Have been twice for the quiz. First time was wonderful no problems. Bar staff are wonderful and fairly consistent in terms of people behind the bar. Very friendly. Only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is that the quizmaster, otherwise excellent, took very long breaks in between questions. Other than that, great staff, beer is reasonably priced (around £4-6 a pint (although there's also a 10% student discount)), quiz is fun although slow at times, and the atmosphere is great.

This pub has grown so much over the years & truely is my favourite. The staff are always incredibly friendly & the venue itself is beautiful. The outside garden is such a hidden gem, you definitely dont feel like you are in the middle of ipswich. I always feel safe & comfortable here, if there is anyone that causes trouble it is delt with calmly & quickly by the wonderful manager. Would advise anyone looking for a safe space & lively but calm place for a drink to go! Also has cats & dogs are welcome so cant go wrong!

Rude and arrogant staff. The manager told us to leave the table we had been sitting at for 1 hour. Was no reserve sign, but apparently is just her 'friends table'. We then had to stand out in the rain. Finished our pints and went to a different pub. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!

A Nightmarish Encounter with Power-Drunk Staff! Beware, potential patrons! My recent visit to the spread eagle turned into a surreal nightmare, thanks to the astounding lack of professionalism and a serious power trip from the management. Two weeks ago, my card was stolen on the premises, and instead of the expected empathy, I was greeted with audacious accusations of dishonesty from the manager. The rudeness was off the charts, and I was dealing with someone on a power trip. Thankfully, a neighbouring pub, proved to be a shining beacon of customer service and helped me retrieve my card. Little did I know, my ordeal was far from over. Upon returning a week later, I found myself banned by the manager. Trying to reason with her was like talking to a brick wall—only, this wall was not just indifferent but shockingly rude. The reason for my ban? Another customer's wrongdoing! The manager seemed to relish in her newfound authority, displaying an alarming level of aggression and an outright refusal to provide any valid reason for my ban. It was a blatant power trip, and the rudeness was beyond what one would expect in any customer-service-oriented establishment. If you're a fan of being accused, mistreated, and subjected to an authoritarian power trip, by all means, visit the spread eagle. For the rest of us who value respect and courtesy, steer clear of this establishment.

If you're an away fan, and the queue at the Station Hotel is too long, the upside is that there is no door staff stopping you coming in... The downside is that the place seems to think that it's in Hoxton, rather than Ipswich, and feels free to charge strip club prices, for glorified home brew... You live and learn, hopefully!

Hot plates, warm food. It's a steakhouse, why didn't we have steak knives? The duck breast was lukewarm and tough, the knife we had was as sharp as a butter knife Our waitress was too busy talking to be interested in our service. I had the cheeseboard, the menu stated 5 cheeses, I had 4, one was supposed to be Black Bomber, it wasn't, it was a generic 'cheddar' it was stale and cracked at the edges, Any good restaraunt would have trimmed that off. My only regret, other going to this place was leaving a 15% tip, habits die hard, I shouldn't have left anything. I shall not be returning.

We stumbled upon this place on a two day stop over. We liked it so much we went back on our second day! It is a lovely place to stop and catch your breath. We sat in the garden (met the friendly pub cat). Drinks are reasonably priced, served nicely and delivered to your table promptly. The friendly lady behind the bar was helpful, attentive and knew her stuff. On our second visit, we tried the cocktails 2 for £12 on Sundays, and again we weren't disappointed. They were just setting up for a poetry reading session, but sadly we didn't have time to stay. A pint of premium lager and a rhubarb and ginger gin came to less than a tenner. Both were nicely presented, especially the gin (fine slices of fresh ginger and lime included, lovely to sit and muddle whilst enjoying the sunshine). Would we go here again..... Yes, again and again.... Next time we are in Ipswich! Thank you

Not sure what you want, they will ask you what you like and makes ace suggestions. Been back since Covid and one of the few places taking their responsibilities seriously. Enter via the side gate, not through the pub, straight in to the beer garden. Before entering you have to provide your details and have temperature taken, you're then shown to your table. Drinks are served via table service and bill's settled at the end. The pub is run by Grain who are a superb brewery boardering Norfolk and Suffolk. Went there for our Sons 18th Birthday party a table of 11 on a Thursday the actual food was lovely as usual . We ordered our main food then ordered a couple of other dishes and with that was told " if there is anything else we would like is to order it now" we didn't want anymore main course food anyway . We then asked for dessert banana fritter and ice cream and we all had one each with a couple extra on the side that come out so my son plus a couple of others decided to order a few more with that was told " we are unable to cook anymore as the cook has gone home" I thought it was all you can eat buffet and was well before 11pm as that's the time they close . For £18 per person we didn't actually get what we wanted so a bit disappointed , but if we had it would have been first class .
