New owners and what a great meal we had. Currently living in the Midlands and we have a superb range of great curry houses. Not often I come across a menu where I want to try such a range of dishes, it took us ages to pick our choices. They do all of the usuals from tikka Madala to Rogan Josh. In addition there are really interesting Indian dishes including lobster, squid and beef rump. The three of us chose 2 starters and 3 mains between us. The trio of chicken was delicious, even though one of them was bright green! The lamb strips were fabulous, like a minted red current jelly lamb with an Indian twist. If you like a rich slightly sweet curry the lamb and apricot could be for you. My sis had the lamb shank which just fell off the bone. Ann loved her New Delhi chicken which was creamy and full of flavour. The Naan was some of the best I’ve had, light and crisp and the mushroom rice was another triumph. We will definitely eat here again, I’m a real foodie and this was such a lovely surprise, great food, £21 a head with drinks, bargain!

Curry not very spicy, Veg curry just tasted like it was in gravy. Popadums tasted like they were cooked in old oil

Excellent service after an on-line order on a Saturday evening in locckdown during the Covid-19 pandemic. We ordered one starter, two mains, a rice, and a nan bread - and to be honest it was much more quantity than two of us could eat. Piping hot - unusual choices on the menu - and whilst I was a little disappointed with one of our choices, I will certainly return. I think I made the wrong choice rather thanj their being a problem with the cooking. Recommended.

Recently moved to Dorchester and decided to try an indian takeaway. This place had been recommended by relatives who frequently visit the restaurant. This is the worst indian takeaway I have ever eaten. The sauce for both my passanda and my partner's masala were as thick as wallpaper paste and did not taste anything like the curries they were advertised as. We had asked for a pilau rice and what we received had zero flavour and looked more like plain boiled rice. All food was tepid at best and lacked flavour. The 'garlic' naan had no flavour whatsoever. This is also the most expensive indian takeaway I have ever had so expected much better. I would not recommend this to anyone. Spend your money elsewhere!

Weve used this restaurant mainly for takeaway and we've not had a bad meal to be fair. So for my 40th we decided as a family to eat in the restaurant on the buffet night. We had booked and was left waiting at our table to be served a drink for over 15mins. When we were eventually told we could go up to eat the food was as good as cold. I told the waiter who didn't look like he wanted to be there and said we would have to wait till it got hot again! There was no sorry or complementary while we waited so off we went! Thanks for ruining my birthday meal we won't be back

The atmosphere is very welcoming, I love the owners they make you feel so welcome and are very attentive to everyone's needs. The food is the best Indian cuisine in West Dorset as we have travelled the area to seek out authentic Indian cuisine. There are a huge range of starters, mains and desserts. The menu has an extensive range in flavours and spices, with meals for the less adventurous and for all ages.

I purchased a groupon voucher. First time I tried to use it I booked a table for two over the phone. No problem they booked me in for the specified time. But when I said I had a groupon voucher I was told I could only use it on a quiet night, not the night which I had already booked for. Ok. So I rebooked for a 'quiet night'. When we arrived it was empty. We were the only people there. We ordered drinks and food. Food was mediocre. Quality rather than quantity, not what I would expect from an Indian restaurant. I would compare it to Iceland frozen curry. We didn't complain but decided we wouldn't bother with dessert. The Manager knew we were using a groupon voucher before we ordered however when we wanted to pay and I showed him the photo of the groupon voucher on my phone complete with barcode, Security code and groupon code he scrutinised every detail on it. He said there was no date on it and said to me that people try to use vouchers which are out of date. I then had to point out to him the valid date on it. Then he said we should have printed it out. Then he messed about trying to take a photo of it with his own phone. Then he said I had to give him my phone number in case there was a 'problem' with the voucher. It was really very awkward. Almost as though he just didn't want to redeem it. I have used groupon before and I know how to use the groupon voucher code and merchants have never had a problem taking the details off my phone before. I had already read several reviews about the spice centre bad customer service but I had decided to purchase the groupon voucher anyway. I really wished I hadn't. I won't go again and will warn everyone I know not to waste their time or money on the Spice centre.

First the positives , food was lovely, big portions.. however service had left a lot to be desired, lights kept going on and off so ate half of are meal in the dark , which would have not been an issue but despite advising on arrival and end of meal that we had a Merrkat 2 for 1 meal deal , the waitress (do believe was the owner) still tried to charge us full price, she even sent her 8/9 year old son with the card machine and bill for us to pay . My husband politely asked the boy if we could speak to his mum. We went up to the bar , she ignored us for a few minutes, and when my husband pointed out that the discount hadn’t been applied, she begrudgingly amended the bill , there was no apology or even a thank you or come again ! And even with the discount the meal was more expensive then other nicer Indian restaurants that we have visited with no discount and a better customer service with friendly staff ! So hence would go back for the food , but not the service.

I’ve been to the spice centre about 4 times in the recent months, on one occasion I decided to phone ahead to check with the owner that I could come in with A Guide Dog Puppy I’m a puppy walker and my role is to socialise the dog, in many environments before his intense training at the guide dog training centre, I was told it would be fine, when I arrived the lady who greeted us said we couldn’t come in a man who I presume is her husband said we could, she obviously wasn’t keen at all and kept on about reviews on trip advisor. We were allowed in and the dog laid under the table as he’s been taught, and I doubt if anyone knew he was there, i think the lady should change her attitude about assistance dogs as for some people wouldn’t be able to go out without these dogs who have been trained to change their life, this approach could be very embarrassing, like I said we have been 4 times the food has been reasonable the drink prices extortionate but on going again this week sadly I think it will be the last, the curries on the buffet were

When I arrived with my family, 4 adults, the restaurant was quite empty so it was not a problem finding a table. Our drink and starters order arrived relatively quickly. But our order for the mains took a very long time even though the restaurant had only a few other customers. It appeared that take away orders took priority. I noticed that the tablecloth was dirty, and some of the crockery chipped. The food was ok, one dish lacked any taste. The service was very slow and we ended up having to go to the till to pay our bill.

The food was quite nice overall. Unfortunately there was a bad attitude from the female waitress all night and she made this apparent upon us leaving the restaurant. You would think she would want to treat her customers much better given that they pay her wages. Will NEVER return to this place again and I will be advising others not to go there either. Try out the other two Indian restaurants in Dorchester if you want this type of cuisine and you’ll be sure of better customer service.

All our guests were so amazed that they were able to deliver restaurant quality food for so many guests. We had so many comments about the quality of the food. There was plenty of food and even had left overs. Abu & Julie are a lovely couple and couldn't do enough for us. We have eaten here numerous times but hadn't been for a while. On entering the place smelt like a urinal, worrying, but as we had been before we carried on in and we were shown to a table, walking through the reception area which doubled as a crèche for the owners children. There was a big party in and one other table. We waited 10 minutes to be asked what we would like to drink and another 10 for them to arrive and take our order. They ignored our request for spicy poppadoms and it certainly wasn't service with a smile. The food eventually arrived, well some of it and despite not being busy our naan bread didn't arrive until we were half way through our main course despite asking, the waiter was more intent on clearing the starters from the big table. The food wasn't particularly hot, I suspect it had been sitting on the side for a while. We then tried to order more drinks and by the time they came we had finsihed i our food. The food was ok, not awful but nothing special. I was absolutely horrified when another table came in, WITH THEIR DOG!!!! They sat in the restaurant and ate with their dog either on their lap or at their feet!! We asked for the bill but again gave up after 10 mins and went through the crèche to pay. They hadn't even totalled our bill and the lady adding it up never even looked at me or spoke to me during the whole process. She was just plain rude. To sum up, the food was OK but overpriced and not hot enough, service was appalling, the reception area of the restaurant smelt of wee and doubled as a crèche and don't get me started on the dog (it wasn't a guide dog). Will I go again? Absolutely not, I will be going over the road to the Rajpoot.

We hadn't been to the Spice Centre though living in Dorchester for some time. The ambience is really that of an old 'bingo hall ' very large with many tables most of them empty. However, the food was excellent and waiters good. Overall a good place to eat without anything special to recommend it apart from the guitar music.

Another great visit to this hidden Indian/Curry restaurant. People may underestimate this place because it was previously a night club and being quite large inside and not overly decorated, it may put people off.Well, that doesn't bother us curry maniacs. We like the place, the management, the tasty food and the price. I would say, we had a far better time than two weeks ago at the other end of town, too busy and too long to serve us and by the time we were served, it was getting a bit late. So we know where we will go for our curry in the future.

Working in the area for a few days, fancied an Indian meal, chose this one after noticing early special of 2 courses for £10. Its modern, clean, not sure about tired as mentioned by other reviews but it is huge! A former nightclub and it's hard to believe they lowered the ceiling by 10 feet. Friendly and chatty staff, I overheard one member explaining the dishes to an enquiring customer. I was offered the a la carte or the buffet (which I hadn't noticed), all you can eat for £10. Opted for that, not disappointed at all. Delightfully spicy and well balanced food. Hot, fresh and tasty. Choices - chicken masala, a korma dish, lamb vindaloo, chicken Dhansak, sag aloo, onion Bhaji, vegetable curry, samosas, pilau rice, naan breads, and a couple of other things I can't remember. Others have knocked the buffet choice as limited, it is a buffet and it's only £10. What do they expect. I have no hesitation in going back again on another business or social trip to Dorchester.

Plenty of space not crammed in together and the staff were not over attentive, which is good and very pleasant. Will go back again.

I was on my own working in Dorchester and this restaurant was near to the hotel I was staying in. Visited about 5:45 for a quick meal not realising a member of staff had their children there after school who had free reign to run amongst the tables not exactly quietly! Difficult to concentrate on the food with the distractions and noise. Yes I could have said something but I shouldn't need to.Paid quickly and left.Luckily there is another restaurant of this type over the road which is where I'll be on my next visit to Dorchester.

We used our tastecard rather than the buffet because there isn't usually many veggie options at those things. Puri was incredible! The building itself is huge and really needs completely renovating, new carpets, etc. It smelt very clean however. The cleaning products smell was very apparent in the dining area which wasn't very nice whilst eating. Your chefs and waiters are very talented thoug!

Decent looking place. Service ok. Food only average, paratha greasy, lamb bhuna pretty bland. I'm spoiled by superb curries in Bradford etc so maybe a little biased. Enough said

Nice food well presented. Good for a last minute booking. Good value for money and the house wine was jolly good.

This is my favourite curry restaurant in Dorchester and is better than Indian restaurants I've eaten at in the Midlands. They do many of my favourites incredibly well and never get it wrong even when they are extremely busy. I mostly have takeaways but that is nothing against the dinning area which is exceptionally large and open with a rather spectacular chandelier!

We had the buffet - not a lot of choice. Starters consisted of samosa / onion bhaji or chicken wings. My son liked the wings but the samosas and the bhajis were luke warm and rubbery. Only one rice on offer but four meat curries and a vegetable one plus bombay potato and naan bread. It was OK but I think a Tesco curry would be as authentic, tasty and better value. A couple of the staff were excellent, particularly the lady. I wouldn't go back as I feel unless you're shovelling it down for the sake of it, it just wasn't great food.

We have visited the Spice Centre on a few occasion but hadn't been in for quite a while so decided to go back.We have never found the place overly busy but having said that I think it is the décor that lets the place down. The food was amazing and one of the best curry's I have had in a very long time. The wifes curry was lovely as well and she thoroughly enjoyed it. The cost is fine and certainly not expensive. The only thing that lets the place down is the décor. It is old and looking tired now and could do with a bit of money spending on it in my opinion. That said I would have no hesitation in going back there soon

Will not be going again!Table not ready, children running around with toy guns, not what you expect.Food not hot.Our bill came and our change should have been just over £12, waited half an hour whilst chatting but no one came back with it so we got our coats but no mention of it.I think they just assume they don't have to give you any change and just keep it as there tip.

Visited here at lunchtime ...there was only two other people besides us. Our food and drinks order was taken promptly and we didn't have to wait long for our starter. I have to say portion sizes are on the big side the food itself piping hot chicken tender cooked to perfection. Everything was just how it should be. Good service good food the prices are very reasonable too! Definitely recommend if you haven't been before give it a go you won't be disappointed.

All the others are variable in quality and have gone downhill since opening. If you want to pay for decor and bland service then go elsewhere. If you are looking for good curry then this is the place. They are happy to advise and modify dishes to suit. The owners are very friendly and accommodating and have even laid on unique dishes on request. This place is about the food and not a posh atmospheric restaurant. Yes the children are occasionally found in the foyer but that's normal for lots of cultures and I'm sure yours would be welcome too.My favourite Dorset curry house and compares well with Brum ones. If you get an off day. Persevere as most places can have the odd dud day.

We were the only ones in the restaurant apart from one other couple. The wallpaper was peeling off the walls, the chairs had rips in and there were dirty old cobwebs hanging from the ceiling. In the entrance there is an armchair that looks like it is fit for the tip, it is disgustingly dirty, had we not booked we would have turned around and left, in hindsight I wish we had! Looked at wine menu, £3.70 for glass of house wine for 175 ml, asked if I wanted a 250ml glass, so ordered that. We also ordered water. The water arrived in a pre opened bottle for which we were charged £2. The 250ml glass of wine (which was revolting and I was unable to finish), was £6!!!!! I complained and the owner of the business said he can charge what he wants for it and doesn't have to tell us, we said that it was not fair and we felt deceived by this. The owner really didn't care we were unhappy. I explained that we were very unhappy and would not pay £6 for the wine. The bill was £31.20 so we left £30.00. When the owner saw this he launched a tirade of vile verbal abuse at us. He clearly had an issue with the colour of our white skin which he mentioned. He used the worse verbal words you could possibly imagine Laughingly he told us we were banned, as if we would want to return!!!!! Never in my life have I been racially abused and spoken to in such a disgusting manner as at this restaurant. Avoid going here at all costs unless you want to be verbally abused.

The food is of a really high standard, it can't be faulted. The venue could do with a good clean and a spruce up but overall its excellent value for money.

...but the experience is often lacking. It's a big restaurant, often still 'empty' even with a few guests in, so it simply lacks ambience but the food definitely makes up for it.Dishes at lunch time are always fresh and tasty, though this time I went for the buffet evening. There is plenty of food and it is largely good quality, although I'd say a little too much is cooked at once rather than cooking smaller quantities frequently - the onion bhajees just didn't have the crunch I wanted, although were tasty.Using the foyer as a creche for the owners children is not terribly acceptable, however. You're inviting people to your restaurant to pay for a nice experience, I am afraid screaming children rather detracted from that. I don't know if it's all evenings but I'd be reluctant to visit during the evening for this reason.

THE SPICE CENTRE is the best Indian Restaurant in the area. After relocating 3 years ago and searching for a Curry to match the Balti Quarter in Birmingham, we've finally found one to compare. The food was exceptional. The main dishes were authentic, with beautifully balanced spices, with just the right amount of heat. The naan bread was so soft, and the lemon rice was really tasty. The whole meal was exceptional. We've eaten in a few times so decided to try a take away last night. The standard was the same quality as we had in the restaurant, a wonderful meal. I recommend this Restaurant to anyone who enjoys real authentic Indian Cuisine!

We had a groupon voucher for our romantic evening out to The Spice Centre, had pre-booked a table. It Said it opened at 5.30pm we had to ring up and ask why it was still locked couldn't understand what he was saying.Owner finally showed up 15+ minutes late with I assume his two sons. We were eventually shown a table, the seats looked like they were torn. Given menus and took our drinks order, then it went down hill from there. The owners two sons were running around in the foyer and in the restaurant where we were sat, at one point I couldn't hear my partner talking because of the noise they were making. The food was good big portions piping hot food the chicken Lucknow was delicious as was my mushroom rice the peshwari Naan was a bit on the dry side but all in all a beautiful meal spoiled by two noisy unruly kids.....Sorry you don't let your children run around and make lots of noise in a restaurant with paying customers not sure if this happens every evening Then the bill was wrong hadn't taken into account the groupon voucher then tried to charge us extra because we didn't spend exactly £40! I would def recommend the food but my advice it get a take away and sit in ur car and eat it ...it would 've less noisy and more enjoyable

We visited last year and were bowled over by the food here so after a day out with the family in Swanage yesterday we decided to return for our evening meal. A little disappointed as poppadoms were on the soft side, bombay potatoes were bland & curries athough had a lovely flavour ,were a tad greasy . Not sure we will go out of our way to visit again sadly .

On a Wednesday evening they do a buffet. This is still good curry and excellent value. A friendly family run indian restaurant. For £10 for can eat as much as you like. There are 5 or 6 different curries of varied strength. The usual starters etc etc.Or go for the menu option and have your food cooked just for you they do a set menu for the same price

My first experience of this restaurant although I’ve heard great things from a friend who lives locally. On this occasion we had a takeaway. My chicken tikka Marsala was delicious and I enjoyed the poppadoms with pickle pots - a first for me. I hope to return when next visiting Dorchester and have a full restaurant meal.
