pepper sandwich had barely a sneer of hummus, and given this is a cheap ingredient, I expected enough to taste it! My friend ordered the jumbo prawn starter, and got 4 prawns maybe 1.5 inch’s long, so baby jumbos! Many of my fries were and inch or less in length which made them hard to eat and affects the flavour. Small details, but important when this and a beer is £20

Lovely pub garden. One of the best I've ever seen! Great atmosphere/decor. Good friendly service. Happened to be in the area playing golf (old thornes) will definitely return when in area. Sad I dont live close would definitely be my regular.

As always busy but accommodating great place to visit

Booked by phone for 7pm dinner slot on Bank Holiday Sunday,, with dog, no issues told we would be slotted iin, but we're busy. Arrived on time, stood at bar whilst 6 staff busied around oblivious to us and another couple waited to be seated. Waited patiently for several minutes to then be told that our allocated table now occupied by others, so another table had to be found. Eventually seated with dog near a party with the ubiquitous screaming baby. Ordered everything together, drinks & food , with explicit instructions not to wait until I was finished the soup to bring mains as wife had no starter. Spicy soup arrives, no drinks though until nearly finished soup. Then asked if I wanted the mains, as it was waiting, I replied yes as per my original request. It arrives another 10 mins later. It's now 1 hour since we arrived to us getting the mains to the table. I'm starting to get irritated now. Table is cleared and I ask for dessert menu. Table opposite gets menu, orders theirs and I'm then asked by their waitress is everything ok. I reply no, get menu and after another 5 minutes of no service, go to the bar and order myself, at this point it is far less busy. Table opposite gets their pudding, at this point I'm now livid with the lack of service, and tell waitress so. My sweet arrives without the coffee I ordered My wife complains about the appalling service, we get the bill with a reduction, but that isn't the point. Over 2 hours for 3 courses, the continual prompting, whilst the food is very good, the service is dire. Spoilt what should have been a lovely evening. Avoid if you want your food the same day you order it....

Good food and friendly staff. The fish and chips were fantastic, but it is a very large portion, so make sure you are hungry. This may be a strange criticism, but for a place that has been around since the 1600s, it lacks a historic feel. For example, the bathroom looks almost brand new and modern, and the style is wrong for the age. I think they should have tried harder to make it match the rest of the buildings decor. Don't misunderstand me, totally worth a stop for a drink and some food. Small criticism, for sure. Staff was super friendly.

Tasty food, beautiful pub, huge portions, good atmosphere, friendly service despite pub extremely busy. I’d suggest adding a few more vegan options as there is like one starter and one main. Although the chickpea tagine is really a winner for me. My flatbread starter was cold and the olives were straight out of the jar, an upgrade would be welcome. This pub is at the entrance of the Old Thorns Hotel Resort and offers a nice alternative from the restaurants they have there. Lots of parking, lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Reservations possible.

Wow, what an amazing pub, great service, great food, value for money. Also the start of a 4 mile round walk. Staff were very friendly.
