Will terminate staff for no apparent reason, without an explanation. Both owners will pick and choose which staff to treat with basic respect and if you don’t pass their test they are disgustingly rude to you for the remainder of your time working. It’s their prerogative to make you uncomfortable. I was always made to feel ashamed for asking questions or just being myself, even after I explained my struggles with my learning difficulties. The boss encourages predatory behaviour towards his own staff, women who work here are often students in need of a job and when you’re showered with free wine and a seemingly good wage it’s hard to spot what is right In front of your face at the time. A huge shame because the pub itself is lovely as are the barmaids and regulars.

We had our little dog with us in the outdoor space, a barmaid came out and told us no dogs allowed. Annoying for a pub called the Spotted Dog but fair enough if thats the policy. So we drove her home, 20 mins each way, and came back to rejoin our friends. When we got back there was another dog sitting on someone's lap in the bar. I queried this with the barmaid and she said that one was allowed as the owner knew it!

Great jazz, nice pub. Just needs a bit of a rethink.. It’s great that the pub’s weekly jazz night is so popular, but at a certain point you have to acknowledge that you don’t have the supply (of space) to meet your demand. From my pov it’s an obvious problem that needs solving, but they might be happy that it has a crammed atmosphere and you’re either in or out, sort of thing. But Its a shame when you make the journey over and you can’t get a look-in. On the same note, one gents toilets for the whole pub is not enough either. Also, barwoman pointed at me and said “you can wait” whilst she chatted to someone. Made me laugh to be honest 😂 All in all, The old traditional pub vibe is great but at some point you have to try and modernise the bits that need it.

The spotted dog is a nice and cozy pub in Digbeth. It does looks small from the outside but there is a courtyard at the back where a live Jazz band plays I think every Tuesday. It was surprisingly jam packed for a weekday. There was no vacant seat in sight when we arrived. Granted that we arrived a bit late and all. The music was soothing although the talks and bantering made it difficult to totally focus on the music. All in all, it was a lovely experience. Definitely going to try again some other time.

A pub I’ve been to a few times as it’s close to where I work and popular with coworkers. Good choice of drinks, friendly staff, and candles on all the tables made a nice touch, although they weren’t lit. It was strangely quiet for a Friday night, so the atmosphere lacked a bit, but it did make getting served quicker. Bit of a strange musty smell in the air too.

The land lord (John I believe) is a lovely chap and made us feel very welcome with his fun loving Irish spirit ☘️ The drinks were well priced and were served in clean glasses. The inside is traditional and authentic and the outside is lovely, open and brilliant for socialising. I couldn’t recommend it anymore. The satay chicken balls were okay, but none of the staff praised it for being so delicious and crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The second place couldn't praise it as much. The fresh tomato and pork chop rice is really delicious. . . . Even though the pork chop was thin, it was tasteless and had a strong pork sour taste. I vomited it out every time I ate it. Even my friends at the table couldn't stand it. The juice was originally from a can of watered-down canned tomato soup. What the heck? There is no taste, and there is no food in the dish.
